7:	ne tь´čiju že, nьʺ i po vьséljenněì tojè w´brě´šteši w´bnósimo ímè.	And you can find her name to be carried around not only (there), but over the whole world.
8:	mnógà oúbò í dlь´ga boúdetь w´ prěpodw´bněì seʺi pově´stь.	For the story of this Reverend (Petka) will be voluminous and long.

10:	(Sià) oúbò staa prěpodw´bnaà pétka. (wtčь´stvo) ímějaše épïvati.	this Saint Reverend Petka's fatherland was Epibates (ʺhad Epibates as her fatherlandʺ)
	(róditelje) žè blgočstívïi,	(and she had) pious parents
	xódeštïix vь v'sě(x) (bžiixь) zapově´dexь ne oúklón'no.	following all the Divine commands without going astray
	(milostinjami) í blgotvórenïi vьsoù svojù (oukrašajušte) žíznь.	making their lives beautiful by alms and good deeds
11:	Vъspítaše že (siju) dobrujù čístoujù góloubicu xvoù, (vь pwdobnyʺxь) n'rávoxь.	and they raised this good, pure dove of Christ in good manners
12:	i zakónou bžïjù (dobrě) touʺ nakázav'še,	and after they taught her the Divine Law well
	vь nbsnyʺjè prěidoše w´býtěli.	they went over to the heavenly dwellings
	Naslě´dnicou dómou w´stávlьše pétkoù, sъ brátomь eϋѳímïemь,	leaving Petka as the heiress to their house behind, together with (her) brother Euthymius
	íže i poslě´žde epsk'pь máditou býstь.	who afterwards became the bishop of Madytos

	ápslъskomou oúsrь´dno vьzrévnovà žítïjù.	she staunchly desired to live as an apostle
	postómь í bdě´nïemь íz'noúrajè tě´lo. zlòstrádanïi že í na zémlì lě´ganïi.	conquering the (desires of the?) body by fasting and staying awake, by hardships and laying on the ground

20:	nьʺ nìže toʺ sámojè býlïe nìže vódu do sítosti prijemljaše,	but she consumed neither the herbs nor water to (the point of) satisfaction
	nьʺ málo í xoúdě	but only less and poorly
	í seʺ źě´lò kь véčerou..	and even that only late in the evening
21:	Ktoʺ bw tojè íže tógdà sьpově´stь slь´znyi ístóčnikь. sténanïa že čéstaa (i) neprěstán'na,	for who would (be able to) tell of the well of tears and (her) frequent and endless moanings

24:	Ne bò bě´še támo ínógò (kogo) sьmátrati taʺ móguštaʺgo,	for there was no one able to see those (deeds)
	tь´čïjù (iže) v'sà nazyrajuštejè wkò.	but only that all-seeing eye (of God)
25:	ne běʺ toì (tamo) popečénïe w´ soúprugoxь vólwvьʺ. (niže) w´ zlátooúzdnyʺxь kónjexь.	there was no care for teams of oxen, nor of horses with golden bridles
	nì (w wdeždaxь) í posteljaxь.	nor for clothes or bedding
	ne w´ dómox (i) rabinjaxь,	nor for houses and handmaids
	nьʺ w´ dšévnomь wčíšteniʺ. W wtvě´tě boúduštàgo soúda.	only about purifying (her) soul, about the answers at the Last Judgement
	w´ srětenïi žénixově.	about the meeting of the Bridegroom, saying:
	tébe žéniše moì íštoù gljúštïi.	ʺyou, o my bridegroom, do I wantʺ
	i w´nò ježe vь pě´nïixь vínou vь oúmě` nóseštïi	and also that (verse) in the Song (of the songs), which she always beared in her mind
	gljúštejè..	saying:
	Vъzvě´stite mi egóže vьzljubì dša mojà.	ʺtell me about him, whom my soul lovesʺ
26:	w´ sémь čésto bolě´znoujáše, káko oúkrásitь svě´til'nikь.	she worried often about how to make her lamp prettily
	káko másla ísplь´nitь.	how to fill it with oil
	káko sládkàgo žénixova oúslýšitь glása.	how she'll notice the sweet voice of her Bridegroom
	káko dvámь sьlíkьstvujetь moúdryʺmь.	how can she liken herself to the wise virgins
	káko žénixova nasládit se zrě´nïa. krásoti. slávy, svě´tlosti. sьprěbývanïa, blžén'stva.	how she'll enjoy the Bridegroom's sight, beauty, glory, lightness, presence, happiness
27:	w´ sémь tь´čïjù tojè srdce. bolě´znьno bě´še.	her heart was aching only because of that
28:	w´ sémь tojè w´či slь´zami pomráčajemyʺ bě´xou vínu.	her eyes were always darkened by tears because of that
	kógdà prïídu gljúštiʺ i jávljú se lícou bžïjù..	ʺwhen can I comeʺ, speaking, ʺand show myself to the face of God?ʺ
29:	Vъ síxь í sícevïix toì oúprážnjajušti se í pékouštïi se.	as she worked hard (ʺtrained and struggledʺ) in this way
	nikákože prěstà loúkavyʺ touʺ ískoúšajuštïi, mь´čtan'mi že í privíděn'mì.	the Evil wasn't going to stop trying to seduce her by dreams and apparitions
	Mnóžiceju že í vь razlíčnyje zvě´ry sébe prětvárajuštïi,	turning himself many times into various beasts
	éže káko by toì spónou wttečénïa sьtvórilь.	so that he could cause her to leave (the desert)
30:	nьʺ	but the good Petka ʺmade the Most High her dwellingʺ by the well of tears in her eyes
	dóbraa pétkà výšnjàgo polóži pribě´žište sébě. slь´znïì wt wčijù neprěstán'no ízvódeštiʺ ístóčnikь..	(ʺwell of endlessly-from-her-eyes-pouring tearsʺ)
31:	Síce oúbò toì vь žénьskomь jéstvě moúžьskyì stéžav'šïi razoúmь. vъsè vrážïe jákóže ně´kotoroujù paoúčínu razáraàše kь´zny.	And thus, gaining a manly mind with the womanly nature, she destroyed all of the Enemy's machinations as some spider web.
32:	i jákóže dvdь na kь´ždò dnь mýslьnàgo nizlágaàše gólïaѳa.	and as David, she vanquished the Goliath every day
33:	i běʺ víděti íže vь zlóbě vél'mì xváleštago se zmïà,	and one could see the dragon, basking strongly in his anger
	xoúdě nizlágaemaʺ i popíraemà wt moúdrïe seʺje dvy,	suffering crushing defeats and denials by that wise maiden

