3: Bl͂goródni ʾi dostòpóčeténi ʾi xrístòljubívi xr͒tiăni brátĭi móĭ vozljubléni poslúšaĭte za dnéši dñь O noble, and respect-worthy, and Christ-loving Christians, my dear brothers, listen (to the homily) for this day!
4: da vì skážemo dá razuméte kakvó se pórodi gd͒ь nášь is͂ь xr͒tósь Let us tell you, so that you understand, how our Lord Jesus Christ was born.
5: réče: gd͒ь ʾár͛xãn͛gelu gavrïĭlu The Lord said to Archangel Gabriel:
6: ʾidì ʾán͛g͂ele réčì prekrásnomu ʾiʾwˇsifu da ʾide u: grádь nazarétь zʾá dv͂ícu máríju ʺGo, o angel, (and) tell the handsome Joseph to go the city of Nazareth for Virgin Mary!ʺ
7: ʾjá poveléxь da ju ʾuzme ʾónь ʺI gave the command to him to take her.ʺ
8: ʾi xóče da sè; narečè maría dv͂ica ʾiwˇsifu ʾwbručnica ʺAnd Virgin Mary will be called the Bride of Joseph.ʺ
9: takò povelè bg̃ь Thus God commanded.
10: ʾi promináxu nekolíko dnì And some days passed.
11: ʾi ʾōtidè ʾiʾwsifь And Joseph went away.
12: ʾi vide maríju devícu And he saw Virgin Mary.
13: ʾi dóĭde mu na pámet kato jù glédaše če è ʾwšte mládo detè maríja And as he watched her, it came to his mind, that Mary is still a young child.
14: ʾá iwˇsifь béše bl͂gorazumenь ʾi právedenь ʾi bg̃ubojàzlívь And Joseph was a prudent, and just, and a God-fearing man.
15: ta ne štejà da ʾwbadi níkomu če go è pratílь bg̃ь za devícu maríju da jù ʾuzme za ženu sébe So he did not want to tell anybody that God had sent him to take Virgin Mary for a wife.
16: no pómislì da jù napúšti But he thought to leave her.
17: ʾi va ʾonaę nóštь tovà ʾwnь pómisli And thus he thought in that night.
18: ʾi ʾjáví mu se ʾáng̃elь gd͒nь gavrïĭlь And Gabriel, the angel of God, appeared to him.
19: ʾi reče mu
20: ʾiwˇosife sñu dv͂ídovь wt ništo da sè ne uplášišь ʺO Joseph, son of David, may you have no fear from anything.ʺ
21: nelò fanì maríju ženù tvojù za rúku ʺJust take your wife Mary by the hand!ʺ
22: ʾi upazí ju ʺAnd protect her!ʺ
23: ʾi tovà štotò ʾima maría u korь´mь svóĭ tova e začéla wt dx͂a st̃ago ʺAnd that, what Mary has in her bosom, she had conceived by Holy Spirit.ʺ
24: ʾi šte da ródi sína ʺAnd she will give a birth to a son.ʺ
25: ʾá tí mu narečí ʾime ii͂sь ʺAnd you give him the name Jesus!ʺ
26: zaštò ʾonь xoče da sp͒i sь´vь ródь čl̃véčeski wt pregrešénïe ʺBecause he will save all the human race from sin.ʺ
27: ʾi kogì stánu ʾiwsifь on͛ pomísli And when Joseph woke up, he thought.
28: ʾi sotvóri kakvoto mu réče ʾán͛g͂elь And he did, as the angel said to him.
29: ʾi vь ʾónóva vréme ʾizleze povelenïe wt cr̃a ʾávgustà da sè podpís-va svéki čl͂vékь pódь cr͂evu ruku And in that time, a command came from Emperor Augustus, for every man under the Emperor's hand, to subscribe,
ʾi da znáe cr̃ь kóĭ kákvь e člvekь ʾi svéki da e zapísanь u cr͂ska kníga and so that the Emperor knows, what kind of man everyone is, everyone to be written in the imperial accounts.
30: ʾi zaštò rázbra cr̃ь če xoče da sè poródi cr̃ь velíkь wt dv͂ícu maríju And (it was done so?) because the Emperor understood, that a great king was going to be born from Virgin Mary.
