5: | ҆име мꙋ бе́ше те҆ѡдорь | His name was Theodore. |
6: | богáть | (He was) rich. |
7: | ҆и ѡтиде(и) по мо́ре сáсь корáбь да си про́дава по́треби́ю | And he went with a ship by sea to sell his goods. |
8: | докарá се нещо | Something happened, |
9: | ҆и пото́пи се корáбь | and the ship sunk. |
10: | ҆и погꙋби све́ свое ҆име́нїе | And he lost all his property. |
11: | па ҆имаше любо́вь сáсь ҆едного жи́дови́на | And he had a friendship with one Jew. |
12: | ҆и не́мꙋ бе́ше ҆име ҆áврáмь | And his name was Abraham. |
13: | ҆и онь бе́ше ҆ꙗ́ко богáть | And he was very rich. |
14: | прїиде т(о)дорь да мꙋ дадѐ злато | Theodore came (to him), so that he gives him gold. |
15: | ҆и мо́леше се ѳе҆ѡдорь жи́дови́нꙋ да мꙋ даде млого (жльти́ци) | And Theodore prayed the Jew to give him a lot of gold coins, |
да закꙋпꙋва що мꙋ тре́бꙋва | so that he would buy, what he needs (for trade). | |
16: | а жидовинь мꙋ ре́че | And the Jew said to him: |
17: | дӑи ми зало́гь да тѝ дарем злáто коли́ко хо́чешь | ʺGive me a deposit, so that I give you as much gold as you wish!ʺ |
18: | ҆á теѡдрь се молеше | And Theodore prayed: |
19: | не имамь чл҃вече що да тѝ (да)де́мь | ʺI have nothing to give you.ʺ |
20: | ҆и поиде си ѳеѡд(р)ь хр͒тиӑнинь да си иде на до́мь сво́й | And Theodore the Christian went to go home. |
21: | ӥ жидови́нь го ҆испрат͛ваше | And the Jew accompanied him. |
22: | ҆и като ҆идехꙋ по ҅ꙋлицꙋ ви́дохꙋ на ҆едни врáта ҆о́бразь хр͒товь напи́сань | And as they walked on the street, they saw a picture of Christ drawn on one door. |
23: | ҆и ре́че жидови́нꙋ | And (Theodore) said to the Jew: |
24: | то́ꙗ е ҆образ на хр͒та бг҃а моего | ʺThis is a picture of the Christ, my God.ʺ |
25: | него̀ ҆имамь за свꙋ мою̀ по́мощь до животà моего̀ | ʺHim I have for all my help in my life.ʺ |
26: | него да ти ҆ѡстáвимь мар͛тꙋра | ʺLet me make Him my witness!ʺ |
27: | ре́че жидови́нь | The Jew said: |
28: | ҆áко по́ ҆истинꙋ прáво вер͛вашь хр͒тà да тѝ даде́мь коли́ко хо́щеши злáто | ʺIf you truly believe justly in Christ, I would give you as much gold as you wish.ʺ |
29: | ҆и врьнá го на свои до́мь | And he returned him to his home. |
30: | ҆и дáде́ мꙋ хи́лꙗ́до литри ѕлáто | And he gave him thousand pounds of gold. |
31: | ѳе҆ѡдорь накꙋпꙋва що мꙋ̀ тре́бꙋва | Theodore bought, what he needed. |
32: | ҆и ѡтидѐ ꙋ алеѯáньдри́ю грáда | And he went to the city of Alexandria. |
33: | ҆и све свою потребию какво сакà такà продáде | And he sold all his goods as he wanted. |
34: | ҆и накꙋпꙋва дрꙋ́гꙋ кꙋ́плю | And he bought other goods. |
35: | ҆и врь́нꙋ се пáки вь цр҃игрáдь | And he returned to Tsarigrad again. |
36: | ҆и не можѐ да сти́гне цр҃игрáдь | And he was unable to reach Tsarigrad. |
37: | ҆и потопи́ се корáбль | And - the ship sunk. |
38: | дочꙋ се хабáрь до жидовина че е дош͛ль те́҆ѡдорь | The report, that Theodor had returned, came to the Jew. |
39: | ҆áли не знáе че се ѐ пото́пиль корáбль | But he does not know, that the ship sunk. |
