 | Slóvo vtoróe svętágw Proróka Danïíla. | [Title] Second Homily by the Holy Prophet Daniel |
 | Tóĭ stýĭ prrókъ Danïílъ vídělъ strášenъ súdъ bžïĭ. | thus saw the Holy Prophet Daniel at the terrible Judgement of the Lord |
 | Táka kazúe: | thus he spoke: |
 | víděxъ | ʺI saw the Ancient of days, as the thrones were setʺ |
vetxago dénmi, dóndeže prstóly postáviša sę, | [Dan 7:9 CS ʺzręxъ dondeže prstoli postavša+sę, i vetxïi denmi sědeʺ NIV ʺAs I looked, thrones were set in place, and the Ancient of Days took his seat.ʺ]
 | i sě´dě pre-vě´čnyĭ na prstolě ognennomъ: | ʺand the Eternal One sat on the throne flaming with fireʺ |
 | i w-kolw negò tmámy témъ arxággli i aggli služáxu emù so straxomъ; | ʺand around him hundreds of thousands angels and archangels served him with fearʺ |
 | i potečè rěkà ognenna,, | ʺand a river of flame flowedʺ |
 | táę rěkà vrı´e strašnw, | ʺthe river is boiling horriblyʺ |
 | i klokóti | ʺand it bloatsʺ |
 | taę` kě- dà zavleče grěšni te ou vě´čna mú-ka; da se mučatъ sósъ dïávoly; | ʺthis (river) will bring the sinners to the eternal torment, to be tormented by the devilsʺ |
 | i tóĭ stýĭ prrókъ Danílъ wt tovà vidě´nïe mnw´gu sè ouplášilъ, | when this saint Prophet Daniel saw this vision, he became scared very much |
 | za-štò vídělъ kákw kě da býde strá-šenъ súdъ bžïĭ, | because he saw what is going to be (at) the terrible Judgement of God |
 | i mnógu imalъ stráxъ, | and he had feared a lot |
 | i plákalъ wt tovà stráš-no viděnïe; | and he cried because of that terrible vision |
 | imálo tovà vréme cárь ne vě´renъ: | there was a faithless king in that time |
 | tóĭ cárь néšto mù zavídělъ wt gárasъ na togò stágo prróka Danïíla, | this king had (ʺappeared to himʺ) some malice towards this saint Prophet Daniel |
 | i go frъlílъ na arsláni: žívъ da gò izédatъ: | and he threw him to lions, so that they eat him alive |
 | w le čúdo dívno i mnógu golémo! | oh, look! (what a) wondrous and very great miracle! |
 | táko-vïi sílnïi, i strášni arsláni, i wt trì dnì gladni ne gò izéle, | such terrible lions, (held) hungry for three days, and they did not eat him! |
 | amì mu sè pokloníle, | but they bowed to him |
 | i nógi mù lizále, | and they licked his legs |
 | i krótki mu sè oučiníle, kákw ov-cy na ovčárь; | and they became tame as sheep to a shepherd |
 | gládaĭte segà, kóĭ ima vě´ra i čísto živée: | look now, who has faith and lives purely! |
 | tóĭ svę´-týĭ prrókъ Danïílъ ne málъ nika-kóvъ grěxъ, | this holy prophet Daniel had no sins |
 | i býlъ čístъ kákw agglъ bžïĭ; | and he was pure as an angel of God |
 | i trì dnì sě´dělъ pri gládni arsláni ou jama dlabóka za-tvórenъ; | and he sat for three days in a deep hole with hungry lions |
 | a tı´e ljútïi źvěri wt stá-gw imále stráxъ wt negw`; | but those fierce beasts were afraid of the saint |
 | zaštò vo oustà nósilъ mltvi | because he carried prayers in his mouth |
 | i imalъ bga ou negóva dušà: | and he had God in his soul |
 | zatovà ne mo-žéle da gò izédatъ a҅rsláni te; | thus the lions could not eat him |
 | slúš-aĭte výe, što nikói pátъ ne sè mó-lite bgu | you hear, who never pray to God! |
 | ni slúšate, što vì ou-čì xrstósъ ou stóe eѵággelïe; | nor do you listen to what Christ teaches you in the holy Gospel |
 | amì xódite bézъ stráxъ bžïĭ; | but rather you go without the fear of God |
 | téško i górko vámъ kě dà bíde na váše oumiráně; | it will be hard and bitter for you, when you will be dying |
 | sékïĭ dénъ daváte na dïá-vola xïlïádi: vášy grěšni réči i zbórovi | every day you give the Devil (his due) with your sinful words |
 | i sí te váši réči grěšni gì píše dïávolъ ou negóvi tevté-ri; | and all your sinful words are written down by the Devil in his notebooks |