31: ta se boéše cr̃ь da mu ne preuzme cr̃ь,stvo Thus the Emperor feared, that he would take over his domain.
32: tò zatovà sákaše da prepíše sví te čl̃véci u negóva kníga And that is why he wanted to write down all the people in his accounts,
ʾi da znae komù kakvó e ʾimè and to know, how is everyone called.
33: doʾide rédь ʾi do ʾiwsifa da sè píše ʾi wˇnь And it was, then, Joseph's turn to subscribe himself.
34: ʾi pi,sʾa se And he wrote himself.
35: ʾiʾwsifь béše wt cr̃ь davídovь rodь Joseph was from the house of King David.
36: ʾi kogí se napisáxu dóĭde vréme da ródi dv͂íca máría xr͒tà And as they were writing themselves, the time had come for Virgin Mary to give birth.
37: ʾi bg̃ь zapratì ʾáng͂ela And God sent an angel.
38: ta réče And he said:
39: ʾiwˇsife ʾidi; uzmì ženù tvojù maríju ʺO Joseph, go (and) take your wife, Mary!ʺ
40: ʾi béži u viѳléemь ʺAnd flee to Bethlehem!ʺ
41: ʾi ʾónь ju fánu za ruku And he took her by the hand.
42: ʾi pobéže daléko katò da go ne náʾidutь; And he ran far away, so that he will not be found.
43: ʾi ulézoxu u ednà péštera And they entered a cave.
44: ʾi támo rodi préčt͒aja bc͂a gd͒a nášego ʾis͂sa xr͒ta And there, the Most Pure Mother of God gave birth to our Lord Jesus Christ.
45: ʾi katò čueše st̃aja bdca takvíva dúmi wt cr̃a ʾwnà se boeše za xr͒ta sína svóegò And as the holy Mother of God heard such words (?) from the Emperor (?), she feared for the Christ, her son.
46: ʾi wpóvi go u peleni And she wrapped him in diapers.
47: ʾi položí go u jásli And she put him into a cradle.
48: ta gò skri And thus she hid him.
49: zašto u wnája péštera béše mésto šíróko Because there was a wide place in the cave.
50: tá doxódexu pútnici And so travellers were coming.
51: ta béxu; napráveni ʾjásli And thus a cradle was made.
52: ta sì privézvaxu; kóni ʾili volóve ʾilì mьski ʾili bilò što And thus they were binding on (it) horses, or oxen, or mules, or whatever (they had).
53: ta tamo skrì st̃aʾjá bdca xr͒tà u ʾjásli te prédь volóve And there the holy Mother of God hid the Christ in the cradle in front of the oxen.
54: ʾi pastírïe ʾimáše támo blízo prí ʾónája péštera And shepherds were there, close to that cave.
55: ʾi svírexu na svoè stádo And they were whistling on their flock.
56: ʾi edínь pastírь wt níxь vidè svetlósь velíku vь péšteru And one of the shepherds saw the great light in the cave.
57: ʾi uplaší se And he became afraid.
58: dóĭde ʾáñggelь gd͒nь pri níxь An angel of God came to them.
59: ʾi réče ĭmь And he said to them:
60: ne bóĭte se ʺHave no fear!ʺ
61: dúmamь vámь ʺI say to you:ʺ
62: túka xóče rádosь goléma dá búde ʺThere will be great joy here.ʺ
63: idéte u peštéru ʺGo to the cave!ʺ
64: ʾi náĭ štete támo st̃uju bdcu ʺAnd you will find there the holy Mother of God.ʺ
65: ʾi vidé štete kákvo povíva xr͒ta mldnca svoego u peleni ʺAnd you will see, how she wraps the Christ, her son, in diapers.ʺ
66: ʾi da čúete tamo kakvo pejutь ʾánьg͂eli ʺAnd you (will?) hear, how the angels sing there:ʺ
67: sláva va víšnixь bg̃u ʺGlory (be) to God in the highest!ʺ
68: ʾi na zemlì mírь ʺAnd peace (be) on the Earth!ʺ
69: va čl͂vecéxь bl̃govolénïe ʺGood will (be) in the people!ʺ
70: ʾi pastíre te kato čúxu tója glásь ʾōtidóxu tamo u péšteru, And as the shepherds heard the voice, they went there, into that cave.
