| 2: | tóĭ cr̃ь ʾáleѯan͛drïa kogì dígnu vóĭsku da sè biè sásь grь´ci ʾi bi se, za mnógo vréme | That King Alexander, when he raised an army to fight Greeks, he fought for a long time. |
| 3: | ʾi kogì ʾizleze wt dwm svóĭ | And when he went out of his home, |
| ʾi ōtidè na vóĭsku | and went to war, | |
| ʾi ne vrь´nu se vь domь svoi četiri desetь léta | he did not return home for forty years. | |
| 4: | svè xw´di ʾi bíeše se neprestáno | He was just ceaselessly going on and fighting. |
| 5: | ʾi kade udáréše sásь božïemь povelénïemь svè e nadviválь | And wherever he was attacking, he was victorious. |
| 6: | ʾi nikakvò ne prestájaše wt bóĭ | And he was not stopping the fight in any way. |
| 7: | svè bíeše voin͛stvo, | He just beat the army. |
| 8: | ʾi vidóxu slugì negóvi što mu beše xlebárь ʾi ax͛čia ʾi vinočerpátelь | And thus his servants saw it - (those,) who were his baker, his cook, and his cupbearer. |
| 9: | ʾi dogovoríxu se tróĭca ta da ʾōtróvatь cr̃a ʾáleѯán͛driju | And the three of them agreed to poison King Alexander. |
| 10: | zaštò ʾimь béše dosadílo xodéne sve-ku gódinu da xodatь sásь cr̃a na bóĭ | Because they had been annoyed by the journeys, going each year with the king to fight. |
| 11: | ʾi zaradì to se dógovórixu, tróica ta da ʾōtróvatь cr̃a | And for that (reason) the three of them agreed to poison the king, |
| da umre danó bi se raznéla vóĭska ta | so that he would die, so that the army will be dispersed (?), | |
| ʾi ʾw´ni da se priberutь na dómь, svóĭ | and so they would return home. | |
| 12: | ʾi ʾōtidóxu u edínь grádь | And they went into a city. |
| 13: | ʾi kon͛disà cr̃ь na krái grádь | And the king made camp at the edge of the city. |
| 14: | ʾi vidoxu ʾw´nïę trì slugi cr͂evi ʾedno drь´vo dúdovo zeleno ʾi xubavo ʾizgódno | And those three servants of the king saw a mulberry tree, green and pretty, a nice one. |
| 15: | ʾi raspéxu cr̃u čadьrь podь ʾwnóva drь´vo | And they spread a tent for the king beneath the tree. |
| 16: | ʾi séde cr̃ь podь čadь´ro na sen͛kju | And the king sat down beneath the tent into shadow. |
| 17: | ʾi prïide vréme dá ede xlébь | And the time came to eat bread. |
| 18: | ʾá wnïę trì slúgi cr̃evi míslexu kakvo da ĭmь prilégne da ōtróvatь cr̃a | And the three servants of the king thought, how they could get an opportunity to poison the king. |
| 19: | ʾí edínь wt níxь | And one of them, |
| štoto slúžeše vinó sásь čášu, cr̃u na trьpézu | who served wine to the king with a cup at a table, | |
| ʾi wnь se čudeše kákvò cr̃a da ʾw´tróvi | he, too, wondered, how to poison the king, | |
| da bi uʾmrelь | so that he would die, | |
| da sì ʾidutь svéki na dómь svóĭ | so that everyone would go to his home. | |
| 20: | zaštò ʾimь béše mlógo dosadílo, zámanь krь´voprolïtie | Because the endless bloodshed became very annoying to them. |
| 21: | ʾi uze slugà cr̃eva ʾōtrovu | And the servant of the king took the poison. |
| 22: | ʾi namaza na ʾwnova drьvo dudóvo ʾedínь lístь sásь ʾw´tróvu | And he smeared the poison on the mulberry tree, on one leaf. |
| 23: | ʾi donèswxu cr̃u xlébь ʾi gózba | And they brought bread and (other?) food to the king. |
| 24: | ʾi počè cr̃ь da edè | And the king began to eat. |
| 25: | ʾi ʾw´nьjă sluga nʾálja cr̃u čašu vino | And that servant poured a cup of wine to the king. |
| 26: | ʾi božemь réče kato če sé e nekakь naprašíla čáša | And he suddenly (?) said, that the cup is somewhat dusted. |
| 27: | ʾi segnu sasь ruku gore na drьvo to | And he reached with hand upwards to the tree. |
| 28: | ʾi wtkinu ʾw´nʾjá listь štoto béše namázanь sásь ʾw´trovu | And he plucked the leaf, which had been smeared with poison. |
| 29: | ʾi brьknu sásь listo u čáša ta bóžemь | And he dipped the leaf into the cup at once, |
| kato če štè da ĭzvadi rúsь sasь lísto ʾisь čáša ta | as if to remove the dust with the leaf from the cup. | |
| 30: | ʾi wmi listo sásь ʾw´tróva ta u čáša ta | And he washed the leaf with the poison in the cup. |
| 31: | ʾi dáde cr̃u | And he gave (it) to the king. |
| 32: | ʾi nápi se cr̃ь | And the king drank. |
| 33: | ʾí po nekóĭ časь fanu cr̃ь da sè méta | And after some time, the king began to jitter. |
| 34: | ʾi počè da sè trьška | And he began to throw himself to the ground. |
