| 7: | i sedeše na edinъ drumъ | And he was sitting on one way. |
| 8: | ta čekaše da doide ot negde nekoja krivačka brašno da si kupi | And he was waiting for (someone with) a handful of flour, so that he could buy. |
| 9: | i vide vraga | And he saw the devil. |
| 10: | ide po putъ | He went on a road. |
| 11: | i igra | And he was dancing. |
| 12: | i pita go ocъ | And the father asked him: |
| 13: | ot kude idešъ vraže pravedni | ʺWhere are you going from, o honorable devil?ʺ |
| 14: | a vragъ reče | And the devil said: |
| 15: | izъ muku večnuju idemъ | ʺI am going from the Eternal Torment.ʺ |
| 16: | pratilъ me e našъ gospodarъ za nekoju potrebu | ʺOur lord has sent me for something needed.ʺ |
| 17: | a koi e vaš gospodarъ | ʺAnd who is your lord?ʺ |
| 18: | ocъ reče | ...the father said. |
| 19: | a diavolъ kaže | And the devil said: |
| 20: | velъzavulъ e ocъ našъ | ʺBeelzebub is our father.ʺ |
| 21: | paki pita go ocъ | The father asked him again: |
| 22: | a za koju potrebu idešъ vraže pravedni | ʺAnd for what need are you going, o honorable devil?ʺ |
| 23: | kaži mi | ʺTell me!ʺ |
| 24: | a vragъ reče | And the devil said: |
| 25: | idem da menuvamъ da važa zlato za seno | ʺI am going to trade, to weigh gold for hay.ʺ |
| 26: | i davamъ srebro za gnili drъva | ʺAnd I give silver for rotten wood.ʺ |
| 27: | i davamъ marъgaritъ za šuma | ʺAnd I give pearls for fallen leaves.ʺ |
| 28: | bezъceni kamene da beremъ da gi nosimъ gdaru moemu u muku večnuju | ʺI (go to) take precious stones to bring them to my lord, into the Eternal Torment.ʺ |
| 29: | ocъ go pita | The father asked him: |
| 30: | vraže što su tova besceni kamene | ʺO devil, what are those precious stones?ʺ |
| 31: | a vragъ se obrъnu | And the devil turned. |
| 32: | i reče | And he said: |
| 33: | ne znaeš li ti što su tova besceni kamene | ʺYou don't know, what are those precious stones?ʺ |
| 34: | tova su sve patriarъsi i vldci i gospodare i knezove i prislušnici i otpadnici | ʺThose are all the patriarchs, and bishops, and lords, and princes, and public servants, and apostates.ʺ |
| 35: | tova se nariča namъ besceno kamene | ʺThat is, what we call precious stones.ʺ |
| 36: | paki pita go ocъ | The father asked him again: |
| 37: | vraže ima li u muka ta kalugere | ʺAre there any monks in the Torment?ʺ |
| 38: | pravo da mi kažešъ | ʺTell me, really!ʺ |
| 39: | i reče vragъ | The devil said: |
| 40: | što se nariča kalugerъ | ʺWhat is called a 'monk'?ʺ |
| 41: | a ocъ mu reče | And the father said to him: |
| 42: | kalugerъ se nariča što nosi černo kato ja | ʺA 'monk' is (one), who wears black (clothes), like me.ʺ |
| 43: | i reče vragъ | And the devil said: |
| 44: | takiva kaponosъci kato tebe mnogo su | ʺThere are many cape-wearers there such as yourself.ʺ |
| 45: | i ne možešъ da pominešъ ot nixъ koito su namъ ugodili | ʺAnd you cannot miss those, who were pleasing to us.ʺ |
| 46: | tamo su | ʺThey are there.ʺ |
| 47: | a koito su blgočestivi xrtiane pravo xodili ne ma tamo | ʺBut of those, who are pious Christians, who walked straight, there are none.ʺ |
| 48: | ni mužъ ni žena | ʺNeither a man, nor a woman.ʺ |
| 49: | paki popita go ocъ | Again, the father asked him: |
| 50: | a ima li u muka ta nekoja xubava merizma | ʺAnd is there any nice scent in the Torment?ʺ |
| 51: | reče vragъ | The devil said: |
| 52: | ne mogu ti iskaza kakovi smradъ ima u muka ta | ʺI cannot describe to you, how much stench there is in the Torment.ʺ |
| 53: | ako bi ti pomerisalъ takovi smradъ umrelъ bi | ʺIf you would smell such a stench, you would die.ʺ |
| 54: | i ako bi videlъ moe lice kakovъ esmъ umrelъ bi ot straxъ | ʺAnd if you would see my face, as I am, you would die of fear.ʺ |
