xodę́štixъ vo vsě́xъ zápwvědexъ Bž҃ıixъ ne uklónno, following all the Divine commands without going astray
ml͒tinęmi î bl҃gotvorén'mi vsju svojù oûkra-šájuštix' žíznь: making their lives beautiful by alms and good deeds
5: ʾí že î sı´ju vospitáša čs҃tuju Golubı´cu Xv҃u v' podóbněxъ nrávěxъ, and they raised this good, pure dove of Christ in good manners
6: î zákonu Bž҃ıju dóbrě tu nakazávše, and after they taught her the Divine Law well
v' Nb͒nyę preĭdẃša ôbíteli, they went over to the heavenly dwellings
naslědnicu dómu ŵstávl'še Paraskévïju sъ Brátomъ Eѵѳímïemъ, leaving Petka as the heiress to their house behind, together with (her) brother Euthymius
ʾí že poslě́žde Ep͒pъ Madítu bystь, who afterwards became the bishop of Madit
7: î mnwga î pre-slávna sotvorì támw čudesà v' životě̀ svoémъ î po- prestavlénïi. and he did there many famous miracles
8: Prpdbnaę oûbw po smérti rwdíteleĭ svoix, tě́snyĭ î priskórbnyĭ pútь načátь proxodíti, as the Reverend (Petka) sent her parents to the God well
9: î st҃yx' oûsérdno vozrevnovà žítïju, and she staunchly desired to live as an apostle
póstom' î bdénïem' oûmerštvlę́ę tě́lo svoè, conquering the (desires of the?) body by fasting and staying awake, by hardships and laying on the ground
î poraboštáę ʾè dx҃ovi. and subduing it to the spirit
10: wt sjúdu î Bž͒tvénnym razžégši sę želánïem', from now on, being engulfed by her divine desire
ne sterpě na mnẃzě v' mnogomętežnom mı´rě žíti, she couldn't torment herself anymore by living in this troubled world
11: no vsę̀ ŵstávl'ši bě́gu jat sę, and, leaving everything behind, began to run away (ʺtook a runʺ)
12: î pustýnju dostígši, ravno ʾágg҃lnoe provoždáše žítïe, and, as she reached the desert, she lived an equally angelic life there
Bgo҃vídca Ilïju î İwánna Kr͒títelę podražáę: imitating the life of Prophet Eliah and John the Baptist
býlïe tóčïju pustýnnoe v'kušájušti, eating only the desert herbs
î segẁ źě́lo málo: and even of that only a bit
13: stúdenïju že î źnóem' bě îstaeváę, she was exposed to cold and heat as well
14: î kъ êdínomu tóčïju v'ziráše sps҃tì mogúštemu wt malodúšïę î búrę smirennyę srdcemъ. and she looked towards the only one capable of saving from ʺthe tempest and the stormʺ
15: kto ʾúbw toę̀ ʾí že togdà îspově́st' sleznyĭ îstóčnikъ? for who would (be able to) tell of that well of tears?
16: stenánïa že částaę î ne prestáemaę kto skážetъ? and who tells of (her) frequent and endless moanings
17: nízulěgánïę î oûmerštvlénïę vsegdášnaę kto îzrečétъ? who will tell of her prostrations and her torment?