40: | доидѐ мꙋ на до́мь да сѝ сáка ҆имáне то своѐ | He went to his house to ask for his property. |
41: | ҆и нӑиде го че плáче на до́мь сво́и | And he found him crying in his house. |
42: | ҆и он͛ го попитà | And he asked him: |
43: | що плáчешь те҅ѡдоре | ʺWhy are you crying, o Theodore?ʺ |
44: | ҆и ѡнь рече | And he said: |
45: | потопи́ се корáбль | ʺThe ship sunk!ʺ |
46: | ҆и погꙋби́хь све то ҆именїе | ʺAnd I lost all the property!ʺ |
47: | ҆á жидови́нь го те́шешѐ | But the Jew consolated him, |
да се не ҆ѡскрь́бꙋва | (saying) not to be sad, | |
но да верꙋ́ва що се ѐ: ҆ѡбре́кль хр͒тꙋ | but to believe in his vow to Christ, | |
да мꙋ̀ бꙋ́де мар҆тꙋриа; | to be his witness. | |
48: | ҆и паки пове́де го жидови́нь на до́мь; сво́й | And the Jew took him again to his house. |
49: | ҆и даде мꙋ пáки хи́лꙗдо ли́три; злáто | And he gave him again thousand pounds of gold. |
50: | ҆и приве́де го тáмо нá вратá та каде бе́ше хр͒то́сь ҆испи́сань | And he brought him to the door there, where the Christ was drawn. |
51: | ҆и мартꙋри́ю се́бе ҆ѡстави пáки добрѐ да го замартꙋри́ше | And he made him his witness again, so that he guarantees him well (?) |
52: | ҆и ѡтиде тодрь | And Theodore went, |
53: | ҆и кꙋпи; смолꙋ̀ | and he bought tar. |
54: | ҆и ѡтидѐ ꙋ еги́петь | And he went to Egypt. |
55: | даде смолꙋ | He gave tar, |
56: | ꙋзе ҆о́лово | he took lead. |
57: | ҆и ѿ тамо ѿтиде ҆ꙋ ефесь грáдь | From there he went to the city of Ephesus. |
58: | даде ҆о́лово | He gave lead, |
59: | ꙋ́зе ме́дь | he took honey. |
60: | ҆и млого спечалѝ ҆имáне | And he made a lot of fortune. |
61: | ҆идеше си | He went, |
62: | ҆и рáдваше се | and he was happy. |
63: | ҆и пáки не́ можѐ да дости́гне | And, again, he could not reach (home). |
64: | рáзби се корáбь | The ship broke up. |
65: | ҆и погꙋби све що ѐ спечали́ль | And he lost everything he had gained. |
66: | ҆и до҆иде́ си на до́мь сво́й | And he came to his home. |
67: | седе́ше | He was sitting, |
68: | ҆и плáчеше | and he cried. |
69: | ҆á жидови́нь видѐ тодровꙋ пáгꙋбꙋ | And the Jew saw Theodore's loss. |
70: | ҆и свое злáто погꙋби | And he lost his gold (too). |
71: | ҆и зовá го | And he called him. |
72: | ҆и почѐ да мꙋ̀ хоротꙋва | And he began to speak to him. |
73: | ҆и рꙋгаѐ на хр͒тà | And he blaspheme(d) against the Christ. |
74: | ҆и каже тодрꙋ | And he said to Theodore: |
75: | видиш ли какво се прел͛стихте вие | ʺDo you see, how you were deceived?ʺ |
76: | ҆и вер͛вате не сꙋ́щемꙋ бг҃ꙋ | ʺAnd you believe in a non-existend god!ʺ |
77: | да ѐ то́ꙗ си́нь бж҃їи бил ти не бѝ тре́ти пꙋть погꙋбиль свое: ҆именїе ҆и мое | ʺIf he was a Son of God, you would not have lost your and my property for a third time!ʺ |
78: | ҆и не би ꙋ тол͛кова гри́жꙋ ꙋпáднꙋль | ʺAnd you would not fall into such a sorrow.ʺ |
79: | ѳеѡдрь плáчеше | Theodore cried. |
80: | ҆и дꙋ́маше жидови́нꙋ | And he said to the Jew: |
81: | не де́й дрꙋ́же | ʺDo not do that, o friend!ʺ |
82: | не хꙋлѝ ҆истинáго бг҃а | ʺDo not slander the True God!ʺ |
