 | Сло́во второ́е свѧтáгѡ Проро́ка Данїи́ла. | [Title] Second Homily by the Holy Prophet Daniel |
 | То́й сты́й прро́къ Данїи́лъ ви́дѣлъ стрáшенъ сꙋ́дъ бжїй. | thus saw the Holy Prophet Daniel at the terrible Judgement of the Lord |
 | Тáка казꙋ́е: | thus he spoke: |
 | ви́дѣхъ | ʺI saw the Ancient of days, as the thrones were setʺ |
ветхаго де́нми, до́ндеже прсто́лы постáвиша сѧ, | [Dan 7:9 CS ʺzręxъ dondeže prstoli postavša+sę, i vetxïi denmi sědeʺ NIV ʺAs I looked, thrones were set in place, and the Ancient of Days took his seat.ʺ]
 | и сѣ́дѣ пре-вѣ́чный на прстолѣ огненномъ: | ʺand the Eternal One sat on the throne flaming with fireʺ |
 | и ѡ-колѡ него̀ тмáмы те́мъ архáггли и аггли слꙋжáхꙋ емꙋ̀ со страхомъ; | ʺand around him hundreds of thousands angels and archangels served him with fearʺ |
 | и потечѐ рѣкà огненна,, | ʺand a river of flame flowedʺ |
 | тáѧ рѣкà врı́е страшнѡ, | ʺthe river is boiling horriblyʺ |
 | и клоко́ти | ʺand it bloatsʺ |
 | таѧ̀ кѣ- дà завлече грѣшни те оу вѣ́чна мꙋ́-ка; да се мꙋчатъ со́съ дїáволы; | ʺthis (river) will bring the sinners to the eternal torment, to be tormented by the devilsʺ |
 | и то́й сты́й прро́къ Дани́лъ ѿ товà видѣ́нїе мнѡ́гꙋ сѐ оуплáшилъ, | when this saint Prophet Daniel saw this vision, he became scared very much |
 | за-що̀ ви́дѣлъ кáкѡ кѣ да бы́де стрá-шенъ сꙋ́дъ бжїй, | because he saw what is going to be (at) the terrible Judgement of God |
 | и мно́гꙋ ималъ стрáхъ, | and he had feared a lot |
 | и плáкалъ ѿ товà стрáш-но видѣнїе; | and he cried because of that terrible vision |
 | имáло товà вре́ме цáрь не вѣ́ренъ: | there was a faithless king in that time |
 | то́й цáрь не́що мꙋ̀ зави́дѣлъ ѿ гáрасъ на того̀ стáго прро́ка Данїи́ла, | this king had (ʺappeared to himʺ) some malice towards this saint Prophet Daniel |
 | и го фръли́лъ на арслáни: жи́въ да го̀ изе́датъ: | and he threw him to lions, so that they eat him alive |
 | ѡ ле чꙋ́до ди́вно и мно́гꙋ голе́мо! | oh, look! (what a) wondrous and very great miracle! |
 | тáко-вїи си́лнїи, и стрáшни арслáни, и ѿ трѝ днѝ гладни не го̀ изе́ле, | such terrible lions, (held) hungry for three days, and they did not eat him! |
 | амѝ мꙋ сѐ поклони́ле, | but they bowed to him |
 | и но́ги мꙋ̀ лизáле, | and they licked his legs |
 | и кро́тки мꙋ сѐ оучини́ле, кáкѡ ов-цы на овчáрь; | and they became tame as sheep to a shepherd |
 | глáдайте сегà, ко́й има вѣ́ра и чи́сто живе́е: | look now, who has faith and lives purely! |
 | то́й свѧ́-ты́й прро́къ Данїи́лъ не мáлъ ника-ко́въ грѣхъ, | this holy prophet Daniel had no sins |
 | и бы́лъ чи́стъ кáкѡ агглъ бжїй; | and he was pure as an angel of God |
 | и трѝ днѝ сѣ́дѣлъ при глáдни арслáни оу ꙗма длабо́ка за-тво́ренъ; | and he sat for three days in a deep hole with hungry lions |
 | а тı́е лю́тїи ѕвѣри ѿ стá-гѡ имáле стрáхъ ѿ негѡ̀; | but those fierce beasts were afraid of the saint |
 | защо̀ во оустà но́силъ млтви | because he carried prayers in his mouth |
 | и ималъ бга оу него́ва дꙋшà: | and he had God in his soul |
 | затовà не мо-же́ле да го̀ изе́датъ а҅рслáни те; | thus the lions could not eat him |
 | слꙋ́-шайте вы́е, що нико́и пáтъ не сѐ мо́-лите бгꙋ | you hear, who never pray to God! |
 | ни слꙋ́шате, що вѝ оу-чѝ хрсто́съ оу сто́е еѵáггелїе; | nor do you listen to what Christ teaches you in the holy Gospel |
 | амѝ хо́дите бе́зъ стрáхъ бжїй; | but rather you go without the fear of God |
 | те́шко и го́рко вáмъ кѣ дà би́де на вáше оумирáнѣ; | it will be hard and bitter for you, when you will be dying |
 | се́кїй де́нъ давáте на дїá-вола хїлїáди: вáшы грѣшни ре́чи и збо́рови | every day you give the Devil (his due) with your sinful words |
 | и си́ те вáши ре́чи грѣшни гѝ пи́ше дїáволъ оу него́ви тевте́-ри; | and all your sinful words are written down by the Devil in his notebooks |
