1:	[===] Блáгослове́ни хри́стиӑни послꙋшаите какво̀ заповедꙋ́еть нáмь ст҃и ҆иѡ҆áнь злáтоꙋсть за хр͒тиӑни	[Foreword] O blessed Christians, listen to what St. John Chrysostom tells Christians to do!
2:	какво не подобáеть хр͒тианинꙋ да бꙋде тафраџїа ҆и кавгаџїа ҆и високоꙋмен	[Foreword] How it is inappropriate for a Christian to be a braggart and conflicting and haughty.
3:	Ре́че [♣] бл҃же́ни їѡáнь злáто҆ꙋсть	Blessed John Chrysostom said:
4:	҆ѡ чл҃вече, бж҃їи коги́ сáкашь вѝсокоʾꙋмнаго чл҃ве́ка да ꙋкро́тишь не де́и го мло́го ꙋчи́ти	O man of God, when you want to tame a haughty man, do not teach him a lot!
5:	но мал͛ко мꙋ продꙋ́маи не́коꙗ ре́чь мꙋдра ҆и їзбрана	But tell him a bit of wise and chosen words.
6:	та мꙋ ре́чи	So tell him:
7:	принеси́ мꙋ на памет чл҃веческа си́ла ҆и не́мощь	Bring to his mind human strength and weakness!
8:	҆áко ти́ послꙋ́ша дꙋма та ҆á ти пáки речи́ мꙋ	If he listens to your word, then tell him:
9:	҆ѡ чл҃ве́че почто́ толи́ко возноси́ш(и) се	ʺO man, why do you brag about so much?ʺ
10:	҆и пощо тол͛ко тафрá чи́нишь	ʺO man, why do you show so much arrogance,ʺ
	҆и (ди)гаши се на голе́мо като ди́вь	ʺand raise yourself to heights as a wild one?ʺ
11:	та не ви;диш ли че сѝ ҆и тѝ чл҃векь като ҆и ниѐ	ʺAnd so you cannot see, that you are a human as we are?ʺ
12:	҆и ти́ си землꙗ́ ҆и пепе́ль като́ ҆и све́ки- чл҃векь	ʺYou are, too, earth and ash, as every man!ʺ
13:	защо ни [бг҃ь] создáде ѿ зе́млю	Because God created us from the earth.
14:	҆и не мо́же висо́коꙋмень чл҃векь да познáе себе́ че е ҆и ѡнь землꙗ̀ ҆и пепель	And a haughty man cannot know himself, that he is earth and ash too.
15:	нело сѐ ѡбзи́ра на сво́й хꙋбави преме́ни	Because he looks on his beautiful clothes.
16:	҆и натафрил͛ се	And he has decorated himself
17:	҆и на голе́мо хо́ди ҆и славень на льжо́вна пофáла	And he walks as a great one, a glorious one, (following?) false praise.
18:	҆и коги ҆имь стою́ть; слꙋги на но́зе на трь́пезꙋ ҆и ни́мь ҆ѡще по дрàго ҆иде	And when servants stay for them by their feet at the table, they feel (lit. it goes) even more precious.
19:	҆и почнꙋть да се шегꙋват сáсь ни́хь	And they begin to make fun of them.
20:	҆и смеют͛ се	And they laugh.
21:	҆и дꙋмать свекакви не потре́бни дꙋ́ми	And they speak many inappropriate words.
22:	҆и по товà не може да познае чл҃векь какво́ ще да проми́не нá т҆оꙗ ст҃ь	And afterwards a man cannot know, how (?) will he pass into that world.
23:	҆á защо не́ йде на гро́бища	But why does he not go to a cemetery,
	да ви́ди какво́ сꙋ гро́бове пль́ни сась. ко́сти чл҃ве́чески смрьдли́ви	to see, how the graves are full of stinking human bones?
24:	҆и не може трьпе́ти тол͛кова смрáдь	And he cannot (would not?) stand so much stench.
25:	нело сѐ ѡбзи́ра на хꙋ́бави премени млогоценї	Because he looks on his beautiful, precious clothes.
26:	҆и паки да вѝ рече́мь	And let me tell you again:
27:	не познавáте ли себе че стѐ землꙗ̀ ҆и пе́пель	Don't you know yourself, that you are earth and ash?
28:	҆и смрьдлѝво; тело не познáвате ли слàбое	And you know not the stinking, weak body?
29:	҆и крàтко е чл҃ве́чески живо́ть	And the human life is short.
30:	не надàйте се когá прибли́жи самрь́ть	Have no hope, when the death comes closer!
31:	тоги́ва да сѐ покаете	Then, you should repent.