83: | товá е радѝ мо́й гре́хь | ʺThat is (so) because of my sin.ʺ |
84: | та се тáко слꙋ́чи ме́не | ʺThus it happened to me.ʺ |
85: | то́го рáди пригледá ме: мор͛ски талáсь да мѐ ҆ѡбезьче́сти | ʺThat is why the sea wave looked upon me - to dishonor me!ʺ |
86: | но паки ти се мо́лимь | ʺBut I pray you again:ʺ |
87: | дай ми ҆ѡще тре́ти пꙋть злáто | ʺGive me gold for the third time!ʺ |
88: | ҆и вер͛вамь | ʺAnd I believe:ʺ |
89: | що сѝ похꙋлиль хр͒та бг҃а моего | ʺBecause you have blasphemed against Christ, my God.ʺ |
90: | то́й ще пáки ме́не да помо́гне | ʺHe will help me again.ʺ |
91: | са͒ мо́и пре́битль́кь хочем све твоѐ ҆име́нїе да поврь́немь | ʺWith my profit, I will return all your property back.ʺ |
92: | ҆á жидови́нь мꙋ дáде ҆и трети пꙋть хилꙗ́до литри злáто | And the Jew gave him a thousand pounds of gold for the third time too. |
93: | ҆и приве́де го при то҆ꙗ́ ҆обрáзь ҆ис͒ь хр͒то́вь щото̀ бе́ше пи́сань на вратá та | And he brought him to the picture, of Jesus Christ, which was drawn on the door. |
94: | ҆и ре́че жидови́нь | And the Jew said (...) |
95: | на ҆ѡбрáзо гле́да | He looks to the picture, |
96: | ҆и дꙋма | and he says: |
97: | те́бе сьга ве́р͛наго мар͛тꙋри́ю; при́е́мамь | ʺI take you as my loyal witness!ʺ |
98: | та ҆áко си́нь бж҃їи бꙋ́дешь | ʺSo if you would be the Son of God,ʺ |
зачꙋ́ваи ѳе҆ѡдора ҆и мое ҆имане що ѿводи сáсь не́го | ʺprotect Theodore and my property, which goes with him!ʺ | |
99: | та ҆и ꙗ́ да тѐ повер͛вамь | ʺThen I will believe in you too.ʺ |
100: | ҆áко ли не да сѐ не ль́сти ко́й гле́да ꙋ те́бе ҆и да тѐ верꙋ́ва | ʺ(And) if not, may those who look and believe in you would not deceive themselves!ʺ |
101: | ꙋзе теѡдрь злáто | Theodore took the gold. |
102: | ҆и кꙋпи све́кꙋ по́треби́ю | And he bought all (kinds of) goods. |
103: | ҆и ҆ѡти́дѐ ꙋ калáврию грáда | And he went to the city of Calabria. |
104: | тáмо кꙋ́пи пшени́цꙋ | There, he bought wheat, |
105: | ҆и ѡтиде ꙋ гꙋньдáлию грáда | and he went to the city of Gundaly (?) |
106: | тáмо нáйде мꙋщерию по ҆единꙋ злáтницꙋ реше́то | There he found a client (willing to buy?) a sieve (of wheat?) for one gold piece. |
107: | продáде пшени́цꙋ | He sold the wheat, |
108: | ҆и кꙋпи по сре́бреник ме́рꙋ вино̀ | and he bought a barrel of wine for a silver coin. |
109: | ҆и ҆ѡтиде ꙋ вели́ки грáдь ҆аньтио́хїю | And he went to the great city of Antioch. |
110: | продаде тꙋю ме́рꙋ вино̀ по злáтникꙋ | He sold the barrel of wine for a gold coin. |
111: | ҆и сьбра чети́ри хи́лꙗди литри злáто | And he collected four thousand pounds of gold. |
112: | ҆и наложи злáто ꙋ ков͛чегь | And he put the gold into a stash. |
113: | ҆и написà те́скере | And he wrote a notice: |
114: | ҆етѐ ҆ꙗ́ теѡдорь хр͒тианинь прáтимь моемꙋ бл҃годáтелю ҆áврамꙋ ҆иꙋде҅ꙗнинꙋ четири хи́лꙗди ли́три злáто ꙋ ков͛чегь | ʺHereby I, Theodore the Christian, send to my helper, Abraham the Jew, four thousand pounds of gold in a stash.ʺ |
115: | ҆и мо҆емꙋ мар͛тꙋрию хр͒тꙋ моли́твꙋ сотвàрáемь товà злáто ꙋ тво́й рꙋ́це да вложи | ʺAnd I do a prayer to the Christ my witness, so that he brings the gold to your hands.ʺ |
