35: pos i bděnie i metanie i slъzi studъ i pekъ sičko trъpěše fasting, staying awake, bowing and tears, cold and heat - she endured everything

37: i mlba neprěstanno činěše and she prayed (ʺdid prayerʺ) perpetually

i kakъ da si ukrasi dšъ ta da sreštne xa ba sъ světilnikъ ukrasenъ and how to decorate her soul, to meet Christ the God with a decorated (prepared) lamp

da se nasiti krasota raiskaa i xubostъ i světlostъ to satisfy herself with the heavenly glory and (the) beauty and (the) light

43: i tvrъdě tъguvaše sъs srdce to si and she yearned powerfully in her heart

44: i taka provaždaše svoi životъ po onъzi pustinja za mnogo vrěme and thus she lived her life on that desert for a long time
45: A lukavii diavolъ ne prěstanuvaše da ę plaši but the Devil didn't cease to frighten her
46: i mnogo pъti se prěstruvaše kato źvěrъ strašenъ and many times (he) changed himself to a terrible beast
davno bi ja uplašilъ da ostavi pustinja to frighten her (and thus force her) to leave the desert
47: ami staa petъka imaše ba pomoštnika but St Petka had God (as a) helper
48: i ne prěstanuvaxa i slъzi ot oči te and the tears didn't stop (to flow) from her eyes
49: i sičъka xitrostъ diavolъska izčeznuvaše ot njeina ta mlba and all the devilish cunning was vain because of (ʺdisappeared fromʺ) her prayer
50: Takvazi sila běše dobila ot ba such a power she had acquired from God
51: i tъi se běše podkanila and thus she had decided to live
52: makarъ da běše žena altough she was a woman
53: ami běše isplъnjena dxa stgo but she was filled (by the) Holy Spirit

i naprasno vidě bžstvno viděnie and suddenly she saw a divine apparition
61: edinъ agglъ i se javi kato někoi mladъ momъkъ an angel appeared to her as a young boy
62: i světi kato svěštъ and (he) shined as a candle
63: i reče i and he said to her:
64: da ostavišъ pustinja ta ʺ(you should) leave the desertʺ
65: i idi si pakъ nazadъ na tvoa baštnina ʺand go back to your homelandʺ
66: Zašto tamo ti priliče da si ostavišъ tělo to ʺbecause it is good for you to leave your body thereʺ
67: a dša ta ti šte da bъde na xubavii i na sladъkii rai ʺand your soul shall be in the beautiful and immaterial Paradiseʺ
68: Kato vidě staa petъka tova viděnie i čju tia dumi as St Petka saw this apparition and heard those words
razumě če e ot ba tova viděnie she understood, that this apparition was from God
69: i pozna če šte da se prěstavi skoro and she found out that she will die soon
70: i zaraduva se and she was glad
71: i grižěše se and she worried:
72: kak si ostavě pustinja ta ʺhow can I leave the desert?ʺ
73: zašto ne može ništo drugo da očisti člku dšъ ta kato pustinja because nothing else can purify the human soul as a desert
74: I togazi staa petka kato čju onzi glas and then, as St Petka heard that voice
i da i se ne štěše even though she didn't want
a tia ostavi onazi pustinja she left that desert
75: I poide prъvěnъ na crigrad and first she went to Tsarigrad
76: i vlěze vъ čerkova xva u staa sofia and entered the church of Christ of (ʺtoʺ) St Sophia
77: i mlba neprěstanno činěše and she prayed (ʺdid prayerʺ) perpetually
78: kakъ da iskaže člkъ tolъkozi metania i pokloni how could one describe so many kneelings and bowings
79: i sički dni i nošti na bděnie běše and she was awake for all the days and nights
80: i plačěše i tъguvaše za pustinja ta and she wept and craved for the desert
81: I obide sičъki čerъkovi kato edna pčela rabotna and she visited all the churches as a diligent bee
štoto obъxodi sički cvětove prolětni which visits all the vernal flowers
82: I poide vъ čerkova prěstěi bci što se zove vlaxerna and (then) she went to (the) church of most-holy Mother of God which is called Blachernae
83: i tamo pripade na ikona prěstěi bci and there she came (ʺfellʺ?) to the icon of most-holy Mother of God
84: i slъzi ot oči tě si mnogo izlia and she poured a lot of tears from her eyes
85: i dumaše i mljaše s bci and she said and prayed to the Mother of God:
86: tebě vldčce što si na sički světъ ʺUpon yourself, o Lady (ʺwhich isʺ) of the whole worldʺ
i porodila si ga ba ʺand who gave birth to Lord Godʺ
azъ moi životъ u tebě ostavix ʺto yourself I dedicated (ʺleftʺ) my lifeʺ
87: i na tebě se naděa da me pomluvašъ ʺand in yourself I hope that you have mercy upon meʺ
88: i ne děi se gnusi ot mene što sъmъ tvoa robinja ʺdon't turn away in disgust from me, your servantʺ
89: Zašto i azъ ot mladostъ tvoemu snu poslědovax ʺbecause I followed your son and prayed since my youthʺ
90: i mlja se ʺand I pray (you)ʺ
91: i tii znaešъ bce moa ta ženъskaa rabota i moa slabostъ ʺand you know, o Virgin, my womanly nature and my weaknessʺ