32:	защо̀ тоги́ва не мо́жешь да познаеш какво ле́сно прїйде самрьть	Because then, you will not be able to know, how easily death comes.
33:	защо е члове́кь землꙗ̀ ҆и пепель	Because human is earth and ash.
34:	҆и не може да ви́ди стрáшни ҆анг҃гели	And he cannot see the terrible angels,
	какво слáзꙋть ѿ нбс҃а	as they descend from the heavens,
	да мꙋ заби́ю слꙋхь	to crush his hearing,
	да се не памти	so that he would not remember,
	на ко́й е ст҃ь	on which world he is.
35:	но пáки те́гли	But still he draws (the hearing?)
36:	҆и ми́сли дà йде на не́бо	And he thinks, that he goes to the heavens.
37:	но разꙋме́йте хр͒тиӑни	But do understand, o Christians!
38:	по самрьть не ма пока҆ꙗ́нїе	There is no repentance after the death!
39:	когѝ ҆идешь на ҆ѡнꙗ ст҃ь тамо ҆и да даваш сребро ҆или злáто да се ҆ѡпрáвишь, пре́дь бг҃а	When you go to the other world, you may (want to?) give there even silver or gold, to buy yourself out from God.
40:	҆или дá се покáешь тамо	Or you may (want to?) repent there.
41:	не́ ма ко́й да ꙋзме сребро ҆и злàто да те ѿдꙋма пре́дь бг҃а	(But) there is no one to take silver and gold from you, to defend you in front of God.
42:	нело догде сѝ жи́вь на то́ꙗ сꙋетни ст҃ь покӑи се	So, repent, as long as you are alive in this vain world!
43:	҆и помоли́ се бг҃ꙋ	And pray to God!
44:	҆и просльзи́ се	And shed tears!
45:	҆и помислѝ за стрáшни сꙋдь бж҃їи	And think about the terrible judgement of the God!
46:	҆á не подноси се на големо	And do not take yourself for great!
47:	защо животь чл҃векꙋ лесно дотрайва	Because the human life easily ends.
48:	паки ре́че ст҃и ҆и҆ѡань злáтоꙋсть	St. John Chrysostom also said:
49:	҆ѡ чл҃вече бж҃їи, такви́ва дꙋми ҆и цр҃ꙋ речѝ	O man of God, say such words even to a king!
50:	не бо́й се ѿ неговь венець црк͒и и ѿ хꙋ́бави преме́ни него́ви	Have no fear from his kingly wreath and nice clothes!
51:	защо тáко ре́че божестве́ное писáнїе	For thus says the divine Scripture.
52:	васáка слáва чл҃веческа като трáва ҆и като цве́ть ҆и като росà ꙋтренꙗ	All the glory of humans (is) like grass, and like a flower, and like the morning dew.
53:	но тѝ високоꙋмни чл҃вече пощо се тол͛ко подно́сишь	But you, o haughty man, why do you take yourself for so great?
54:	пощо́ се тол͛ко величáешь	Why do you proclaim yourself so great?
55:	ти́ ли си сотвориль нб҃о ҆и землю	Did you create the heavens and the earth?
56:	҆ꙗ́ паднѝ ѿ ви́со́ко место на земи	Fall from a high place to the ground!
57:	нали хочешь да се ꙋби́ешь	Would you not kill yourself?
58:	смисли сь́га свою̀ немощь каква е би́ла крат͛ка	Think of your weakness, how short it has been!
59:	҆á не дль́ги живо́ть	And (it was not?) a long life!
60:	по́ добре би́ ти било̀ да ти заповедꙋ́еть дрꙋги	It would be better for you, if another would command you,
	не́гли ти́ да заповедꙋ́҆ешь дрꙋ́гомꙋ	than that you would command another one.
61:	коꙗ файда ҆имашь да си; наче́лникь дрꙋгомꙋ	What advantage do you have, when you are a chief to another one?
62:	но самь себе да си слꙋгꙋвашь	But serve yourself!
63:	҆и помислѝ за грехь сво́й	And think of your sin!
64:	тогива се нари́чашь како̀ продáни ро́бь	Then you are named as a sold slave!
65:	коꙗ е пофала чл҃векꙋ	What praise is for a human?
66:	да ѐ господи́нь ҆и начельникь	To be a lord and chief?
67:	҆и после да го̀ би́ють него́ви рáби ҆и слꙋги	And then, to be beaten by slaves and servants?
68:	коги́ е чл҃векь ѡсꙋжде́нь и бить ҆и ꙋко́рень	If a man is convicted, and beaten, and humbled,
	какво смее да заповедꙋ́еть надь мло́го лю́дие	how can he command over many people?
