7:	ʾi vasaki den dávaše ml͒tínju na siromasi	And he was giving every day alms to the poor.
8:	i putnici uvódeše u dómь svoí	And he was bringing travellers into his house.
9:	ta gi goštévaše ʾi poeše	And then he was giving them food and drinks.
10:	ʾi na zatvórnici xleb nóseše	And he was bringing bread to prisoners.
11:	drugoš͛ gi wtkupuvaše	Another time, he was buying them out.
12:	i u cr͂kvu čьsto, xodeše	And he was going often to church.
13:	ʾi sš̃tenici xar͛no počítaše	And he was nicely honoring the priests.
14:	ʾi čt͒o se pričaštévaše	And he often took communion.
15:	ʾi sasь, slьzi lìce svoè míeše	And he washed his face with tears (during communion).
16:	ʾi po svì sela ʾi gradove mírь tvoreše	And he was making peace in all the towns and cities.
17:	ʾi negovi slugi zámanь preméneni	And his servants (were) always (well-?) clothed.
18:	ʾi kogi prizoveše siromási u domь svoĭ	And when he called the poor to his house,
	ʾi složeše ĭmь trapeza	he made them a table.
19:	ʾi sam si na noze, stoeše	And he stood alone on his legs.
20:	ta imь vino služeše	And thus he poured them wine.
21:	ʾá onь samь na devetь časa xlébь edeše	And he himself ate bread at nine o'clock.
22:	ʾi negovi sródnici mlógo puti go srьdexu sasь nix͛no to bezьum͛stvo	And his relatives were many times angry with him because of their folly.
23:	ʾi dumaxa mu	And they were telling him:
24:	ti tol͛ko si čl͂vékь bolʾjárinь	ʺYou are such a noble man!ʺ
25:	pa zašto sam͛ь stóĭšь na noze	ʺSo why do you stay on your feet?ʺ
26:	ʾi služišь na tíja siromasi	ʺAnd (why do you) serve those poor ones?ʺ
27:	zašto, ne zapovédašь na slugí te svóĭ da imь sluguvatь	ʺWhy don't you command your servants to serve them?ʺ
28:	ʾá tebe ne e prilično da ʾimь slugúešь	ʺFor (lit. and, but) it is not appropriate to you to serve them.ʺ
29:	togiva ʾefimijanь, reče	Then, Euphemianus said:
30:	tija siromási su rabí xr͒tovi	ʺThose poor ones are servants of the Christ.ʺ
31:	ʾi samь xr͒tosь réče,	ʺAnd the Christ Himself said:ʺ
32:	koĭ míluva siroti ʾi siromási samь sebe míluva ʾi počíta	ʺHe who loves poor (men and women), loves and respects himself.ʺ
33:	ʾi koi sluguva síromáxu samómu xr͒tu slugúva	ʺAnd he who serves a poor one, serves the Christ Himself.ʺ
34:	ʾi na stopánicu negóvu béše ʾime ʾáglia	And his spouse's name was Aglaea.
35:	ʾi ʾwna beše ženà razumna, ʾi počitna	And she was a wise and respectable woman.
36:	tьkmo ʾimaxu na srdce žal͛bu	They just had sorrow in their heart.
37:	zaštò bexu bezьčednì	Because they were childless.
38:	ʾi mo-lexu se bg̃u ʾi denь ʾi noštь	And they prayed to God by day and night,
	da ĭmь dade bg̃ь ʾedʾno čedo	so that God would give them a child,
	da bude ʾi nímь ʾi bg̃u ugódno	so that it will be pleasing both them and God.
39:	ʾi bg̃ь ʾimь poslušà što se molexu bg̃u	And God listened, what they prayed to God.
40:	ʾi rodíxu sína	And they gave birth to a son.
41:	ʾi narékoxa mu ʾime, ʾaléѯia	And they gave him the name Alexius.
42:	ʾi goléma rádostь ʾimaxu	And they had a great joy.
