 Октомвриꙗ 14. [Title] October 14th
За Свѣтаꙗ Параскева. [Title] About St. Parascheva
Дивенъ богъ во свѣтыхъ своихъ, богъ израилевъ. You, God, are awesome in your saints; the God of Israel
 Благослови отче! Father, bless (us)!
Благочестиви христïани, кога поменꙋваме бажии тѣ чꙋдеса и похвалѧва-ме неговы те свѧти, голѣмѫ ползѫ прïемаме blessed Christians, we receive a great merit, when we remember God's miracles and praise His saints
и на бога бываме у-годни ако живѣеме праведно като свѧти тѣ, и ако ходиме по божии тѣ заповѣди като тѣхъ. and we are pleasing to God, when we live rightfully like the saints, when he follow God's commandements as they (did)
Защото тѣ сѣкога имали божий страхъ на ума си, because they always had the fear of God on their minds
и ходили по неговы те заповѣди. and they followed His commandements
За тꙋй и Богъ прослави тѣло то имъ с чꙋдеса, а дꙋша тѫ имъ съ красотѫ. for that reason also God made their body famous with miracles, and their soul with beauty
Тѫй и нïе кога ходиме по божии тѣ заповѣди и живѣеме чисто, тога быва наше то празднꙋванïе на бога угодно и на свѧти тѣ прïѧтно. thus, we, too, when we follow God's commandements and live purely, then our feasts become pleasing to God and His saints
Но трѣбѫ кога празднꙋваме свѧти тѣ, да мыслиме, чи и тѣ сѫ быле человѣцы съ тѣло като насъ, but when we celebrate the saints we have to think, that they were humans with a body as we are
но живѣели чисто и праведно, съ постъ и молитвы: but they lived purely and righteously, with fasting and prayers
за тꙋй сѧ про-славили отъ бога. that is why they were glorified by God
И нïе не ги празднꙋваме за дрꙋго, само да чꙋеме и да разꙋмѣеме какъ сѫ живѣли тѣ, и какъ сѧ покорѧвали тѣло то на дꙋша та, and we do not celebrate them for anything else but to hear and understand how they lived, and how they subdued their body by their souls
за да живѣеме и нïе като тѣхъ so that we can live as they did too
и да правиме онова, което иска дꙋша та и чистыѧ разꙋмъ. and that we will do that, what our soul and pure mind wants
Да побѣдиме бѣсна тѫ волѧ на наше- то тѣло, и лꙋкавы тѣ хитрости на дïавола, may we defeat the devilish will of our body and evil schemes of the Devil
както сѫ ги побѣдили сич-ки те божии угодницы мѫжѣ и жени. as they were defeated by all those men and women, who were pleasing to God
Каквото и днешна та преподоб-наѧ Параскева, (such) as today's reverend Parascheva (did)
коѧто сега празднꙋваме и почитаме за нейны те до-брины, съ които е живѣла на този свѣтъ. whom we celebrate today and respect (her) for her virtues and respect for the virtues, with which she lived in this world
За което и богъ ѧ про-слави for that (ʺwhichʺ) she was glorified
и упази нейно то тѣло толко годины въ землѧ тѫ да не изгнïе, and her body was preserved by God for so many years in the earth from decay
както ще чꙋете сега отъ нейна та исторïа. as you will hear in this story
Свѣтаѧ Параскева бѣше отъ село Єпиватъ, въ Сърбïѧ близо до градъ Каликратïа, St. Parascheva was from the village of Epibates in Serbia, close to the city of Kalikratia
тѧ бѣше родена отъ христïански родители, които бѣха чи-сти, праведни и украсены съ много добрины, she was born to (ʺfromʺ) Christian parents, who were pure, righteous and made beautiful by many virtues
и учеха свѧта Параскева сѣкога на законъ божий и на добры нравы and they taught St. Parascheva always the law of God and good habits
Тѣ като умрѧха, свѣта Параскева начна да живѣе прескорбно, и да мѫчи свое то тѣло, съ постъ, молитвы и бдѣнïѧ. when they died, St. Parascheva began to live ascetically, torturing her body with fasting, praying and staying awake