 | výe slépъ oumъ ne vídite tı´e ouzdỳ, štò vỳ zauzdílъ dïávolъ; | you (with a?) blind mind, you don't see those reins by which the Devil has caught you |
 | i vỳ vlečè ou vě´čna múka, | and (by which) he drags you to the eternal torment |
 | segà čo-vécy kakw slépi na séko źlò trъ´-čatъ, kákw tì na sidžíri psí te, gì víkatъ, da gì vrъ´zatъ, | now, people run as blind to any evil, as dogs to chains, when they are called to be bound |
 | i onì xódatъ, i trъ´čatъ da gì vrъ´zat ou sidžíri, | and they go and run to be bound to the chains |
 | táka i dïávolъ trъ´ča i xódi po čovécy, skórw da imъ vrъze oumó tъ, | thus also the Devil runs and walks around the people to chain their minds |
da ne poznaę´tъ svoí- te grěxovi; | so that they don't know their sins
 | mnógu se rádue dïávolъ za tı´e čovécy, kói ne mýslętъ grě-xóvi te i oumiráně, | the Devil rejoices much about those people, who don't think (about their) sins and death |
 | tı´e kói oumíratъ bezъ pokáęnïe, téško i górko nímъ; | it is hard and bitter to them, who die(s?) without repenting |
 | sí te stı´i býle čísti kákw aggli, | all the saints were pure as angels |
 | a dénъ i nóštъ se mólile bgu; | they prayed for the day and night to God |
 | a segà lé-gnatъ, stánatъ; kákw dobýcy i kákw koni; | now they lay down, stand up like cattle and horses |
 | ni sè prekrъstúętъ, | they don't cross themselves |
 | nì metánïi čínatъ; | nor do they pray |
 | spïátъ | they sleep |
 | i drématъ | and dream |
 | dïávolъ imъ zatvorílъ oči; | the Devil closed their eyes |
 | ne ví-datъ pátъ bžïĭ; | so that they don't see the way of God |
 | a ednì sè storí-le slúgi i izmekę´ri na dïávola; | some have become servants and slaves of the Devil |
 | ne slúšatъ što gì oučì xrstósъ, a što- gì oučì dïávolъ: | they don't hear, what the Christ teaches them |
 | xódatъ po báeně; i po mágïi; | they go to diviners and magic |
 | wxъ | oh |
 | bezúmnïi i múži i žéni; sì kúpavatъ sámi vě´čna múka; | mindless men and woman buy their own eternal torment |
 | sami vlázatъ ou oginъ; | they enter the fire by themselves |
 | a ne vídatъ sí te stı´i, wt što imále stráxъ wt bga; i plákale, | they don't see all the saints, who feared God and cried |
 | a segáš-nïi xrtïáni ime bžïe xúlętъ, | and the contemporary Christians blaspheme about the name of God |
 | i stóe krešténïe ispoganíle so proklé-to báeně i magı´i; | and they paganized their baptism with accursed divination and magic |
 | sami sè predá-vatъ na dïávola, | they gave themselves over to the Devil by themselves |
 | wxъ | oh |
 | slépi, i bez-úmni; kakw kě dà dadetè dževátъ xrstù; | you blind and mindless ones, what answer are you going to give to Christ? |
 | výe stè pljuvále na dïávola, kogà stè se krestíle, | you spat at the Devil as you baptized yourself |
 | a segà pákъ sè poklánętъ dïávolu so báeně i magı´i, | and now, they bow to the Devil again with divination and magic |
 | tı´e robótatъ na dïávola, | these work for the Devil |
 | i čínatъ izmétъ na satanà, | and they make service to Satan |
 | kogà sè krestí-le, oučiníle níxni dúšy nevě´sty na xrstà; | when they were baptized, they made their (soul) a bride for the Christ |
 | a tı´e, kói xódatъ po báeně, onì oučínile níxni dúšy nevě´sty na dïávola, | but these, who go to divination and magic, made their souls brides for the Devil |
 | segà sè slépy xrtïáni te; | now the Christians are blind |
 | zaštò ne gì oučatъ po-póvy; | because their priests don't teach them |
 | na níxъ víka prrokъ Wsı´a: | prophet Hosea calls to them: |
 | Góre góre! | ʺwoe, woeʺ |
 | skrýša | ʺthe priests hid the way of Godʺ |