43:	ʾi ʾw-čuvaxa go	And they raised him.
44:	ʾi poráste	And he grew up.
45:	ʾi dádoxa gò da se nauči knígu	And they gave him (to teachers) to learn literature.
46:	ʾi béše ʾwstroumno dete	And he was a clever (lit. sharp-minded) child.
47:	ʾi skoro nauči bž͒tvéno pisánïe	And he learned the Holy Scripture soon.
48:	ʾi beše sovrьšénь mudrécь	And he was (became?) a perfect sage.
49:	ʾi pomísli na svóĭ pametь	And he thought in his mind.
50:	ʾi poče da nenavídi toʾjá st̃ь	And he began to hate this world.
51:	ʾi fanu da mrázi ʾimane srebro ʾi zláto	And he began to hate property, silver and gold.
52:	ʾi pomislì da sì sp͒i dš̃u	And he thought about saving his soul.
53:	ʾi ne,prestáno bg̃u se móleše	And he prayed to God without stopping,
	danó bi go bg̃ь spodóbilь u cr͒tvo svoè nb͒noe	so that God makes him worthy of His Kingdom of Heaven.
54:	ʾi na-právi si ríza wt kozinu	And he made himself a fur shirt.
55:	ʾi wbleče ju na sebe na golò	And he put it on himself on the naked (skin).
56:	ʾi wt gore nóseše svíleni dréxi	And over (it) he was wearing silken clothes.
57:	ʾi pokrívaše kózinava ta ríza	And he was covering the furry shirt,
	da ju ne vídi nikoĭ	so that nobody sees it,
	nitì da sè dosetat negóvi rodítele	and so that his parents won't find out.
58:	ʾi ʾwni po malo doséštaxu se kakvò nenavídit ʾáleѯia da sédi u mírь	And (but?) they were little by little getting the idea, that Alexius hates to stay in the civilized world,
	síréčь u grádь ʾili u selo	that is, in a city or in a village.
59:	nь se potkánixu da gò ʾwženutь po skoro	But they decided to wed him soon,
	da ne bì négde ʾwtíšlь po mana-stíre	so that he would not leave for some monasteries,
	da gì ʾwstavi	leaving them.
60:	ʾi naidóxa mu u rímь grádь xúbava devíca	And they found him in the city of Rome a pretty maiden,
	wt blágь, ródь ʾi bogáta	from a good family and rich.
61:	ʾi ʾáléѯia za ženídbu i ne mísleše	And (but?) Alexius did not think about marriage.
62:	tь´kmo gore na nb͒a mísle-še	He was thinking only upwards, towards (?) the heavens.
63:	ʾi žaleše	And he was sad.
64:	zašto se béše vьselílь, dx̃ь st̃i u negóvo srdce	Because the Holy Spirit had settled itself in his heart.
65:	ʾi na roditele svoĭ dúmaše kakvò ne šte da se žení ʾi da ʾima mlógo gríža ʾi prebí-tlьkь	And he was telling his parents, that he did not want to marry, and to have many worries and (material?) profits.
66:	ʾá wní go mólexu da gì posluša da gò ʾwžénatь	But they prayed him to listen to them, to (let them) wed him.
67:	zaštò poslè né možat da nàĭdutь takáva ʾizbrána devíca	Because afterwards they cannot (were not going to be able?) find such an exquisite maiden.
68:	ʾi mísleše ʾáléѯia da sotvóri vólju ʾoc͂u svoʿemu ʾi maĭke si	And Alexius was thinking about fulfilling the wish of his father and his mother.
69:	ʾi reče bašté si	And he said to his father:
70:	ʾóč̃e ʾi tì maĭko mojà míla da, bude vólja vaša kakvo rekox͛te vie	ʺO father, and you too, o my dear mother, may your will be done, as you said.ʺ