93: zašto osvěnъ tebe na drugo město ne mam da se naděa ʺbecause I have no hope at another place than by yourselfʺ
94: ami tii mi bъdi nastavnica ʺbut you be my teacherʺ
da me nastavišъ na dobro i na pokaanie ʺso that you leads me to the goodness and remorseʺ
95: i tii da me upazišъ ot sičko zloi ʺ(so that) you shall protect me from all evilʺ
96: zašto koga běx vъ pustinja tebe imax pomoštnica ʺbecause I had yourself as my helper as I was in (the) desertʺ
97: i sega se vrъnax vъ mirъ ʺbut now I have returned into (the) worldʺ
98: ami pakъ i sega me očuvai i upazi ʺbut now, hear and protect me againʺ
99: i pomoštnica mi bъdi ʺand be my helperʺ
100: i pokrii me ot sičko zloi ʺand cover me from all evilʺ
101: I tova se pomli and thus she prayed
102: i plaka ot se srdce and wept from all heart
103: i izlěze and she left
104: i trъgna da ide na svoa ta si baštnina and went (ʺto goʺ) to her (ʺownʺ) homeland
105: I doide do epivati što běše njeina baštnina and came to Epibates, which was her homeland
106: i prěbŷ tamo vrěme ne malo and stayed there for quite some time
107: i nikoi ne poznavaše ja and nobody recognized her
108: I tamo postъ metanie bděnie and there (she did much) fasting, kneeling (and) staying awake

da ne ostavišъ mene što sъm robinja tvoa ʺdo not leave me, (who am) your servantʺ
deto sъmъ zaradi tebe ostavila sičъko ʺwho has left everything for youʺ
114: i k tebě priběgnax ʺand to yourself I ranʺ
115: ami gi be moi reči agglu mirno ʺbut, my Lord God, give a calm command to an angelʺ
da mi prieme dšъ ta ʺto receive my soulʺ
116: i da mi ne bъde zabranjeno da ulěza na tvoe crstvo ot mrъsnii i ne čistii běsove ʺand that I wouldn't be barred from entering your kingdom by unpure and tainted demonsʺ
117: ami me spodobi bezъ strax da stana prěd tvoi strašni prěstolъ ʺbut make me worthy to stand without fear before your awesome throneʺ
118: oti si blsvenъ gi vъ věki ʺbecause you are blessed, o Lord, in eternityʺ

125: I taka si provodi dni te svoi tuka na zemlja and thus she passed her days here on the Earth
126: a tamo naide golěmo dobro i lesnina and there she found great good and comfort
127: ami i tuka gъ bъ ne ostavi ja da e za mnogo dni sъkriena na zemlja but even here, Lord God wouldn't leave her hidden in the Earth for long
i da e bez pametъ njeino to čistoe i stoe tělo to leave her pure and holy body to remain without rememberance
128: ami pokaza čjudo divno zaradi njeini te stie mošti but he showed a miracle on her holy relics
129: Někoi postnikъ imaše tamo there was a hermit

131: i postěše se blizo pri onova město gdeito ei bilo grobъ tъ stěi petъki and he fasted near the site of the St Petka's grave
132: I sluči se ta umrě někoi gemeџia and it came to pass, a sailor died

