3: Слнце кол͛кото има свѣ́ть и свѣ́ти as the world has Sun to shine
4: тол͛кози и на прподбна пет͛ка пáметь що е просвѣти́ла по си́чкїи свѣ́ть so much (shines) the remembrance of our Reverend Petka, which has enlightened the whole world
5: неи́но чю́до и неи́нь пос кои́ е́зикь мо́же искáза which tongue could retell all of her miracles and her fasting?
що ѐ тїꙗʺ сто́рїла добродѣ́тель на зе́млꙗ what goodness she did on the Earth
на епивáт͛ско мѣ́сто, in the land of the town of Epibates
и на тракїиско, and in the Thracian (land)
и на трь́новь and in Tarnovo
и на ми́сїа. and in Moesia
и на дал͛мати and in Dalmatia
и не тькмо̂ по тїа мѣ́ста. and not merely in those lands
ами и по си́чки свѣ́ть but all over the world?
6: де́то нáшь оумь не мо́же да пости́гне. our mind cannot reach there
или е́зикь нáшь да искáже сичко́ то неи́но чю́до и добро̂ и пос и сльзѝ. or our language cannot tell of all her miracles and goodness and fasting and tears
7: ами тькмо̂ ко́лкото нáшь ꙋмь пости́гна, but only as much as our mind could comprehend
и написах áзь еѷти́мїе патрїáрхь трьно́вскїи що̂ знáꙗхь. and so I, Euthymius, Patriarch of Tъrnovo, wrote what I knew
8: ами и вїе блсвены хрстїане. послꙋ́шаите. but also you, blessed Christians, do hear
9: Тáзи стаа и прпдбнаа пе́тка бѣ́ше ѿ мѣ́сто епѷвáти. that Saint and Reverend Petka was from the land of Epibates
10: ѿць неи́нь и маика и бѣ́ха до́брыи и блгочьстивїи. her father and her mother were good and pious
11: и ходѣ́ха по бжїи заповѣ́дь. and they lived (ʺwalkedʺ) according to Divine Commandment(s)
12: млстинꙗ чи́нѣха (they) performed deeds of mercy
13: и дрꙋ́гїи добри́ны бѣ́ха ꙋ тѣх. and (also) other good deeds were (done) by them
14: и роди́ха тазѝ чи́ста и хва голꙋбїца и двца. and they gave birth to this pure, Christ's dove and maiden
15: и роди́ха и дрꙋ́го мꙋ́жьско, име то́ мꙋ е́в͛тѷмїе, and they gave birth also to another male (child), his name (was) Euthymius
що̀ биʺ на мáдїть е́пскпь who finally became the bishop of Madit (Matidia?)
16: И наꙋ́чиха гы на страх бжїи, и на зáконь до́брѣ and (the parents) tought them to fear God and His law (ʺthe fear of God and the lawʺ) well
17: и прѣстáвиха се. and they died (ʺpresented themselvesʺ, i.e. to God)
18: и о́ста ста пе́тка, със͛ брáта си еѷти́мїа де́то би е́пскпь на мади́ть, and St Petka remained with her brother Euthymius, who became the bishop of Madit
19: и то́и мно́го чю́до покáза тáмо. and he did many miracles there
20: защо̀ бѣ́ше просвѣ́тиль със͛ по́сть. и мно́го добри́ны. because he had shone with his fasting and many good deeds as well (?)
21: затовà са и постиха него́ви мо́щи, for that reason his relics were sanctified
22: и до дне́ска чю́дно исцѣле́нїе чинѣ́ть. and they cause a lot of miraculous healing until today
23: И стаа пе́тка ѿ кáто погре́бе роди́тели сво́и. ѿреди́ гы добрѣ̀ and St Petka, since she buried her parents, she gave them their due well
24: тогáзи започѐ пос и метáнїе и бдѣнїе. then she began with fasting, and meditation, and staying awake
25: и поревна и́ се кáто áпсльскы зако́нь and it came to her mind (ʺit wanted to herʺ) as an apostolic law
26: и на зе́млꙗ без͛ постелꙗ легнꙋвáше. and she laid herself on the ground without a bed
27: и ѿ тꙋ́ка пакь и́ са испльны срдце то на ми́сль бжствна and then her heart was filled by a divine thought
да и́де вь пꙋ́стинꙗ to go into the desert
28: и побѣ́гна ѿ тáмо and she ran from there
29: и ѿиде на пꙋ́стинꙗ. and went to the desert
30: и тáмо прѣби́ваше аггльскы чи́нь. and an angelic host lived there
31: и подрáжꙗ и като̂ ıлїа или като̂ иѡ́ань крстль and (it?) followed her example as (if she were) Elijah or (ʺasʺ) John the Baptist
пос бдѣ́нїе и метáнїе и сльзѝ (with) fasting, staying awake, meditation and tears
32: стꙋ́дь и пе́кь си́чко тръпѣ́ше cold and heat - she endured everything
33: вькꙋсю́ваше трѣ́ва мѣ́сто ꙗстїе, и she ate grass instead of food
то̀ по мал͛ко на вчерь. and (even) that (only) a little in the evening
34: и млба непрѣстáнно чи́нѣше. and she prayed (ʺdid prayerʺ) perpetually
35: и нѝчто̂ да имáше ми́сль за ми́рь, and she wouldn't have a thought about the world (?)