 | вы́е сле́пъ оумъ не ви́дите тı́е оузды̀, що̀ вы̀ заꙋзди́лъ дїáволъ; | you (with a?) blind mind, you don't see those reins by which the Devil has caught you |
 | и вы̀ влечѐ оу вѣ́чна мꙋ́ка, | and (by which) he drags you to the eternal torment |
 | сегà чо-ве́цы какѡ сле́пи на се́ко ѕло̀ тръ́-чатъ, кáкѡ тѝ на сиджи́ри пси́ те, гѝ ви́катъ, да гѝ връ́затъ, | now, people run as blind to any evil, as dogs to chains, when they are called to be bound |
 | и онѝ хо́датъ, и тръ́чатъ да гѝ връ́зат оу сиджи́ри, | and they go and run to be bound to the chains |
 | тáка и дїáволъ тръ́ча и хо́ди по чове́цы, ско́рѡ да имъ връзе оумо́ тъ, | thus also the Devil runs and walks around the people to chain their minds |
да не познаѧ́тъ свои́- те грѣхови; | so that they don't know their sins
 | мно́гꙋ се рáдꙋе дїáволъ за тı́е чове́цы, ко́и не мы́слѧтъ грѣ-хо́ви те и оумирáнѣ, | the Devil rejoices much about those people, who don't think (about their) sins and death |
 | тı́е ко́и оуми́ратъ безъ покáѧнїе, те́шко и го́рко ни́мъ; | it is hard and bitter to them, who die(s?) without repenting |
 | си́ те стı́и бы́ле чи́сти кáкѡ аггли, | all the saints were pure as angels |
 | а де́нъ и но́щъ се мо́лиле бгꙋ; | they prayed for the day and night to God |
 | а сегà ле́-гнатъ, стáнатъ; кáкѡ добы́цы и кáкѡ кони; | now they lay down, stand up like cattle and horses |
 | ни сѐ прекръстꙋ́ѧтъ, | they don't cross themselves |
 | нѝ метáнїи чи́натъ; | nor do they pray |
 | спїáтъ | they sleep |
 | и дре́матъ | and dream |
 | дїáволъ имъ затвори́лъ очи; | the Devil closed their eyes |
 | не ви́-датъ пáтъ бжїй; | so that they don't see the way of God |
 | а еднѝ сѐ стори́-ле слꙋ́ги и измекѧ́ри на дїáвола; | some have become servants and slaves of the Devil |
 | не слꙋ́шатъ що гѝ оучѝ хрсто́съ, а що- гѝ оучѝ дїáволъ: | they don't hear, what the Christ teaches them |
 | хо́датъ по бáенѣ; и по мáгїи; | they go to diviners and magic |
 | ѡͯъ | oh |
 | безꙋ́мнїи и мꙋ́жи и же́ни; сѝ кꙋ́паватъ сáми вѣ́чна мꙋ́ка; | mindless men and woman buy their own eternal torment |
 | сами влáзатъ оу огинъ; | they enter the fire by themselves |
 | а не ви́датъ си́ те стı́и, ѿ що имáле стрáхъ ѿ бга; и плáкале, | they don't see all the saints, who feared God and cried |
 | а сегáш-нїи хртїáни име бжїе хꙋ́лѧтъ, | and the contemporary Christians blaspheme about the name of God |
 | и сто́е креще́нїе испогани́ле со прокле́-то бáенѣ и магı́и; | and they paganized their baptism with accursed divination and magic |
 | сами сѐ предá-ватъ на дїáвола, | they gave themselves over to the Devil by themselves |
 | ѡͯъ | oh |
 | сле́пи, и без-ꙋ́мни; какѡ кѣ дà дадетѐ джевáтъ хрстꙋ̀; | you blind and mindless ones, what answer are you going to give to Christ? |
 | вы́е стѐ плювáле на дїáвола, когà стѐ се крести́ле, | you spat at the Devil as you baptized yourself |
 | а сегà пáкъ сѐ поклáнѧтъ дїáволꙋ со бáенѣ и магı́и, | and now, they bow to the Devil again with divination and magic |
 | тı́е робо́татъ на дїáвола, | these work for the Devil |
 | и чи́натъ изме́тъ на сатанà, | and they make service to Satan |
 | когà сѐ крести́-ле, оучини́ле ни́хни дꙋ́шы невѣ́сты на хрстà; | when they were baptized, they made their (soul) a bride for the Christ |
 | а тı́е, ко́и хо́датъ по бáенѣ, онѝ оучи́ниле ни́хни дꙋ́шы невѣ́сты на дїáвола, | but these, who go to divination and magic, made their souls brides for the Devil |
 | сегà сѐ сле́пы хртїáни те; | now the Christians are blind |
 | защо̀ не гѝ оучатъ по-по́вы; | because their priests don't teach them |
 | на ни́хъ ви́ка пррокъ Ѡсı́а: | prophet Hosea calls to them: |
 | Го́ре го́ре! | ʺwoe, woeʺ |
 | скры́ша | ʺthe priests hid the way of Godʺ |