18: ne bě́ bw támw ʾínogw kogẁ, vsę ta smatrę́ti mogúštago, ʾjá že tvorę́še Prpdbnaę: tóčïju vse vidę́štee ʾóko bž҃ıe. for there was no one able to see her but only that all-seeing eye (of God)
19: ne bě̀ tóĭ támo popečénïę ô sustě̀ mı´rstěĭ, tóčïju ô dš҃évnomъ ôčišténïi, î ŵ wtvě́tě búduštagw súda, ô strěténïi Ženixóvě: there was no care for worldly vanities (?), only about purifying (her) soul, about the answers at the Last Judgement, for the meeting with the Bridegroom
tebè ženíše moĭ îštù gl҃jušti: saying: ʺyou, o my bridegroom, do I wantʺ
î tò ʾé že v' Pě́snex Pě́snïĭ, výnu vъ ʾúmě nosę́šti: and also that (verse) in the Song (of the songs), which she always beared in her mind
21: Vozvěstíte mi êgẃ že vozljubì dš҃à moę̀. ʺtell me about him, whom my soul lovesʺ
22: ô sémъ bolěznováše, kákw oûkrasít' světílnik svoĭ, she worried often about how to make her lamp prettily
î s' mdrimi dv҃ami îzyĭdetъ vъ strěténïe Ženixù, how she goes to meet the Bridegroom
î oûslýšit' sládkïĭ glasъ êgẁ, how she'll notice the sweet voice of her Bridegroom
î nasladít sę zrě́nïę krasotỳ êgẁ, how she'll enjoy his beauty
23: ô sem tóčïju pečáše sę gl҃jušti: she cared only for this, saying:
24: Kogdà prïĭdù î jâvljú sę licù Bž҃ıju. ʺwhen can I go and meet the God?ʺ
25: tákw ʾéĭ živúšteĭ v' pustyně, lukávyĭ vragъ zavidę́še dobrodě́telem êę̀, as she lived thus in the desert, the evil enemy was jealous of her virtues
26: î tštáše sę mečtánïami î prividě́nïami ûstrašíti jû: and he tried to scare her by dreams and apparitions
27: množíceju bw v' razlíčnya źvě́ry sebè pretvorívъ na st҃úju oûstre-mlę́še sę, da bỳ ʾéĭ spónu wttečénïa vozmógl' sotvoríti: and, turning himself often to various beasts, he charged against the saint, trying to make her to leave (the desert)
28: no dóbraa nevě́sta Xv҃a Paraskévïę, Výšnęgw položì pribě́žište sebě̀, but the good Petka ʺmade the Most High her dwellingʺ
29: î êgẁ pómoštïju, Kr͒tà že st҃ágw známenïem', vragì progonę́še, and by His help, as well as by the sign of Holy Cross, she routed all enemies
30: î vsę̀ kózni êgẁ ʾjákože ně́kuju paučínu rasterzà î do koncà nizložì, and she broke and laid low all the enemy machinations as a spider web
31: v' žénskom bo ʾésts҃tvě, múžeskïĭ stęžávši rázumъ, ákože Dv҃ídъ Golïáda, táko ônà dïávola pobědì. thus, having gained the manly cunning in the nature of a woman, she defeated the Devil, as David (once defeated) Goliath
32: sícevymi pódvi-gami î dobrodě́telnym' žítïem' svojù ûkrasívši dš҃u, bystь Xrs҃tù vozljublénnaę nevě́sta, ʾjáko îspolníti sę slóvu Proróčeskomu: by such deeds and virtuous life she became the beloved bride of the Christ, as to fulfill the prophecy:
33: Voždelě́etъ Cr҃ь dobrotě̀ tvoéĭ. ʺLet the king be enthralled by your beautyʺ
34: îbw vselí sę v' nju sъ Wtc҃ém' î st҃ým' Dx҃om', for He settled in her with the Father and the Holy Spirit
35: î počiváše v' néĭ ʾjákwže vъ Crk҃vě st҃ě́ĭ svoéĭ, and He dwelt in her as in His holy Church
36: vʾo ístinnu bw st҃áę Paraskévïę sotvorí sę Cr҃kovъ Bg҃a živágw, dš҃u î tě́lo sobljúdši bez' grěxà î bez' skvérny. truly St. Parascheva made herself into a temple of the Living God, holding her soul and body without a sin and taint