žrecỳ pátъ bó-žïĭ; | [cf. Hos 6:9 CS ʺSkryša žercy putь gsdenьʺ, NIV ʺAs marauders lie in ambush for a victim, so do bands of priests; they murder on the road to Shechemʺ]
 | i prrókъ Isáïa víka: | and prophet Isaiah calls: |
 | Se prelъ-stíle wt pïánstvo pástyri te; | ʺthe shepherds are seduced by the drinkingʺ (cf. Is 28:7) |
 | i pro-rókъ İeremı´a víka: | and prophet Jeremiah calls: |
 | Góre vámъ bú-detъ pástyrïe; i že pogublę´jutъ, i rastočájutъ ovcy pástvy moeę`; | ʺwoe to you, o shepherds, who waste and scatter the sheep of my grazing groundsʺ (Jer 23:1) |
 | zématъ vólna i mlekò; | ʺthey take the wool and fatʺ (Ez 34:3) |
 | a ovcy moì ne gì pásatъ; | ʺand they don't bring my sheep to pasturesʺ |
 | ednà akw zagíne wt vásъ, kě da ę` posákamъ; | ʺif one is lost, they let it soʺ |
 | takw gla-góletъ adonaı` gsdъ; Eloì savaw´ѳъ, | ʺthus speaks Adonai, the Lord, Eloi Sabaothʺ |
 | i segà ima dvě` vráta wtvoréni, | and now they have two doors open |
 | kói dekà sáka, da vlezè, tamw vlezue | he who wants, enters |
 | vratà se kázue vě´ra: | this door is called faith |
 | amì takvà vě´-ra, kóĭ ne mílue níšto wt ovóĭ věkъ; | but (it is) such faith, which does not love anything of this age |
 | tı´e móžatъ da vlézatъ ou ráĭ, | those ones cannot enter the God's Paradise |
 | táka kazúe, | thus he (?) speaks: |
 | kóĭ mílue néšto wt o-vóĭ věkъ, tı´e ne móžatъ; da vlé-zatъ ou ráĭ: | ʺhe, who loves something of this age, those cannot enter the God's Paradiseʺ (?) |
 | zašto sè dušmáni bgu; | because they are enemies of God |
 | sè, štò imatъ čovéci da gò imatъ kákw čúždo; | they are (enemies of God?) for there are men, who have Him like something alien (?) |
 | zaštò oko na dušà, oumъ; | because the the eye of the soul (is) the mind |
 | a ako oumъ mýsli stóka i pári, | and if the mind thinks (only) about wares and money |
kóĭ tovà mýslętъ, tı´e čové-cy sè slépi | he, who thinks so, those people are blind
 | i oumъ níxni slépъ: | and their mind is blind |
 | i komù mu xódi oumъ támw i vá-mw po pómysli grě´šni, | and whom the mind goes here and there on bad thoughts |
togái dušà e vrъzána ou temnícy stráš-ni; | then the soul is bound in terrible dungeons
 | i pákъ kazúe: | and again, He says: |
 | ženà tvoę` jakw lozà plodovíta; | ʺyour wife is like a fruitful vineyardʺ (Ps 128:3) |
 | tovà e plódъ na dušà, akw ima mýsly bžïi i dó-brì: | that is the fruit of soul, if it has divine and good thoughts |
 | zašto mýsly sè bžïi; | because these thoughts are God's (?) |
 | a pó-mysly sè dïávolski; | and (bad) ideas are devilish |
 | kóĭ ima mý-sly dobrì, blgi, tói sì mýsly za pokaę´nïe za ráĭ: | he, who has good thoughts, thinks about repentance (and) Paradise |
 | a drúgo níšto ne mýsli; | and he does not think of anything else |
 | a kóĭ ima pómysly, tóĭ mýsli za obóĭ vě´kъ za stóka, za pári, | and he, who has (devilish) ideas, thinks of this age, of wares (and) money |
 | tı´e níkoĭ pátъ ne sè gotóvi za oumíraně; | these are never (ʺno way/timeʺ) ready for death |
 | tı´e sè daléku podъ zemlę zatvoréni ou temnícy strášni; | these are for a long way closed in the earth, in terrible dungeons |
 | da mýsli vsékïĭ čovékъ kákw kě dà oumre; | let every human thinks about how he will die |
 | tı´e sè mýsli blgi, | these thoughts are good |
 | tı´e mýsli čúvatъ duša wt grě´šni pómysli; | these thoughts protect the souls from sinful ideas |
 | tógai ima du-ša blgi mýsli kákw cárski vóĭni, | then he thinks as a royal soldier |
 | i čúvatъ svoę` gospožà dušà: | and guards his lady the soul |
 | zato-va trébue sékïĭ čovékъ; da e ka-raúlъ na oumъ, | for that reason, let every human be on guard for his mind |
 | da deržì oumъ, | to hol it |