жрецы̀ пáтъ бо́-жїй; | [cf. Hos 6:9 CS ʺSkryša žercy putь gsdenьʺ, NIV ʺAs marauders lie in ambush for a victim, so do bands of priests; they murder on the road to Shechemʺ]
 | и прро́къ Исáїа ви́ка: | and prophet Isaiah calls: |
 | Се прелъ-сти́ле ѿ пїáнство пáстыри те; | ʺthe shepherds are seduced by the drinkingʺ (cf. Is 28:7) |
 | и про-ро́къ Іеремı́а ви́ка: | and prophet Jeremiah calls: |
 | Го́ре вáмъ бꙋ́-детъ пáстырїе; и же погꙋблѧ́ютъ, и расточáютъ овцы пáствы моеѧ̀; | ʺwoe to you, o shepherds, who waste and scatter the sheep of my grazing groundsʺ (Jer 23:1) |
 | зе́матъ во́лна и млеко̀; | ʺthey take the wool and fatʺ (Ez 34:3) |
 | а овцы моѝ не гѝ пáсатъ; | ʺand they don't bring my sheep to pasturesʺ |
 | еднà акѡ заги́не ѿ вáсъ, кѣ да ѧ̀ посáкамъ; | ʺif one is lost, they let it soʺ |
 | такѡ гла-го́летъ адонаı̀ гсдъ; Єлоѝ саваѡ́ѳъ, | ʺthus speaks Adonai, the Lord, Eloi Sabaothʺ |
 | и сегà има двѣ̀ врáта ѿворе́ни, | and now they have two doors open |
 | ко́и декà сáка, да влезѐ, тамѡ влезꙋе | he who wants, enters |
 | вратà се кáзꙋе вѣ́ра: | this door is called faith |
 | амѝ таквà вѣ́-ра, ко́й не ми́лꙋе ни́що ѿ ово́й вѣкъ; | but (it is) such faith, which does not love anything of this age |
 | тı́е мо́жатъ да вле́затъ оу рáй, | those ones cannot enter the God's Paradise |
 | тáка казꙋ́е, | thus he (?) speaks: |
 | ко́й ми́лꙋе не́що ѿ о-во́й вѣкъ, тı́е не мо́жатъ; да вле́-затъ оу рáй: | ʺhe, who loves something of this age, those cannot enter the God's Paradiseʺ (?) |
 | защо сѐ дꙋшмáни бгꙋ; | because they are enemies of God |
 | сѐ, що̀ иматъ чове́ци да го̀ иматъ кáкѡ чꙋ́ждо; | they are (enemies of God?) for there are men, who have Him like something alien (?) |
 | защо̀ око на дꙋшà, оумъ; | because the the eye of the soul (is) the mind |
 | а ако оумъ мы́сли сто́ка и пáри, | and if the mind thinks (only) about wares and money |
ко́й товà мы́слѧтъ, тı́е чове́-цы сѐ сле́пи | he, who thinks so, those people are blind
 | и оумъ ни́хни сле́пъ: | and their mind is blind |
 | и комꙋ̀ мꙋ хо́ди оумъ тáмѡ и вá-мѡ по по́мысли грѣ́шни, | and whom the mind goes here and there on bad thoughts |
тогáи дꙋшà е връзáна оу темни́цы стрáш-ни; | then the soul is bound in terrible dungeons
 | и пáкъ казꙋ́е: | and again, He says: |
 | женà твоѧ̀ ꙗкѡ лозà плодови́та; | ʺyour wife is like a fruitful vineyardʺ (Ps 128:3) |
 | товà е пло́дъ на дꙋшà, акѡ има мы́слы бжїи и до́-брѝ: | that is the fruit of soul, if it has divine and good thoughts |
 | защо мы́слы сѐ бжїи; | because these thoughts are God's (?) |
 | а по́-мыслы сѐ дїáволски; | and (bad) ideas are devilish |
 | ко́й има мы́-слы добрѝ, блги, то́и сѝ мы́слы за покаѧ́нїе за рáй: | he, who has good thoughts, thinks about repentance (and) Paradise |
 | а дрꙋ́го ни́що не мы́сли; | and he does not think of anything else |
 | а ко́й има по́мыслы, то́й мы́сли за обо́й вѣ́къ за сто́ка, за пáри, | and he, who has (devilish) ideas, thinks of this age, of wares (and) money |
 | тı́е ни́кой пáтъ не сѐ гото́ви за оуми́ранѣ; | these are never (ʺno way/timeʺ) ready for death |
 | тı́е сѐ дале́кꙋ подъ землѧ затворе́ни оу темни́цы стрáшни; | these are for a long way closed in the earth, in terrible dungeons |
 | да мы́сли все́кїй чове́къ кáкѡ кѣ дà оумре; | let every human thinks about how he will die |
 | тı́е сѐ мы́сли блги, | these thoughts are good |
 | тı́е мы́сли чꙋ́ватъ дꙋша ѿ грѣ́шни по́мысли; | these thoughts protect the souls from sinful ideas |
 | то́гаи има дꙋ-ша блги мы́сли кáкѡ цáрски во́йни, | then he thinks as a royal soldier |
 | и чꙋ́ватъ своѧ̀ госпожà дꙋшà: | and guards his lady the soul |
 | зато-ва тре́бꙋе се́кїй чове́къ; да е ка-раꙋ́лъ на оумъ, | for that reason, let every human be on guard for his mind |
 | да держѝ оумъ, | to hol it |
