4: da vi skažeme za prežno vreme kakvo mučixu ne čestivi crve xrtiane za veru [Title] May we tell you about the ancient times, how dishonorable kings/emperors tortured Christians for (their) faith!

6: vo crtvo ne čestivago cra dioklitiana veliko gonenie beše na xrtiani There was a great persecution of Christians in the time of dishonorable Emperor Diocletian.
7: u onię vremena i leta crve i boljare i voivodi ne maxu druga griža tъkmo kakvo da mučatъ xrtiane za veru In those times and years, kings and boyars and commanders had no other business, but to torment Christians for (their) faith.
8: i sakaxu da dovrъšatъ xrtianъska vera do konecъ veče da se ne javi xrtianinъ nigde And they wanted to finish the Christian faith, so that there would be no Christian left anywhere.
9: posle crъ ostavi sudnici Then the Emperor placed judges.
10: ostavi voivodi i knezove He placed dukes and princes.
11: i zaprati knigi ferъmane po svi te gradove elinski And he sent forth letters (and) commands to all pagan cities,

21: ako li nekoi se ne pokori na moe povelenie gorъki samrъtъ xoče da priide na nego ʺIf anyone would not subdue to my command, a bitter death will come to him.ʺ

42: ime i beše ѳeodošia Her name was Theodosia.

44: ime mu beše ioaniskosъ His name was Oniscus.
45: bašta mu beše xrtianinъ His father was a Christian.
46: i umre And he died.
47: a maika mu beše vdovica And his mother was a widow.
48: i poklanjaše se na idole And she bowed to idols.
49: sinъ noenъ ostanu Her son was left.

78: i otide oniskosъ sasъ svu voisku po sela i po gradove And Oniscus went with all the army to villages and towns.

97: crъ me pušti da ubivam koi verъva xrta ʺThe Emperor sent me to kill those, who believe in Christ.ʺ
98: a što izide glasъ izъ mlъnie tova e bilъ sam si xrtosъ And the voice, which came out of the lightnings, that was the Christ himself.
99: i reče xrtosъ And the Christ said:
100: sasъ mene li štešъ da se borišъ oniskose ʺYou want to have a fight with me, Oniscus?ʺ
101: a onъ reče And he said:
102: ti koi si gospodarъ ʺWho are you, o lord?ʺ
103: ne znaem te ʺI don't know you.ʺ
104: i toja časъ izleze čtni krtъ And the True Cross appeared in that moment.
105: i javi mu se And it appeared to him.
106: i izide glasъ ot krta And a voice came out of the cross
107: i reče And it said:
108: ja smъ raspeti iisъ xrtosъ sinъ bžii ʺI am the crucified Jesus Christ, Son of God.ʺ
109: togiva mu reče oniskosъ Then Oniscus said to him:
110: gospodine kogi si iisъ xrtosъ pošto te usudixu vldci na samrъtъ ʺIf you are Jesus Christ, why did princes condemn you to death?ʺ
111: i mlogo si postraxuvalъ zaradi xrtiane da gi spišъ u tvoe crtvo nbnoe ʺAnd you suffered a lot for Christians, to save them in your Kingdom of Heaven.ʺ
112: togiva reče xrtos Then the Christ said:
113: oniskose sasъ krъstъ xočešъ da pobedišъ i da nadviešъ na svi te tvoi crove i na svi te crovi voine ʺO Oniscus, with the cross you will defeat and conquer all your kings and all the soldiers of the king.ʺ