 | da ne gò púšta, da xódi po grě´š-ni pómysli, | let he never lets it go about to sinful ideas |
 | zaštò oumъ ne stói, | because the mind does not stand |
 | sekïĭ časъ xódi; | it moves every time |
 | ama kakw xodi; taka xodi, | and it goes as it goes |
 | ako gò deržì saisbía ta, | if he holds it as a landlord |
 | da mù dadè rabóta; | (then) it gives him work |
 | tovà e rabóta na oumъ, da mýsli dobrì mýsli, | the work of the mind is to have good thoughts |
 | tovà e blgi mýsli da sè móli bgu; | good thoughts mean to pray to God |
 | a kói ne sè mólętъ bgu; amì mý-slętъ za ovóĭ vě´kъ, tógaĭ níxni ne- zauzdénъ oumъ xódi po lóši i grěš-ni pómysli; | and who does not pray to God, but he thinks about this age, then their mind goes unrestrained on bad and sinful ideas |
 | oumъ dovódi ou čovécy i aggly, i dïávoli; ne zauzdénъ oumъ dovódi na čovécy dïávoli; | the mind leads in both angels and devils unrestrained mind leads devils on the humans |
 | xrstósъ reklъ: | the Christ said: |
 | idě´že estъ sokróvi-šte váše, tamw búdetъ i srdce vá-še; | ʺwhere is your treasure, there will be your heart tooʺ (?) |
 | táka kazúe | thus He says: |
 | dekà e čovéku oumъ, | ʺwhere is the mind of a humanʺ |
 | támw mu e i dušá ta; | ʺthere is his soulʺ |
 | a deržì oumъ ou sebè, da sè da né ma grě´š-ni pómysli; | thus hold the mind close, so that it does not have sinful ideas |
 | togáĭ dušà blízu pri bga, | such soul is close to God |
 | a akw ne deržì oumъ wt grě´-šni pómysli, tógaĭ dušà sáma i góla; | and if the mind is not held away from the sinful ideas, the soul is alone and naked |
 | né ma kóĭ, da ja čúva; | there is no one to protect it |
 | smè dólžni da trъ´pime sè, što nì dóĭ-de bolěstъ, ilì siromaštı´a, | we have to suffer, because (when?) an illness or poverty comes |
 | i da ne xúlętъ imę bžïe; | and we should not blame the name of God |
 | prášta bgъ na čovécy gazépy; | God sends toil to men |
 | zaštò kogò ne gò na-káže bgъ, téško nemu; | because when God does not make them suffer, it is hard for them |
 | tı´e sè da-léku wt bga; | they are far away from God |
 | blazè na siromási i mà bólni; | blessed are the poor and the ill! |
 | a mnógu strášno na bogá-ti i na zdrávi; | and woe to the rich and healthy! |
 | onì daléče wt-stoę´tъ wt outěšénïę bžïę; | they stand far away from seeking refuge at God |
 | pérvo- vréme býle čúdni xrtïáni; | in the beginning, the Christians were wonderful |
 | onì ni gledále, nì mýslile za ovóĭ vě´kъ, | they did not look at, nor think of this age |
 | amì dénъ i nóštъ mýslile za onóĭ vě´kъ; | they thought about the other age for the day and night |
 | zatovà wstávile sládki ra-bóti wt ovóĭ vě´kъ, | for that reason they left the sweetness of this world |
 | i sè oučiníle pustýnnikami: | and they became hermits |
 | oni mýslile: | they thought: |
 | akw bý se wženíle, ne bỳ moglè da sì čú-vatъ dúšy te wt grě´xovi; | if they would marry, they would not be able to protect their souls from sins |
 | zatovà sè, štò imale, wstávile | thus they left all what they had |
 | i wtíšle po góri, po planíni, góli i bó-si, gládni i žédni; | and they went to forests and mountains, naked and barefoot and hungry and thirsty |
 | i živéle prì strášni arsláni, i pri ljúti źmı´i, i pri dívïi źvěrovy; | and they got to terrible lions and fierce snakes and wild beasts |
 | a býle ednì wt níxъ cárskïi čéda; | and there were royal children among them |
 | a zaradì svoì dúšy da ne gì zagúbatъ, xodíle sękïĭ dénъ kákw oumréni; | and, for the sake of their souls, they walked like dead for every day |
 | i nikóĭ ne móže da iskáže níxni zaxméti, po 40 i 50 i 60 godíni; | and no one can tell (all of) their works (they did) for 40 and 50 and 60 years |