69:	ѡ͒ безꙋмни чл҃вече дш҃а твоꙗ̀ би́ена ҆и сакрꙋшена	O mindless man, your soul (is) beaten and broken!
70:	҆и по свꙋде ҆има рáни ѿ гре́хове(и) тво́й	And it has wounds from your sins everywhere.
71:	҆á тѝ тол͛ко се подно́сишь че ймашь тол͛ко мло́го жльтици ҆ѡка҆ꙗ́не	And you boast so much, that you have a lot of golden coins, you wretch!
72:	ѝ їмашь мло́го слꙋги	And (you boast that) you have a lot of servants.
73:	нь тиꙗ слꙋги не сꙋ̀ тво̀й	But those servants are not yours!
74:	҆áко ме́не не ве́рꙋешь смотрѝ по пре́жни те богáти людие	If you don't believe me, look at earlier rich people!
75:	҆и наꙋчѝ се	And learn!
76:	҆áко ли ҆и ѿ нихь не ще́шь се наꙋчи́ти ҆á ти поче́каи мало	If you will not even from them learn (something), wait shortly!
77:	и сам хочешь виде́ти	And you will see for yourself.
78:	тоги́ва ни еднà помощ не ще́шь да ймашь ѿ сꙋетно богатьство̀ когѝ фáнешь да бе́решь дш҃ꙋ	When you start to take (?) soul, you will have no help from your wealth.
79:	тоги́ва ни единь [чась] не можешь бити да го́сподарꙋ́вашь
80:	тоги́ва ҆и не(и) сáкашь; да ви́дишь своѐ богат͛ство ели́ е мло́го ҆или е мал͛ко	Then you will not even want to see your wealth, be it big or small.
81:	҆á не знаеш лѝ чл҃вече че ҆имане е като сáж͛ди ҆и прах ҆и пе́пель ҆и като слáма ҆и сено	And don't you know, o man, that wealth is like soot, and dust, and ash, and like hay?
82:	толи́ка е ҆и чл҃веческа си́ла	So big is the human power.
83:	҆и не мо́жешь да познáешь себе че сѝ ҆и ти тáковь	And you cannot know, that you are such, too!
84:	нело се подно́сишь са͒ хꙋбави преме́ни ҆и сáсь мло́го ҆имáне	Because you brag about with nice clothes and a lot of wealth!
85:	҆á ютре ҆и ти ꙋми́рашь като ҆и ѡнїꙗ чл҃веци щото сꙋ̀ сиромáси	And tomorrow, you (are going to) die, as those people, who are poor.
86:	҆имане като на сь́нь бивáеть коги сьнꙋвашь но́щемь че сѝ станꙋль цр҃овь намесникь	Wealth is often like in a dream, when you dream in the night, that you had become a royal official.
87:	҆и коги се разбꙋ́дишь ҆á ти си, пáки чл҃век каквото си́ би́ль	And when you wake up, you are again a human, as you were before.
88:	тако е͒ ҆и млого ҆имáне по прáвдꙋ ҆и по йстинꙋ	Such is the wealth by justice and truth.
89:	ско́ро хочет виде́ти тако́ви богáть с́вое ҆имане какво̀ све хо́че да ѡстане на то̀ꙗ ст҃ь	Such a rich one will soon see his wealth (in a way), that all will remain in this world.
90:	҆á чл҃векꙋ те́ло чрьв҆ꙗ́ ҆изи́даю	And the worms eat the body of a human.
91:	҆и нищо не мо́же да ꙋзме ѿ свое то ҆имане	And he cannot take anything from his wealth.
92:	тькмо гре́хь бре́ме те́шко	Only sin - the heavy burden.
93:	тьк͛мо по правдꙋ ҆и по ҆истинꙋ	Only (sin) - by justice and truth.
94:	тáко ре́коша цр҃ко́вни нáши ꙋчите́ле,	Thus spoke our Church Fathers.
95:	смире́нь чл҃векь ҆и кро́токь ѿ свꙋде ҆имать пофáла ҆и ѿ бг҃а ҆и ѿ чл҃веци,	A humble and meek man has praise from everywhere - from both God and humans.
96:	хꙋбáва преме́на е чл҃векꙋ мꙋдра глáва ҆и смире́но срдце	Nice clothes for a human are a wise head and a humble heart.
97:	смире́наго чл҃века све́ки милꙋва	Everyone loves a humble man.
98:	҆и бг҃ь мꙋ помáга	And God helps him.