И като сѧ запали отъ любовь за бога, о-стави този многомѧтежный (таватꙋрный) свѣтъ and as she enflamed herself by love for God, she left this troubled world
и отиди въ пꙋсты-нѧ тѫ (въ гора та,) гдѣто живѣеше ангелски: and she went into the desert (the forest), where she lived as an angel
защото ꙗдѧла само тра-вѫ и плодове, които сѧ намервали въ онаѧ горѫ, because she ate only grass and fruits, which were in that forest
но и отъ тѣхъ по малко. but also them only a little
Тамо живѣѧла на зимныѧ мразъ и на лѣтныѧ пекъ, there she lived in the wintery cold and summer heat
гдѣто само бога гледала, предъ когото проливала сълзы като рѣка, where she looked only towards God, in front of whom she poured tears like a river
плачела и въздышала на гола тѫ землѧ, she cried and moaned on a naked ground
трꙋдила сѧ да умертви тѣло то и да просвѧт дꙋша тѫ, she worked hard to kill the body and to make her soul holy
тамо гдѣто никой не ѧ гледалъ, само божïе то око което сичко види. there, where nobody was looking, only the eye of God, which sees all
Тѧ за този свѣтъ не мыслела she did not think about this world
само за дꙋша тѫ сѧ грижала динѧ и нощѧ in day and in night, she cared only for her soul
 и дꙋмала: and she spoke:
господи, тебе сѣкога мыслѧ ʺo Lord, I think (of) you alwaysʺ
и тебе желае, ʺand I want youʺ
кога ще дода предъ тебе, да сѧ веселе сѣкога? ʺwhen will I come to you, to rejoice forever?ʺ
Тѫй като сѧ молила на бога и живѣеши чисто, много пѫти дïавола сѧ престрꙋваше на разны звѣрове, as she prayed to God and lived purely, the Devil many times changed into various beasts
и тичаше върхꙋ неѧ да ѧ уплаши, and he ran against her to scare her
но тѧ като сѧ прекръстеше, раскасваше дïаволски тѣ хитрости като па-ѧчина, but when she crossed herself, she torn up the Devil's schemes like a spider web
и побѣдѧваше дïавола като Давидъ Голïѧта; and she was defeating the Devil as David (defeated) Goliath
защото самъ богъ живѣѧше въ неѧ, за нейнѫ тѫ голѣмѫ чистотѫ. because God Himself lived in her, for her great purity
Тамо като живѧла много годины, доди една нощь ангелъ божий при неѧ as she lived there for many years, one night an angel of God came to her
 и рече: and he said:
О дѣви-це (мома) остави сега пꙋстынѧ тѫ ʺo maiden, leave the desert nowʺ
и иди въ твое то отечество: ʺand go to your homelandʺ
защото тамо трѣбѫ да отдадешь тѣло то си на землѧ тѫ, ʺbecause there you have to give your body to the earthʺ
а дꙋша тѫ си на бо-га. ʺbut your soul (you will give) to Godʺ
Тога свѣта Параскева като разꙋмѣ свое то преставленïе (ꙋмира-нïе), ако и да и бѣше мило за пꙋстынѧ тѫ, въ коѧто живѣеше като ангелъ, но пакъ стана as St. Parascheva understood her coming death, even if she liked the desert, where she lived as an angel, nevertheless she stood up
и отиди пьрво въ Цари-градъ, and she went first to Tsarigrad
гдѣто като вле-зи въ свѣта Софïа и во влахерна (балаклии) there she entered (the church of) St. Sophia and Blachernae
и сѧ поклони, and she knelt (there)
отъ тамо стана she stood up from there
и отиди въ свое то отечество въ село то Єпиватъ, гдѣто поживѣ неколко време съ постъ и молитвѫ. and she went to her fatherland, the village of Epibates, where she lived for some time, fasting and praying
И като разꙋмѣ скоро то си пре-ставленïе (ꙋмиранïе), помоли сѧ богꙋ за своѧ тѫ дꙋша и за сичкïѧ свѣтъ, and when she understood that she was going to die, she prayed to God for her soul and for the whole world
предади блаженнѫ тѫ си дꙋша въ божии тѣ рѫцѣ, (and) she gave her blessed soul to the hands of God
и ѧ погрибаха въ ед-но просто мѣсто. and they buried her on a simple place