 | sékïĭ dénъ býle gládni i žédni, i góli kákw wt máĭka roždéni, | every day they were hungry and thirsty and naked as they were born from their mother |
 | i wt golémi zaxméti kákw oumréni býle, | and because of hard works they were like dead |
 | a bý-le čísti kákw aggli, | but they were pure as angels |
 | sósъ takvì zaxméti sè ide ou ráĭ; | with such works one gets to the divine Paradise |
 | a drúgïi stı´i múčenicy što gì múčile za vě´-ra xrstóva, | and other saints (were) martyrs, who were tortured for the Christian faith |
 | trí sta i 60 godíni sé-kïĭ dénъ mučíle mnw´gu túrli mú-ki; | three hundred and sixty years, every day they tortured by many various tortures |
 | ednì žívy gi drále; | some were flayed alive |
 | a drú-gïi wt vysóki kámeně puštále gi dó-lu, da sè oubı´ętъ; | while others were thrown down from high rocks to die |
 | a drugïi ou fúr-ni gì peklè žívy; | and others were baked alive in furnaces |
 | i ou kazáni gì varíle; | and they were boiled in cauldrons |
 | i na čárkovy gì vrъtéle; | and they were hanged on churches |
 | i na arsláni gì žívy gi davále, da- gi jadatъ, | and they were given alive to lions as a food |
 | i na źmı´i gì frъlále, da gì ougrýzatъ, | and they were thrown to snakes to be bitten by them |
 | i ou smrъ´deni tem-nicy gì zatvorále, | and they were closed in stinky dungeons |
 | i mnw´gu stı´i múčenicy ou smrъdeni temní-cy sè prestávile; | and many holy martyrs died in stinky dungeons |
 | Slúšaĭte, i da vídite, kólku golémi téški mú-ki pretrъ´pele stı´i múčenicy; | hear and may you see, how great and hard tortures the holy martyrs suffered! |
 | tı´e sè tókmw so arxággeli, i aggli, | they are now just with archangels and angels |
 | táka gì počíta stáę crkovъ; xe-ruvı´my i serafı´mi, | thus they are respected by the holy Church, by the Cherubim and Seraphim |
 | zaštò ou níxъ i ou níxni dúšy sědě´lъ xrstósъ, | because Christ sat next to their souls |
 | a onì pomínale izъ igléni oušy; | and they remembered (with?) pointed ears |
 | a segà ni múčatъ, ni bı´ętъ. ni gládni, ni žédni, | but now (they are) not tortured, nor beaten, nor hungry nor thirsty |
 | a sámi xódatъ po stremníni i própasti dïávolski; | but they go by themselves to the lands and abysses of the Devil |
 | xrstósъ rabotílъ *gı* gó-dini drevodě´lъ, da gì naúči násъ, i nỳe da rabótime, da ne jademe čuž-dýĭ pótъ; | Christ worked for 13 years as a carpenter to teach us too to work, (and) not to eat another one's toil |
 | pákъ kogà stanálъ *l* godíni sobrálъ stı´i apsly, | then, as he was 30 years (old), He collected the holy apostles |
 | xodálъ trì godíni, | He walked for three years |
 | mnw´gu čudà ouči-nílъ, | He did many miracles |
 | oumréni wživílъ; | He revived dead |
 | wt pétъ xlě´bovi pétъ xïlïádi múži nasý-tilъ, | from 5 breads He fed 5000 men |
 | a i žéni i dě´ca jale wt tı´e xlěbovi; | and even women and children ate from those breads |
 | i sobrále stı´i apsly 21 kóša tróxi; | and the holy apostles collected 21 baskets of leftovers |
 | pósle Evréi wt závistъ mnw´gu gò múčile; | then the Jews, because of jealousy, tortured him much |
 | *ѯz* xïlïádi pá-ti gò oudríle po tovà krásno i pre-krásno licè; | 67 thousand times they struck Him on that beautiful face |
 | gò bíle, | they were beating Him |
 | sè to tě´lo negóvo býlo ednà rána; | all of His body was one single wound |
 | po tı´e ljúty múki gò raspę´le na krstъ, | after those fierce tortures they put Him on a cross |
 | i mù za-bíle ou rúki i ou nógi golémi klín-cy, | and they stuck big nails to His hands and legs |
 | a tóĭ agnecъ bžïĭ sí te tı´e mú-ki pretrъpě´lъ zaradì násъ, | and this Lamb of God lived through these tortures for our sake |