 | да не го̀ пꙋ́ща, да хо́ди по грѣ́ш-ни по́мысли, | let he never lets it go about to sinful ideas |
 | защо̀ оумъ не сто́и, | because the mind does not stand |
 | секїй часъ хо́ди; | it moves every time |
 | ама какѡ ходи; така ходи, | and it goes as it goes |
 | ако го̀ держѝ саисби́а та, | if he holds it as a landlord |
 | да мꙋ̀ дадѐ рабо́та; | (then) it gives him work |
 | товà е рабо́та на оумъ, да мы́сли добрѝ мы́сли, | the work of the mind is to have good thoughts |
 | товà е блги мы́сли да сѐ мо́ли бгꙋ; | good thoughts mean to pray to God |
 | а ко́и не сѐ мо́лѧтъ бгꙋ; амѝ мы́-слѧтъ за ово́й вѣ́къ, то́гай ни́хни не- заꙋзде́нъ оумъ хо́ди по ло́ши и грѣш-ни по́мысли; | and who does not pray to God, but he thinks about this age, then their mind goes unrestrained on bad and sinful ideas |
 | оумъ дово́ди оу чове́цы и агглы, и дїáволи; не заꙋзде́нъ оумъ дово́ди на чове́цы дїáволи; | the mind leads in both angels and devils unrestrained mind leads devils on the humans |
 | хрсто́съ реклъ: | the Christ said: |
 | идѣ́же естъ сокро́ви-ще вáше, тамѡ бꙋ́детъ и срдце вá-ше; | ʺwhere is your treasure, there will be your heart tooʺ (?) |
 | тáка казꙋ́е | thus He says: |
 | декà е чове́кꙋ оумъ, | ʺwhere is the mind of a humanʺ |
 | тáмѡ мꙋ е и дꙋшá та; | ʺthere is his soulʺ |
 | а держѝ оумъ оу себѐ, да сѐ да не́ ма грѣ́ш-ни по́мысли; | thus hold the mind close, so that it does not have sinful ideas |
 | тогáй дꙋшà бли́зꙋ при бга, | such soul is close to God |
 | а акѡ не держѝ оумъ ѿ грѣ́-шни по́мысли, то́гай дꙋшà сáма и го́ла; | and if the mind is not held away from the sinful ideas, the soul is alone and naked |
 | не́ ма ко́й, да ꙗ чꙋ́ва; | there is no one to protect it |
 | смѐ до́лжни да тръ́пиме сѐ, що нѝ до́й-де болѣстъ, илѝ сиромащı́а, | we have to suffer, because (when?) an illness or poverty comes |
 | и да не хꙋ́лѧтъ имѧ бжїе; | and we should not blame the name of God |
 | прáща бгъ на чове́цы газе́пы; | God sends toil to men |
 | защо̀ кого̀ не го̀ на-кáже бгъ, те́шко немꙋ; | because when God does not make them suffer, it is hard for them |
 | тı́е сѐ да-ле́кꙋ ѿ бга; | they are far away from God |
 | блазѐ на сиромáси и мà бо́лни; | blessed are the poor and the ill! |
 | а мно́гꙋ стрáшно на богá-ти и на здрáви; | and woe to the rich and healthy! |
 | онѝ дале́че ѿ-стоѧ́тъ ѿ оутѣше́нїѧ бжїѧ; | they stand far away from seeking refuge at God |
 | пе́рво- вре́ме бы́ле чꙋ́дни хртїáни; | in the beginning, the Christians were wonderful |
 | онѝ ни гледáле, нѝ мы́слиле за ово́й вѣ́къ, | they did not look at, nor think of this age |
 | амѝ де́нъ и но́щъ мы́слиле за оно́й вѣ́къ; | they thought about the other age for the day and night |
 | затовà ѡстáвиле слáдки ра-бо́ти ѿ ово́й вѣ́къ, | for that reason they left the sweetness of this world |
 | и сѐ оучини́ле пꙋсты́нниками: | and they became hermits |
 | они мы́слиле: | they thought: |
 | акѡ бы́ се ѡжени́ле, не бы̀ моглѐ да сѝ чꙋ́-ватъ дꙋ́шы те ѿ грѣ́хови; | if they would marry, they would not be able to protect their souls from sins |
 | затовà сѐ, що̀ имале, ѡстáвиле | thus they left all what they had |
 | и ѿи́шле по го́ри, по плани́ни, го́ли и бо́-си, глáдни и же́дни; | and they went to forests and mountains, naked and barefoot and hungry and thirsty |
 | и живе́ле прѝ стрáшни арслáни, и при лю́ти ѕмı́и, и при ди́вїи ѕвѣровы; | and they got to terrible lions and fierce snakes and wild beasts |
 | а бы́ле еднѝ ѿ ни́хъ цáрскїи че́да; | and there were royal children among them |
 | а зарадѝ своѝ дꙋ́шы да не гѝ загꙋ́батъ, ходи́ле сѧкїй де́нъ кáкѡ оумре́ни; | and, for the sake of their souls, they walked like dead for every day |
 | и нико́й не мо́же да искáже ни́хни захме́ти, по 40 и 50 и 60 годи́ни; | and no one can tell (all of) their works (they did) for 40 and 50 and 60 years |
