1:	[===] Blágoslovéni xrístiăni poslušaite kakvò zapovedúetь námь st̃i ʾiwʾánь zlátoustь za xr͒tiăni	[Foreword] O blessed Christians, listen to what St. John Chrysostom tells Christians to do!
2:	kakvo ne podobáetь xr͒tianinu da bude tafraџïa ʾi kavgaџïa ʾi visokoumen	[Foreword] How it is inappropriate for a Christian to be a braggart and conflicting and haughty.
3:	Réče [♣] bl̃žéni ïwánь zlátoʾustь	Blessed John Chrysostom said:
4:	ʾw čl͂veče, bž͂ïi kogí sákašь vìsokoʾumnago čl̃véka da ukrótišь ne déi go mlógo učíti	O man of God, when you want to tame a haughty man, do not teach him a lot!
5:	no mal͛ko mu prodúmai nékoja réčь mudra ʾi ïzbrana	But tell him a bit of wise and chosen words.
6:	ta mu réči	So tell him:
7:	prinesí mu na pamet čl͂večeska síla ʾi némoštь	Bring to his mind human strength and weakness!
8:	ʾáko tí poslúša duma ta ʾá ti páki rečí mu	If he listens to your word, then tell him:
9:	ʾw čl̃véče počtó tolíko voznosíš(i) se	ʺO man, why do you brag about so much?ʺ
10:	ʾi pošto tol͛ko tafrá čínišь	ʺO man, why do you show so much arrogance,ʺ
	ʾi (di)gaši se na golémo kato dívь	ʺand raise yourself to heights as a wild one?ʺ
11:	ta ne vi;diš li če sì ʾi tì čl͂vekь kato ʾi niè	ʺAnd so you cannot see, that you are a human as we are?ʺ
12:	ʾi tí si zemljá ʾi pepélь kató ʾi svéki- čl͂vekь	ʺYou are, too, earth and ash, as every man!ʺ
13:	zašto ni [bg͂ь] sozdáde wt zémlju	Because God created us from the earth.
14:	ʾi ne móže visókoumenь čl̃vekь da poznáe sebé če e ʾi wnь zemljà ʾi pepelь	And a haughty man cannot know himself, that he is earth and ash too.
15:	nelo sè wbzíra na svóĭ xubavi preméni	Because he looks on his beautiful clothes.
16:	ʾi natafril͛ se	And he has decorated himself
17:	ʾi na golémo xódi ʾi slavenь na lьžóvna pofála	And he walks as a great one, a glorious one, (following?) false praise.
18:	ʾi kogi ʾimь stojútь; slugi na nóze na trь´pezu ʾi nímь ʾwšte po dràgo ʾide	And when servants stay for them by their feet at the table, they feel (lit. it goes) even more precious.
19:	ʾi počnutь da se šeguvat sásь níxь	And they begin to make fun of them.
20:	ʾi smejut͛ se	And they laugh.
21:	ʾi dumatь svekakvi ne potrébni dúmi	And they speak many inappropriate words.
22:	ʾi po tovà ne može da poznae čl͂vekь kakvó šte da promíne ná tʾoja st̃ь	And afterwards a man cannot know, how (?) will he pass into that world.
23:	ʾá zašto né ĭde na gróbišta	But why does he not go to a cemetery,
	da vídi kakvó su gróbove plь´ni sasь. kósti čl͂véčeski smrьdlívi	to see, how the graves are full of stinking human bones?
24:	ʾi ne može trьpéti tol͛kova smrádь	And he cannot (would not?) stand so much stench.
25:	nelo sè wbzíra na xúbavi premeni mlogocenï	Because he looks on his beautiful, precious clothes.
26:	ʾi paki da vì rečémь	And let me tell you again:
27:	ne poznaváte li sebe če stè zemljà ʾi pépelь	Don't you know yourself, that you are earth and ash?
28:	ʾi smrьdlìvo; telo ne poznávate li slàboe	And you know not the stinking, weak body?
29:	ʾi kràtko e čl͂véčeski živótь	And the human life is short.
30:	ne nadàĭte se kogá priblíži samrь´tь	Have no hope, when the death comes closer!
31:	togíva da sè pokaete	Then, you should repent.