da nỳ wtkupì wt rúki dïávolski, | so that He may buy us out from the hands of the Devil
 | i kogà býlъ xrstósъ na krstъ, trì saxáti slnce sè potemnílo: | and when the Christ was on the cross, the sun became dark for three hours |
 | i trì saxáti zemlę` sè trésla strášnw, | and the ground was shaking terribly for three hours |
 | i wží-vele sí te oumréni tamw ou stýĭ grádъ İerusalímъ, | and all the dead were revived there, in the holy city of Jerusalem |
 | i mnw´gu kói bý-le stı´i, gì víděle; kakw tı´e wži-véle; | and those, who were saints, saw, how those became alive |
 | táka kě da wživéatъ támw na onóĭ věkъ, | thus they will arise there, in the next age |
 | i da kážeme, | may we say |
 | segà víkatъ čovécy, | now the people say: |
 | nı´ e téško wt ver-gı´a | ʺwe suffer from the taxesʺ |
 | da poznáeme právo i čísto, | let us look at it the rightly and purely! |
 | da ne xúlime imę bžïe; | let us not blaspheme the name of God! |
 | koè e po téš-ko dalì vergı´a, ili ljúti múki, | which is worse, the tax or fierce torment? |
 | mnw´gu e po téško múki wt vergı´a; | torment is much worse than the taxes |
 | tógaĭ ne sá(ka?)le pári, | in those times, they did not take the money |
 | amì onì davále pári, kói wstávi vě´ra bžïę, | they were giving the money to those, who abandoned the faith in God |
 | amà stı´i i moži, i žéni i dě´ca ne wstávile vě´ra, | but the saints, men and women and children, did not abandon the faith |
 | ami xodíle na mú-ki kákw na radostъ; | but rather, they went to torments as if to joy |
 | a sega taka da da múčatъ; | but let them (try to) torture (us) now! |
 | dalì by sè nášelъ wt désetъ xïlïádi edénъ, da pretrъ´pi takvì ljúti i téški múki: | would there be anyone among ten thousand, who would suffer through such fierce and hard torments? |
 | amà tı´e stı´i ou téžki múki pě´ale pě´-sni bžïi; | but those saints sang songs of God from those hard tortures |
 | amà tı´e xrstïánni imale i nósile ou níxni oustỳ i níxno srdce imę xrstóvo; | but those Christians had and carried in their mouths and hearts the name of Christ |
 | neprestannw či-tále: | they read ceaselessly: |
 | Gsdi, İise xrste sne bžïĭ, po-míluĭ mę grě´šnago; | ʺo Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, may you have mercy on sinful myselfʺ |
 | onì sekïĭ čásъ xrstà molíle, | they prayed to Christ in every hour |
 | i xrta vykále, da imъ pomóže i da gì oukrěpì; | and they called the Christ to help them and to make them strong |
 | xrstà vikále | they called the Christ |
 | i xrstà molíle; | and they prayed to Christ for that |
 | zatovà i xrstósъ ou níxni dúši i sě´dělъ, | and the Christ sat at their souls |
 | i žívalъ xrstósъ | and the Christ lived |
 | i imъ dálъ síla, i krě´postъ: | and He gave them power and endurance |
 | onì, akw ne bỳ sè mo-líle na xrstà sékïĭ čásъ, ne bỳ mo-žéle, da pretr´patъ tólku ljúti múki; | if they did not pray to Christ everytime, they would not be able to suffer so fierce torments |
 | zatovà ne vě´rni te gì frъlá-le ou oginъ, da izgóratъ, | for that reason the unbelievers threw them to fire to burn |
 | a o-ginъ ne možélъ da gì izgóri: | but the fire could not burn them |
 | i w-tróvъ ne možélъ da gì wtróvi; | and the poison could not poison them |
 | i arsláni ne možéle da gì izédatъ, | and the lions could not eat them |
 | i ljúti źmı´i ne možéle da gì ougrý-zatъ | and the fierce snakes could not bite them |
 | W le vě´ra, kólku e sílna; i moléně bga i čísto živéně; | oh, how strong is the faith, and the prayer to God, and pure life |
 | a-mà tı´e bžïi xrstïáni nikóĭ pátъ ne sè wpíle, | but those Christians of God never got drunk |
i ne býle pïę´ni; | or were drunk (?)
