3: | blgorodni i dostopočeteni i xristoljubivi xrtiani bratii moi vozljubleni poslušaite za dneši dnъ | O noble, and respect-worthy, and Christ-loving Christians, my dear brothers, listen (to the homily) for this day! |
4: | da vi skažemo da razumete kakvo se porodi gdъ našъ isъ xrtosъ | Let us tell you, so that you understand, how our Lord Jesus Christ was born. |
5: | reče gdъ arъxanъgelu gavriilu | The Lord said to Archangel Gabriel: |
6: | idi anъgele reči prekrasnomu ioˇsifu da ide u gradъ nazaretъ za dvicu mariju | ʺGo, o angel, (and) tell the handsome Joseph to go the city of Nazareth for Virgin Mary!ʺ |
7: | ja povelexъ da ju uzme onъ | ʺI gave the command to him to take her.ʺ |
8: | i xoče da se nareče maria dvica ioˇsifu obručnica | ʺAnd Virgin Mary will be called the Bride of Joseph.ʺ |
9: | tako povele bgъ | Thus God commanded. |
10: | i prominaxu nekoliko dni | And some days passed. |
11: | i otide iosifъ | And Joseph went away. |
12: | i vide mariju devicu | And he saw Virgin Mary. |
13: | i doide mu na pamet kato ju gledaše če e ošte mlado dete marija | And as he watched her, it came to his mind, that Mary is still a young child. |
14: | a ioˇsifъ beše blgorazumenъ i pravedenъ i bgubojazlivъ | And Joseph was a prudent, and just, and a God-fearing man. |
15: | ta ne šteja da obadi nikomu če go e pratilъ bgъ za devicu mariju da ju uzme za ženu sebe | So he did not want to tell anybody that God had sent him to take Virgin Mary for a wife. |
16: | no pomisli da ju napušti | But he thought to leave her. |
17: | i va onaę noštъ tova onъ pomisli | And thus he thought in that night. |
18: | i javi mu se angelъ gdnъ gavriilъ | And Gabriel, the angel of God, appeared to him. |
19: | i reče mu | |
20: | ioˇosife snu dvidovъ ot ništo da se ne uplašišъ | ʺO Joseph, son of David, may you have no fear from anything.ʺ |
21: | nelo fani mariju ženu tvoju za ruku | ʺJust take your wife Mary by the hand!ʺ |
22: | i upazi ju | ʺAnd protect her!ʺ |
23: | i tova štoto ima maria u korъmъ svoi tova e začela ot dxa stago | ʺAnd that, what Mary has in her bosom, she had conceived by Holy Spirit.ʺ |
24: | i šte da rodi sina | ʺAnd she will give a birth to a son.ʺ |
25: | a ti mu nareči ime iisъ | ʺAnd you give him the name Jesus!ʺ |
26: | zašto onъ xoče da spi sъvъ rodъ člvečeski ot pregrešenie | ʺBecause he will save all the human race from sin.ʺ |
27: | i kogi stanu iosifъ onъ pomisli | And when Joseph woke up, he thought. |
28: | i sotvori kakvoto mu reče anъgelъ | And he did, as the angel said to him. |
29: | i vъ onova vreme izleze povelenie ot cra avgusta da se podpisva sveki člvekъ podъ crevu ruku | And in that time, a command came from Emperor Augustus, for every man under the Emperor's hand, to subscribe, |
i da znae crъ koi kakvъ e člvekъ i sveki da e zapisanъ u crska kniga | and so that the Emperor knows, what kind of man everyone is, everyone to be written in the imperial accounts. | |
30: | i zašto razbra crъ če xoče da se porodi crъ velikъ ot dvicu mariju | And (it was done so?) because the Emperor understood, that a great king was going to be born from Virgin Mary. |
31: | ta se boeše crъ da mu ne preuzme crъstvo | Thus the Emperor feared, that he would take over his domain. |
32: | to zatova sakaše da prepiše svi te člveci u negova kniga | And that is why he wanted to write down all the people in his accounts, |
i da znae komu kakvo e ime | and to know, how is everyone called. | |
33: | doide redъ i do iosifa da se piše i oˇnъ | And it was, then, Joseph's turn to subscribe himself. |
34: | i pisa se | And he wrote himself. |
35: | iosifъ beše ot crъ davidovъ rodъ | Joseph was from the house of King David. |
36: | i kogi se napisaxu doide vreme da rodi dvica maria xrta | And as they were writing themselves, the time had come for Virgin Mary to give birth. |
37: | i bgъ zaprati angela | And God sent an angel. |
38: | ta reče | And he said: |
39: | ioˇsife idi uzmi ženu tvoju mariju | ʺO Joseph, go (and) take your wife, Mary!ʺ |
40: | i beži u viѳleemъ | ʺAnd flee to Bethlehem!ʺ |
41: | i onъ ju fanu za ruku | And he took her by the hand. |
42: | i pobeže daleko kato da go ne naidutъ | And he ran far away, so that he will not be found. |