76:	kogí bi na večer uleze ʾáléѯia na mésto xubavo posljano	As the evening came (closer), Alexius went to a nicely prepared bed.

78:	ʾi dovédoxa mu na postélju nevéstu	And they brought him the bride to the bed.
79:	pa togíva ʾáleѯʾi ʾizvadi wt prьstь svóĭ zlaten prьstenь	And then, Alexius took down the golden ring from his finger.
80:	ʾi wví go u svilena máxrama	And he wrapped it in a silken veil.

89:	ʾi nikoĭ go ne vidè kogì ʾizléze ʾiz grádь prezь nóštь	And nobody saw him, as he went out of the city.
90:	ʾi ʾwstavi si xubavu mládu nevestu na svílenu postilkju	And he left his beautiful, young bride on the silken bed.
91:	ʾi doĭde na kráĭ more	And he came to the sea shore.
92:	ʾi naĭde edin korábь privézanь	And he found one tied ship.
93:	stoéše prázdenь,	It stood empty.
94:	ʾi uleze u négo	And he entered it.
95:	i plavà po moré to dw, grádь lawʿdíkia	And he sailed on the sea to the city of Laodicea.
96:	pa ĭzleze iz korába na suxu zémlju	And then he stepped out of the ship on the dry ground.
97:	ʾi pomolí se bg̃u	And he prayed to God.
98:	ʾi réče	And he said:
99:	bž͂e ml͒tivi tí si sotvorílь nebo ʾi zémlju	ʺO merciful God, you have created the heavens and the earth.ʺ
100:	ʾi méne začúvaĭ wt toʾjá lьžóvnï st̃ь da nè pogíbnemь ʾi ja sásь ne dostoĭni	ʺProtect me, too, from that deceitful world, so that I don't perish with the unworthy.ʺ
101:	no spodobí me gd͒i wt désnuju tébe sásь st̃i tvóĭ što sù tébe ugodíli,	ʺBut make me worthy, o Lord, (to stand) at your right (side) with your saints, who had pleased you.ʺ

104:	ʾi poi-de da ulézne u grádь lawdíkiju	And he went to enter the city of Laodicea.
105:	ʾi u toę čásь go srešnáxu čl̃véci što gì béše pratilь baštá mu da go trážutь	And in that moment, people, whom had sent his father to search for him, have met him.
106:	ʾi ʾideše kam͛to grádь záedno sásь nix	And he went to the city together with them.
107:	ʾi uleze u grádь	And he entered the city.
108:	ʾi prodáde si svíleni tè dréxi wt sébe	And he sold all the silk clothes from him.
109:	ʾi ʾwbleče se u drugi dréxí grózni ʾi razdráni	And he clothed himself in other clothes - ugly and torn ones.
110:	ʾi što béše uzelь wt domá si srebrò ʾi zláto sve go razdáde na siromási	And the gold and silver, which he took from the home, he distributed it all among the poor.
111:	ʾi ʾwnь sedéše katò prosjak na cr͂kóvni vráta	And he sat as a beggar at the church door.
112:	ʾi pósteše se wt nedelja do nedélja	And he was fasting from Sunday to Sunday.
113:	uzímaše náfora	He was taking communion.
114:	ʾi ede-še po dvè ʾugli xlébь síiréčь po dvà dráma	And he was eating two ounces of bread, that is two drams.
115:	ʾi po dvè čáši vódu piéše	And he was drinking two cups of water.
116:	ʾi dogdé bi támo na taʾjá cr͂kva svu nošt ne spéše	And as he was at that church, he did not sleep the whole night.
117:	sve sè bg̃u móleše	He was only praying to God.
118:	ʾi što mu človéci za bg̃a dávaxu	And what the people were giving him for God (alms),
	ʾwnь ʾi tovà na siromási dávaše	he was giving even that to the poor.
119:	ʾá baštá mu puštì, čl͂véci da gò trážutь nizь grádь laʾwdikiju	And his father sent people to search for him in the city of Laodicea.
120:	ʾi ne naĭdóxa go	And they did not find him.
121:	ʾi ōtidóxu u grádь ʾefesь	And they went to the city of Ephesus.
122:	ʾi tražíxu	And they searched (for him).
123:	ʾi naĭdoxa go	And they found him.
124:	ʾalʾi ne možéxu da gò poznájutь	But they could not recognize him.
125:	ʾi dadoxa mu za bg͂a katò na prósjaka	And they gave him (alms) for God, as to a beggar.
126:	ʾi ʾōtidóxu si slugí te báštini mù	And the servants of his father went away.
127:	a ʾwnь níxь pózna	And he recognized them.
128:	ʾi ne šteja da ĭm se príkaže	And (but?) he did not want to make himself known to them.
129:	no mlьčéše	But he was silent.
130:	ʾi bg̃a neprestáno, móleše	And he prayed to God without stopping.
131:	ʾi réče ʾáleѯia	And Alexius said:
132:	sláva tebe gospodi	ʺGlory (be) to you, o Lord!ʺ
133:	kakvo mi doĭdoxu domášni rábi	ʺHow the servants of my house came!ʺ
134:	ʾi ne poznáxu me	ʺAnd they did not recognize me!ʺ
135:	ʾi dádoxu mì za bg͂a ml͒tínju	ʺAnd they gave me alms for God!ʺ
136:	kogì ʾwbidóxu po séla ʾi po grádove ʾi po mn͒tíre ʾi nígde go ne naĭdoxu	When they went around the villages and the cities and the monasteries, they did not find him anywhere.
137:	ʾi nígde go né razbráxu	And they did not understand him (his location?) anywhere.
138:	ʾi vrьnáxu se nazádь u rímь grádь	And they returned back to the city of Rome.
139:	ʾi ʾōtídoxu si u dómь svóĭ	And they returned to their home.
140:	ʾi kazaxu ʾefimíʾánu ʾoc͂u ʾáléѯinomu kakvo nigde ne su razbráli aléѯiju	And they told Euphemianus, that they had not understood (location of) Alexius anywhere.
141:	togíva goléma, skrь´bь póstignu efimĭana	Then, a great sorrow afflicted Euphemianus.
142:	ʾi svi srodnici negóvi ʾwskrьbéxu	And all of his relatives became sad.
143:	ʾi svь grad málo ʾi golemo póžali ʾáleѯovu ženidbu	And the whole city more or less was sad because of the Alexius' wedding.