Но богъ, който искаше да прослави тѣло то на свѧтаѧ парас-кева; заради нейны тѣ добрины, показа го слѣдъ много годины чꙋдес-но. but God, who wanted to make the body of St. Parascheva famous because of her virtues, miraculously revealed it after many years
Защото гдѣто бѣши заровено тѣло то на свѧта параскевѫ, има-ше близо една кꙋла, в коѧто постѣше нѣкой постникъ. for close to the place, where the body of St. Parascheva was buried, there was a tower, in which a hermit was fasting
И единъ день като мина една гимïа, исфърлиха отъ неѧ единъ умрѧлъ гимиџïа край море то гдѣто бѣше кꙋла та, and one day, as one ship passed, they threw from her a dead sailor to the sea shore, (close to the place) where was the tower
който като сѣде много време не погребенъ, начна да смърди тешко. as it was there laying (ʺsittingʺ) for a long time unburied, it began to stink heavily
И като не можеше вечь да търпи постника, заповѣда на нѣкои человѣцы да го закопаѧтъ дълбоко въ землѧ тѫ да не смърди. and as the hermit could not suffer it any longer, he commanded some some people to bury it deep in the ground, so that it does not stink
Тѣзи человѣцы като копаѧха, намериха тѣло то на свѧта Параскевѫ цѣло и здраво, as those people dug, they found the body of St. Parascheva, whole and healthy (looking?)
но защото бѣха прости, не го познаха чи е свѣто тѣло (мощи), but, because they were simple, they did not recognize that it was a holy body
но заринаха го пакъ въ землѧ тѫ, but they buried it back to the earth
заровиха та-мо и смрадно то тѣло (and) they buried the stinking body there too
и си отидоха. and they went away
Тога единъ отъ тѣзи человѣцы, then, one of those people
комꙋто име то бѣше Георгий, whose name was Georgi
видѣ на сънъ презъ нощь тѫ еднѫ царицѫ, на свѣтливъ престолъ съ много вой-ны, saw in a dream in the night a queen (sitting) on a shiny throne, with many soldiers
коѧто мꙋ рече: who said to him:
Георгïе защо не почетохте онова тѣло, което е на свѣта Параскевѫ? ʺGeorgi, why did you not show respect to that body, which belongs to St. Parascheva?ʺ
и защо го погребохте съсъ онова смрадно тѣло? ʺand why did you bury it with that stinking body?ʺ
Но скоро да отидите да ми извадите отъ тамо тѣло то, ʺbut go soon to take it the body out of thereʺ
и да го тꙋрите на избранно мѣсто: ʺand to put it to a chosen placeʺ
защото не мога вечь да търпѣ онова смрадно тѣ-ло, ʺbecause I cannot stand that stinking body anymoreʺ
понеже и азъ сѫмь человѣкъ ʺbecause I am a human tooʺ
и мое то село е Єпиватъ въ което ты сега живѣешь. ʺand my (home) village is Epibates, where do you dwell nowʺ
Тꙋй сѫщо то санꙋвала и една жена, one woman had the same dream too
и на утринѫ тѫ ка-то убадиха на хора та и сѫ расчꙋ, тога земаха свѣщи, отидоха съсъ страхопочитанïе, and in the morning, as they told the people and it became known, they took the candles and went with awe
и като извадиха мощи то на свѣта Параскевѫ, зане-соха го въ Єпиватъ, and when they took out the relics of St. Parascheva, they carried them to Epibates
и го тꙋриха въ церковѫ тѫ, and they placed them in the church
което направи много исцѣленïѧ на болны и бѣсны, по онаѧ странѫ които дохождаха съ вѣрѫ. what caused many healings of ill and mad in that land, (as long as they were) coming with faith
Но подиръ много време but after a long time,
Іоаннъ краль българский като чꙋ за това чꙋ-дотворно мощи, John, king of Bulgaria, after he heard about those miraculous relics,
проводи Марка митрополита Преславскаго съ много свѣщенницы, sent Mark the Metropolite of Preslav with many clerics
които принесоха това мощи отъ Єпифатъ, въ столныѧ градъ Търновъ, they brought those relics from Epibates to the capital of Tarnovo