116: | ҆и нáложи го ꙋ ков͛чегь | And he put it into a stash. |
117: | ҆и запечатѝ го | And he sealed it. |
118: | ҆и зане́се ко́вчегь | And he brought the stash (to sea), |
119: | ҆и фрьли́ го ꙋ море́ то | and he threw it into the sea. |
120: | ҆и рече | And he said: |
121: | гд͒и їис҃е хр͒те бж҃е мо́й ҆ꙗ́ се на те́бе нáдамь | ʺO Lord Jesus Christ, my God, I put my hopes on you!ʺ |
122: | запрати́хь по море ковчегь са͒ злáто | ʺI sent a stash of gold by the sea.ʺ |
123: | ти гд͒и принеси́ го ꙋ цáригрáдь | ʺYou, o Lord, bring it to Tsarigrad!ʺ |
124: | ҆и дáи го мо҆емꙋ зáймодав͛цꙋ | ʺAnd give it to my lender!ʺ |
125: | ҆и сададе́ се вет͛рь голе́мь бꙋ́ра стрáшна ꙋ мо́ре | And a great wind, a terrible storm came in the sea. |
126: | ҆и подь бре́гове сто́ехꙋ корáбли ꙋ цáригрáдь | And there were ships on the shores of Tsarigrad. |
127: | ҆и разби́вахꙋ се ѿ бꙋ́ини ҆и стрáшни талáсе | And they were being broken by wild and terrible waves. |
128: | ҆и сьвь народь ҆изь; грáдь ҆излезе на крáй мо́ре | And all the people went out of the city to the sea shore, |
да гле́даю мо́ре какво́ се страшно ҆и мꙋтно разни́шáло | to watch, how the sea became so much terribly stirred. | |
129: | ҆излезе ҆и ҆ѡ́нꙗ жидови́нь | And the Jew went out too, |
да види каквá би та҆ꙗ́ чꙋдесà по мо́ре | to see, what miracles happened in the sea. | |
130: | ҆и станꙋ на бре́гь | And he stood on the shore. |
131: | ҆и постоꙗ̀ мал͛ко | And he stood a little. |
132: | ҆и напрегнꙋ се ҆еди́нь ҆ꙗ́ко голе́мь талась | And one very strong wave stretched out. |
133: | ҆и прикара ковчегь сáсь злáто при но́зе жи́дови́нꙋ | And it brought the stash of gold to the Jew's legs. |
134: | ҆и ҆ѡнь го ꙋзе | And he took it. |
135: | ҆и занесе го на до́мь сво́й | And he brought it to his house. |
136: | ҆и ҆ѡтво́ри ков͛чегь | And he opened the stash. |
137: | ҆и нáйде врьзь злато то те́скере що бе́ше писаль теодорь жидови́нꙋ | And he found on the gold the note, which Theodore had written to the Jew. |
138: | ҆и дрꙋго ѡзго́рь приписано ҆евре́иски | And (he found also something) else, written above in Hebrew. |
139: | ҆е́те ҆áзь їис҃ь хр͒то́сь ѿ ѳеѡдра хр͒тиӑнина принесох͛ ти злато по сре́дь море сáсь талась | ʺBehold, I, Jesus Christ, brought you gold from Theodore the Christian through the middle of the sea by a wave.ʺ |
140: | те́бе вь рꙋце вложи́хь да нѐ хꙋ́лишь ме́не їꙋдеꙗнїне | ʺI put it to your hands, so that you do not blaspheme against me, o Jew!ʺ |
141: | що бе́ше теѡдрь порꙋ́чиль сврьши се | ʺWhat Theodore had orderred, has been done.ʺ |
142: | ве́рꙋ фане́те | ʺBelieve!ʺ |
143: | во ҆истинꙋ е͒ тако | ʺIt is the truth.ʺ |
144: | ҆и после до́йде ѳеѡдрь здрáвь сáсь мло́го ҆имане | And then, Theodore came, healthy, with a lot of property. |
145: | ҆и бе́ше кꙋпиль дари мло́го да покло́ни жидови́нꙋ | And he had bought many gifts to give them as presents to the Jew. |
146: | ҆и жидови́нь ꙋзе дари | And the Jew took the presents. |