152:	ʾi zločésta mláda nevésta ʾáleѯova plačeše za svoè zlopolučénïe kakvo skóro ʾwbdovè	And the misfortunate young bride of Alexius cried for her misfortune, how quickly she became a widow.
153:	ʾi tako plačeše mláda nevesta	And thus the young bride cried.

181:	ʾi prixodexu človéci wt dalégo ʾi mlozína da go vídutь ʾi da go početútь st̃ago	And people were coming, many from afar, to see him and to respect him, the saint.
182:	ʾi gledaxu; čl͂véci negóvo žítïe	And people were watching his life.
183:	ʾi čudexu se;	And they were wondering.
184:	ʾi slávexu bg̃a	And they were praising God.
185:	ʾi kato sè čudexu človéci za négo	And as the people were wondering about him,
	ʾá ʾwnь se uboę` radì, poxvála ʾi sláva čl͂véčeska	he became afraid of praise and human glory,
	da ne zagubi nb͒nuju slávu	so that he would not lose the glory of heavens.
186:	ʾi pómisli da, pobégne wt támo da ĭde na drugo mésto deto gò ne poznáva níkoĭ	And he thought about running away to another place, where nobody knows him.
187:	ʾi prïide na kráĭ moré to	And he came to the sea shore.
188:	ʾi naĭde ʾedïn korábь wt kíliskíju	And he found a ship from Cilicia.
189:	ʾi séde u korábu	And he sat in the ship.
190:	ʾi mísleše da ĭde u tar͛siski grádь;	And he thought about going to the city of Tarsus.
191:	ʾi tamo ʾimaše préxubava cr̃kva ʾáp͒tlu pávlu	And there was a very beautiful church of St. Paul.

199:	ʾi doĭde korabo na mírski grad rímь	And the ship came to the settled city of Rome.
200:	ʾi nikakvo ne štéše ʾáleѯia da ʾizьlezne na suxw	And Alexius did not want to step on the dry (ground) in any way.

237:	ʾi svaku nedélju pričaštávaše se	And he was taking communion every Sunday.
238:	ʾi tova ne možè da trьpi vrágь	And the Enemy could not suffer this.