илѝ за добрà ѡде́жда. да сѐ ѡбле́че nor about good clothes to wear
илѝ за до́мь. или за сто́ка, или за иманїе. nor about a house and goods and wealth
36: амѝ тькмо̂ ꙫ́чи те и бѣ́ха сль́зы напль́не́ны и млба на ба. but only her eyes were filled by tears and prayers to God
37: и си́чка ми́сль бѣ́ше и наде́жда на га ба. and all of her thoughts were the hope of the Lord God
38: и помислю́ваше за вто́ро пришь́ствїе хво. за бжїи сꙋ́дь. and she thought about the Second Coming, about the Divine Judgment
и кáкь да сѝ ꙋкрасѝ дша та. да срѣ́щ͛не ха ба сь с͛вѣти́лникь ꙋкрасень. and how to decorate her soul, to meet Christ the God with a decorated (prepared) lamp
и кáкво добро̀ да сто́ри and what good deed should she do
да чю́е тогáзи. глас крот͛кь ѿ га ба to hear that meek voice of the Lord God
и кáкъ да сѝ испль́ны свѣти́лныкь сьс͛ масло. and how to fill the lamp with oil
да ꙋлѣ́зе сьс͛ мꙋ́дри те двци вь рáи to enter the Paradise with the wise maidens
да сѐ наси́ти красо́та раиска, и хꙋбо́сть и свѣтло́сть, to satisfy herself with the heavenly glory and (the) beauty and (the) light
и пѣ́сны аггл͛скы. and (the) angelic songs
39: тькмо за товá и бѣ́ше ми́сль. her thoughts were (directed) only for that
40: и тврь́дѣ тáгꙋваше сь с͛рдце́ то си̂. кáкь да полꙋ́чи оновà добро̂. and she yearned powerfully in her heart how to receive that boon
41: И такà проваждáше сво́и живо́ть по ѡ́нази пꙋ́стинꙗ. за мно́го врѣ́ме. and thus she lived her life on that desert for a long time
42: а лꙋкáвїи дїáволь не прѣстáнꙋваше да ю̀ плáши. but the evil Devil didn't cease to frighten her
43: и мно́го пъ́ти се прѣтвáраше като̂ ѕвѣ́рь стрáшнь, and many times (he) changed himself to a terrible beast
дáвно бї ю ꙋплáшиль. да ѡстáви пꙋ́стинꙗ. to frighten her (and thus force her) to leave the desert
44: ами стаа пе́тка имáше ба помощни́ка. but St Petka had God (as a) helper
45: и не прѣстанꙋвахá и сль́зи ѿ очи те. and the tears didn't stop (to flow) from her eyes
46: и си́ч͛ка хитрос дїáвольска исчезнꙋ́ваше ѿ неи́на та мо́л͛ба. and all the devilish cunning was vain because of (ʺdisappeared fromʺ) her prayer
47: Таквáзи си́ла бѣ́ше доби́ла ѿ ба. such a power she had acquired from God
48: и тáи се бѣ́ше под͛кани́ла and thus she had decided to live
49: макáрь да бѣ́ше же́нâ. altough she was a woman
50: ами бѣ́ше испль́нена дха стго. but she was filled (by the) Holy Spirit
51: и бѣ́гаше ѿ не́ꙗ си́ла дїавол͛ска and the devilish force ran away from her
52: и исче́знꙋваше като̂ ди́мь. and disappeared as a smoke.