| 55: | no bgъ pokrivaetъ vaši oči da ne vidite naše strašno lice | ʺBut God covers your eyes, so that you don't see our terrible face.ʺ |
| 56: | no koito su u muka ta tia vidatъ naše strašno lice ta ošte poveče da se mučatъ | ʺBut those, who are in the Torment, see our terrible face, so that they are tormented even more.ʺ |
| 57: | reče ocъ | The father said: |
| 58: | vraže donesi mi ot onaja vaša voda da ja vidimъ kakva e | ʺO devil, bring me (a bit) of that water of yours, so that I see, how it is.ʺ |
| 59: | reče vragъ | The devil said: |
| 60: | kogi doidem drugi put xočemъ ti donesti | ʺWhen I'll come next time, I will bring you.ʺ |
| 61: | i donese mu u tikvicu | And he brought him (the water) in a little pumpkin. |
| 62: | i ne može da pomeriše onъzi smradъ | And he could not smell that stench. |
| 63: | no potopi si ocъ malъkia tъ prъstъ | But the father dipped his small finger (into the water). |
| 64: | posle i mi se | Afterwards, he washed himself, |
| i tri se sasъ svekakvi merizlivi travi | and he rubbed himself with all the kinds of aromatic herbs, | |
| dano bi se otmilъ toja smradъ | so that the stench would wash away. | |
| 65: | i ne može da trъpi onъzi smradъ | And he could not suffer that stench. |
| 66: | niti može da xodi | He could neither walk, |
| 67: | niti može da sedi | nor could he sit. |
| 68: | ni dneska ni noštemъ možeše da spit | He could not sleep neither in day, nor in the night. |
| 69: | i nikakvo ne maše mira dogde si ne otseče prъsto | And he had no peace in any way, until he cut off the finger. |
| 70: | čuxъte li xrtiani kakvo e bilo teško i gorъko koi člveъ upadne djavolu u ruke | Did you hear, o Christians, how hard and bitter it is (to one), who falls to the hands of a devil? |
| 71: | ox okajani mie | O miserable us, |
| zašto ne pomislime za tova mesto kakvo e zlo | why don't we think about that how bad is that place, | |
| ta da ne činime edin drugomu zlo | so that we would not do evil to each other? | |
| 72: | zašto da ne reče nekoi | Why does not someone say: |
| 73: | tova ja e bilo ja ne | ʺHey, this has happened, why not?ʺ |
| 74: | i jako ne veruetъ da ima tokova smradъ u muku večnuju a vie uzmete sinъpurъ | And if one does not believe, that there is so much stench in the Eternal Torment, take sulphur! |
| 76: | i turete go na oganъ u xižu | And put it on a fire in a house! |
| 77: | i zatvorete vrata i prozorъci | And close the doors and windows! |
| 78: | i da vidiš | And you may see: |
| 79: | možešъ li trъpeti | Can you stand (the stench)? |
| 80: | zašto sinъpurъ ot muka † ta izlazi | Because sulphur comes from the Torment. |
| 81: | če i lazarъ posede tamo nekoliko vreme | And Lazarus, too, sat there for some time. |
| 82: | i kogi go voskri xrtosъ tri desetъ godinъ požive po voskrnie | And when Jesus resurrected him, he lived for thirty years after (his) resurrection. |
| 83: | i dogde bi živъ nikakvo drugo jadene ne ukusvaše tokmo medъ | And as long as he lived, he ate nothing but honey. |
| 84: | ile drugo nešto sladko edeše | Or he ate something else sweet. |
| 85: | zašto beše mu ogorčalo srdce to ot adovi gorъčila | Because his heart became bitter from the bitternesses of Hades. |
| 86: | i mlozina pituvaxu lazara da imъ kaže što ima u muka ta i kakvo videnie vide tamo | And many were asking Lazarus, to tell them, what is in the Torment, and what sights he saw there. |
| 87: | i ne šteja ništo da imъ kaže | And he did not want to tell them anything. |
| 88: | a drugi kazaxu | And others said. |
| 89: | i rekoxu | And they said: |
| 90: | o gorъko člveku koito xodi da pali seno ili slamu | O, woe to the man, who goes to burn hay or grass, |