32:	zaštò togíva ne móžešь da poznaeš kakvo lésno prïĭde samrьtь	Because then, you will not be able to know, how easily death comes.
33:	zašto e človékь zemljà ʾi pepelь	Because human is earth and ash.
34:	ʾi ne može da vídi strášni ʾang̃geli	And he cannot see the terrible angels,
	kakvo slázutь wt nbs͂a	as they descend from the heavens,
	da mu zabíju sluxь	to crush his hearing,
	da se ne pamti	so that he would not remember,
	na kóĭ e st̃ь	on which world he is.
35:	no páki tégli	But still he draws (the hearing?)
36:	ʾi mísli dà ĭde na nébo	And he thinks, that he goes to the heavens.
37:	no razuméĭte xr͒tiăni	But do understand, o Christians!
38:	po samrьtь ne ma pokaʾjánïe	There is no repentance after the death!
39:	kogì ʾidešь na ʾwnja st̃ь tamo ʾi da davaš srebro ʾili zláto da se ʾwprávišь, prédь bg̃a	When you go to the other world, you may (want to?) give there even silver or gold, to buy yourself out from God.
40:	ʾili dá se pokáešь tamo	Or you may (want to?) repent there.
41:	né ma kóĭ da uzme srebro ʾi zlàto da te wtduma prédь bg̃a	(But) there is no one to take silver and gold from you, to defend you in front of God.
42:	nelo dogde sì žívь na tója suetni st̃ь pokăi se	So, repent, as long as you are alive in this vain world!
43:	ʾi pomolí se bg̃u	And pray to God!
44:	ʾi proslьzí se	And shed tears!
45:	ʾi pomislì za strášni sudь bž̃ïi	And think about the terrible judgement of the God!
46:	ʾá ne podnosi se na golemo	And do not take yourself for great!
47:	zašto životь čl̃veku lesno dotraĭva	Because the human life easily ends.
48:	paki réče st̃i ʾiʾwanь zlátoustь	St. John Chrysostom also said:
49:	ʾw čl̃veče bž̃ïi, takvíva dumi ʾi cr̃u rečì	O man of God, say such words even to a king!
50:	ne bóĭ se wt negovь venecь crk͒i i wt xúbavi preméni negóvi	Have no fear from his kingly wreath and nice clothes!
51:	zašto táko réče božestvénoe pisánïe	For thus says the divine Scripture.
52:	vasáka sláva čl̃večeska kato tráva ʾi kato cvétь ʾi kato rosà utrenja	All the glory of humans (is) like grass, and like a flower, and like the morning dew.
53:	no tì visokoumni čl͂veče pošto se tol͛ko podnósišь	But you, o haughty man, why do you take yourself for so great?
54:	poštó se tol͛ko veličáešь	Why do you proclaim yourself so great?
55:	tí li si sotvorilь nb̃o ʾi zemlju	Did you create the heavens and the earth?
56:	ʾjá padnì wt vísóko mesto na zemi	Fall from a high place to the ground!
57:	nali xočešь da se ubíešь	Would you not kill yourself?
58:	smisli sь´ga svojù nemoštь kakva e bíla krat͛ka	Think of your weakness, how short it has been!
59:	ʾá ne dlь´gi živótь	And (it was not?) a long life!
60:	pó dobre bí ti bilò da ti zapovedúetь drugi	It would be better for you, if another would command you,
	négli tí da zapovedúʾešь drúgomu	than that you would command another one.
61:	koja faĭda ʾimašь da si; načélnikь drugomu	What advantage do you have, when you are a chief to another one?
62:	no samь sebe da si sluguvašь	But serve yourself!
63:	ʾi pomislì za grexь svóĭ	And think of your sin!
64:	togiva se naríčašь kakò prodáni róbь	Then you are named as a sold slave!
65:	koja e pofala čl̃veku	What praise is for a human?
66:	da è gospodínь ʾi načelьnikь	To be a lord and chief?
67:	ʾi posle da gò bíjutь negóvi rábi ʾi slugi	And then, to be beaten by slaves and servants?
68:	kogí e čl̃vekь wsuždénь i bitь ʾi ukórenь	If a man is convicted, and beaten, and humbled,
	kakvo smee da zapovedúetь nadь mlógo ljúdie	how can he command over many people?
