| 6: | ҆имáше ҆еди́нь оц҃ь дх҃о́вникь стáрь калꙋ́герь | Once there was a spiritual father, an old monk. | 
| 7: | ҆и седе́ше на еди́нь дрꙋ́мь | And he was sitting on one way. | 
| 8: | та че́каше да до́йде ѿ не́где не́коꙗ кривáчка брáшно да си́ кꙋ́пи | And he was waiting for (someone with) a handful of flour, so that he could buy. | 
| 9: | ҆и видѐ врáга | And he saw the devil. | 
| 10: | ҆иде по пꙋть | He went on a road. | 
| 11: | ҅и игра | And he was dancing. | 
| 12: | ҆и питá го ҆оц҃ь | And the father asked him: | 
| 13: | ѿ кꙋдѐ ҆идешь врáже прáведни | ʺWhere are you going from, o honorable devil?ʺ | 
| 14: | ҆á врáгь ре́че | And the devil said: | 
| 15: | ҆изь мꙋ́кꙋ ве́чнꙋю ҆иде́мь | ʺI am going from the Eternal Torment.ʺ | 
| 16: | пратил͛ ме е нáшь го́сподарь за не́кою потре́бꙋ | ʺOur lord has sent me for something needed.ʺ | 
| 17: | ҆á ко́й е вáш господáрь | ʺAnd who is your lord?ʺ | 
| 18: | ҆о́ц҃ь ре́че | ...the father said. | 
| 19: | ҆á диаволь кáже | And the devil said: | 
| 20: | вел͛завꙋ́ль е ҆о́ц҃ь нáшь | ʺBeelzebub is our father.ʺ | 
| 21: | пáки питá го ҆о́ць | The father asked him again: | 
| 22: | ҆á за ко́ю потре́бꙋ ҆идешь врáже прáведни | ʺAnd for what need are you going, o honorable devil?ʺ | 
| 23: | кажи́ ми | ʺTell me!ʺ | 
| 24: | ҆á врáгь ре́че | And the devil said: | 
| 25: | ҆идем да менꙋ́вамь да вáжа злáто за се́но | ʺI am going to trade, to weigh gold for hay.ʺ | 
| 26: | ҆и дáвамь сребро̀ за гни́ли дрь́ва | ʺAnd I give silver for rotten wood.ʺ | 
| 27: | ҆и дáвамь марьгари́ть за шꙋма | ʺAnd I give pearls for fallen leaves.ʺ | 
| 28: | безьце́ни кáмене да бе́ремь да гѝ но́симь гд͒арꙋ мо́емꙋ ꙋ мꙋкꙋ вечнꙋю | ʺI (go to) take precious stones to bring them to my lord, into the Eternal Torment.ʺ | 
| 29: | ҆о́ц҃ь го питà | The father asked him: | 
| 30: | врáже що сꙋ̀ това бесце́ни кáмене | ʺO devil, what are those precious stones?ʺ | 
| 31: | ҆á врáгь се ҆о́брьнꙋ | And the devil turned. | 
| 32: | ҆и ре́че | And he said: | 
| 33: | не знáеш ли тѝ що сꙋ̀ товà бесце́ни кáмене | ʺYou don't know, what are those precious stones?ʺ | 
| 34: | товá сꙋ све патриар͛си ҆и влдци ҆и господàре ҆и кне́зове ҆и прислꙋ́шници ҆и ѿпáдници | ʺThose are all the patriarchs, and bishops, and lords, and princes, and public servants, and apostates.ʺ | 
| 35: | товá се нари́ча нáмь бесце́но кáмене | ʺThat is, what we call precious stones.ʺ | 
| 36: | пáки питá го ҆о́ц҃ь | The father asked him again: | 
| 37: | врáже ҆има ли ꙋ мꙋ́ка та калꙋ́гере | ʺAre there any monks in the Torment?ʺ | 
| 38: | прáво да мѝ кáжешь | ʺTell me, really!ʺ | 
| 39: | ҆и ре́че врáгь | The devil said: | 
| 40: | що се нари́ча калꙋ́герь | ʺWhat is called a 'monk'?ʺ | 
| 41: | ҆á ѡц҃ь мꙋ ре́че | And the father said to him: | 
| 42: | калꙋгер͛ се нари́ча що но́си че́рно̀ като̀ ҆ꙗ́ | ʺA 'monk' is (one), who wears black (clothes), like me.ʺ | 
| 43: | ҆и ре́че врáгь | And the devil said: | 
