 | i rekoxa mu popove te | And the priests said to him: |
 | ne boi se člveče | ʺHave no fear, o man!ʺ |
 | na tova dete rabota xoče da bude stъ | ʺThe works (?) of this child will be holy (?)ʺ |
 | negova rečъ xoče da bude otrečena | ʺHis word shall be denied.ʺ |
 | i životъ negovъ xoče da bude sasъ boga | ʺAnd his life shall be with God.ʺ |

 | i xoče da sudi na neverъnici sasъ oružie i sasъ ognъ | ʺAnd he shall judge unbelievers with weapons and fire.ʺ |
 | tako mu rekoxu popove te ierusalimъski | Thus spoke the priests of Jerusalem to him. |
 | i onъ si otide na domъ svoi | And he went to his home. |
 | i nadaše se da vidi | And he hoped to see, |
što xoče da bude | what will happen,

i koliko dela i čudea sъtvori | and how many works and miracles he will make.
 | ot kakvo poče da proročestvuva imaše edinъ crъ | Since he began to prophesize, there was a king. |
 | ime mu beše axavъ | His name was Ahab. |
 | i ne čestivъ | And (he was) dishonorable. |
 | ne vervaše istinago bga | He did not believe (in) the True God. |
 | i uze sebe ženu | And he took himself a wife. |
 | ime i beše elъzavela | Her name was Jezebel. |
 | i toliko beše bezbožna | And she was so godless! |
 | nikakvo ne može da poznae istinago bga | She could not know the True God in any way. |
 | nelo se poklanjaxu na idole kato bgu | And they bowed to the idols like to God. |
 | i narekoxa mu ime voalъ bgъ | And they gave him the name God Baal. |
 | i va onija vremena xodeše prorokъ ilia po zemlju | And in those times, Prophet Elijah walked the Earth. |
 | i vide kako crъ ne počita istinago bga | And he saw, how the king does not respect the True God, |
no se poklanja na bezъdšni idole | but (that) he bows to soulless idols,
i sъvъ narodъ poklanja se na gluxi i na nemi idole | and (that) the whole nation bows to deaf and mute idols.

 | a onъ se rasrъdi | And he became angry. |
 | i reče | And he said: |

 | veče da ne bude dъžъ na zemlju dogde ja rečemъ | ʺMay there be no rain on the Earth until I say!ʺ |
 | i svrъši se iliju duma ta | And the Elijah's word was fulfilled. |
 | i reče bgъ | And God said: |
 | idi ilie na istočna strana dole | ʺGo, o Elijah, down to the land of the East!ʺ |
 | i skri se vъ suxi dolъ što e blizu pri iorъdana | ʺAnd hide yourself in the dry valley, which is close to the River Jordan!ʺ |

 | i ako ožadneešъ tamo xočešъ piti vodu ot reku | ʺAnd if you become thirsty, you will drink the water from the river.ʺ |
 | i ja xočemъ poveleti garъvanu da ti prinosi xlebъ i meso | ʺAnd I will command a raven to bring you bread and meat.ʺ |
 | i satvori prorokъ ilia kakvoto mu zapoveda mltvi bgъ | And Prophet Elijah did as the merciful God commanded him. |
 | i otide tamo u onja suxi dolъ | And he went there, to the dry valley. |
 | i sede podъ edinъ breg | And he sat under a hill. |

 | i xočatъ nekoi da rečutъ | And some may say: |
 | pošto bgъ ne prati druga ptica | Why did God not send another bird? |
 | nelo prati vranu da sluguva proroku iliju | But He sent a crow to serve Prophet Elijah? |
 | razumeite dobre xrtiani | Understand well, o Christians! |

 | i oni gladni sakatъ ot bga da edutъ | And they want from God to eat. |
 | i skričutъ sasъ usta nagore | And they cry with mouths up. |
 | i bgъ milostivi imъ prati malъki mušici | And the merciful God sends them small flies. |
 | i oni gi poglъtatъ | And they eat them. |
 | i xranatъ se sami | And they feed themselves alone, |
dogde porastutъ da frъknutъ ot gnezdo | until they grow up to fly away from the nest.
 | toliko e vrana ne mltiva gadina za svoi pileta | So bad and merciless is the crow to its children. |
 | ta zatova i bgъ reče | And that is why God said: |
 | ilio i ti si takovja ne mltivъ kako tija ne mltivi vrani | ʺO Elijah, you, too, are as merciless as those merciless crows!ʺ |
 | tako i ti ne miluvašъ da ne pomratъ člveci ot gladъ | ʺYou, too, have no mercy, so that people won't die of hunger.ʺ |
 | no i ošte i mene pališъ | ʺBut you compel (?) me too,ʺ |
da ne davamъ dъžъ na zemlju | ʺso that I give no rain to the land.ʺ