53: двдь цáрь за тáквизи же́ны пррокꙋваше. King David prophesized about such women
54: вьждѣлее́ть црь добро́тѣ твоей. ʺLet the king be enthralled by your beautyʺ (Ps 45:11 NIV)
55: такà и стаа пе́тка с голѣ́мь пос прѣбыʺ мно́го годи́ны вь пꙋ́стинїи and thus lived St Petka for many years in the desert greatly fasting
56: и вь е́дна но́щь and in one night
като́ си чинѣ́ше млба и метáнїе. as she was doing her prayers and meditation
и рꙋцѣ́ те си̂ вди́гаше наго́рѣ. и плáчеше. and she raised her hands high and wept
и напрáсно видѣ̀ бжствно видѣ́нїе. and suddenly she saw a divine apparition
57: е́динь аггль и се ꙗви кáто е́динь млáдь мо́м͛кь an angel appeared to her as a young boy
58: и свѣ́ти като̂ свѣ́щ and (he) shined as a candle
59: и рче еи́ and he said to her:
60: да остáвишь пꙋстинꙗ́ та. ʺ(you should) leave the desertʺ
61: и иди си пáкь назáдь на тво́е ѿчь́ство. ʺand go back to your homelandʺ
62: защо̂ тáмо ти подбáе да си̂ остáвишь тѣ́ло то ʺbecause it is good for you to leave your body thereʺ
63: а дша та ти́ ще да бáде на крáскы и не вѣщестьвнїи рáи. ʺand your soul shall be in the beautiful and immaterial Paradiseʺ
64: Като̂ ви́дѣ стаа пе́тка товâ видѣ́нїе. и чюʺ тїà дꙋ́ми as St Petka saw this apparition and heard those words
разꙋ́мѣ че́ їе ѿ ба товâ видѣ́ние. she understood, that this apparition was from God
65: и по́зна че́ ще да сѐ прѣстáви ско́ро. and she found out that she will die soon
66: и зарадꙋваш се and she was glad
67: и грижáше се and she worried:
68: как͛ си остáви пꙋстинꙗ́ та. ʺhow can I leave the desert?ʺ
69: защо̂ не мо́же ни́що дрꙋ́го да очи́сти члкꙋ дша та като̂ пꙋ́стинꙗ. because nothing else can purify the human soul as a desert
70: И тогáзи стаа пе́тка. кáто чюʺ ѡн͛зи глас. and then, as St Petka heard that voice
и да и́ се́ не щѣ́ше. even though she didn't want
а тїꙗʺ ѡстáви ѡнáзи пꙋстїнꙗ. she left that desert
71: И пои́де прьвѣ́нь на цригрáдь, and first she went to Tsarigrad
72: и ꙋлѣ́зе ꙋ црква хва. and entered the church of Christ
73: и млба непрѣстáно чи́нѣше and she prayed (ʺdid prayerʺ) perpetually
74: кáкь да искáже члкь тол͛кози метанїе и по́клоны. и сль́зы how could one describe so many kneelings and meditation and tears
75: и си́чьки дни и но́щи на бдѣ́нїе бѣ́ше. and she was awake for all the days and nights
76: и плачѣ́ше и тьгꙋ́ваше за пꙋ́стинꙗ та. and she wept and craved for the desert
77: и ѡби́де сички цркви. като̂ е́дна пче́ла рабо́тнаа and she visited all the churches as a diligent bee
що̂ ѡбхо́ди си́ч͛ки цвѣ́тове пролѣ́тнїи. which visits all the vernal flowers
78: и пои́де ꙋ црква прѣчстѣи бци. что̂ се зо́ве влахе́рна. and (then) she went to (the) church of most-holy Mother of God which is called Blachernae
79: и тáмо припáде на ико́на прчстѣи бци and there she came (ʺfellʺ?) to the icon of most-holy Mother of God
80: и сль́зи ѿ очи те си мно́го излїӑ. and she poured a lot of tears from her eyes
81: и дꙋмáше и молꙗ́ше се бци. and she said and prayed to the Mother of God:
82: Те́бе влдчце що́ си на си́чки свѣ́ть. ʺUpon yourself, o Lady (ʺwhich isʺ) of the whole worldʺ
и породи́лá еси га ба. ʺand who gave birth to Lord Godʺ
азь мо́и живо́ть ꙋ те́бѣ ѡстáвїхь. ʺto yourself I dedicated (ʺleftʺ) my lifeʺ
83: и на тебѣ́ се надѣꙗ дá ме поми́лꙋвашь. ʺand in yourself I hope that you have mercy upon meʺ
84: и не дѣи́ се гнꙋ́си, ѿ ме́не що сам тво́а роби́нꙗ. ʺdon't turn away in disgust from me, your servantʺ
85: зáщо и áзь ѿ млáдость твое́мꙋ снꙋ послѣдꙋвах ʺbecause I followed your son and prayed since my youthʺ
86: и млю се ʺand I pray (you)ʺ
87: и тиʺ знае́шь двце мо́е то жен͛ско есство. и мо́а слáбость ʺand you know, o Virgin, my womanly nature and my weaknessʺ
що́ е на мо́а та дша озно́ба. ʺwhich worries my soulʺ (ʺwhich is my soul's worryʺ)
88: ами и тиʺ стаа бце. ʺbut you, o St Mother of Godʺ
ти́ ми бꙋ́ди помощни́ци ʺyou be my helperʺ
89: зáщо ѡсвѣ́нь те́бе на дрꙋ́го мѣ́сто наде́жда не имам ʺbecause I have no hope at another place than by yourselfʺ
90: амиʺ тиʺ ми бꙋ́ди настáвница ʺbut you be my teacherʺ
дá ме настáвишь на добро̂. и на покаáнїе ʺso that you leads me to the goodness and remorseʺ
91: тиʺ дá ме ꙋпáзишь ѿ си́чко злоʺ. ʺ(so that) you shall protect me from all evilʺ
92: защо̂ когà бѣх въ пꙋ́стынꙗ, те́бе имах помощница. ʺbecause I had yourself as my helper as I was in (the) desertʺ
93: а сегá се врь́нах въ ми́рь. ʺbut now I have returned into (the) worldʺ
94: ами пáкь и сегá ме ꙋчю́ваи и ꙋпази ʺbut now, hear and protect me againʺ
95: и помощни́ца ми бꙋ́ди ʺand be my helperʺ
96: и покрїи́ ме ѿ сичко злоʺ. ʺand cover me from all evilʺ
97: И товá се помо́ли, and thus she prayed
98: и плáка ѿ си́чко срдце. and wept from all heart
99: И излѣ́зе and she left
100: и трь́гна да иде на свое́ то си ѿчьство and went (ʺto goʺ) to her (ʺownʺ) homeland
101: и дои́де, до епивáти что̂ бѣ́ше неи́но отчьство. and came to Epibates, which was her homeland
102: и прѣбиʺ тáмо врѣ́ме не мáло and stayed there for quite some time
103: и ни́кои не познáваше ю and nobody recognized her
104: и тáмо по́сть метáнїе бдѣ́нїе. and there (she did much) fasting, meditation (and) staying awake
ко́и мо́же искáза. who could tell (how much?)