| 44: | таки́ва капоно́с͛ци кàто те́бе мно́го сꙋ | ʺThere are many cape-wearers there such as yourself.ʺ | 
| 45: | и не мо́жешь да поми́нешь ѿ ни́хь ко́йто сꙋ нáмь ꙋгоди́ли | ʺAnd you cannot miss those, who were pleasing to us.ʺ | 
| 46: | тамо сꙋ | ʺThey are there.ʺ | 
| 47: | ҆á ко́йто сꙋ бл҃гочести́ви хр͒тиӑне, прáво ходи́ли не́ ма тáмо | ʺBut of those, who are pious Christians, who walked straight, there are none.ʺ | 
| 48: | ни́ мꙋ́жь ни женà | ʺNeither a man, nor a woman.ʺ | 
| 49: | пáки попи́та го ҆о́ць | Again, the father asked him: | 
| 50: | ҆á и́ма ли ꙋ мꙋ́ка та не́коꙗ хꙋ́бава мери́зма | ʺAnd is there any nice scent in the Torment?ʺ | 
| 51: | ре́че врáгь | The devil said: | 
| 52: | не мо́гꙋ ти ҆исказа како́ви смрáдь ҆има ꙋ мꙋка та | ʺI cannot describe to you, how much stench there is in the Torment.ʺ | 
| 53: | ҆áко би ти померисáль тако́ви смр҆áдь ҆ꙋмрел͛ би | ʺIf you would smell such a stench, you would die.ʺ | 
| 54: | ҆и ако̀ бѝ виде́ль моѐ лицѐ како́вь ҆е́смь ꙋмрел͛ би ѿ стрàхь | ʺAnd if you would see my face, as I am, you would die of fear.ʺ | 
| 55: | но бг҃ь покри́вáеть вáши ҆о́чи да нѐ ви́дите нáше страшно лицѐ | ʺBut God covers your eyes, so that you don't see our terrible face.ʺ | 
| 56: | но ко́йто сꙋ ꙋ мꙋ́ка та тїа видать нáше стрáшно лицѐ та ҆ѡщѐ повече да се мꙋ́чать | ʺBut those, who are in the Torment, see our terrible face, so that they are tormented even more.ʺ | 
| 57: | ре́че оц҃ь | The father said: | 
| 58: | врáже донеси́ ми ѿ онá҆ꙗ вáша во́да да ҆ꙗ ви́димь каквá е | ʺO devil, bring me (a bit) of that water of yours, so that I see, how it is.ʺ | 
| 59: | ре́че врáгь | The devil said: | 
| 60: | когѝ до́йдем дрꙋ́ги пꙋт хо́чемь ти доне́сти | ʺWhen I'll come next time, I will bring you.ʺ | 
| 61: | ҆и доне́се мꙋ ҆ꙋ тиквицꙋ | And he brought him (the water) in a little pumpkin. | 
| 62: | ҆и не можѐ да помери́ше ҆он͛зи смрáдь | And he could not smell that stench. | 
| 63: | но́ потопи си ҆о́ц҃ь мал͛киà ть прь́сть | But the father dipped his small finger (into the water). | 
| 64: | по́сле ҆и ми́ се | Afterwards, he washed himself, | 
| ҆и три́ се сáсь све́какви меризли́ви трáви | and he rubbed himself with all the kinds of aromatic herbs, | |
| дано̀ би се ѿми́ль то́ꙗ смрáдь | so that the stench would wash away. | |
| 65: | ҆и не може да трь́пѝ ҆о́н͛зи смрáдь | And he could not suffer that stench. | 
| 66: | нитѝ може да хо́ди | He could neither walk, | 
| 67: | нитѝ мо́же да седѝ | nor could he sit. | 
| 68: | нѝ дне́ска ни но́щемь мо́жеше да спит | He could not sleep neither in day, nor in the night. | 
| 69: | ҆и никакво не маше ми́ра догде́ си не́ ѿсе́че прьсто | And he had no peace in any way, until he cut off the finger. | 
| 70: | чꙋх͛те ли хр͒тиӑни какво е било те́шко ҆и гор͛ко ко́й чл҃веь ꙋпáдне дꙗ́волꙋ ꙋ рꙋке | Did you hear, o Christians, how hard and bitter it is (to one), who falls to the hands of a devil? | 