69:	w͒ bezumni čl̃veče dš̃a tvojà bíena ʾi sakrušena	O mindless man, your soul (is) beaten and broken!
70:	ʾi po svude ʾima ráni wt gréxove(i) tvóĭ	And it has wounds from your sins everywhere.
71:	ʾá tì tol͛ko se podnósišь če ĭmašь tol͛ko mlógo žlьtici ʾwkaʾjáne	And you boast so much, that you have a lot of golden coins, you wretch!
72:	ì ïmašь mlógo slugi	And (you boast that) you have a lot of servants.
73:	nь tija slugi ne sù tvòĭ	But those servants are not yours!
74:	ʾáko méne ne véruešь smotrì po préžni te bogáti ljudie	If you don't believe me, look at earlier rich people!
75:	ʾi naučì se	And learn!
76:	ʾáko li ʾi wt nixь ne štéšь se naučíti ʾá ti počékai malo	If you will not even from them learn (something), wait shortly!
77:	i sam xočešь vidéti	And you will see for yourself.
78:	togíva ni ednà pomošt ne štéšь da ĭmašь wt suetno bogatьstvò kogì fánešь da bérešь dš̃u	When you start to take (?) soul, you will have no help from your wealth.
79:	togíva ni edinь [časь] ne možešь biti da góspodarúvašь
80:	togíva ʾi ne(i) sákašь; da vídišь svoè bogat͛stvo elí e mlógo ʾili e mal͛ko	Then you will not even want to see your wealth, be it big or small.
81:	ʾá ne znaeš lì čl̃veče če ʾimane e kato sáž͛di ʾi prax ʾi pépelь ʾi kato sláma ʾi seno	And don't you know, o man, that wealth is like soot, and dust, and ash, and like hay?
82:	tolíka e ʾi čl͂večeska síla	So big is the human power.
83:	ʾi ne móžešь da poznáešь sebe če sì ʾi ti tákovь	And you cannot know, that you are such, too!
84:	nelo se podnósišь sa͒ xubavi preméni ʾi sásь mlógo ʾimáne	Because you brag about with nice clothes and a lot of wealth!
85:	ʾá jutre ʾi ti umírašь kato ʾi wnïja čl͂veci štoto sù siromási	And tomorrow, you (are going to) die, as those people, who are poor.
86:	ʾimane kato na sь´nь biváetь kogi sьnuvašь nóštemь če sì stanulь cr͂ovь namesnikь	Wealth is often like in a dream, when you dream in the night, that you had become a royal official.
87:	ʾi kogi se razbúdišь ʾá ti si, páki čl͂vek kakvoto sí bílь	And when you wake up, you are again a human, as you were before.
88:	tako e͒ ʾi mlogo ʾimáne po právdu ʾi po ĭstinu	Such is the wealth by justice and truth.
89:	skóro xočet vidéti takóvi bogátь s´voe ʾimane kakvò sve xóče da wstane na tòja st̃ь	Such a rich one will soon see his wealth (in a way), that all will remain in this world.
90:	ʾá čl̃veku télo črьvʾjá ʾizídaju	And the worms eat the body of a human.
91:	ʾi ništo ne móže da uzme wt svoe to ʾimane	And he cannot take anything from his wealth.
92:	tьkmo gréxь bréme téško	Only sin - the heavy burden.
93:	tьk͛mo po pravdu ʾi po ʾistinu	Only (sin) - by justice and truth.
94:	táko rékoša cr͂kóvni náši učitéle,	Thus spoke our Church Fathers.
95:	smirénь čl̃vekь ʾi krótokь wt svude ʾimatь pofála ʾi wt bg̃a ʾi wt čl͂veci,	A humble and meek man has praise from everywhere - from both God and humans.
96:	xubáva preména e čl͂veku mudra gláva ʾi smiréno srdce	Nice clothes for a human are a wise head and a humble heart.
97:	smirénago čl͂veka svéki miluva	Everyone loves a humble man.
98:	ʾi bg̃ь mu pomága	And God helps him.
99:	ʾi gréxь mu bg̃ь ʾwproštéva	And God forgives his sin.