43: | i ulezoxu u edna peštera | And they entered a cave. |
44: | i tamo rodi prečtaja bca gda našego issa xrta | And there, the Most Pure Mother of God gave birth to our Lord Jesus Christ. |
45: | i kato čueše staja bdca takviva dumi ot cra ona se boeše za xrta sina svoego | And as the holy Mother of God heard such words (?) from the Emperor (?), she feared for the Christ, her son. |
46: | i opovi go u peleni | And she wrapped him in diapers. |
47: | i položi go u jasli | And she put him into a cradle. |
48: | ta go skri | And thus she hid him. |
49: | zašto u onaja peštera beše mesto široko | Because there was a wide place in the cave. |
50: | ta doxodexu putnici | And so travellers were coming. |
51: | ta bexu napraveni jasli | And thus a cradle was made. |
52: | ta si privezvaxu koni ili volove ili mъski ili bilo što | And thus they were binding on (it) horses, or oxen, or mules, or whatever (they had). |
53: | ta tamo skri staja bdca xrta u jasli te predъ volove | And there the holy Mother of God hid the Christ in the cradle in front of the oxen. |
54: | i pastirie imaše tamo blizo pri onaja peštera | And shepherds were there, close to that cave. |
55: | i svirexu na svoe stado | And they were whistling on their flock. |
56: | i edinъ pastirъ ot nixъ vide svetlosъ veliku vъ pešteru | And one of the shepherds saw the great light in the cave. |
57: | i uplaši se | And he became afraid. |
58: | doide anggelъ gdnъ pri nixъ | An angel of God came to them. |
59: | i reče imъ | And he said to them: |
60: | ne boite se | ʺHave no fear!ʺ |
61: | dumamъ vamъ | ʺI say to you:ʺ |
62: | tuka xoče radosъ golema da bude | ʺThere will be great joy here.ʺ |
63: | idete u pešteru | ʺGo to the cave!ʺ |
64: | i nai štete tamo stuju bdcu | ʺAnd you will find there the holy Mother of God.ʺ |
65: | i vide štete kakvo poviva xrta mldnca svoego u peleni | ʺAnd you will see, how she wraps the Christ, her son, in diapers.ʺ |
66: | i da čuete tamo kakvo pejutъ anъgeli | ʺAnd you (will?) hear, how the angels sing there:ʺ |
67: | slava va višnixъ bgu | ʺGlory (be) to God in the highest!ʺ |
68: | i na zemli mirъ | ʺAnd peace (be) on the Earth!ʺ |
69: | va člvecexъ blgovolenie | ʺGood will (be) in the people!ʺ |
70: | i pastire te kato čuxu toja glasъ otidoxu tamo u pešteru | And as the shepherds heard the voice, they went there, into that cave. |
71: | i naidoxu kakvo imъ skaza anggelъ | And they found, what the angel said to them. |
72: | i va dni iroda cra doidoxu drugi tri crove pri nego xitъrъci ot istokъ | And in the days of King Herod, other, three kings came to him, mages (lit. wise ones) from the East. |
73: | doidoxu u ierusalimъ | They came to Jerusalem. |
74: | i pitaxu | And they asked: |
75: | gde xoče da se rodi crъ ijudeiski | ʺWhere will be born the King of Jews?ʺ |
76: | zašto vidoxъme zvezda na istokъ | ʺBecause we saw a star in the East.ʺ |
77: | i sakame da ideme pri nego da mu se poklonimo | ʺAnd we want to go to him, to pay respect to him.ʺ |
78: | kato ču crъ irodъ taja duma uplaši se | As King Herod heard that word, he became afraid. |
79: | i prizova načelni člveci vladici i knižnici i popove | And he called for leading people - bishops, and learned men, and priests. |
80: | i pita gi gde piše pisanie da se rodi xrtosъ crъ | And he asked them, where the Scripture writes, that the Christ-King will be born. |
81: | i oni mu rekoše | And they said to him: |
82: | prorokъ mixeja reče | ʺProphet Micah said:ʺ |
83: | vъ viѳleemъ xoče da se rodi xrtosъ | ʺThe Christ will be born in Bethlehem.ʺ |
84: | togiva crъ irodъ potaino prizova onię tri crie xitъrъci | Then King Herod secretly summoned those three mage-kings. |
85: | i reče imъ | And he said to them: |
86: | idete | ʺGo!ʺ |
87: | i pitaite gde se e rodilъ xrtosъ | ʺAnd ask, where the Christ has been born,ʺ |
i nija da idemo pri nego da mu se poklonimo | ʺso that we, too, go to him, to pay respect.ʺ | |
88: | i kogi go naidete doidete | ʺAnd when you find home, come (back)!ʺ |
89: | ta mi kažete da idemъ i ja da mu se poklonimъ | ʺAnd tell me, so that I, too, go to pay respect to him!ʺ |
90: | tova produma pogani irodъ | Thus spoke the heathen-mannered Herod. |
91: | onъ ne šteše da mu se pokloni | He was not going to pay respect to him. |