 | се́кїй де́нъ бы́ле глáдни и же́дни, и го́ли кáкѡ ѿ мáйка рожде́ни, | every day they were hungry and thirsty and naked as they were born from their mother |
 | и ѿ голе́ми захме́ти кáкѡ оумре́ни бы́ле, | and because of hard works they were like dead |
 | а бы́-ле чи́сти кáкѡ аггли, | but they were pure as angels |
 | со́съ таквѝ захме́ти сѐ иде оу рáй; | with such works one gets to the divine Paradise |
 | а дрꙋ́гїи стı́и мꙋ́ченицы що гѝ мꙋ́чиле за вѣ́-ра хрсто́ва, | and other saints (were) martyrs, who were tortured for the Christian faith |
 | три́ ста и 60 годи́ни се́-кїй де́нъ мꙋчи́ле мнѡ́гꙋ тꙋ́рли мꙋ́-ки; | three hundred and sixty years, every day they tortured by many various tortures |
 | еднѝ жи́вы ги дрáле; | some were flayed alive |
 | а дрꙋ́-гїи ѿ высо́ки кáменѣ пꙋщáле ги до́-лꙋ, да сѐ оубı́ѧтъ; | while others were thrown down from high rocks to die |
 | а дрꙋгїи оу фꙋ́р-ни гѝ пеклѐ жи́вы; | and others were baked alive in furnaces |
 | и оу казáни гѝ вари́ле; | and they were boiled in cauldrons |
 | и на чáрковы гѝ връте́ле; | and they were hanged on churches |
 | и на арслáни гѝ жи́вы ги давáле, да- ги ꙗдатъ, | and they were given alive to lions as a food |
 | и на ѕмı́и гѝ фрълáле, да гѝ оугры́затъ, | and they were thrown to snakes to be bitten by them |
 | и оу смръ́дени тем-ницы гѝ затворáле, | and they were closed in stinky dungeons |
 | и мнѡ́гꙋ стı́и мꙋ́ченицы оу смръдени темни́-цы сѐ престáвиле; | and many holy martyrs died in stinky dungeons |
 | Слꙋ́шайте, и да ви́дите, ко́лкꙋ голе́ми те́шки мꙋ́-ки претръ́пеле стı́и мꙋ́ченицы; | hear and may you see, how great and hard tortures the holy martyrs suffered! |
 | тı́е сѐ то́кмѡ со архáггели, и аггли, | they are now just with archangels and angels |
 | тáка гѝ почи́та стáѧ црковъ; хе-рꙋвı́мы и серафı́ми, | thus they are respected by the holy Church, by the Cherubim and Seraphim |
 | защо̀ оу ни́хъ и оу ни́хни дꙋ́шы сѣдѣ́лъ хрсто́съ, | because Christ sat next to their souls |
 | а онѝ поми́нале изъ игле́ни оушы; | and they remembered (with?) pointed ears |
 | а сегà ни мꙋ́чатъ, ни бı́ѧтъ. ни глáдни, ни же́дни, | but now (they are) not tortured, nor beaten, nor hungry nor thirsty |
 | а сáми хо́датъ по стремни́ни и про́пасти дїáволски; | but they go by themselves to the lands and abysses of the Devil |
 | хрсто́съ работи́лъ ·гı· го́-дини древодѣ́лъ, да гѝ наꙋ́чи нáсъ, и ны̀е да рабо́тиме, да не ꙗдеме чꙋж-ды́й по́тъ; | Christ worked for 13 years as a carpenter to teach us too to work, (and) not to eat another one's toil |
 | пáкъ когà станáлъ ·л· годи́ни собрáлъ стı́и апслы, | then, as he was 30 years (old), He collected the holy apostles |
 | ходáлъ трѝ годи́ни, | He walked for three years |
 | мнѡ́гꙋ чꙋдà оучи-ни́лъ, | He did many miracles |
 | оумре́ни ѡживи́лъ; | He revived dead |
 | ѿ пе́тъ хлѣ́бови пе́тъ хїлїáди мꙋ́жи насы́-тилъ, | from 5 breads He fed 5000 men |
 | а и же́ни и дѣ́ца ꙗле ѿ тı́е хлѣбови; | and even women and children ate from those breads |
 | и собрáле стı́и апслы 21 ко́ша тро́хи; | and the holy apostles collected 21 baskets of leftovers |
 | по́сле Євре́и ѿ зáвистъ мнѡ́гꙋ го̀ мꙋ́чиле; | then the Jews, because of jealousy, tortured him much |
 | ·ѯз· хїлїáди пá-ти го̀ оудри́ле по товà крáсно и пре-крáсно лицѐ; | 67 thousand times they struck Him on that beautiful face |
 | го̀ би́ле, | they were beating Him |
 | сѐ то тѣ́ло него́во бы́ло еднà рáна; | all of His body was one single wound |
 | по тı́е лю́ты мꙋ́ки го̀ распѧ́ле на крстъ, | after those fierce tortures they put Him on a cross |
 | и мꙋ̀ за-би́ле оу рꙋ́ки и оу но́ги голе́ми кли́н-цы, | and they stuck big nails to His hands and legs |
 | а то́й агнецъ бжїй си́ те тı́е мꙋ́-ки претръпѣ́лъ зарадѝ нáсъ, | and this Lamb of God lived through these tortures for our sake |