134: i poče da isxodi ot njego smradъ zlъi and a terrible stench started to come out from him
kolъkoto vekie ne možaše tamo da pomine člkъ ot zlai mirizma so much that one couldn't pass by because of the stench
135: zaedno i onzi stlъpnik vekje ne može da trъpi onzi smradъ neither the stylite could suffer that stench
136: ami slěze ot onъzi stlъpъ so he climbed down from the pillar
137: i naide člci and he found some men
138: i rče imъ da iskopajut trapъ golěm and he commanded them to dig a big hole
da turjatъ onova tělo čtoto smrъděše to throw that stinking body (down there)
139: i onia člcii poslušaxa onogozi stlъpnika and those people obeyed the hermit
140: i poidoxa tamo and they went there
141: i zexa da kopajatъ and started to dig
142: i naidoxa tělo to stěi petki cělo i xubavo and they found the body of St Petka, healthy and beautiful
143: i mirizma xubava kolъkoto navivaše tazi mϋrizma na onъzi smradъ and how (her) beautiful scent covered the odor of that stench!
144: i onia člci běxa glupavi i ne razumni and those people were dumb and irrational
145: i ne mogoxa da se osětetъ za onova stoe tělo and they couldn't understand that (it was a) holy body
146: zašto i nikoi ne znaeše če e tamo pogrebena staa petka because nobody knew that St Petka was buried there
147: oti běše ot davna bila pogrebena because she was buried since long
148: ami se mnogo čjudixa kakъ da storętъ and they wondered a lot what should they do
149: i rekoxa si meždu sebě and they said to each other:
150: koi pakъ da kopae na drugo město ʺwho would dig elsewhereʺ
151: ami e tuka toizi grobъ dosta širokъ i glъbokъ ʺthis grave here is wide and deep enoughʺ
152: da turime i onazi mrъša da ne smrdi ʺlet's throw that corpse (here) as well, so that it doesn't stinkʺ
153: a to ako bъde tova sto tělo bъ šte go izvadi ʺand if it would be a holy body, God will take it outʺ
154: i zarinaxa onazi mrъša tamo pri onova stoe tělo and they buried that corpse there next to that holy body
155: i razidoxa se po doma si and they all went home
156: I ot těx něko člkъ georgie ime to mu xristianinъ dobrъ one of them (was) a certain Georgi, a good Christian
157: i toi kato si poide doma si i po večerě napokonъ stanъ da se pomli bu and as he also went home and dined, he stood up to pray to God
kato si činěše sěkogi mlba mnogo as he always did, doing a lot of prayer

160: i sědi na stolъ zlatъ světlikavъ and she sat on a shiny golden throne
161: i okolo njea momъci xubavi světlikavi and many beautiful, shiny boys (stood) around her

163: i pade na zemlja and he fell to the ground

165: ot xubostъ ne možaše da gleda toja světъ he couldn't watch that light for its beauty
166: I edinъ ot onia xubavi i světlikavi momъci pristъpi and one of those beautiful shiny young men stepped to him
167: i uze go za rъka and he seized his arm
168: i rče mu and he said to him:
169: stani georgie ʺstand up, Georgi!ʺ
170: i oti ste taka storile ʺand as you did soʺ
171: ta ste ostavile onova tělo vonešto pri tělo to stěi petъki ʺas you left that stinking body next to the body of St Petkaʺ
172: ami skoro da poidešъ ʺyou shall go quicklyʺ
173: da izvadišъ mošti te stěi petъki ʺand you shall retrieve the relics of St Petkaʺ
174: i da gi ostavišъ u kovčegъ zlatъ ʺand you shall put them to a golden coffinʺ
175: zašto crъ požali njeina dobrina ʺfor the King craves for her virtueʺ
176: i šte gъ sega da ja proslavi po sičъki světъ ʺand now Lord will spread her fame in the whole worldʺ

179: i položěte gi na xubavo město ʺand put them on a nice placeʺ
180: Zašto ne mogu da trъpę azъ za mnogo toizi smrad ʺbecause I can't suffer that stench anymoreʺ
181: ne boiš li se ba da ne bi pustilъ bъ ogъnъ da vŷ popali ʺdon't you fear God that he'd cast fire to burn you?ʺ
182: i az esъmъ člkъ ot maika i ot baštъ rodena ʺand I am a human (too), born from a mother and a fatherʺ
183: i moa baštnina ta e epivati štoto go zovъtъ i deto ste vie sega na njego ʺand my fatherland (is) Epibates, as you call it and where do you live nowʺ