34:	I síce oúbò podvíg'ši se na jéstvo. í síce svojù oúkrási dšu,	and thus, fightning with the nature, so she made her soul beautiful
35:	jakóže í ná toì ísplь´niti se slóvo w´nò prrw´čьskoè,	thus the prophetic words were fulfilled in her case:
36:	vьždélějetь crь dóbrotě tvojeì.	ʺLet the king be enthralled by your beautyʺ (Ps 44:11)
37:	í táko oúbò dějanïemь vь víděnïi w´brě´te vьsxódь.	and in such works she found ascension
38:	í slóvomь í dě´lomь žítïe oúkrášьšïi,	and making her soul beautiful by words and works
	prěbýstь lě´ta dovól'nà vь poústiny..	she spent enough years in the desert
39:	Vъ jedínu že wt nóšteì	one night (ʺin one of the nightsʺ)
	ná mltvou sébe w´býčno vьdáv'ši.	as she gave herself to the prayer, as usual
	í roúcě na nbo oúmíljen'ně vьzdějav'šïi,	and as she raised her hands with love towards heavens
	zriʺtь ně´kotórojè bžstьv'noè víděnïe. júnóšu ně´koego svě´tla	she saw some kind of a divine apparition: a shiny young man
	kь njeì prišь´d'ša	coming to her
	í síce gljúšà.	and thus speaking:
40:	poústynjù w´stávlьši kь wtčь´stvoù vьzvráti se,	ʺreturn to your fatherland as you leave the desertʺ
41:	támo bo tébě tě´lo podw´baetь zémlì w´staviti,	ʺfor there it's appropriate for you to leave the body in the groundʺ
	dxь že vь ne véštьstьvnaà prěvésti seljénïa..	ʺand to transfer your spirit to the immaterial realmʺ
42:	Sílou oúbò víděnïa rasmótrivь.	as she saw the power of the apparition
	í bžstv'no toʺ býti razoúměvь.	and as she understood it was divine
	radoujaše se oúbò w´ tě´lesnomь raspréženi,	she rejoiced about being freed from the body
43:	pečálujaše že w´ wstávljeni pustýnjè.	but she was worried about leaving the desert
44:	Ničtòže bw inò táko dšu wčíštaetь í vь prь´vow´bráznojè privóditь, jákóže poústynjà í bez'mlь´vïe.	for nothing else purifies the soul and brings it to the primordial (perfection) than the desert and the silence
45:	w´báče oúbò i ne xótešti pustýnjù w´stáv'lь vь mírь vьzvráti se.	but even though she didn't want to leave the desert, she returned to the world
46:	I kъ crstvoujuštomou prišь´d'ši grádou, vь bžïà slóva prěkrásnyʺ prïíde xrámь.	and as she arrived to Tsarigrad (ʺthe reigning cityʺ), she entered the temple of the of (John) the Evangelist
47:	čtò ne dějušti í tvóreštïi.	And what she wouldn't do be doing (there)?
	kolě´nomь čéstaà tvóreštïi poklónjenïa.	Doing frequent knee-bendings,
	slь´znyjè tóčeštïi ístóčniky.	pouring wells of tears,
	wt srdca čéstaà íspoúštajuštiʺ sténanïa.	letting frequent moanings from the heart,
	í poústyn'noè pomínajušti prěbývanïe,	and remembering the life in the desert,
	ljútojù sьně´daemaʺ bě´še pečálïjù.	as she was being overcome by sadness.
48:	í po sémь,	and afterwards
	jákóže ljúbodě´l'naʺ p'čéla vьsè prolě´tniè cvě´ty, síce íže támo vьsà staa ljúbotroúdně w´býšьdь mě´sta.	as she dilligently visited all of the places there as a dilligent bee (visits) the spring flowers
	kь prěsvě´tlomu xvì mtére prïíde xrámou, íže i vláxer'na íménoujet se dáže do dnsь.	she came to the shiny temple of the mother of Christ, which is also called Blachernae
49:	í támo kь tojè čь´stněì pripád'ši íkóně,	and there, falling to her honorable icon
	tóplyjè ne štédno íslívaʺše slь´zy.	she poured hot tears unsparingly
	Tébě gljúšti vldčce mírou vь´sь` moì vьzlóžix žívotь.	saying: ʺI gave you all my life, o Lady of the Worldʺ
50:	ná tè vьsoù mojù vьzlágajù nadéždu dvíce,	ʺupon you I lay all my hopes, o Virginʺ
51:	ne wtríni oúbógojù méne.	ʺdon't cast my poor self awayʺ