 | i ni-kói ne péalъ pésni dïávolski, | and none (of them) sang devilish songs |
 | ni sviréle; | and they did not play (instruments) |
 | ni igrále; | and they did not dance |
 | ni sí te múži i žéni kníga znále, | but all the men and women knew the literature (Scripture?) |
 | véčerъ, i outrw čitále, | they read in the evening and in the morning |
 | bga molíle | they prayed to God |
 | a segà ne mólętъ bga; | and now they do not pray to God |
 | ami péatъ pésni dïávolu | but (instead) they sing songs to the Devil |
 | i sè rádue dïávolъ so níxni dšy; | and the Devil rejoices about their souls |
 | i ne léžale so žéni sékïĭ dénъ; | and (the early Christians) did not lay with their wives every day |
 | čístw živéle kákw aggli; | they lived purely as angels |
 | a segà wt grě´š-no živéeně i wt prokléto pïę´nstvo oumъ zagubíle, | and now, because of sinful life and accursed drinking, they even lose their minds |
 | sè oučiníle kákw bezúmnïi dobícy; | and they became like mindless cattle |
 | wt 50 i wt 60 i wt 70 godíni sè žénatъ, po trì žéni; | they marry in (their) 50s and even 60s, with (up to) three women |
 | trì žéni ne dáva zakónъ; | (and) the Law does not allow (ʺgiveʺ) three wives |
 | imъ vlé-golъ blúdnyĭ dïávolъ, | the adulterous Devil laid in (the idea) |
 | i gì vléče ou múki vě´čnïi; | and he drags them into the eternal torment |
 | a onì kákw slépi; vídatъ verígi i ouzdỳ dïávolskïi; | they, as blind ones, do not see the chains and reins of the Devil |
 | onì slépi i ne vě´rni ne sè mólętъ na xrstà; | they, blind and faithless ones, do not pray to Christ |
 | amì xódatъ po prokléto báeně, i magı´i: | but they go with accursed drinking and magic |
 | wxъ slépi dúšy, i ne vě´rni čovécy, zaštò sè pisúete na dïávola; | o you blind souls and faithless men, why do you enlist yourself to the Devil? |
 | dïávolъ gì múči; | the Devil tortures them |
 | a onì pákъ víkatъ dïávola; | but they call the Devil again |
 | wxъ goléma slepotà; | o how big is (your) blindness! |
 | Slúšaĭte, | hear me: |
 | xrstósъ, kogà xó-dilъ po zemlę`, ispádilъ wt edénъ čo-vékъ mnógu dïávoli; | when the Christ walked the Earth, He banished from one man many devils |
 | a tı´e dïávoli sè mólile na xrstà, da imъ da-dè izínъ, da vlézatъ ou sví-ni; | then these devils prayed Christ to allow them to enter some swines |
 | a bezъ izínъ ne móžele da vlé-zatъ ou svíni te; | and without His permission they could not enter the swines |
 | kogà ne móže dïá-volъ da vléze bezъ izínъ ou svíni; tó i xíčъ ne móže da vléze ou ká-šta, i ou domъ bžïĭ; | if a devil cannot enter a swine without the Lord's permit, the less can it enter a house of God |
 | nı´e síčki xrstïáni sme dómovy, i kášty bžïi; | we all Christians are the houses of God |
 | zaštò sme sè pričastíle tě´lo i króvъ xrstóva, | because we have taken the body and blood of Christ |
 | ne móže dïávolъ, da vlezè pri xrstà: | the Devil cannot enter next to Christ |
 | ou vě´rnïi xrstïá-ni žívee xrstósъ, | Christ lives in faithful Christians |
 | a kói čovécy né- matъ čísta vě´ra, ou níxъ živeè dïávolъ, | and the men, who do not have pure faith, in them the Devil lives |
 | tı´e sè konakъ dïávol-skïĭ; | they are Devil's mansions |
 | zaštò xódi dïávolъ po čovécy; | because the Devil goes around the men |
 | i rýka, kákw arslánъ; | and he growls like a lion |
 | sá-ka, da ni izéde žívy; | he wants to eat us alive |
 | tóĭ ne ja-de méso, | he does not eat meat |
 | ni pı´e krъ´vъ; | nor does he drink blood |
 | amì xódi po sí te čovécy; | but he goes around all people |
 | imъ kráde wt srdce to vě´ra, | and he steals the faith from their hearts |
 | i imъ kráde oumo tъ; | and he steals the mind |