37: Egdà že prebýst' lě́ta dovolna v' pustýni: and as she lived for many years in the desert
vъ êdínu wt nóštïĭ, sta na ml҃ítvě po ôbýčaju svoému, one night she stood in prayer according to her customs
38: î rúcě ná Nb҃o sъ ûmilénïemъ vozdě́vši, and having raised her hands with love towards the heavens
oûzrě̀ Agg҃la Bž҃ıa vъ ôbrazě jûnóši presvě́tlagw, she saw an angel of God in an image of a shining youth
ʾí že prišédъ k' neĭ rečè: who, having come to her, said:
39: pustýnju ôstávi, ʺleave the desertʺ
40: î vъ wtčestvo vozvratí sę, ʺand return to your fatherlandʺ
41: támo bo tebě̀ podobáet' tě́lo zemlì wtdáti, ʺfor there it's appropriate for you to leave the body in the groundʺ
dx҃ъ že v' ne vešte-stvénnaę prevestì selénïa. ʺand to transfer your spirit to the immaterial realmʺ
42: Prpdbnaę ʾoúbw razsmo-trě́vši vidénïa sílu, î razumě́vši ʾjáko povelě́nïe to wt Bg҃a ʾéstъ: as the Reverend saw the power of the apparition, and as she understood that it was from God
rádovaše sę ŵ tělésnom' raspręžénïi, she rejoiced about being freed from the body
43: pe-čalováše že ŵ ôstavlénïi pustýni, but she was worried about leaving the desert
44: ničtó že bo táko dš҃u ôčištáetъ: î vъ pervʾoóbraznoe privódit', ʾjákwže pustýnę î bez'mól'vïe. for nothing else purifies the soul and brings it to the primordial (perfection) than the desert and the silence
45: ôbáče î ne xotę́šti pústýnju ôstávi, but even though she didn't want to leave the desert, she returned to the world
46: î kъ crstvújuštomu prišédši Grádu, v' prekrásny Xram' Prmdrosti Bž҃ıa v'nı´ĭde. and as she arrived to Tsarigrad (ʺthe reigning cityʺ), she entered the beautiful temple of the Divine Wisdom
47: tákožde î v' Bg҃oródičnoĭ ʾjá že vъ Vlaxérnaxъ Crk҃vi byst, and she was also in the church of the Mother of God, which is in Blachernae
48: î támw Bg҃u î Prečs҃těĭ Bg҃omáteri poklonívši sę, póĭde vъ wtčestvo svoè Epѵvát'. and, as she gave bowed there to God and the most pure Mother of God, she went to her fatherland Epibates
îdě́že ně́koe poživè vrémę ne îzměnę́a pu-stýnnagw svoégw trúda, pošténïa že î ml҃ítov'. where she lived for some time, not changing her desert work, fasting and prayers
49: tá že prispě́všu ʾé že kъ Bu҃ êę̀ wtšéstvïju, pom҃lí sę prilě́žno ô sebě̀ že î ô vsémъ mı´rě, and as she understood that she was going to pass herself to God, she prayed appropriately for herself and the whole world
50: î tákw bl҃žénnuju svojù dš҃u v' Rucě predadè Bž҃ıi. and thus she gave her blessed soul to God's hands
51: tě́lo že êę po ôbýčaju xr͒tïán-skomu v' zemlě̀ na mě́stě ne naročítomъ pogrebénnw byst vě́rnymi. and her body was buried in the soil on a non-exceptional place by some believers according to the Christian custom
52: xotę́ že Bь҃ prosláviti oûgódnicu svojù, jâvì po mnẃzěxъ' lě́tex st҃ýa ʾéę móšti sícevym ʾóbrazom: but as God wanted to praise His saint, He showed her relics after many years in the following way:
53: stólpnik ně́kïĭ, blizь togẁ mě́sta, îdě́že Prpdnaę pogrebénna byst: na stolpě̀ bez'mol'stvováše. a stylite was praying silently on a pillar somewhere near the place, where the Reverend was buried