307:	no na suxo drьvo da sedímь	ʺBut I will sit on dry wood.ʺ
308:	ʾi da ne píemь bístra voda	ʺAnd let I don't drink fresh water.ʺ
309:	ʾi razmuti ju sásь noze	And she stirred it with feet.
310:	ʿi tako ju mutnu pieʿtь	And she drinks it thus stirred.
311:	tьkmo žáli ʾi plače; za svoe zločéstie	She just cries and weeps for her misfortune.
312:	ʾi takóĭ govoreše	And thus she spoke:
313:	žal͛na ʾi tužna da ʾwmiemь lice moe sasь slьzi	ʺMay I, sad and mournful, wash my face with tears.ʺ
314:	ʾi wt tuga da umremъ	ʺAnd may I die of sorrow!ʺ
315:	ʾI wt druga strana maĭka ʾáléѯova tužeše	And from the other side, the mother of Alexius was sad.
316:	ʾi govoreše	And she was speaking:

325:	ʾi poradi tia žal͛ni réči mlógo tegota prixódeše ʾáléѯiju kato pla-čexu ʾi denь ʾi noštь pri nego	And because of those sorrowful words, a lot of heaviness came to Alexius, as they cried for day and night next to him.
326:	ʾi ne poznávaxa go	And they were not recognizing him.
327:	ʾi wnь ʾim se nikakь ne wbadi	And he did not call to them in any way.
328:	tvrь´do srdce na čl̃veka	A hard heart for a man!
329:	ʾá na bg̃a ml͒tivo	But for God - a merciful one!
330:	ʾi pomísli kakvo reče sámь xr͒tosь vo st̃oe ʾeѵg͂gelïe	And he thought about what the Christ himself had said in the Holy Gospel:
331:	koi ljúbi oc͂a svoegò ili maĭku svoju kato méne ne e mene dostoenь	ʺAnyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me.ʺ
332:	ʾi paki reče xr͒tosь	And again, the Christ says:
333:	kóĭ w-stavi sveku xubosь svileni drexi ʾili imane srebro ʾi zlato ʾi baštu ʾi maĭku	ʺHe, who leaves all the beauty, silken clothes, or property, silver and gold, and the father and the mother,ʺ

339:	ʾi va edna nóštь ʾjávi mu se xrt͒osь na sь´nь	And in one night, the Christ appeared to him in a dream.

341:	u petkь xoštešь da se ʾwstávišь wt mirskì trud	ʺOn Friday, you will free yourself of the worldly suffering,ʺ
	ʾi skrьbi ʾi tesnotì ʾi pečáli	ʺand sorrows, and anxieties, and sadness,ʺ
	da prïʾidešь gdéto ne imat ni skrьbь ni pečalь ni vozdíxanïe	ʺso that you come there, where is neither sorrow, nor sadness, nor moaning.ʺ

347:	ʾi pisa kakvo taino xorotuva na svoju nevéstu	And he wrote, what he secretly said to his bride.
348:	ʾi dáde i prьsten ʾi póesь ʾi drugi nékoi potaĭni, raboti	And he gave her the ring, and the belt, and some other secret things.

360:	ʾi sebe si ni málo; ne pomiluvaxь	ʺAnd I was not a bit merciful to myself.ʺ

394:	ʾi patriar͛xu prigotvi prestólь kakvoto e prilično	And he prepared a throne for the Patriarch, as it is appropriate.
395:	ʾi na svi te boljáre ʾi na klirici ugotova xubavo ʾi čt͒no	And he prepared (chairs) for all the boyars and clerics, nicely and respectfully.
396:	ʾi zapalíxu svešti	And they lighted the candles.
397:	ʾi uzexu čt͒ni ʾikonï slugí te ʾefimianovi da posréšnutь cr̃a ʾi patria͛rxa	And the servants of Euphemianus took honorable icons to meet the Emperor and the Patriarch.
398:	ʾi doĭdoxu	And they came.
399:	ʾi sednaxu svì boljáre na prestóle	And all the boyars sat on the thrones.