53:	Vě´si nemóštь žén'skàgo jéstva dvo.	ʺyou know, o Virgin, the frailty of the female natureʺ
54:	vě´si dše mojeè w´zlóbljenïe.	ʺyou know the evils of my soulʺ

56:	ne imámь ínógò pokróva.	ʺI have no other roofʺ

60:	Don'dě´že vь poustýni xóždaàxь, tébe posóbnicu ímějaxь.	ʺyou were my helper, when I walked in the desertʺ
61:	nnja že jáko kь mírou vьz'vrátix' se, kótoroujù droùgouʺ pomóštь rázvě` tébè trě´bujù.	ʺand now, as I returned to the world, what other help do I need but yourself?ʺ
62:	Nnja oúbò vldčce prědstáni mi oúbózěì.	ʺbut now, come to my poor self, o Ladyʺ
63:	i boúdi mi supoútnica, nastávnica, w´krь´mitel'nica	ʺand be my companion, my advisor and my supportʺ
	dáže do kón'ca žízny mojeè.	ʺeven until the end of my lifeʺ
64:	ínouju bò nadéždoù krómě tébě ne imámь..	ʺfor I have no hope but yourselfʺ
65:	Síce oúbò vьsèdšьně pomól'ši se.	thus, wholeheartedly (ʺwholesoul-lyʺ) praying

66:	Došь´d'ši že épïvati,	and as she reached Epibates
	prěbystь támo vrě´me ne málo,	she spent there a long (ʺnot just a bitʺ) time
	troúdy kъ troúdomь, í bolě´zny kь bolě´znemь prilágaè.	adding works to works and pains to pains
	postómь í bdě´nïemь sébe oúkrášajè, i	making herself beautiful by fasting and staying awake
	édína kь jedínomu vínou besě´doujuštïi..	and thinking about a single thing (?)
67:	Vrě´meni že ne málu mímošьd'šoù.	and after some (ʺnot just a bitʺ) time passed
	svojè wtxóždenïe jéže wt soúdou razoúmě.	she understood that she will depart from this world (ʺwhich is from henceʺ)

	dá me ne prězriši svojù oúbógujù rábou,	ʺdo not frown upon me, your pitiful servantʺ
	íže rádì tvoego prěstgo íméne vьsà w´stávlьšujù,	ʺwho left everything behind for your holy nameʺ
	í tébě poslě´dovav'šujù.	ʺand followed youʺ
70:	í nnja vьsè štédre gi. povélì ágglu mír'noù	ʺand now, o Lord, generously command a peaceful angelʺ
	prijeti mírno oúbóguju mi dšou.	ʺto peacefuly take my poor soulʺ
71:	í da ne vьz'bránьn' mì boúdetь vьsxódь wt ne čístyʺxь í skvrь´n'nyʺxь i loúkavïixь běsw´vьʺ.	ʺand that my ascent won't be barred by unclean and tainted and evil demonsʺ