да ны̀ ѿкꙋпѝ ѿ рꙋ́ки дїáволски, | so that He may buy us out from the hands of the Devil
 | и когà бы́лъ хрсто́съ на крстъ, трѝ сахáти слнце сѐ потемни́ло: | and when the Christ was on the cross, the sun became dark for three hours |
 | и трѝ сахáти землѧ̀ сѐ тре́сла стрáшнѡ, | and the ground was shaking terribly for three hours |
 | и ѡжи́-веле си́ те оумре́ни тамѡ оу сты́й грáдъ Іерꙋсали́мъ, | and all the dead were revived there, in the holy city of Jerusalem |
 | и мнѡ́гꙋ ко́и бы́-ле стı́и, гѝ ви́дѣле; какѡ тı́е ѡжи-ве́ле; | and those, who were saints, saw, how those became alive |
 | тáка кѣ да ѡживе́атъ тáмѡ на оно́й вѣкъ, | thus they will arise there, in the next age |
 | и да кáжеме, | may we say |
 | сегà ви́катъ чове́цы, | now the people say: |
 | нı́ е те́шко ѿ вер-гı́а | ʺwe suffer from the taxesʺ |
 | да познáеме прáво и чи́сто, | let us look at it the rightly and purely! |
 | да не хꙋ́лиме имѧ бжїе; | let us not blaspheme the name of God! |
 | коѐ е по те́ш-ко далѝ вергı́а, или лю́ти мꙋ́ки, | which is worse, the tax or fierce torment? |
 | мнѡ́гꙋ е по те́шко мꙋ́ки ѿ вергı́а; | torment is much worse than the taxes |
 | то́гай не сá(ка?)ле пáри, | in those times, they did not take the money |
 | амѝ онѝ давáле пáри, ко́и ѡстáви вѣ́ра бжїѧ, | they were giving the money to those, who abandoned the faith in God |
 | амà стı́и и можи, и же́ни и дѣ́ца не ѡстáвиле вѣ́ра, | but the saints, men and women and children, did not abandon the faith |
 | ами ходи́ле на мꙋ́-ки кáкѡ на радостъ; | but rather, they went to torments as if to joy |
 | а сега така да да мꙋ́чатъ; | but let them (try to) torture (us) now! |
 | далѝ бы сѐ нáшелъ ѿ де́сетъ хїлїáди еде́нъ, да претръ́пи таквѝ лю́ти и те́шки мꙋ́ки: | would there be anyone among ten thousand, who would suffer through such fierce and hard torments? |
 | амà тı́е стı́и оу те́жки мꙋ́ки пѣ́але пѣ́-сни бжїи; | but those saints sang songs of God from those hard tortures |
 | амà тı́е хрстїáнни имале и но́силе оу ни́хни оусты̀ и ни́хно срдце имѧ хрсто́во; | but those Christians had and carried in their mouths and hearts the name of Christ |
 | непрестаннѡ чи-тáле: | they read ceaselessly: |
 | Гсди, Іисе хрсте сне бжїй, по-ми́лꙋй мѧ грѣ́шнаго; | ʺo Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, may you have mercy on sinful myselfʺ |
 | онѝ секїй чáсъ хрстà моли́ле, | they prayed to Christ in every hour |
 | и хрта выкáле, да имъ помо́же и да гѝ оукрѣпѝ; | and they called the Christ to help them and to make them strong |
 | хрстà викáле | they called the Christ |
 | и хрстà моли́ле; | and they prayed to Christ for that |
 | затовà и хрсто́съ оу ни́хни дꙋ́ши и сѣ́дѣлъ, | and the Christ sat at their souls |
 | и жи́валъ хрсто́съ | and the Christ lived |
 | и имъ дáлъ си́ла, и крѣ́постъ: | and He gave them power and endurance |
 | онѝ, акѡ не бы̀ сѐ мо-ли́ле на хрстà се́кїй чáсъ, не бы̀ мо-же́ле, да претр́патъ то́лкꙋ лю́ти мꙋ́ки; | if they did not pray to Christ everytime, they would not be able to suffer so fierce torments |
 | затовà не вѣ́рни те гѝ фрълá-ле оу огинъ, да изго́ратъ, | for that reason the unbelievers threw them to fire to burn |
 | а о-гинъ не може́лъ да гѝ изго́ри: | but the fire could not burn them |
 | и ѡ-тро́въ не може́лъ да гѝ ѿро́ви; | and the poison could not poison them |
 | и арслáни не може́ле да гѝ изе́датъ, | and the lions could not eat them |
 | и лю́ти ѕмı́и не може́ле да гѝ оугры́-затъ | and the fierce snakes could not bite them |
 | Ѡ ле вѣ́ра, ко́лкꙋ е си́лна; и моле́нѣ бга и чи́сто живе́нѣ; | oh, how strong is the faith, and the prayer to God, and pure life |
 | а-мà тı́е бжїи хрстїáни нико́й пáтъ не сѐ ѡпи́ле, | but those Christians of God never got drunk |
и не бы́ле пїѧ́ни; | or were drunk (?)