147: | ҆и пита го за злато що мꙋ́ е займиль | And he asked him about the gold, which he had borrowed to him. |
148: | рече мꙋ ѳеодорь | Theodore said to him: |
149: | ве́рꙋи ме | ʺBelieve me,ʺ |
150: | ҆ꙗ́ смь ти допрати́ль злато по хр͒та мар͛тꙋри́ю моего | ʺI have sent to you the gold by Christ, my witness.ʺ |
151: | ҆и дал͛ ти го е | ʺAnd he has given it to you.ʺ |
152: | ҆и имаш͛ го ꙋ домь тво́й | ʺAnd you have it in your house.ʺ |
153: | жидовин͛ го ҆испитꙋва | The Jew tried him, |
154: | ҆и ре́че | And he said: |
155: | не с͛мь ни́ ѿ кого̀ ꙋзе́ль | ʺI have not taken (anything) from anyone.ʺ |
156: | тоги́ва ѳе҆ѡдорь продꙋма | Then Theodore said: |
157: | ҆ꙗ́ сась те́бе никаква дꙋма не́ мамь | ʺI have no word (quarrel?) with you.ʺ |
158: | ҆áко не сѝ ꙋзель ков͛чегь сáсь че́тири: хи́лꙗди литри злáто | ʺIf you did not take the stash with four thousand pounds of gold,ʺ |
҆ꙗ́ знае́мь какво̀ ҆и те́скере сáсь мою̀ рꙋ́кꙋ писáхь | ʺI know that I also wrote a notice with my hand.ʺ | |
159: | ҆и ѡсзго́рь злато тꙋрихь ꙋ ков͛чегь | ʺAnd I put it over the gold in the stash.ʺ |
160: | запечàтихь | ʺ(And) I sealed (it).ʺ |
161: | ҆и морꙋ го предáдохь ҆и моемꙋ; хр͒тꙋ ҆и тво́емꙋ порꙋчникꙋ | ʺAnd I gave it over to the sea and my Christ, your witness,ʺ |
да ти́ гѡ вло́жи ꙋ тво́й рꙋ́це | ʺso that he would give it to your hands.ʺ | |
162: | ҆áко не сѝ ꙋзе́ль сь́га по́йди сáсь ме́не при ҆образꙋ х҃рїсто́вꙋ | ʺIf you did not take (it), come now with me to the picture of the Christ!ʺ |
163: | закльни́ ми се | ʺ(And) swear to me!ʺ |
164: | пáки не прїимамь | ʺI don't accept again (?)ʺ |
165: | жидови́нь се ҆ꙋ́боꙗ | The Jew became afraid. |
166: | ҆изне́се писмо̀ що е било ꙋ ков͛чегь | He brought out the letter, which had been in the stash. |
167: | ҆и ре́че | And he said: |
168: | тодре познаваш ли товà писмо̀ | ʺO Theodore, do you recognize this letter?ʺ |
169: | ҆и виде тодрь своѐ писмо | And Theodore saw his writing, |
170: | ҆и позна го | and he recognized it. |
171: | ҆á дрꙋго ѡзго́рь при́писано евре́йски кáже | And another (writing), written above in Hebrew, said: |
172: | сь́гь ꙋзми своѐ | ʺNow, take your (property)!ʺ |
173: | ї иꙋдеанїне не хꙋли ме́не | ʺAnd do not blaspheme against me!ʺ |
174: | ҆и коги ви́дохꙋ товá пи́смо ꙋдиви́хꙋ се | And when they saw the writing, they were amazed. |
175: | ҆и рекохꙋ си междꙋ се́бе | And they said to each other: |
176: | фáла бг҃ꙋ | ʺGlory (be) to God!ʺ |
177: | товà сáмь хр͒тось приписа за знаменїе | ʺThe Christ Himself wrote that as a sign!ʺ |
178: | ҆и прославихꙋ бг҃а | And they praised God. |
179: | ҆и по тà̉ꙗ преслáвнаꙗ чꙋдесà верꙋва ҆и жидови́нь во хр͒та | And after these most glorious miracles, the Jew, too, believed in the Christ. |
180: | ҆и покр͒ти (с)е͒ ҆и онь ҆и с͛ьвь домь́ неговь .:. | And he and whole his house got baptized. |
181: | вь слáвꙋ хр͒тꙋ бг҃ꙋ нашемꙋ | In glory of the Christ, our God, |
все́гда ни́нꙗ ҆и присно ҆и во ве́ки | always, now and ever, and forever! | |