75:	I táko blžén'noujù svojù dšu vь roúcě prědástь bžïi.	and thus she gave her blessed soul to God's hands
76:	Tě´lo že jeè polóženo býstь vь gróbě wt někótorïix xrístoljúbcь.	and her body was put to a grave by some Christ-lovers
77:	ne bò w´bьjavì sébe kómu ktoʺ i wt koúdu běʺ.	for she didn't tell anyone who she was and whence she came
78:	nь` běʺ ne poznávaemà do dne ísxóda jeè jéže kъ gou♦	but she remained unknown until the day of her ascent to the Lord
79:	Sícevïi podvízy prěpodwbnyjè pétky.	such were the deeds of the Reverend Petka
80:	sícevi bór'by dxóvnyjè mtére.	such were the struggles of (our) spiritual mother
	jáže vь málo vrě´me na zémlì podvíg'ši se, í zlòstrádav'šïi,	who walked the earth for a short time and suffered badly
	vélikouʺ na nbsě´xь vьsprijetь slávou..	(but then) received great glory in the heavens
81:	Nьʺ ni táko prě´zrě` bь svojù rábou na mnózě bezьpamétnoù léžati.	but God wouldn't frown upon His servant by leaving her to lie without memory
	nìže tljeʺjù rastlě´ti se neporóčnomou w´nómu tě´lesi.	nor (by) leaving that untainted body (of her) to rot (ʺby corruptionʺ)
82:	Nьʺ i w´ sémь čjúdo pokáza dívno..	but He shown a miraculous wonder on it
83:	Stlь´p'niku oúbò tógdà blízь ně´gdè touʺ na stlь´pě bezьmlь´stvoujuštu. í sébě í bvì vьnímajuštouʺ.	as one hermit was fasting and dedicating himself to God somewhere nearby
	sloúči se kórabnikou ně´kojemu nedoúgomь ljútyʺmъ bolě´v'šou skón'čati se,	a sailor, who was suffering from a dire illness, died (ʺit happend to one sailor...to dieʺ)
	í touʺ ně´gdè povrь´ženu býti.	and he was thrown somewhere over there (ʺand to be thrown thereʺ)
84:	Načét že smrádь ísxóditi bez'mě´r'nь,	and terrible stench began to come out
	jáko ne vьz'móšti nikómuže mínouti íže blízь touʺ priblýžajuštïim' se poútemь.	not allowing to pass anyone, who would close by (ʺby his wayʺ)
	ne tь´čiju že,	and not only for them
	nьʺ i stlь´p'nikou wt éže ne móšti ne sьtrь´pimàgo smráda w´nógò trь´pěti.	but it was also impossible for the hermit to withstand that stench
	ponoúždaenou býv'šou wt stlьpa sьníti.	so (much) that he had to step down from (his) pillar
	jákóže í ně´kyʺmь povélěti, rw´vъ ískópati glь´bokь,	to command somebody to dig a deep grave
	í smrь´deštïi w´nь` támo vьvr´gnuti troúpь.	and to throw there that stinking corpse
85:	w´ní že sь oúsrь´dnjemь povelěn'nojè prijem'še, oúspě´vaʺxu vь dě´lě.	and they, accepting the task seriously, hasted in their work
86:	Vъ síxь oúbò tě´mь oúprážnjajuštim' se	as they were working on it
	í rw´vь oúglь´bljavajuštimь.	and as they were making the grave deep (already)
	Wbrě´toše tělo vь zémlì léžoušte,	they found a body laying in the earth
	tljú že nikákože pwdjem'še.	which wasn't rotten (ʺdid not start to rot in any wayʺ)
87:	Oúžásni že býv'še i čjúdese koúpno ísplь´n'še se, ne dooúmě´vàxu se w sьlučь´šïim' se.	(Even if) they were amazed and filled with wonder, they did not comprehend what happened.
88:	w´báče jáko ne ískoúsnì í ne vě´žde soúšte.	but as they were unexperienced and stupid (ʺwere not wiseʺ)
	sъloúčьšeje se jákóže ně´koujù málu í ničésože soúštou véštь prězrě´v'še,	looking upon what happened as if it were something little (ʺand nothingʺ)
	blízu ně´gdè touʺ troúpь w´nь zlòsmrádnyʺ zarínouše.	they buried the stinking corpse somewhere nearby