 | и ни-ко́и не пе́алъ пе́сни дїáволски, | and none (of them) sang devilish songs |
 | ни свире́ле; | and they did not play (instruments) |
 | ни игрáле; | and they did not dance |
 | ни си́ те мꙋ́жи и же́ни кни́га знáле, | but all the men and women knew the literature (Scripture?) |
 | ве́черъ, и оутрѡ читáле, | they read in the evening and in the morning |
 | бга моли́ле | they prayed to God |
 | а сегà не мо́лѧтъ бга; | and now they do not pray to God |
 | ами пе́атъ пе́сни дїáволꙋ | but (instead) they sing songs to the Devil |
 | и сѐ рáдꙋе дїáволъ со ни́хни дшы; | and the Devil rejoices about their souls |
 | и не ле́жале со же́ни се́кїй де́нъ; | and (the early Christians) did not lay with their wives every day |
 | чи́стѡ живе́ле кáкѡ аггли; | they lived purely as angels |
 | а сегà ѿ грѣ́ш-но живе́енѣ и ѿ прокле́то пїѧ́нство оумъ загꙋби́ле, | and now, because of sinful life and accursed drinking, they even lose their minds |
 | сѐ оучини́ле кáкѡ безꙋ́мнїи доби́цы; | and they became like mindless cattle |
 | ѿ 50 и ѿ 60 и ѿ 70 годи́ни сѐ же́натъ, по трѝ же́ни; | they marry in (their) 50s and even 60s, with (up to) three women |
 | трѝ же́ни не дáва зако́нъ; | (and) the Law does not allow (ʺgiveʺ) three wives |
 | имъ вле́-голъ блꙋ́дный дїáволъ, | the adulterous Devil laid in (the idea) |
 | и гѝ вле́че оу мꙋ́ки вѣ́чнїи; | and he drags them into the eternal torment |
 | а онѝ кáкѡ сле́пи; ви́датъ вери́ги и оузды̀ дїáволскїи; | they, as blind ones, do not see the chains and reins of the Devil |
 | онѝ сле́пи и не вѣ́рни не сѐ мо́лѧтъ на хрстà; | they, blind and faithless ones, do not pray to Christ |
 | амѝ хо́датъ по прокле́то бáенѣ, и магı́и: | but they go with accursed drinking and magic |
 | ѡͯъ сле́пи дꙋ́шы, и не вѣ́рни чове́цы, защо̀ сѐ писꙋ́ете на дїáвола; | o you blind souls and faithless men, why do you enlist yourself to the Devil? |
 | дїáволъ гѝ мꙋ́чи; | the Devil tortures them |
 | а онѝ пáкъ ви́катъ дїáвола; | but they call the Devil again |
 | ѡхъ голе́ма слепотà; | o how big is (your) blindness! |
 | Слꙋ́шайте, | hear me: |
 | хрсто́съ, когà хо́-дилъ по землѧ̀, испáдилъ ѿ еде́нъ чо-ве́къ мно́гꙋ дїáволи; | when the Christ walked the Earth, He banished from one man many devils |
 | а тı́е дїáволи сѐ мо́лиле на хрстà, да имъ да-дѐ изи́нъ, да вле́затъ оу сви́-ни; | then these devils prayed Christ to allow them to enter some swines |
 | а безъ изи́нъ не мо́желе да вле́-затъ оу сви́ни те; | and without His permission they could not enter the swines |
 | когà не мо́же дїá-волъ да вле́зе безъ изи́нъ оу сви́ни; то́ и хи́чъ не мо́же да вле́зе оу кá-ща, и оу домъ бжїй; | if a devil cannot enter a swine without the Lord's permit, the less can it enter a house of God |
 | нı́е си́чки хрстїáни сме до́мовы, и кáщы бжїи; | we all Christians are the houses of God |
 | защо̀ сме сѐ причасти́ле тѣ́ло и кро́въ хрсто́ва, | because we have taken the body and blood of Christ |
 | не мо́же дїáволъ, да влезѐ при хрстà: | the Devil cannot enter next to Christ |
 | оу вѣ́рнїи хрстїá-ни жи́вее хрсто́съ, | Christ lives in faithful Christians |
 | а ко́и чове́цы не́- матъ чи́ста вѣ́ра, оу ни́хъ живеѐ дїáволъ, | and the men, who do not have pure faith, in them the Devil lives |
 | тı́е сѐ конакъ дїáвол-скїй; | they are Devil's mansions |
 | защо̀ хо́ди дїáволъ по чове́цы; | because the Devil goes around the men |
 | и ры́ка, кáкѡ арслáнъ; | and he growls like a lion |
 | сá-ка, да ни изе́де жи́вы; | he wants to eat us alive |
 | то́й не ꙗ-де ме́со, | he does not eat meat |
 | ни пı́е кръ́въ; | nor does he drink blood |
 | амѝ хо́ди по си́ те чове́цы; | but he goes around all people |
 | имъ крáде ѿ срдце то вѣ́ра, | and he steals the faith from their hearts |
 | и имъ крáде оумо тъ; | and he steals the mind |