| 71: | ѡͯ ҆ѡка҆ꙗни ми́е | O miserable us, | 
| защо̀ не поми́слиме за товà ме́сто какво́ е зло | why don't we think about that how bad is that place, | |
| та дà не чи́ниме един дрꙋ́гомꙋ зло́ | so that we would not do evil to each other? | |
| 72: | защо̀ да не речѐ не́кой | Why does not someone say: | 
| 73: | товà ҆ꙗ е било̀ ҆ꙗ́ не | ʺHey, this has happened, why not?ʺ | 
| 74: | ҆и ҆ꙗ́ко не верꙋ́еть да има токовà смрадь ҆ꙋ мꙋ́кꙋ ве́чнꙋю ҆á ви́е ꙋзмете син͛пꙋрь | And if one does not believe, that there is so much stench in the Eternal Torment, take sulphur! | 
| 76: | ҆и тꙋре́те го на ҆огань ꙋ хи́жꙋ | And put it on a fire in a house! | 
| 77: | ҆и затворе́те врáта ҆и прозор͛ци | And close the doors and windows! | 
| 78: | ҆и да видиш | And you may see: | 
| 79: | мо́жеш͛ ли трьпе́ти | Can you stand (the stench)? | 
| 80: | защо̀ син͛пꙋрь ѿ мꙋка † та ҆излáзи | Because sulphur comes from the Torment. | 
| 81: | че ҆и лáзарь поседѐ тáмо не́колико вре́ме | And Lazarus, too, sat there for some time. | 
| 82: | ҆и коги́ го воск͒ри хр͒то́сь; трѝ де́сеть го́динь поживѐ по воскр͒нїе | And when Jesus resurrected him, he lived for thirty years after (his) resurrection. | 
| 83: | ҆и догдѐ би́ жи́вь ни́какво̀ дрꙋго ҆ꙗ́дене не ꙋкꙋ́сваше то́кмо ме́дь | And as long as he lived, he ate nothing but honey. | 
| 84: | ҆илѐ дрꙋ́го нещо слàдко ҆еде́ше | Or he ate something else sweet. | 
| 85: | защо̀ бе́ше мꙋ ҆ѡгорчало срдце́ то ѿ ҆áдови гор͛чи́ла | Because his heart became bitter from the bitternesses of Hades. | 
| 86: | ҆и мло́зина питꙋвахꙋ лáзара да ймь кáже що́ йма ꙋ мꙋка та ҆и какво̀ видѐнїе виdѐ тáмо | And many were asking Lazarus, to tell them, what is in the Torment, and what sights he saw there. | 
| 87: | [и] не щеꙗ ни́що да имь каже | And he did not want to tell them anything. | 
| 88: | ҆á дрꙋ̀ги казáхꙋ | And others said. | 
| 89: | ҆и ре́кохꙋ | And they said: | 
| 90: | ҅ѡ гор͛ко чл҃ве́кꙋ ко́йто хо́ди да пáли се́но ҆или слáмꙋ | O, woe to the man, who goes to burn hay or grass, | 
| ҆или хи́жꙋ ҆илѝ скꙋр͛ви ҆или | or (who burns) a house, or commits adultery, | |
| ҆ѡк(р)ада чл҃ве́ка ҆илѝ ꙋкрáдне ҆или крáдено кри́е | or (who) robs (?) a man, or steals, or hides stolen (things), | |
| ҆илѝ чл҃ве́ка прїби́е ҆илѝ ѿ пиꙗн͛сто не стáꙗ ҆и день ҆и но́щь | or (who) beats a man, or does not stand up from drinking for the day and night. | |
| 91: | ѡͯ те́шко † ѡͯ гор͛ко томꙋ́ва чл҃векꙋ ко́йто сто́ри; таки́ва гре́хове ҆и не покáе се | O, (it is) hard and bitter to the man, who does such sins and does not repent! | 
| 92: | на що́ се нáда | What can he hope for? | 
| 93: | ко́й ще да го̀ ѿдꙋ́ма ѿ мꙋ́кꙋ | Who will persuade him from (not entering) the Torment? | 
| 94: | ко́й щѐ да го̀ пожáли | Who will mourn for him? | 
| 95: | ко́й щѐ да го̀ покáе | Who will repent (for) him? | 
| 96: | ко́й ще да го̀ ѿт͛рве ѿ тѝꙗ злѝ крьвни́ци диӑволе | Who will wrestle him from those evil, bloodthirsty devils? | 