135: i zatvori se marъko u svoi domъ And Marko closed himself in his house.
136: i napravi čtnago krta And he made the True Cross.
137: okova go sasъ srebro i sasъ zlato i sasъ dragi besъceni kamene He wrapped it with silver and gold and expensive precious stones.
138: i kogi go svrъši vide marъko na čtnago krta nekoe čudo strašno And when he finished it, Marko saw a terrible miracle on the True Cross:
139: izobrazili se na krto tri obraze Three pictures appeared on the cross.
140: i podъpisani sasъ evreiski slova And (they were) subscribed with Hebrew words.
141: edinъ obraz emanuilъ One picture (was subscribed with) Immanuel.
142: a drugi obrazъ arъxglъ mixailъ And another picture (was subscribed with) Archangel Michael.
143: a treti obrazъ arxglъ gavriilъ And the third picture (was subscribed with) Archangel Gabriel.
144: i marъko pomisli da ostruže tia tri obraze ot krto kato se bexu sami ot samo sebe izobrazili And Marko decided to scratch the three pictures off from the cross, as they appeared from themselves.
145: i posegnu marъko da gi ostruže And Marko touched them to scratch them.
146: i ne može And he was not able.
147: nelo mu ošte isъxna desna ruka For his right hand became dry.
148: i u edna noštъ oniskosъ priide da vidi dali se svrъši čtni krtъ And one night Oniscus came to see, whether the True Cross was finished.
149: i kogi go vide i zaradva se And as he saw it, he rejoiced.
150: i poceluva go And he kissed it.
151: i pita And he asked:
152: što su tia obraze i pismo što se pokazuva namъ ʺWhat are these pictures and the text appearing to us?ʺ
153: marъko reče Marko said:
154: ne znamъ gospodaru ʺI do not know, sir.ʺ
155: ja ne sъm gi pravilъ ʺI did not make them.ʺ
156: sami ot sebe tuka se napisaxa ʺThey were written by themselves.ʺ
157: oniskosъ beše razumenъ Oniscus was rational.
158: i dobre razume kakvo su samotvorъni ot bga And he understood well, that they are self-producing because of God.

161: i posle dade zlataru dovolno groševe And afterwards he gave enough coins to the goldsmith.
162: i zafaljše zlataru And he praised the goldsmith.
163: i uze si oaniskosъ čtnago krta And Oniscus took the True Cross.
164: i otide u aleѯanъdriju grada And he went to the city of Alexandria.
165: tamo se bexu sabrali mnogo agarene Many Hagarenes had assembled there.
166: i po silu plenexu mužie i ženi i momi i deca And they were capturing men and women and girls and children by force.
167: i ne znajaxu kakvo da storatъ siromasi xrtiane da se otbranatъ ot prokleti agarene And the poor Christians did not know, what to do, to defend themselves from the accursed Hagarenes.
168: no plačexu But they cried.
169: i žalexu And they were sad.
170: kogi vide oniskosъ takovo zlo nemu jako dosvide kato ideše tolъkova pisakъ tolъkova varekъ As Oniscus saw such evil, as he went, all the cries and weeping made him angry.
171: i povede svoju voisku po sebe And he led his army with himself.
172: i podъbraxu agarene da se bijatъ And the Hagarenes began to fight.
173: oniskosъ imaše nadežda na čtnago krta da mu pomogne Oniscus had hope in the True Cross, that it helps him.
174: i reče And he said:

181: togiva se oniskosъ uverъva i oslobodi Then Oniscus began to believe and freed himself.
182: i reče na voine svoi And he said to his soldiers:
183: elate po mene da se udarime sasъ agarene ʺCome, let us fight with the Hagarenes!ʺ
184: ja imamъ nadeždu na xrta raspetago da nadviemъ na tri kleti agarene ʺI have a hope in Christ the Crucified, that I will defeat the thrice-accursed Hagarenes.ʺ
185: i z božiem poveleniemъ napade straxъ na agarene And, by the will of God, a fear overcame the Hagarenes.

207: xočatъ da čujutъ drugi te bgove ʺThe other gods will hear (that).ʺ
208: i xočatъ da se rasrъdatъ na tebe ʺAnd they will be angry with you.ʺ
209: i oniskosъ imaše misъlъ kakvo da prevrъne maikju svoju na blgočestivuju veru xrtianъsku And Oniscus had an idea to convert his mother to the honorable Christian faith.
210: i zavede ju tamo pri onija lъžovni bgove And he brought her there, to those false gods.
211: i reče imъ oniskosъ And Oniscus said to them:
212: vie li mi dadoxte silu ta nadvixъ na prokleti agarene ʺDid you give me the power, (by) which I defeated the accursed Hagarenes?ʺ
213: ako budete vie kažete mi ʺIf it is you, tell me!ʺ
214: a ot nixъ ni duma ima And from them, there was not even word.
215: ni glasъ niti čujatъ Nor a voice is heard.
216: paki reče oniskosъ Oniscus said again:

233: i reče And he said:
234: čueš li maiko moę ʺDo you hear, o my mother?ʺ

299: i predъ naroda privedoxa stgo And they brought the saint in front of the people.
300: i obesixa go na drъvo And they hanged him on a tree.

338: i porusi go sasъ vodu po lice And he sprinkled his face with water.