 | и дá-ва на чове́цы невѣ́рїе: | and he gives to the faithlessness to the people |
 | имъ дáва стрáхъ, да гѝ има ѿ дїáвола; | and he makes them fear the Devil |
 | а ко́и иматъ стрáхъ ѿ дїáвола; тı́е бга не́ матъ, и не сѐ бжїи; | but who fear the Devil, those don't have a God, nor are His |
 | тı́е сѐ връзáни и заꙋзде́ни со оузды̀ дїá-волски, | they are bound and reined (?) up with devilish reins (?) |
 | со́съ товà ло́ви и фáща дїá-волъ чове́цы; | thus the Devil hunts and catches people |
 | затовà казꙋ́е сты́й Іѡáннъ бгосло́въ: | that is why John the Evangelist teaches: (?) |
 | стрáхъ мꙋ́кꙋ и-матъ: | ʺfear has a tortureʺ (?) |
 | такà казꙋ́е, | thus he says: |
 | ко́и иматъ стрáхъ ѿ дїáвола, тı́е чове́цы бга не́ матъ; | ʺthose people have no God, who fear the Devilʺ (?) |
 | тı́е сѐ безбо́жни | they are without God |
 | си́ те хрстїá-ни, и мꙋ́жи и же́ни; имаме, да сѐ бо́риме сосъ дїáвола, | all Christians, men and women alike, we have to struggle with the Devil |
 | не сѐ бори сосъ дїáвола; тı́е чове́цы не мо́жатъ; да- сѐ кꙋртали́сатъ ѿ рꙋ́ки дїáволски; | those people (who) do not struggle with the Devil cannot save themselves from the Devil's hands |
 | онѝ, ко́и иматъ стрáхъ ѿ дїáвола, онѝ не сѐ бжїи, | those who fear the Devil, they are not of God |
 | когà ѡщѐ жи́вы; не- сѐ бжїи; | as long as they live, they are not God's |
 | тı́е и кога оумратъ не сѐ бжїи; | and when they die, they are not God's |
 | защо не мáле стрáхъ ѿ бга, | because they did not have fear of God |
 | амѝ сѐ боѧ́ле ѿ дїáвола; | but they feared the Devil |
 | и такà пи́-ше, брáтїе | and thus he (John?) wrote, o brothers |
 | да сѐ проти́вите дїáволꙋ, | may you resist the Devil |
 | и то́й кѣ дà побѣ́гне ѿ вáсъ, | and he will ran from you |
 | товà е проти́венѣ да не вѝ стрáхъ ѿ дїá-вола | this is the remedy (?), so that you do not fear the Devil |
 | и да не чи́ните, що̀ е грѣ́шно, | and may you do not do sinful things |
 | и да не слꙋ́шате снáга на грѣ́хови, | and may you do not hear the body about sins |
 | товà е проти́венѣ дїáволꙋ | that is the resistance to the Devil |
 | и да сѐ покáете, | and may you repent |
 | защо̀ иде оуми́ранѣ, | because the death is coming |
 | и не знáеме, когà кѣ дà нѝ грáбне; и кѣ дà нѝ посѣче страшна сѣки́ра бжїѧ, лю́та сме́ртъ, | and we do not know, when the terrible axe of God, the fierce death, will catch us and slash us |
 | и кѣ дà ны̀ ѿ-несѐ тáмѡ на стрáшенъ сꙋдїà Іисъ хрсто́съ, | and it will carry us there, to the terrible judgement of Jesus Christ |
 | то́й тáмѡ не сѐ измо́лꙋе; | He is not merciful there |
 | а овдѐ, докáтъ смѐ жи́вы; е мно́-гꙋ ми́лостивъ, | only as long as we are alive He is merciful |
 | и прощáва се́комꙋ си́чки те грѣ́хови; | and He forgives all the sins to everyone |
 | и тáка ре́клъ хрсто́съ: | thus the Christ said: |
 | си́ те хрстїáни и мꙋ́жи, и же́ни да иматъ на оумъ | ʺmay all the Christians, men and women alike, have a chanceʺ (?) |
 | и товà да мы́слѧтъ | and may they think |
 | овїе четири речи; | (see) these four things |
 | ко́и мы́сли тı́е ре́чи, мо́же да би́де сы́нъ бжїй: | he, who thinks about these four things, may become a son of God |
 | и мо́же да побѣ́гне ѿ си́ те грѣ́хѡви, | and he will be able to run away from all the sins |
 | и мо́же да оумре оу чи́-сто покаѧ́нїе, | and he may die in pure repentance |
 | се́кїй товà да мы́сли; | may everyone thinks (about) this: |
 | ·а· сме́ртъ, | first, the death |
 | ·в· сꙋ́дъ. | second, the Judgement |
 | ·г· црство нбсное, | third, the Kingdom of Heaven |
 | ·д· мꙋ́ка вѣ́чнаѧ. | fourth, the eternal torment |
 | Сохранѝ гсди всѣ́хъ правослáвныхъ ѿ шꙋ́ыѧ стра-ны̀, | Lord, save all those of the rightful faith from the left (evil?) side |
 | и нáсъ поли́лꙋй, | and give us mercy |
 | ами́нъ | amen |