105: въ врѣ́ме нѣ́кое проми́на се some time passed
106: и познá че щѐ да сѐ прѣстáви.
107: и сто́ри си млба на ба.
108: и рче сь сльзы.
109: Члколю́б͛че
влдко да нѐ остáвишь ме́не що сáмь рáба ʺdo not leave me, (who am) your servantʺ
тво́а дето сáмь рáди име твоѐ оставила сич͛ко. ʺwho has left everything for your nameʺ
110: и к тебѣ̀ прибѣгнах. ʺand to yourself I ranʺ
111: амѝ ги бе мо́и. пове́ли агглꙋ, ми́р͛но ʺbut, my Lord God, give a calm command to an angelʺ
дá ми прїе́мле дша та. ʺto receive my soulʺ
112: и да мѝ не бꙋ́де забране́но да ꙋлѣ́за на тво́е црство. ѿ не чи́сты и скврь́ны бѣсо́ве ʺand that I wouldn't be barred from entering your kingdom by unpure and tainted demonsʺ
113: ами́ ме спо́дби без͛ стах. да стана прѣд тво́и стрáшны прѣсто́ль. ʺbut make me worthy to stand without fear before your awesome throneʺ
114: оти сѝ блсвень ги вь вѣ́ки ʺbecause you are blessed, o Lord, in eternityʺ
115: ами́нь. ʺamenʺ
116: И товá се помли, and thus she prayed
117: и тоꙗʺ час прѣдáде си дша та бꙋ. and in that moment she turned her soul over to God
118: и тѣ́ло то и погре́боха нѣ́кои хрстїане. and some Christians buried her body
119: и не позна ю нико́и, догдеʺ погребохá ю. and no one knew her, as they buried her
120: нѝ знаꙗ́ха ю ѿ ки́дѣ бѣʺ до́шла. nor they knew where she had come from
121: и тáка проводи дни те сво́и тꙋ́ка. на зе́млꙗ and thus she passed her days here on the Earth
122: а тáмо наи́де голѣ́мь поко́и. and there she found peace
123: Ами и тꙋ́ка гь бь не ѡстáвї ѧ дá е за мно́го дни ськрїе́на. на зе́млꙗ but even here, Lord God wouldn't leave her hidden in the Earth for long
и да ѐ без͛ пáметь неино то чи́стое и свѣть́лое тѣ́ло. to leave her pure and holy body to remain without rememberance
124: ами покáза чю́до дїв͛но. зарáди неи́ни те мо́щи стїи. but he showed a miracle on her holy relics
125: Нѣ́кои по́стнык имáше тáмо there was a hermit
126: на стлъ́пь прѣби́ваше. he lived on a pillar
127: и по́стеше си бли́зꙋ при онова мѣ́сто. гдеʺто е би́ль гро́бь стѣи пе́ткы. and he fasted near the site of the St Petka's grave
128: и слꙋчи́ се тʺ ꙋмрѣ̀ нѣ́кои корáбныкь and it came to pass, a sailor died
129: и фрьлихá го тáмо бли́зꙋ при ѡн͛зи стль́пь and they threw him there, close to that pillar
130: и по́че да исходи смрáдь ѿ не́го зльʺ. and a terrible stench started to come out from him
ко́лкото ве́ке не мо́жеше да по́мине тáмо члкь. ве́ке ѿ злаʺ мири́зма so much that one couldn't pass by because of the stench
131: заедно и ѡнзи стль́пникь. ве́ке не мо́же да трьпѝ ѡнзи смрáдь. neither the stylite could suffer that stench
132: ами слѣ́зе ѿ ѡньзи стль́пь. so he climbed down from the pillar
133: и наи́де члци and he found some men
134: и повелѣ им. да ископáють трáпь голѣ́мь and he commanded them to dig a big hole
да тꙋ́реть оно́ва тѣ́ло что̂ смрьдѣ́ше. to throw that stinking body (down there)
135: и онїа члци послꙋ́шаха оного́зи по́стника. and those people obeyed the hermit
136: и поидоха тáмо and they went there
137: и зе́ха да копаю́ть. and started to dig
138: и наидоха тѣ́ло то стѣи пе́т͛кы цѣ́ло и хꙋ́баво and they found the body of St Petka, healthy and beautiful
139: и мири́зма хꙋбáва кол͛кото нави́ваше тáзи мири́зма на тои́зи смрáдь. and how (her) beautiful scent covered the odor of that stench!