| ili xižu ili skurъvi ili | or (who burns) a house, or commits adultery, | |
| okrada člveka ili ukradne ili kradeno krie | or (who) robs (?) a man, or steals, or hides stolen (things), | |
| ili člveka pribie ili ot pijanъsto ne staja i denъ i noštъ | or (who) beats a man, or does not stand up from drinking for the day and night. | |
| 91: | ox teško † ox gorъko tomuva člveku koito stori takiva grexove i ne pokae se | O, (it is) hard and bitter to the man, who does such sins and does not repent! |
| 92: | na što se nada | What can he hope for? |
| 93: | koi šte da go otduma ot muku | Who will persuade him from (not entering) the Torment? |
| 94: | koi šte da go požali | Who will mourn for him? |
| 95: | koi šte da go pokae | Who will repent (for) him? |
| 96: | koi šte da go ottъrve ot tija zli krъvnici diavole | Who will wrestle him from those evil, bloodthirsty devils? |
| 97: | kogi go srešnatъ edni go strašno gledatъ | When they meet him, some look terribly on him. |
| 98: | a drugi go bijatъ prez ♣ oči te i prezъ usta ta | And others beat him through the eyes and the mouth. |
| 99: | a treti go teglatъ sasъ čenъgele | And third ones stretch him with hooks. |
| 100: | a četverъti go plašatъ | And the fourth scare him. |
| 101: | i smejutъ mu se | And they laugh at him. |
| 102: | a peti mu derat koža ta | And the fifth flay his skin. |
| 103: | a šesti mu kopatъ jamu predъ oči te | And the sixth dig a hole in front of (his) eyes. |
| 104: | i igrajutъ | And they dance. |
| 105: | i naklali ognъ u jama ta | And they prepare a fire in the hole. |
| 106: | i skačatъ okolъ jamu | And they jump around the hole. |
| 107: | i pejut | And they sing. |
| 108: | i naričatъ koi šte dneska namъ da priide u muka ta | And they say: ʺWho will come today into our Torment?ʺ |
| 109: | a drugi vragъ kaže | And other devil says: |
| 110: | ne vidiš li brate | ʺDon't you see, o brother?ʺ |
| 111: | ete ženi idatъ u muka ta naša | ʺBehold, women go into our Torment!ʺ |
| 112: | a oni se radvatъ | And they are happy. |
| 113: | i dumatъ si | And they tell each other: |
| 114: | ete ide naša brodnica | ʺBehold, our sorceress!ʺ |
| 115: | i druga ta mcъ svaljala | And another one takes the Moon down. |
| 116: | i zvezdi te prebroila magesnica | And, the sorceress, counted the stars. |
| 117: | a druga si lice to nabelila i načrъvila | And another one bleaches and reddens her face. |
| 118: | taę žena se zove kurъva | That woman is called an adulterer. |
| 119: | i ne xareѯa ju xrtovo lice što ju e dalъ | And she did not like the face of Christ, which he gave her. |
| 120: | no tura na lice to si djavolъski smradъ | But she puts the devilish stinking stuff on her face. |
| 121: | a ne znae li žena če da ju deratъ djavole lice to sasъ vъdici | And the woman does not know, that her face will be torn by the devils with hooks? |
| 122: | o gorko na taja žena koja svezuva muža i ženu | O, woe to the woman, who makes matches between a man and a woman! |
| 123: | o teško koja dade bilъki da isfrъli žena detište | O, it is hard (to the one), who gives herbs to a woman to throw out a child. |
| 124: | o zlo koja žena stori takiva grexove i ne pokae se i ne ostavja se ot magii | O, (it is an) evil, (when a) woman does such sins and does not repent, and does not renounce magic! |
| 125: | sama sebe u jamu zatvara | She closes herself into a pit. |
| 126: | takoi i mužъ koi se ne pokae u jamu na ognъ šte da gori do veka | Thus also a man, who does not repent, will burn in a pit of fire forever. |
| 127: | razumeite | Do mind! |
| 128: | i nakažite se | And teach yourself! |
| 129: | v slva i vo veki | In glory and forever! |
| 130: | amin | Amen. |