54: slučí sę že korabléniku ně́koemu plovúštu, î nédugomъ ljútymъ bolě́všu î skončávšu sę, tu ně́gdě poveržénnu býti. and it happened to one sailor, who was sailing, and who became direly ill, and died, to be thrown somewhere there
55: načát' že wt trúpa êgẁ smradъ îsxodíti bezmě́renъ, ʾjákw ne moštì nikómu že îtì putém' těm. and a stench began to come out of his corpse so powerful, that nobody could pass by the road there
56: ne možáše že î stólpnik sterpě́ti smráda ʾónagw, nor the stylite could suffer the stench any longer
57: î núžda bě êmù rádi togò smráda wt stolpà snïĭtì. and it became a necessity for him to descend from the pillar because of the stench
58: povelě́ že ně́kïim' čl҃vě́komъ rovъ îskopáti glubókъ, î smerdęštïĭ ʾónyĭ támw vovreštì trúpъ. and he commanded some people to dig a deep grave and to throw there that stinking corpse
59: î êgdà kopáša čl҃vě́ci róvъ, po smotrénïju Bž҃ïju, ŵbrětẃša tě́lo ne tlě́nnw v' zemlì ležáštee, and as those people dug the grave, by the God's grace they found an undecayed body laying in the ground
60: î oûdivlę́xu sę ne tlě́nïju tě́la togò. and they were amazed by the lack of decay of the body
61: ôbáče ne îskúsni î ne vě́ži súšte, slučívšee sę ʾjákože ně́kuju malúju î ničesó že súštuju véšt' prezrě́ša, but as they were unexperienced and unwise, they ignored what happened as a small thing, which does not matter
62: gl҃axu bo k' sebě̀: for they said to each other:
63: ʾášte by st҃o bylò sïe tě́lo, wtkrílъ by ʾoúbw Bg҃ъ čudesì jâkovými; ʺif that was a holy body, God would show it by some miraclesʺ
64: î páki zasýpaša ʾè zemléju, and they covered it by the soil again
65: támožde î smer-dę́štagw vrínuvše trúpa, wtîdẃša v' dómy svoę̀. having thrown there the stinking corpse too, they went away to their homes
66: prišédšeĭ že nóšti, Geẃrgïĭ ně́ktw wt níxъ. múžъ Xr͒toljubívъ v' domù svoémъ ml҃ę́še sę Bg҃u. in that night, George, one of them, a Christ-loving man, prayed to God in his house
67: î kъ ʾoútru oûsnúvъ, vídě vidě́nïe: and having fallen asleep by the morning, he saw a vision:
68: mnę́še sę Carícu ně́kuju na presvě́tlomъ sědę́štuju Prestólě zrě́ti, it appeared to him to see a queen sitting on a shiny throne
î mnẃžestvw mnógw svě́tlyxъ vẃinъ ʾókrestъ toę̀ stoę́štixъ: and a great number of shiny soldiers staying around her
69: ʾíxъ že Xr͒toljubívyĭ ʾónъ čl҃vě́kъ víděvъ, stráxomъ ŵbę́t' býst', and as that Christ-loving man saw them, he was overtaken by fear
70: î ná zemlju sebè poveržè, ne mogïĭ svě́tlo-sti î krasotỳ ʾónoę zrě́ti. and he threw himself on the ground, unable to watch their shine and beauty
71: êdínъ že wt svě́tlyxъ tě́xъ vẃinovъ, ʾémъ êgẁ za rúku, vozdvižè gl҃ę: and one of the shiny warriors raised him by having seized him by arm, saying:
72: Geẃrgïe, voskúju tákw prezrě́ste tě́lw Prpdbnyę Paraskévïi, î pogrebẃste s' nímъ trúpъ smerdę́štïĭ? ʺo George, why did you thus ignore the body of Reverend Petka and buried it with a stinking corpse?ʺ
73: vo skórě ʾoúbo to îzémše, na čestnomъ položě́te mě́stě, ʺso quickly take it and place it on a honorable placeʺ
74: ʾíbw vosxotě̀ Bg҃ъ prosláviti Rabù svojù na zemlì. ʺbecause God wants to make His servant famous on the Earthʺ
75: tákožde î Svě́tlaę ta Cr҃íca gl҃a êmù: also the shiny queen spoke to him:
76: vo skórě îzemši Mẃšti moę̀, v' naročítwmъ položě́te mě́stě, ʺhaving quickly taken my relics, place (them) on a due placeʺ
77: ne mogù bo na mnẃzě źlosmrádïę ʾónago tělesè terpě́ti: ʺfor I cannot stand the stench of that body anymoreʺ
78: ʾíbw î ʾázъ čl҃vě́kъ ʾésmъ, ʺbecause I am a human tooʺ
79: î wtčestvw moè ʾést' Epivatъ, îdě́že vy nn҃ě žitelstvúete. ʺand my fatherland is Epibates, where you are living nowʺ
80: toę́žde nošti î ženà ně́kaę čéstna ʾímenem' Eѵfímïa, tóžde vidě́nïe vidě̀, in the same night, a honorable woman called Euphemia saw the same vision
81: î ôbói na ʾoútrïe vsě́mъ ljudémъ víděnnaę skazáša. and in the morning the both told to all the people about what they have seen
82: slyšavše že sı´ę bl҃gově́rnïi ljúdïe, potekẃša sъ svě́štámi kъ Prpdbnyę Paraskévïi Mẃštemъ, having heard this, believing people ran with candles to the relics of Reverend Parascheva
83: î týę sъ mnẃgim oûserdïem' îzémše, ʾjákože ně́koemu sokróvištu mnogwcě́nnomu rádovaxu sę, and having them taken with much effort, they rejoiced as (having found) a precious treasure
84: î polwžiša vъ Cérkvě st҃yx' î vsexválnyx Aps҃lъ Petrà î Pávla, v' vési Epivátě, and they placed (the relics) in the church of Holy and Most Praised Apostles Peter and Paul in the village of Epibates
îdě́že ml҃tvami Prpdbnyę Paraskévïi, mnẃgaę îscělenïę wt st҃yxъ Mẃšteĭ êę̀ bwlę́štimъ podaváxu sę, where, by the prayers of Reverend Parascheva, many healings were given to the ill by her holy relics
85: vsě̀ bw ʾí že ʾókrestъ nedúžnïi î běsnújuštïi sę, sъ vě́roju prixwdę́šte, zdrávïe pwlučáxu. all those, who were ill or possessed in around, coming with faith, were receiving healing
86: Vrémeni že ne málu mimošédšu, after some time having passed
bl҃gočestívyĭ vъ Caréxъ İwánnъ Asánъ Králь bólgarskïĭ î sérbskïĭ, prïętь vě́stь gdě̀ ležátъ čudotvórnyę st҃yę Mẃšti seę̀ Prpdbnyę Paraskévïi. honorable among the kings, John Asěn, King of Bulgaria and Serbia received the news about (the place), where the miraculous holy relics of this Reverend Parascheva are located
87: î poslávъ bl҃žénnagw Marka Mitropólita súšta velíkagw Pereę́slavlę bolgarskagw sъ mnẃgimi Ep͒py î İeréi; and having sent blessed Mark, the Metropolite of Great Preslav of Bulgaria, with many bishops and priests
črez' tě́xъ prenesè čéstnyę tyę Mẃšti vъ preslávnyĭ zemlì bólgarskïę Grad svóĭ carstvújuštïĭ Ternẃvъ, by them he translated those honorable relics to the famous city of the land of Bulgaria, his regnal (seat) of Tarnovo
88: î položì sъ čéstïju v' Cérkvě svoéĭ Cárskoĭ: and he placed (them) with honor in his royal church
îdě́že ležášti ne tlě́nnw, îstačáxu razlíčnyę cě́lby sъ vě́roju pritěkájuštim. where they, laying without decay, poured various healings to those coming with faith
89: po vrémeni že mnẃzěm, êgdà popušténïemъ Bž҃ıimъ ôdolě́ša âgarę́ne Gréčeskomu Cárstvu, after a long time, as the Hagarenes by the God's will defeated the Greek kingdom
s' nímъ že porabotíša î Cárstvw bwlgárskoe kúpnw sъ sérbskimъ, with it they subdued the kingdom of Bulgaria too, together the (kingdom of) Serbia
90: naĭ páče že vo dnì Selíma, togẁ ʾímeni vtórogo Carę̀ túrskogw; and at most (they conquered) in the days of Selim, second king of Turks of that name