140: и онїа члци бѣ́ха глꙋ́павы и не разꙋ́мны and those people were dumb and irrational
141: и не мого́ха да сѐ ꙋсѣ́теть за онова стое тѣ́ло. and they couldn't understand that (it was a) holy body
142: защо̂ нико́и не знае́ше че їе тáмо погре́бена ста пе́тка because nobody knew that St Petka was buried there
143: оти бѣ́ше ѡ дáвна погре́бена. because she was buried since long
144: ами́ се мно́го чю́диха, кáкь да сторет and they wondered a lot what should they do
145: и ре́коха си ме́ждꙋ себѣ̀. and they said to each other:
146: ко́и пáкь да копáе на дрꙋ́го мѣ́сто. ʺwho would dig elsewhereʺ
147: амї е тꙋ́ка тои́зи гро́бь до́ста широ́кь, и дльбо́кь ʺthis grave here is wide and deep enoughʺ
148: да тꙋри́ме и онáзи мрь́ша да нѐ смрь́ди. ʺlet's throw that corpse (here) as well, so that it doesn't stinkʺ
149: а то ако бꙋ́де то́ва сто тѣ́ло. бь ще́ го извáди ʺand if it would be a holy body, God will take it outʺ
150: и зари́наха онáзи мрь́ша тáмо при стое оновà тѣ́ло. and they buried that corpse there next to that holy body
151: и рази́доха се по домá си: - and they all went home
152: И ѿ тѣ́хь нѣ́кои члкь геѡргїе име то мꙋ хрстїанинь. до́брь one of them (was) a certain Georgi, a good Christian
153: и то́и като́ си пои́де домá си. и повече́ра напоко́нь стáна дá се помо́ли бꙋ. and as he also went home and dined, he stood up to pray to God
като́ си чи́нѣше сѣ́когы мо́л͛ба мно́го. as he always did, doing a lot of prayer
154: И на сь́мнꙋвáнїе заспà. and at the twilight he fell down asleep
155: и видѣʺ една женâ като̂ една цари́ца. and he saw a woman (looking) like a queen
156: и сѣдѝ на сто́ль злáть свѣ́тли́кавь. and she sat on a shiny golden throne
157: и ѡколо̀ неꙗ̀ стоють мно́го вои́не хꙋ́бави и свѣтли́кавы. and many beautiful, shiny warriors stood around her
158: и тои́ се ꙋплáши and he was scared
159: и пáде на зе́млꙗ and he fell to the ground
160: и растрепе́ра се and he trembled
161: ѿ хꙋ́бость не мо́жеше да гле́да тоꙗ́ свѣ́ть, he couldn't watch that light for its beauty
162: и еди́нь ѿ онїа хꙋбáви и свѣтли́кави мом͛ци прїстáпи and one of those beautiful shiny young men stepped to him
163: и ꙋзе го за рꙋ́ка and he seized his arm
164: и рче мꙋ. and he said to him:
165: стáны геѡргїе ʺstand up, Georgi!ʺ
166: и ѿи́ сте такà сто́риле. ʺand as you did soʺ
167: та сте остáвиле ѡновà тѣло воне́що при тѣ́ло то стѣи пе́ткы. ʺas you left that stinking body next to the body of St Petkaʺ
168: амѝ ско́ро да пои́дешь ʺyou shall go quicklyʺ
169: да извáдишь мо́щи те стѣи пет͛кы. ʺand you shall retrieve the relics of St Petkaʺ
170: и дá гы остáвишь оу ков͛че́гь златѝ. ʺand you shall put them to a golden coffinʺ
171: защо̀ црь пожáли неи́на добри́на ʺfor the King craves for her virtueʺ
172: и ще гь се́га да ю̀ прослáви. по си́чкы свѣ́ть. ʺand now Lord will spread her fame in the whole worldʺ
173: Тогáзи и тїá мꙋ сáма подꙋ́ма then she spoke to him herself:
174: ско́ро извадѣ́те мои́ те мо́щи. ʺretrieve my relics quicklyʺ
175: и положѣ́те на хꙋ́баво мѣ́сто. ʺand put (them) on a nice placeʺ
176: защо̂ не мо́гꙋ да трьпи́м азь за мно́го тои́зи смрáдь. ʺbecause I can't suffer that stench anymoreʺ
177: не бои́ш ли се ѿ ба да нѐ биʺ пꙋ́стиль бь о́гнь да вѝ попáли. ʺdon't you fear God that he'd cast fire to burn you?ʺ
178: и азь сáмь члкь ѿ маи́ка и ѿ бáща роде́на. ʺand I am a human (too), born from a mother and a fatherʺ
179: и мо́е ѿчьство епивáти щото́ го зове́те и дето́ сте вїе се́га на не́го. ʺand my fatherland (is) Epibates, as you call it and where do you live nowʺ
180: И прѣзь тáзи но́щь и дрꙋ́га женâ добрâ хрстїанка име́ то е́и Єфимїа и тїа такво́зи видѣ́ла. and in that night another woman, a good Christian, her name was Efimia, saw such (a vision)
181: и такви́зи дꙋми и неѝ ре́кле. and they said such words to her
182: и зарачáле and commanded:
183: ско́ро ꙋтрѣ рáно да кáжешь то́ва. дá ви ѿ ба ог͛нь не изгорѝ.. ʺyou shall tell that early in the morning, so that you won't be burned down by the fire of Godʺ
184: И наꙋтрѣ излѣ́зоха и дваʺ та and the both went out in the morning
185: и казáха на си́чки тáмо по коне́ць. and told to all who where there to the end
186: И като̂ чю́ха товà Єпївáт͛сцїи лю́дїе. ско́ро си́чки те́коха, and as the people of Epibates heard it, they all hurried (to the grave)
187: и сьс͛ голѣ́ма рáдость. извади́ха мо́щи те е́и като̂ нѣ́кое мно́гоцѣ́н͛но скро́вище and they retrieved her relics with great joy, as a very precious treasure
188: и мно́го се чю́диха на неи́но то стое тѣ́ло. and they wondered a lot about her holy body
189: ѿ тол͛кози врѣ́ме кáкь сто́и цѣ́ло и крáсно how could it stay so healthy after so much time
и блгоꙋ́хае, ѿ хꙋ́бава ми́ри́зма да сѐ члкь не насы́ти. and (how could it) smell of beautiful scent, so that one cannot stop smell it
190: И ꙋзе́ха оно́ва тѣло сь свѣщи и сьс͛ кади́л͛ници и сьс͛ ѳїмїан. и измирно и дрꙋгѝ хꙋбáви аромáти and they took that body with candles and censers and thyme and myrrh and other beautiful incenses
191: и ѿне́соха ꙗ сьс͛ голѣма рáдость and carried her away with great joy
192: и поло́жиха ꙗ вь цркова стых апслль. and they laid her in the Church of the Holy Apostles
193: И тáмо мно́го чю́до сто́ри тогáзи стаа пе́т͛ка. and St Petka then performed many miracles there
194: бѣ́снїи исцѣлꙗ́ха и бо́л͛нїи и глꙋ́хїи. и еѕáвї the mad were cured, and the ill, the deaf and the wounded as well
195: и ѿ сѣкáква бо́лесть, ко́й дохо́ждаха и вѣ́ра имахà чи́ста. и любо́вь ѿ си́чко срдце на стаа тоꙗ̀ час исцѣлꙗ́ваха. and those, who came, and had pure faith and love for St Petka from the whole heart, were cured from any illness instantly
196: И прочю́ се по си́чка зе́млꙗ Єпивать́ска. and she became famous throughout the whole land of Epibates
197: и не ть́кмо тáмо се прочю̀. and she became famous not only there
ами и до цриград. but even in Tsarigrad
и по си́чка зе́млꙗ. and on the whole Earth
198: И врѣ́ме биʺ нѣ́кое and some time passed
199: ослáбнь грьчь́ско царство. the Greek kingdom became weak
200: и сьс͛ бжїе повелѣ́нїе доидо́иха римлꙗ́не. and the Romans came by the divine command
201: и прѣеха цриградь. and they took Tsarigrad
202: Като̂ кáже двдь. as the King David says
203: сьс͛ пáлица желѣ́зна ꙋдрьжáха they ruled ʺwith a rod of ironʺ
204: си́чко ꙋ цригрáдь. плѣни́ха френ͛ци and the Franks looted everything in the Tsarigrad
205: и обрáха злáто и сре́бро. и црко́вны одежди. and they stole gold and silver and ecclesial robes
и сьсꙋ́дїи що̂ бѣ́ха мно́гоцѣ́ннїи and ceremonial instruments, which were very precious
заедно и стїи мо́щи. together with holy relics
206: и си́чко ѿне́соха вь ри́мь:- and they carried everything away to Rome
207: Товà като̂ видѣ́ха и дочáка цáрогрáждане и блгочьстиви сьбо́рь. вьздь́хнꙋ тврь́дѣ голѣ́мь. as the Tsarigradians saw and suffered that, the Holy Synod sighed heavily
208: и голѣ́ма тъ́га имáха тогáзи and they were overcome with great sadness and sorrow
209: и ходѣ́ха като̂ мрь́твы. and they walked as dead
210: и млꙗхꙋ бꙋ and they prayed to God
211: и дꙋ́маха. and they were saying:
212: вьскрснѝ ʺwake upʺ
213: вьскꙋ́ю спи́ши ги. ʺwhy do you sleep, o Lord?ʺ
214: защо̂ заборáви нáшꙋ ни́щетꙋ. и гри́жа нáша ʺwhy do you forget our misery and worries?ʺ
215: и дрꙋ́гы рѣ́чи мно́го се млꙗхꙋ и дꙋ́махꙋ. and they prayed and said many other things
216: И вь товà врѣ́ме, блгочьстивїи цáрь трь́нов͛скїи ıѡáннь асѣ́ню снь стáримꙋ бль́гар͛скимꙋ цáрꙋ асѣ́ню. крѣп͛ко дрьжáше тогáзи црство. and in that time John Asen, the honorable King of Tarnovo, son of the old Bulgarian King Asen, held his kingdom fast
217: и ни́какь ни ꙋбоꙗ́ се ѿ онїа френ͛ци. като̂ прѣеха цригрáдь. and he was in no way scared by those Franks as they conquered Tsarigrad
218: амѝ еднáкь мꙋ приле́гна врѣме вои́ска да вди́гне да плѣ́нꙋва не чьсти́ви. but he managed to raise an army to subdue the dishonorable (Franks)