100:	tьkmo vrag ne ljúbi smirénago člvéka	Only the Enemy does not love the humble man.
101:	što píše u st̃oe pisánïe	As it is written in the Holy Scripture:
102:	wt goleminjù ʾi wt visókoumie níšto po zlo drúgo né ma na toʾjá st̃ь	There is nothing worse in this world than pride and arrogance.
103:	zaštò u préžno vréme beše [edinь] ang͂gelь	Because there was an angel in previous times.
104:	ʾi poče da se golémi	And he began to be arrogant.
105:	ʾi stánu diăvolь	And he became the Devil.
106:	ʾi béše st̃ь	And he was saint.
107:	pósle stánu tmà ʾi pomráčenь	Then he became darkness and clouded.
108:	tóĭ i adama ʾizmami	It was he, who deceived Adam.
109:	ʾi reče mu	And he said to him:
110:	ʾádame ti šteše da stánešь bg̃ь	ʺO Adam, you would have become a god.ʺ
111:	ʾi adámь togiva poče da se velíči	Then Adam began to make himself important.
112:	prestupi zapovedь bž̃ï	(And) he transgressed against the law of God.
113:	ʾi wtpade(i) wt slávu bž̃iju	And he fell from the glory of God.
114:	zašto, vrágь znáeše če beše ʾádamь besamrьtenь	Because the enemy knew, that Adam was immortal.
115:	ʾi kogi wtpade wt slavu bž̃iju togíva počè negóvo roždénïe da umíra	And when he fell from the glory of God, then his kin began to die.
116:	táko ʾi bl͂žénago iwva vrágь voznenavidè	Thus the Enemy also began to hate blessed Job.
117:	ʾi wborì dómь negov	And he destroyed (?) his house.
118:	ʾi po své to mu telo ráni naprávi	And he made him wounds all over the body
119:	poxraká go diăvolь	The Devil scrubbed (?) him.
120:	ʾi proču se negóvo dlьgo trьpenïe po svu zémlju	And his long suffering became known all over the land.
121:	zašto diavŏlь negóvi čeda pogubì	Because Devil killed his children.
122:	ʾi bogatьstvo negóvo dovrьšì	And he ended his wealth.
123:	ʾi telo mu ʾizьgnóĭ	And he made his body full of pus.
124:	ʾi žívago črьvja ʾizedoša	And worms ate him alive.
125:	ʾi nastavi diăvolь ženù ʾiwvinu na lošь pámetь da dosádi ʾiwvu mužu svoemu	And Devil incited the wife of Job to bad thoughts to annoy Job,
	dano bi néšto poxulílь na bg̃a	so that he would blaspheme against God,
	da go bg͂ь voznenavídi da wtpádne wt glavu bž͂ïju	so that God would begin to hate him, to make him fall from glory of God.
126:	da ne béše bilà milos͒ bž̃ïa na násь sve bì vrágь ʾwtь´vnulь; wt nasь	If there was no mercy of God, Devil would tear everyone away from us (?)
127:	ʾi sьvь st̃ь bi pogubílь	And he would destroy the whole world.
128:	takovja e͒ zlь ʾi ljútь zvérь ʾi prokletь diʾávolь	Such an evil, and fierce, and accursed beast is the Devil.
129:	ʾi ne ʾimatь nasištenïe zlo da tvóri	And he is never satisfied in doing evil.
130:	zatovà bg̃ь ne dáde dʾjávolu da ĭma volju na svè	That is why God did not give Devil (lit. to have) the power over everything.
131:	táko bg̃ь sotvorì ml͒tь ʾi čl̃vekoljubïe †	Thus God did mercy and love of humans.
132:	tomu že sláva ʾi čt͒ь ʾi poklonénïe	And to him (we give) glory and honor and respect,
	beznačál͛nomu ʾóc͂u so edínorodnímь tvóĭmь sínomь	to unbegotten Father, with Your Single-Born Son,
	ʾi prest̃im ʾi bl̃gimь ʾi životvoréštimь tvoĭmь; dx͂omь	and Your Most Holy and Good and Life-Giving Spirit,
	nýně ʾi prisno ʾi vo véki vekov;	now and ever and forever!