71: ʾi năidóxu kakvo ĭmь skazà ʾáñggelь And they found, what the angel said to them.
72: ʾI va dni ʾiroda cr̃a dóĭdoxu drúgi, trì cr̃ove pri négo xitьr͛ci wt ʾistokь And in the days of King Herod, other, three kings came to him, mages (lit. wise ones) from the East.
73: dóĭdoxu u ïerusalímь They came to Jerusalem.
74: ʾi pitáxu And they asked:
75: gdè xoče da sè [rodi] cr̃ь ïjudéĭskī ʺWhere will be born the King of Jews?ʺ
76: zaštò vidox͛me zvézdà na ĭstokь ʺBecause we saw a star in the East.ʺ
77: ʾi sa;kame dá ĭdeme pri négo da mu se poklonimo ʺAnd we want to go to him, to pay respect to him.ʺ
78: katò ču cr̃ь ʾirodь tája duma uplaší se As King Herod heard that word, he became afraid.
79: ʾi prizova načélni čl̃véci vládíci ʾi knížnici ʾi popove And he called for leading people - bishops, and learned men, and priests.
80: ʾi pita gi gde píše pisánïe da se ródi xr͒tósь cr̃ь: And he asked them, where the Scripture writes, that the Christ-King will be born.
81: ʾi ʾwní mu rékoše And they said to him:
82: prorókь mixéja réče ʺProphet Micah said:ʺ
83: vь viѳléemь xóče da sè ródi xr͒tosь ʺThe Christ will be born in Bethlehem.ʺ
84: togíva cr̃ь ʾirodь potáĭno prizova; ʾwnïę trí cr̃ıe xitьr͛ci Then King Herod secretly summoned those three mage-kings.
85: ʾi reče imь And he said to them:
86: ʾidete ʺGo!ʺ
87: ʾi pítaĭte gdé se e rodílь xr͒tósь ʺAnd ask, where the Christ has been born,ʺ
i níja da ʾidémo pri négo da mu se poklónimo ʺso that we, too, go to him, to pay respect.ʺ
88: ʾi kogí go naĭdete ʾd´óĭdéte ʺAnd when you find home, come (back)!ʺ
89: ta mi kažéte dá ĭdemь ʾi ja da mu se poklónimь ʺAnd tell me, so that I, too, go to pay respect to him!ʺ
90: tova produmà pogáni ʾirodь Thus spoke the heathen-mannered Herod.
91: ʾwnь ne štéše da mu se poklóni He was not going to pay respect to him.
92: no mísleše da pušti źlì zlomíslьnici da ubíjutь xr͒ta; But he thought about releasing evil evil-thinkers to kill the Christ.
93: če sè boéše da mu ne preuzme cr͒tvo to ʾwnь da cr̃uva For he feared, that he (could) take his kingdom, to rule.
94: togíva ʾwníja tri cárove xítri ʾizlézoxu wt ïer͒límь Then those three wise kings left Jerusalem.
95: ʾi ʾwtidóxu gdetò stánu źvezdá ta u viѳleemь nádь ʾwtróče to u péšteru tu And they went, where the star stood in Bethlehem over the child in the cave.
96: ʾi náĭ;doxu gdé se e rodílь xr͒tósь And they found, where the Christ was born.
97: togiva ʾwnïę cr̃ove ʾōtvoríxu kov͛čezi Then those kings opened their stashes.
98: ta izvadïxu dárove štotò nósexu da poklónutь xr͒tu tijá tri cr̃ove Then, those three kings took out gifts to grant them to the Christ.
99: ʾedínь cr̃ь pokloni st̃éi bdci zláto One king gave gold to the holy Mother of God.
100: ʾá drugi pokloni livánь And another gave thyme.
101: ʾá treti ʾizmir͛nu And the third (gave) myrrh.