и да прѣе́ма зе́млꙗ мно́го. and to conquer a lot of land
219: юнáш͛скїи. сьс͛ бжїе повелѣ́нїе прѣ́е македо́н͛ска зе́млꙗ. и сѣ́рь and he heroically, with the divine command, took the land of Macedon and Serres
и аѳонь́ска го́ра сїирѣ́чь ста го́ра. and the Mount Athos, that is, the Holy Mountain
и око́ло що́ са грáдо́ве со́лꙋнь. and the cities around Salonica
и си́чка землꙗ ѳеталїи́ска. and all the land of Thessaly
220: и триʺвáлїа оузе. тáка и дал͛мáтїа що̂ арбанáшка дрьжáва. and he took both Triballia (Serbia) and Dalmatia, which is a country of Albanians
221: и прѣ́е и до дрáча. and he conquered (it) up to Dyrrhacium
222: и по си́чки земли гдеʺ прѣ́е постáви митропо́лїтѥ и епскпы свѣ́тли. и блгочь́стивыи. and he placed bright and honorable metropolites and bishops to all the lands he conquered
сьс͛ неговы стїи хрисовꙋ́ли. що сâ сегà ꙋ слáвнаа лáвра. ꙋ́ стѣи го́рѣ. by his golden bulls, which are now stored in the famous lavra on the Holy Mountain
223: и нѐ тáкмо тїꙗ зе́мли. като̂ прѣе дá се ѡстáви, и да мꙋ́ се досáди. and he wasn't satisfied by the lands he conquered
224: ами пои́дѐ и на цáригрáдь but he marched to Tsarigrad as well
225: и не́го прѣ́е. and he took it
226: и що̂ бѣ́ха тáмо фре́н͛ци. поклони́ха мꙋ се and the Franks there bowed to him
227: и прѣдáдоха мꙋ се да сà не́гова and they surrenderred to him to be his subjects
раꙗ. и дáнь дá мꙋ дáвать. and to pay him tax
228: И такà си́чко тамо̂ като̂ прѣ́е, and as he conquered there everything
разбрá се и до не́го стѣ пе́тки, слáва та. he heard about the glory of St Petka too
кáкь е стаа и кáкь чи́ны исцѣле́нїе и чю́деса how she was holy and performed healings and miracles
229: тврь́дѣ си на ꙋмь поло́жи за стаа пе́тка. he thought much (lit. ʺlaid to his mindʺ) about St Petka
230: и распáли мꙋ се срдце то, and his heart burned (with desire)
231: като̂ Єле́нь ко́га ожденѣ́е за водâ. ʺas the deer pants for streams of waterʺ
такà и цáрь асѣнь пожелâ кáкъ да сà добїе до ѡнїа стїе мо́щи. so did the King John Asen crave to gain those holy relics
232: защо̂ бѣ́ше са по си́чкїи свѣ́ть распрострѣ́ла блгдть неи́на. и не́ино чю́до. for her grace and miracles were spread around the whole world
233: и пои́де си црь на трь́новь. and the king went to Tarnovo
234: ꙋми́сли Єди́нь зго́ворь до́брь и бꙋ оугоде́нь. and conceived good terms (of peace with Franks), pleasing to God
235: И тогáзи пꙋ́сти повелѣ́нїе на цриград͛. що̂ бѣ́ха тамо̂ френ͛ци and then he sent a command to the Franks in Tsarigrad
236: рче имь and he said to them:
237: не и́щꙋ вáмь нѝ сре́бро нѝ злáто. нѝ бисе́рь нѝ кáменїе мно́гоцѣ́н͛но. ʺI don't want your silver, nor gold, nor pearls, nor precious stonesʺ
238: ами́ ви ищем що̂ е на вáша френ͛ска дрьжáва. град Єпѷвати ʺbut I want from you (something), which is in your Frankish land the town of Epibatesʺ
де́то са мо́щи стѣи пе́т͛кы. ʺwhere the relics of the St Petka are placedʺ
товâ стое тѣ́ло да мѝ даде́те сьс͛ ковьчагá т си̂ ʺto give me this holy body with its coffinʺ
239: тол͛кози и товâ ище́м ѿ вáсь. ʺso much and this is what I want from youʺ
240: Товâ кáто разбрáха фре́н͛ци. що̂ бѣ́ха оу цригрáдь. гото́ви стáнаха as the Franks in Tsarigrad heard it, they were ready (to accept)
241: и послꙋшáха цра сь си́чко срдце. and they obeyed the king with all their heart
242: и поклони́ха се на него́во то повелѣ́нїе. and they bowed to his command
243: и пꙋ́стиха писáнїе и по́клонь до цáра. and they sent a letter of respect to the king
244: и ре́коха and they said:
245: да бꙋ́де во́лꙗ твоꙗ̀ мно́голѣ́тны црꙋ. ʺyour will be done, o king for many yearsʺ
246: що̂ ище́шь оузми ʺtake what you wishʺ
247: ако ище́шь и дша та ны нїе́ са тебѣ̀ поклꙗ́нꙗме. ʺeven if you want our souls, we kneel before youʺ (ʺthe soul from usʺ)
и да ти ще́мь и да баде оу до́брь час. ʺand we will give you (that) and you will have (it) at onceʺ (?)