92: | no misleše da pušti źli zlomislъnici da ubijutъ xrta | But he thought about releasing evil evil-thinkers to kill the Christ. |
93: | če se boeše da mu ne preuzme crtvo to onъ da cruva | For he feared, that he (could) take his kingdom, to rule. |
94: | togiva onija tri carove xitri izlezoxu ot ierlimъ | Then those three wise kings left Jerusalem. |
95: | i otidoxu gdeto stanu źvezda ta u viѳleemъ nadъ otroče to u pešteru tu | And they went, where the star stood in Bethlehem over the child in the cave. |
96: | i naidoxu gde se e rodilъ xrtosъ | And they found, where the Christ was born. |
97: | togiva onię crove otvorixu kovъčezi | Then those kings opened their stashes. |
98: | ta izvadixu darove štoto nosexu da poklonutъ xrtu tija tri crove | Then, those three kings took out gifts to grant them to the Christ. |
99: | edinъ crъ pokloni stei bdci zlato | One king gave gold to the holy Mother of God. |
100: | a drugi pokloni livanъ | And another gave thyme. |
101: | a treti izmirъnu | And the third (gave) myrrh. |
102: | angelъ gdnъ reče na crove te | An angel of God said to the kings: |
103: | da ne idete pri cra iroda | ʺDo not go to King Herod!ʺ |
104: | nъ si idete po svoi putъ | ʺBut go by your own way!ʺ |
105: | i oni se povrъnaxu po drugi putъ | And they returned by another way. |
106: | i otidoxu si va svoju drъžavu | And they went away to their own country. |
107: | i proslavixu ime xrtovo po svu zemlju | And they praised the name of the Christ all over the Earth. |
108: | togiva onija xitri crie ot gde razumexu če xoče da se rodi xrtosъ | Then, from where did those wise kings understand, that the Christ was going to be born? |
109: | nikakvo ne imaše posoka | There was no sign (for them). |
110: | no paki sam si bgъ pokaza | But still, God Himself showed (a sign). |
111: | iavi zvezdu svetlivu štoto ju nija zovemo denica | He made the star appear, which we call Morning Star. |
112: | ona prosvete | It began to shine. |
113: | i onię xitъrci se setixu če xoče da se rodi crъ nadi sъvъ stъ | And those wise men understood, that a king of all the world will be born. |
114: | zašto ne sti taę zvezda sъga u naši te dni zločesti | (And) why does not the star shine now, in our evil days, |
kato prezъъ onię godini kogi beše beriketъ na zemlju | as during those years, when there was abundance on the Earth? | |
115: | nelo e i ona pomrъknula ot naše zlo bezumie | Because even it became dark because of our evil mindlessness! |
116: | ox zlo i tešъko i gorъko namъ okajani | O (it is) evil and hard and bitter for us, the miserable ones! |
117: | i po onaja zvezda poidoxu onija xitri neverъnici | And those wise unbelievers followed that star. |
118: | i naidoxu xrta u pešteru | And they found the Christ in the cave. |
119: | zašto imъ anъgelъ bžii pokaza dve godinъ po napredъ | Because the angel of God showed them two years earlier. |
120: | i javi imъ se angelъ predъ oči kato zvezda | And the angel appeared in front of (their) eyes as a star. |
121: | posle se dignu crъ irodъ sasъ mlogo voisku | Afterwards, King Herod rose up with a great army. |
122: | i otide u gradъ viѳleem i u galileja i u nazaretъ | And he went to the city of Bethlehen, and to Galilee, and to Nazareth, |

da ne preuzme negovo crtvo da cruva xrtosъ nadi cra iroda | so that he would not take his kingdom, to rule over King herod. | |

125: | kakvo ne može da go naide | As he could not find him (?), |
nelo mu donese vragъ zlo na pametъ | the Enemy brought evil to his mind. | |
126: | ta isъkla četiri na desetъ xiljadi malъki ◄ deca po ot dve godinъ | And he slaughtered fourteen thousand small children up to (?) two years (of age), |
dano bi našlъ i xrta da go pogubi | so that he would find the Christ, to kill him too. | |
127: | i ne može da go naide da go pogubi | And he could not find him to kill him. |
128: | kogi doide vreme on samъ se predade na evree u rukei | When the time came, he gave himself over to the hands of the Jews, |
da go mučutъ zaradi rodъ xrtianъski da ni izbavi ot večnoe mučenie | to torture him for the Christian kin, to save them from Eternal Torment. | |
129: | tomu že xrtu bu našemu slava | And glory (be) to this Christ, our God, |