91: togdà Cárъ tóĭ Selímъ, wt gráda Ternẃva rátïju vosxitívъ, then, that king Selim, having made war against the city of Tarnovo
sъ ʾínim' bl҃golě́pïem' Cerkẃvnim' î Cárskim oûkrašénïem', with other ornaments of Church and royal jewels
î sı´ę čéstnyę Mẃšti Prpdbnyę Paraskévïi, v' Carígrad wtnesè, he took also the honorable relics of Reverend Parascheva to Tsarigrad
92: î vъ svoéĭ polátě postávi. îdéže ne sokry sę mnogwcě́nnyĭ tóĭ Bíserъ, and he placed (them) in his palace, where this precious pearl did not hide
93: ʾíbw čudesỳ mnẃgimi ne tókmw Xr͒tïánъ, nw î âgarę́nъ v' poklonénïe privedè. because by many miracles it brought not only Christians, but also many Hagarenes to worship
94: símъ ʾoúbw âgarę́ne smutíša sę, however, the Hagarenes were worried by this
95: î boę́šte sę da nekakw mnwžáĭšee oûvěrénïe rasprostranít' sę, and, being afraid that (Christian) faith will expand somewhat more
páče že za- oûsérdïemъ î popečénïemъ xr͒tïánskimъ: rather then for the sake of efforts and struggles of Christians
wtdáša tyę st҃yę Mẃšti xr͒tïánwmъ Carigrádskim. they gave those holy relics to the Christians of Tsarigrad
96: ônỳ že čéstnw vъ Patrïáršeĭ Crk҃vě položíša. and these placed (them) honorably in the church of the Patriarch
97: Potómъ že ne skórw bl҃gočestívyĭ İW Vasílïĭ voevẃda Gospodárъ zemlì Moldávskïę, and afterwards - not early - honorable John Vasilii the Voivod, gospodar of the land of Moldova
vě́stь prïémъ ô st҃yx' Prpdbnyę Mẃštex' támw súštixъ: having received news about holy relics of the Reverend being there
želáše oûsérdno, da wt túdu v' êgò pravo-slávnoe Gospwdárstvïe čéstnw prenéseni búdutъ. he wished strongly to have them translated from there to his Orthodox domain
98: Gd͒ь že xvalímyĭ vъ st҃yxъ svoíxъ, xotę̀ î zdè prosláviti Prpdbnuju svojù: želánïju êgẁ spospěšestvovà, and the Lord, who is to be praised in His saints, wanting to make His Reverend famous also here, fulfilled his wish
99: î v' srdce st҃ě́ĭšagw Patrïárxa Konstantinopolskagw Kѵ́rъ Parѳénïę, sïe v'ložì, and He put this (wish) into the heart of the most holy Patriarch of Constantinople, lord Parthenius
100: ʾjáko po sově́tu vsegẁ svoégo ôsšt҃ennagw sobẃra, as after the council of his most enlightened Synod
î ʾínyxъ St҃ěĭšixъ Patrïárxwv po îzvolénïju, and by the permission of other most holy Patriarchs
čéstnyę sı´ę Mẃšti Prpdbnyę Mátere Paraskévïi, these relics of the Reverend Mother Parascheva
bl҃gočs҃tívomu tomù Gp͒darù İW Vasílïju Voevódě, na oûsérdnoe želánïe êgẁ, to that honorable gospodar John Vasilii the Voivod, according to his sincere wish

tremì preŵsšt҃ennymi Mitropolíty, İwaníkïemъ Iraklïĭskim, Parѳénïemъ Adrïanopólskim, î Ѳewfánomъ Palewnpátrwnъ, preposlálъ ʾéstъ vъ Moldávskuju zémlju, v' Prestólnyĭ Grádъ naricáemyĭ Jásě: sent (them) by three most enlightened metropolites - Ioannikios of Heracleum, Parthenius of Adrianople and Theophanes (of) Paleonpatron - to the land of Moldova, into the capital city called Jassy
101: îdě́že vъ Xrámě trı´exъ Sti҃teleĭ, sъ vsę́kwju čéstïju v' premnẃzěm vesélïi î rádosti vseę̀ Moldávskïę zemlě̀, polóženi sútь, there, they were placed in the temple of Three Apostles with all due honor and much joy and celebrations of the whole land of Moldova