102: ʾáñgelь; gd͒nь réče na cr͂ove te An angel of God said to the kings:
103: da ne ʾidete prï cr̃a ʾiroda ʺDo not go to King Herod!ʺ
104: nь si ʾidéte po svói pútь ʺBut go by your own way!ʺ
105: ʾi ʾwni se povrьnáxu po drúgi putь And they returned by another way.
106: ʾi wtidóxu si va svoju drьžávu And they went away to their own country.
107: ʾi proslávixu ʾime xr͒tovo po svu zémlju And they praised the name of the Christ all over the Earth.
108: togíva wnʾija xítri cr̃ie wt gde razuméxu če xoče da sè ródi xr͒tósь Then, from where did those wise kings understand, that the Christ was going to be born?
109: nikákvo ne ĭmaše posóka There was no sign (for them).
110: no páki sam sí bg̃ь pokazà But still, God Himself showed (a sign).
111: iavì zvezdu svetlivu štoto jù; nija zovemo deníca He made the star appear, which we call Morning Star.
112: ʾwna prosvetè It began to shine.
113: ʾi ʾwnïę xítьrcì se setíxu če xóče da se rodi cr̃ь nadì s͛vь st̃ь And those wise men understood, that a king of all the world will be born.
114: zašto: ne st̃i taę zvezda sʾьga u naši te dnì zločʾesti (And) why does not the star shine now, in our evil days,
kato prez͛ь ʾwnïę godini kogi béše berikétь na zémlju as during those years, when there was abundance on the Earth?
115: nelo e ʾi ʾwna pomrьknula wt naše zlo bezumïe Because even it became dark because of our evil mindlessness!
116: wx zlo ʾi teš͛ko ʾi gor͛ko namь ʾwkaʾjáni O (it is) evil and hard and bitter for us, the miserable ones!
117: ʾi po ʾwnaja zvezdà poĭdoxu ʾwníʾjá xítri never͛nici And those wise unbelievers followed that star.
118: ʾi náĭdoxu xr͒ta u pešteru And they found the Christ in the cave.
119: zaštò ʾimь ʾán͛g̃elь bž̃ïi pokazà dve gódinь po naprédь Because the angel of God showed them two years earlier.
120: ʾi ʾjávi im͛ se ʾáng̃elь prédь ʾóč̃i katò zvezda, And the angel appeared in front of (their) eyes as a star.
121: pósle se dígnu cr̃ь ʾirodь sásь mlógo vóĭsku Afterwards, King Herod rose up with a great army.
122: ʾi ōtide u grádь víѳléem ʾi u galileja ʾi u nazarétь And he went to the city of Bethlehen, and to Galilee, and to Nazareth,
da tráži xr͒ta da gò pogúbi to search for the Christ, to kill him,
da ne preuzme negovo cr͒tvo da cr͂uva xr͒tósь nádi cr̃a ʾiroda so that he would not take his kingdom, to rule over King herod.
123: tražì He searched,
124: ʾi pità za xr͒tanʾi and he asked for Christians (?)
125: kakvo ne možè da gò naĭde As he could not find him (?),
nelo mu donése vrágь zlò na pámetь the Enemy brought evil to his mind.
126: ta ʾisь:.kla čétiri ná desetь xíljadi mal͛ki ◄ decà po wt dve gódinь And he slaughtered fourteen thousand small children up to (?) two years (of age),
danó bi našlь ʾi xr͒ta da go pogúbi so that he would find the Christ, to kill him too.
127: ʾi ne možè da go náʾide da go pogúbi And he could not find him to kill him.
128: kogì dóĭde vréme wn sam͛ se predáde na ʾevree u ruke(i) When the time came, he gave himself over to the hands of the Jews,
da go mučutь zaradì rodь xr͒tian͛ski da ni ʾizbávi wt véčnoe mučénïe to torture him for the Christian kin, to save them from Eternal Torment.
129: tómu že xr͒tu b̃u nášemu sláva And glory (be) to this Christ, our God,
ʾi čt͒ь ʾi poklonenïe and honor and respect,
ʾóc͂u: ʾi sínu ʾi st̃ómu dx̃u to Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
nině ʾi prísno ʾi vo vek now and ever, and forever!