 | stani da ideišъ u gradъ seraftъ | ʺStand up and go to the city of Zarephath!ʺ |
 | tamo ima edna žena sirota vdovica | ʺThere is one woman, a poor widow.ʺ |
 | i ja xočemъ da povelimъ da te naxrani taę sirotica | ʺAnd I will give a command, so that this poor woman feeds you.ʺ |
 | i otide ilia | And Elijah went. |

i malъko xlebъ da edemъ | ʺand a bit of bread to eat.ʺ
 | a žena ta reče | And the woman said: |
 | člveče živъ da bude gdъ bgъ moi | ʺO man, long live the Lord, my God!ʺ |
 | ne imamъ poveče brašno ot edna krivačka u kačicu moju i malo maslo u maslenikъ | ʺI don't have more flour than a bit in my jar, and a bit of oil in the bottle.ʺ |
 | i ete sabiramъ drъvca da omesimъ malu turъticu | ʺAnd here, I collect wood to knead a small loaf,ʺ |
da edemъ ja i moe čedo | ʺso that I and my child eat,ʺ
i pa togiva da umreme | ʺand then, we will die.ʺ
 | reče ei prorokъ ilia | Prophet Elijah said to her: |

 | a ti posle štešъ jasti i tvoe čedo | ʺAnd you and you child will eat then.ʺ |
 | zašto tako reče gdъ bgъ | ʺBecause thus spoke Lord God:ʺ |
 | kačica tvoja ne šte da opraznee ot brašno | ʺYour jar shall not become empty of flour,ʺ |
i maslenikъ ot maslo | ʺnor your bottle of oil,ʺ
dogde dade bgъ dъžъ po svu zemlju | ʺuntil God gives rain to all the land.ʺ
 | i otide žena ta | |
 | i sotvori kakvoto i reče ilia
 | i ot toja časъ ne oprazne kačica bezъ brašno
 | vidite li kakvo taja vdovica sasъ edna rečъ izvadi xlebъ ot svoi usta i ot svoe čedo | Do you see, how the widow takes away the bread from her own mouth and her child, |
i dade go stranomu i ne poznanomu čuždinъcu | and gives it to a strange and unknown man?
 | višъte kakvo se isplъni blgvenie u dom udovicinъ | See, how a blessing was fulfilled in the house of the widow! |
 | u onova vreme koliko bexu člveci bgati sasъ srebro i sasъ zlato | How rich were the people in that time with silver and gold! |
 | i paki umiraxu za xlebъ i za vodu | And - they were dying for bread and water. |
 | a onaja žena imaše | And that woman had (it). |

 | i uze go ot ruke maikini mu | And he took him from his mother's hands. |
 | i zanese go tamo kade sam sedeše | And he brought him there, where he was staying himself. |

 | i bgъ posluša molъbu iliinu | And God listened to the Elijah's prayer. |
 | i ožive dete to | And the child became alive. |
 | i dade go prorokъ maike mu u ruke | And the Prophet put him to his mother's hands. |
 | i reče | And he said: |
 | ženo ete ožive sinъ tvoi | ʺO woman, see, your son became alive.ʺ |
 | i reče žena | And the woman said: |
 | sъga poznaxъ ja če istina si člvekъ bžii bilъ | ʺNow I understand, that you truly were a man of God.ʺ |
 | i po tova minaxu tri godinъ | And afterwards, three years passed. |

dano bi našli negde treva za koni te naši | ʺso that (we) would find somewhere grass for our horses,ʺ
da pasutъ | ʺso that they could graze.ʺ
 | zašto ni sve pomrexu koni te ot gladi | Because all the horses died of hunger. |
 | zašto u tia tri godinъ ne maše edna kapka dъžъ na zemlju | As there was not a drop of rain for three years in the land. |