и го тꙋриха въ царскѫ тѫ церковѫ, and they placed them in the royal church
което даваше раз-ны исцѣленïѧ. where (ʺwhatʺ) it gave various healings
А тꙋрскïѧ царь Селимъ вторый като облада сичка та Болгарïа и убра украшенïе то на търновски те церкви, зема и мощи то на свѣта Параскевѫ, което занесе въ Цари-градъ but when the Turkish king Selim II, as he conquered the whole Bulgaria and robbed all the ornaments of Tarnovo churches, he took the relics of St. Parascheva as well, taking them to Tsarigrad
и го тꙋри въ своѧ сарай гдѣто даваше много исцѣленïѧ, and he placed them in his palace, where it (also) gave many healings
за което начнаха и тꙋрцы те да мꙋ сѧ покланѣтъ. thus the Turks began to venerate them too
Тога царь Селимъ сѧ уплаши да не сѧ расчꙋе, и да не повѣрватъ тꙋрцы те, then king Selim feared they will become famous and that Turks will start to believe (in Christ)
за тꙋй го дади на цариградски тѣ христïа-ни, thus he gave them to the Christians of Tsarigrad
които ги тꙋриха въ патрïаршескѫ тѫ цeрквѫ. who placed them in the church of the patriarch
Послѣ като го прочꙋлъ молдавскïѧ кнѧзъ Иоаннъ Василïевъ, поискалъ да го принесе въ mолдавïѧ, then, after they became known to John Vasiliev, prince of Moldavia, he wanted to bring them to Moldavia
което и полꙋчи съ божïѧ тѫ волѧ: what he was granted with God's willing
защото като го поиска отъ цариградскïѧ патрïархъ Партенïа, той мꙋ го про-водилъ съ трима митрополиты: Іоникïа, Партенïа и Ѳеофана, because, when he asked the Patriarch Parthenius of Tsarigrad, he sent them to him with three metropolites: Ioannikios, Parthenius and Theofanos
които принесоха тꙋй свѣто мощи въ молдавïа, въ столныѧ градъ Ꙗшъ, thus they brought the holy relics into Moldavia, to the capital city of Jassy
и го тꙋриха въ церковѫ тѫ на три свѧтители въ 1641 подиръ христа въ 14 Октомврïа. and they placed them in the Church of Three Apostles in (year) 1641 after Christ, on the 14th (day) of October
Христïане видите ли какъ сѫ живѣли праведни те хора, o Christians, do you see, how the righteous people lived?
тѣ не гледали за много пары и голѣмѫ славѫ, they did not seek (to have) a lot of money and fame
но трꙋдили сѧ динѧ и нощѧ, да о-чистѧтъ своѧ тѫ дꙋша. but they worked in day and night to purify their soul
За тꙋй и богъ ги прослави на небе то и на зе-млѧ тѫ, for that reason also God made them famous in the heavens and on the earth
да сѧ славѧтъ и почитатъ вѣчно. so that they are praised and respected for eternity
Тѫй и нïе като чꙋхме какъ живѣли тѣ, трѣбѫ да сѧ потрꙋдиме да украсиме дꙋша тѫ си съ до-брины: thus we, too, having heard how they lived, should work to make our soul more beautiful by virtues
защото синца ще умреме, както сѫ умрели сички те преди насъ, because we all will die, as all those before us died
и ще даваме отвѣтъ за сички те работы, които направихме въ живо-та си: and we will be giving answer for all deeds we did in our lives
съ праздны хораты, съ преслꙋшанïе, съ лꙋкаво гледанïе, съ кꙋр-варство и дрꙋги злины. (what we did) with empty words, with eavesdropping, with evil looking, with adultery, and (with) other vices
Но сега е време да оставиме сички те злины, but now is the time to leave all the vices behind
да угодимъ на бога may we please God
и да станиме наслѣдницы на царство небесное, съ молитви те на днешна тѫ божïѧ угодница свѣтаѧ Параскевѫ, и съ помощь тѫ Iисꙋсъ Христова. and may we become the inheritors of the Kingdom of Heaven by the prayers of the today's saint St.Parascheva and with the help of Jesus Christ
Ємꙋ же слава во вѣки вѣковъ, (may) the glory (be) to Him in eternity!
 аминь. amen