248: Товà като̂ чю̂ црь. и ѡбрáдꙋва се as the king heard it, he was overcome with joy
249: и мнѣ́ше мꙋ се. кол͛ко да летѝ и да фрька. под͛ небе то and he felt as he was flying in the skies
250: и ѿ голѣ́ма радо́сть не́ маше кáмо що̂ да сто́ри. and he didn't know what to do because of the great joy
251: защо̂ ми́слѣше for he thought:
252: ако сѝ издáмь си́чко злáто и сре́бро ʺif I give away all my gold and silverʺ
зае́дно и полови́на ѿ црство то си̂ ʺI would give the half of my kingdom together with itʺ
дá щемь ть̂кмо стаа пе́тка да прѣне́семь на мо́е црство. ʺonly to bring St Petka to my kingdomʺ
253: и тогáзи пꙋсти прѣосще́ннаго мáр͛ка. ми́трополита вели́каго прѣслáвꙋ сьс͛ голѣ́ма по́честь, and then he sent the holy man Marko, Metropolite of Great Preslav with great honors
да дои́де на епивáть град да прѣ́несЄ тѣ́ло то прподобнеи пе́ткы на слáвны грáдь трьно́вь. to go to the town of Epibates to bring the body of the Reverend Petka to the famous city of Tarnovo
254: и пои́де ѡн͛зи влдка. тáмо and the bishop went there
255: сто́ри си́чко поче́ст͛но що̂ трѣбꙋ́ваше, and he duly did all what was required
256: и ꙋзѐ ѡнїа мо́щи. and he took those relics
257: и идѣшѐ and he went
258: и хвáлеше ба и прпдобна пе́тка. and he praised God and Reverend Petka
259: И кáто прѣми́на си́норь трьно́вьскїи. and when he crossed the Frankish border
и влѣ́зе на тáзи стрь́на бльгар͛ска. and entered this Bulgarian land
сїчки из околꙋ грáдове и селà излѣ́зꙋваха на сре́ща. сь свѣ́щи, all (the people) from the near towns and villages went to meet them with candles
и сщенныци облѣче́ны сь́ сще́ни́чьскы ѡде́жды and clerics clothed in ceremonial robes
260: и проваждáхꙋ стꙋю пе́т͛кꙋ сьс͛ кади́л͛ныци и ѳамїáномь и изми́р͛но и сьс͛ дрꙋ́гы хꙋ́бави миризли́ви аромáти. and they followed St Petka with censers and thyme and myrrh and other beautiful incenses
261: и Кáто разбрà блгочьсти́выи црь иѡáннь асѣ́нь изи́де and when the honorable King John Asěn found it out
из грáда сьс мáтерею свое́ю црцею еленою. и he came out of the city with his mother Queen Helen
сь свое́ю црцею анною. и and with his own Queen Anne
сь вьсѣ́ми вел͛мꙋжїи сь ни́ми and with all of his barons
сь ними же свои́ми вьсѐчстны патрїáрхь кїрь Васи́лїе together with them the most honorable Patriarch Lord Basileus
сь вьсѣ́мь причетѡм црковь́нымь with all of his ecclesiastic servants
сь ни́ми же и мно́жьство мно́го бесчи́сльнаго наро́да. and a lot of people with them together
262: црь же вьсѝ сꙋ́щи. сь ни́мь пѣ́ши ѿидоше ѿ град на че́тири пáприща. сьс͛ мно́гою че́стїю вь срѣте́нїе прподбнѣ́и and the king, as well as those, who were with him went on foot for four shots from the city to meet the Reverend with much honor
263: ю́ же свои́ма чьстнѣ̀ избье́м͛ше рꙋкáма. дшею́ and as they honorably embraced her by their hands
же и вьсѣ́мь цремь and soul and with all the (heart)
лю́бьзно лобизáхꙋ. they were lovingly kissing her
264: и прине́с же положи́ше вь цркви црьсцѣи and as they brought (her), they placed (her) in the royal church
иде́же и до ннꙗ́шнꙗго лежи́ть дне where she lays until today
разли́ч͛на исцѣле́нїа. подаваю́щи и́ же сь вѣ́рою. и любо́вїю кь тоей слáвнѣи притекáющим рáцѣ. granting healing to those who come to that famous coffin with faith and love
265: блгодѣтїю и члколю́биемь. га ба и спса нáшего иѵ ха by the grace and the love for humans of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
266: емꙋ же слáва и дрьжáва сь безначе́лнымь оцемь for His is glory and power, together with his beginning-less Father
престимь и блгымь и животворещи́мь дхомь and the most saint and benevolent and life-sustaining Spirit
и ннꙗ и прсно и вь вѣ́кы вѣко́мь for now and ever and in eternity