| 35: | ʾi primučné mu zle | And it became very torturing for him. |
| 36: | ʾi prïide čas samrь´tni štè da umre cr̃ь | And the time of death came: The king will die. |
| 37: | ʾi zbraxu se skóro sví vezire cr̃evi | And all the viziers of the king assembled soon. |
| 38: | ʾi zbráxu se svi boljáre ʾi svi knezove | And all the boyars assembled, and all the princes, |
| ʾi sví voévodi ʾi svi kadïi ʾi svè vóĭnstvo cr͂evo | and all the commanders, and all the judges, and all the king's soldiers, | |
| da vídutь kakvá bi taʾjá rabóta | to see, what was that, what happened. | |
| 39: | ʾi dogdè ʾwní da sè zbérut da vídutь ʾi cr̃ь umre | And until they could assemble to see (what happened), the king died. |
| 40: | ʾá wnïę vezíre rékoxu | And those viziers said: |
| 41: | skóro rasporete ʾédna mь´ska da ʾw´blóžimo cr̃a danò ne bì umrelь | ʺQuickly tear up a mule to put it around the king, so that he would not die!ʺ |
| 42: | ʾí turixu, cr̃a unutre u korúbinu u mьská ta | And they put the king inside, into the body of the mule. |
| 43: | toko mu ʾwstavíxu glávu nádvorь danó bi se saživílь cr̃ь | They left only his head outside, so that the king would become alive again. |
| 44: | ʾi ne može, | And he could not. |
| 45: | nь umrè | But he died. |
| 46: | ʾi táko skon͛ča cr̃ь ʾáleѯandria dš̃u svojù, u tói vréme, | And thus, in that time, King Alexander ended his soul (i.e. died). |
| 47: | Prédь samrь´tь cr̃evu tri četíri dnì kónь cr̃evь što go sámь cr̃ь ʾjázdeše ʾw´nь tokò cvilì | The king's horse, on whom the king himself was riding three (or) four days before his death, he only neighed. |
| 48: | ʾi kopáe sásь noze | And he kicked with his legs. |
| 49: | ʾi ʾizь ʾw´čí te mu slьzi tečéxu katò gradь | And from his eyes tears were flowing like a hailstorm. |
| 50: | ʾi cvilì | And he neighed. |
| 51: | ʾi kopáe | And he kicked. |
| 52: | ʾi pláče kónь za svoego, gospodína | And the horse cries for his lord. |
| 53: | ʾi umára(ša) se kónь wt žálostь | And the horse was getting tired of sorrow. |
| 54: | ʾi réče vezirь | And the vizier said: |
| 55: | ʾela púštete ʾi wtvrьžéte kónь cr͂evь | ʺGo (and) release and unbind the horse,ʺ |
| da vídimo dalí šte storì kónь nékoę čudesa ʾili nekoe znaménïe | ʺso that we see, if the horse will do some miracle or some sign!ʺ | |
| 56: | ʾi prïidoxu človéci | And people came. |
| 57: | ʾi wtvrьzáxu ʾi puštixu konʾjá | And they released and unbound the horse. |
| 58: | ʾá ʾwnь siromáxь kónь kakvo se strášno pribrь´zi nízь ʾwnaʾjá sílna voĭska | And, the poor horse, how terribly he galloped down through that mighty army! |
| 59: | ʾi kakvó li strášno cviléše | And how terribly he neighed! |
| 60: | ʾi kakvi krьvavì slь´zi ʾizь ʾwči te si róneše | And how bloody tears did he shed from his eyes! |
| 61: | ʾi kakvo strášno svóĭ mesa xápeše | And how terribly did he bite his flesh! (?) |
| 62: | ʾi trьči | And he ran. |
| 63: | ʾi cvilì | And he neighed. |
| 64: | ʾi gleda da náĭde togóva človéka štotò cr̃a ʾōtróvi | And he looked around, to find the man, who poisoned the king. |
| 65: | konь trьčéše | The horse ran. |
| 66: | ʾi trážeše | And he searched. |
| 67: | ʾá voiská se rastúpaše | And the army was stepping aside. |
| 68: | ʾi naĭde kónь dušmánina cr̃eva vinočerpátelja | And after some time, the king began to jitter. |
| 69: | ʾi fána go (go) sásь zubí | And he caught him with the teeth. |
| 70: | ʾi sve mu mesá ta sasь zubi sʾjáde | And he bite all of his flesh with the teeth. |
| 71: | ʾi svì mu kósti ʾi stavi sásь noze stróšì ʾradi svoégo gospodína cr̃a aʾáleѯan͛drïju | And he broke all of his bones and joints because of his master, king Alexander. |
| 72: | takò skončà ʾi cr̃evь vinočerpatelь dš̃u svoju zlobidno | Thus also the king's cupbearer badly ended his life. |
| 73: | táko napisáxu vezíre ʾáleѯan͛dróvi | Thus the viziers of Alexander wrote. |
| 74: | tova čudo preslávnoe radi, znaménïe ʾi pofala cr̃ьskaʾjá | This famous miracle (happened) for a sign and praise of the king. |
| 75: | ta-kóvь konécь priè cr̃ь ʾáleѯán͛drïa | Such an end King Alexander received. |
| 76: | ʾi to ʾestь ʾemu sláva ʾi čestь cr͒kaę | And that is his royal glory and honor. |