 | i dá-va na čovécy nevě´rïe: | and he gives to the faithlessness to the people |
 | imъ dáva stráxъ, da gì ima wt dïávola; | and he makes them fear the Devil |
 | a kói imatъ stráxъ wt dïávola; tı´e bga né matъ, i ne sè bžïi; | but who fear the Devil, those don't have a God, nor are His |
 | tı´e sè vrъzáni i zauzdéni so ouzdỳ dïá-volski, | they are bound and reined (?) up with devilish reins (?) |
 | sósъ tovà lóvi i fášta dïá-volъ čovécy; | thus the Devil hunts and catches people |
 | zatovà kazúe stýĭ İwánnъ bgoslóvъ: | that is why John the Evangelist teaches: (?) |
 | stráxъ múku i-matъ: | ʺfear has a tortureʺ (?) |
 | takà kazúe, | thus he says: |
 | kói imatъ stráxъ wt dïávola, tı´e čovécy bga né matъ; | ʺthose people have no God, who fear the Devilʺ (?) |
 | tı´e sè bezbóžni | they are without God |
 | sí te xrstïá-ni, i múži i žéni; imame, da sè bórime sosъ dïávola, | all Christians, men and women alike, we have to struggle with the Devil |
 | ne sè bori sosъ dïávola; tı´e čovécy ne móžatъ; da- sè kurtalísatъ wt rúki dïávolski; | those people (who) do not struggle with the Devil cannot save themselves from the Devil's hands |
 | onì, kói imatъ stráxъ wt dïávola, onì ne sè bžïi, | those who fear the Devil, they are not of God |
 | kogà wštè žívy; ne- sè bžïi; | as long as they live, they are not God's |
 | tı´e i koga oumratъ ne sè bžïi; | and when they die, they are not God's |
 | zašto ne mále stráxъ wt bga, | because they did not have fear of God |
 | amì sè boę´le wt dïávola; | but they feared the Devil |
 | i takà pí-še, brátïe | and thus he (John?) wrote, o brothers |
 | da sè protívite dïávolu, | may you resist the Devil |
 | i tóĭ kě dà pobě´gne wt vásъ, | and he will ran from you |
 | tovà e protíveně da ne vì stráxъ wt dïá-vola | this is the remedy (?), so that you do not fear the Devil |
 | i da ne čínite, štò e grě´šno, | and may you do not do sinful things |
 | i da ne slúšate snága na grě´xovi, | and may you do not hear the body about sins |
 | tovà e protíveně dïávolu | that is the resistance to the Devil |
 | i da sè pokáete, | and may you repent |
 | zaštò ide oumíraně, | because the death is coming |
 | i ne znáeme, kogà kě dà nì grábne; i kě dà nì posěče strašna sěkíra bžïę, ljúta smértъ, | and we do not know, when the terrible axe of God, the fierce death, will catch us and slash us |
 | i kě dà nỳ wt-nesè támw na strášenъ sudïà İisъ xrstósъ, | and it will carry us there, to the terrible judgement of Jesus Christ |
 | tóĭ támw ne sè izmólue; | He is not merciful there |
 | a ovdè, dokátъ smè žívy; e mnó-gu mílostivъ, | only as long as we are alive He is merciful |
 | i proštáva sékomu síčki te grě´xovi; | and He forgives all the sins to everyone |
 | i táka réklъ xrstósъ: | thus the Christ said: |
 | sí te xrstïáni i múži, i žéni da imatъ na oumъ | ʺmay all the Christians, men and women alike, have a chanceʺ (?) |
 | i tovà da mýslętъ | and may they think |
 | ovïe četiri reči; | (see) these four things |
 | kói mýsli tı´e réči, móže da bíde sýnъ bžïĭ: | he, who thinks about these four things, may become a son of God |
 | i móže da pobě´gne wt sí te grě´xwvi, | and he will be able to run away from all the sins |
 | i móže da oumre ou čí-sto pokaę´nïe, | and he may die in pure repentance |
 | sékïĭ tovà da mýsli; | may everyone thinks (about) this: |
 | *a* smértъ, | first, the death |
 | *v* súdъ. | second, the Judgement |
 | *g* crstvo nbsnoe, | third, the Kingdom of Heaven |
 | *d* múka vě´čnaę. | fourth, the eternal torment |
 | Soxranì gsdi vsě´xъ pravoslávnyxъ wt šúyę stra-nỳ, | Lord, save all those of the rightful faith from the left (evil?) side |
 | i násъ políluĭ, | and give us mercy |
 | amínъ | amen |