99:	҆и гре́хь мꙋ бг҃ь ҆ѡпроще́ва	And God forgives his sin.
100:	тькмо враг не лю́би смире́наго члве́ка	Only the Enemy does not love the humble man.
101:	що пи́ше ꙋ ст҃ое писáнїе	As it is written in the Holy Scripture:
102:	ѿ големиню̀ ҆и ѿ висо́коꙋмие ни́що по зло дрꙋ́го не́ ма на то҆ꙗ́ ст҃ь	There is nothing worse in this world than pride and arrogance.
103:	защо̀ ꙋ пре́жно вре́ме беше [единь] анг҃гель	Because there was an angel in previous times.
104:	҆и поче да се голе́ми	And he began to be arrogant.
105:	҆и стáнꙋ диӑволь	And he became the Devil.
106:	҆и бе́ше ст҃ь	And he was saint.
107:	по́сле стáнꙋ тмà ҆и помрáчень	Then he became darkness and clouded.
108:	то́й и адама ҆измами	It was he, who deceived Adam.
109:	҆и рече мꙋ	And he said to him:
110:	҆áдаме ти щеше да стáнешь бг҃ь	ʺO Adam, you would have become a god.ʺ
111:	҆и адáмь тогива поче да се вели́чи	Then Adam began to make himself important.
112:	престꙋпи заповедь бж҃ї	(And) he transgressed against the law of God.
113:	҆и ѿпаде(и) ѿ слáвꙋ бж҃ию	And he fell from the glory of God.
114:	защо, врáгь знáеше че беше ҆áдамь бесамрьтень	Because the enemy knew, that Adam was immortal.
115:	҆и коги ѿпаде ѿ славꙋ бж҃ию тоги́ва почѐ него́во рожде́нїе да ꙋми́ра	And when he fell from the glory of God, then his kin began to die.
116:	тáко ҆и бл҃же́наго иѡва врáгь возненавидѐ	Thus the Enemy also began to hate blessed Job.
117:	҆и ѡборѝ до́мь негов	And he destroyed (?) his house.
118:	҆и по све́ то мꙋ тело рáни напрáви	And he made him wounds all over the body
119:	похракá го диӑволь	The Devil scrubbed (?) him.
120:	҆и прочꙋ се него́во дльго трьпенїе по свꙋ зе́млю	And his long suffering became known all over the land.
121:	защо диаво̆ль него́ви чеда погꙋбѝ	Because Devil killed his children.
122:	҆и богатьство него́во доврьшѝ	And he ended his wealth.
123:	҆и тело мꙋ ҆изьгно́й	And he made his body full of pus.
124:	҆и жи́ваго чрьвꙗ ҆изедоша	And worms ate him alive.
125:	҆и настави диӑволь женꙋ̀ ҆иѡвинꙋ на лошь пáметь да досáди ҆иѡвꙋ мꙋжꙋ своемꙋ	And Devil incited the wife of Job to bad thoughts to annoy Job,
	дано би не́що похꙋли́ль на бг҃а	so that he would blaspheme against God,
	да го бг҃ь возненави́ди да ѿпáдне ѿ главꙋ бж҃їю	so that God would begin to hate him, to make him fall from glory of God.
126:	да не бе́ше билà милос͒ бж҃їа на нáсь све бѝ врáгь ҆ѡть́внꙋль; ѿ нась	If there was no mercy of God, Devil would tear everyone away from us (?)
127:	҆и сьвь ст҃ь би погꙋби́ль	And he would destroy the whole world.
128:	таковꙗ е͒ зль ҆и лю́ть зве́рь ҆и проклеть ди҆áволь	Such an evil, and fierce, and accursed beast is the Devil.
129:	҆и не ҆имать насищенїе зло да тво́ри	And he is never satisfied in doing evil.
130:	затовà бг҃ь не дáде д҆ꙗ́волꙋ да йма волю на свѐ	That is why God did not give Devil (lit. to have) the power over everything.
131:	тáко бг҃ь сотворѝ мл͒ть ҆и чл҃веколюбїе †	Thus God did mercy and love of humans.
132:	томꙋ же слáва ҆и чт͒ь ҆и поклоне́нїе	And to him (we give) glory and honor and respect,
	безначáл͛номꙋ ҆о́ц҃ꙋ со еди́нородни́мь тво́ймь си́номь	to unbegotten Father, with Your Single-Born Son,
	҆и прест҃им ҆и бл҃гимь ҆и животворе́щимь твоймь; дх҃омь	and Your Most Holy and Good and Life-Giving Spirit,
	ны́нѣ ҆и присно ҆и во ве́ки веков;	now and ever and forever!