| 97: | когѝ го сре́шнать ҆едни́ го стрáшно гле́дать | When they meet him, some look terribly on him. | 
| 98: | ҆á дрꙋ́ги го би́ꙗть през [♣] очи́ те ҆и пре́зь ꙋстá та | And others beat him through the eyes and the mouth. | 
| 99: | ҆á тре́ти го теглать сáсь чен͛геле | And third ones stretch him with hooks. | 
| 100: | ҆á четве́р͛ти го плáшать | And the fourth scare him. | 
| 101: | ҆и смеют͛ мꙋ се | And they laugh at him. | 
| 102: | ҆á пе́ти мꙋ дерат ко́жа та | And the fifth flay his skin. | 
| 103: | ҆á ше́сти мꙋ ко́пать ҆ꙗ́мꙋ предь ҆о́чи́ те | And the sixth dig a hole in front of (his) eyes. | 
| 104: | ҆и игрáють | And they dance. | 
| 105: | ҆и наклáли ҆о́гнь ꙋ ҆ꙗ́ма та | And they prepare a fire in the hole. | 
| 106: | ҆и скачать ҆ѡко́ль ҆ꙗ́мꙋ | And they jump around the hole. | 
| 107: | ҆и пеют | And they sing. | 
| 108: | ҆и нари́чать кои́ ще дне́ска нáмь да прїиде ҆ꙋ мꙋ́ка та | And they say: ʺWho will come today into our Torment?ʺ | 
| 109: | ҆á дрꙋ́ги врáгь кáже | And other devil says: | 
| 110: | не ви́диш ли брáте | ʺDon't you see, o brother?ʺ | 
| 111: | ҆ете же́нѝ ҆идать ꙋ мꙋка та наша | ʺBehold, women go into our Torment!ʺ | 
| 112: | ҆á ѡни́ се рáдвать | And they are happy. | 
| 113: | ҆и дꙋмат͛ сѝ | And they tell each other: | 
| 114: | ҆етѐ ҆иде нáша бродни́ца | ʺBehold, our sorceress!ʺ | 
| 115: | ҆и дрꙋгá та мц͒ь свалꙗ́ла | And another one takes the Moon down. | 
| 116: | ҆и звезди́ те пребро́ила маге́сница | And, the sorceress, counted the stars. | 
| 117: | ҆á дрꙋга си лице́ то набе́лила ҆и начрь́вила | And another one bleaches and reddens her face. | 
| 118: | таѧ женà се зовѐ кꙋр͛ва | That woman is called an adulterer. | 
| 119: | ҆и не хáреѯà ю хр͒тово лицѐ що ю́ ѐ дáль | And she did not like the face of Christ, which he gave her. | 
| 120: | но тꙋ́ра на лице́ то си; дꙗвол͛ски смрáдь | But she puts the devilish stinking stuff on her face. | 
| 121: | ҆á не знáе ли женà че да ю де́рать дꙗ́воле лице́ то сáсь вьдици | And the woman does not know, that her face will be torn by the devils with hooks? | 
| 122: | ҆ѡ горко̀ на тáꙗ женà коꙗ све́зꙋва мꙋжа ҆и женꙋ̀ | O, woe to the woman, who makes matches between a man and a woman! | 
| 123: | ҆ѡ те́шко коꙗ дадѐ бил͛ки да ҆исфрьли женà де́тище | O, it is hard (to the one), who gives herbs to a woman to throw out a child. | 
| 124: | ҆ѡ зло ко́ꙗ женà сто́ри таки́ва гре́хове ҆и не покае се ҆и не ҆ѡстáвꙗ се ѿ магїй | O, (it is an) evil, (when a) woman does such sins and does not repent, and does not renounce magic! | 
| 125: | сáма се́бе ҆ꙋ ꙗмꙋ затвáра | She closes herself into a pit. | 
| 126: | тако̀й ҆и мꙋжь ко́й се не покае ꙋ ҆ꙗмꙋ нá о́гнь ще́ да горѝ до ве́ка | Thus also a man, who does not repent, will burn in a pit of fire forever. | 
| 127: | разꙋме́йте | Do mind! | 
| 128: | ҆и накажи́те се | And teach yourself! | 
| 129: | в слва ҆и во в(ек)и | In glory and forever! | 
| 130: | (амин) | Amen. |