340: i reče mu And he said to him:
341: do sega ti e bilo ime oniskosъ ʺUntil now, your name was Oniscus.ʺ
342: a ot sega na tamъ da bude ime tvoe prokopie ʺBut from now on, may your name be Procopius.ʺ

357: gdъ si otide na nebo The Lord went to the Heavens.
358: sti prokopia ostanu u temnicu zatvorenъ St. Procopius remained incarcerated in a dungeon.
359: kogi bi u jutro mučitel prati člveka u temnicu da vidi eli e živъ prokopia In the morning, the tormentor sent a man to the dungeon to see, whether was Procopius still alive.
360: kogi go vide zdravъ i veselъ počudi se mučitelъ As he saw him healthy and happy, the tormentor was amazed.
361: i mnogo voine rekoxu And many soldiers said:
362: bže prokopovъ pomozi i namъ ʺO god of Procopius, help us too!ʺ
363: a mučitelъ stanu ot stolъ And the tormentor stood up from his throne.
364: i reče And he said:
365: bratie pošto prelъštaete se ʺO brothers, why do you deceive yourselves?ʺ
366: da ne rečete če e xrtosъ ozdravil oniskosa ʺDo not say, that the Christ healed Oniscus!ʺ
367: nelo go ozdravixu naši bgove veliki ʺFor our great gods healed him!ʺ
368: pomiluvaxa go ʺThey gave him mercy.ʺ
369: i dadoxa mu zdravie ʺAnd they gave him health.ʺ
370: reče prokopija Procopius said:
371: ako bude takoi pravo kakvo kažete vie ʺIf it is truly so, what would you say?ʺ
372: ako bude istina i ja da idemъ u kapište ʺIf it is true, then may I go to the temple too.ʺ
373: i tamo šteme poznati istinu ʺAnd there we will know the truth.ʺ
374: A bezumni sudia vozraduva se And the mindless judge became happy.
375: i čineše mu se če šte da se pokloni prokopia na idole te And it seemed to him, that Procopius will bow down to the idols.
376: i reče sudnikъ And the judge said:
377: da očistite putъ ʺClean the way!ʺ
378: i da pometete ot dvorъ moi do kapište idolъskoe ʺSweep (it) from my court to the temple of idols!ʺ
379: i da premenite bgove te naši sve u srebro i u zlato ʺAnd clothe our gods fully in silver and gold!ʺ
380: i propovednici telale ◄ da vikatъ po gradъ da se zbere sъvъ gradъ ʺAnd may the herolds announce across the city, so that the whole city assembles!ʺ

384: i poide po nego narodъ koliko ne može da se izbrojutъ And a people, which cannot be counted, followed him.
385: i reče prokopia na boljare te And Procopius said to the boyars:
386: stoite vie nadvorъ ʺYou stand outside,ʺ
da uleznemъ ja samъ ʺso that I enter alone,ʺ
da se poklonimъ na bogove te vaši ʺso that I bow to your gods,ʺ
da me prostatъ što imъ samъ sogrešilъ ʺso that they forgive me, what I had committed.ʺ

389: i reče sasъ golemъ glasъ And he said with a great voice:

što si ti sotvorilъ sveko zdanie s edna rečъ ʺyou, who has created all the creation by one word,ʺ

391: i sakruši tia prokleti idole ʺAnd destroy those accursed idols,ʺ
da se ne prelъstuva tvoe sozdanie ʺso that your creation does not deceive itself,ʺ
i da se posrami crъ sasъ negovi boljare ʺand that the Emperor and his boyars will be ashamed,ʺ
i svi da poznajutъ če si ti bgъ i vse silenъ crъ nbni ʺand that all know, that you are the God and the all-powerful King of Heavens!ʺ
392: tova reče prokopia Thus spoke Procopius.
393: i toja časъ javi se krtъ na vozduxъ And in that moment the Cross appeared in the air.
394: i fanu apolona sasъ desnu ruku And it seized Apollo with the right hand.
395: i metna go dole na kamikъ And it threw him down on the stone.
396: i stori se praxъ i i pepelъ And he became dust and ash.
397: i tako se rasipa ot vrata do nadvorъ And thus he was crushed from the door to the outside.

401: i svi poveruvaxu vъ xrta And all started to believe in Christ.

403: a stago prokopiju zatvorixu u temnicu And they locked St. Procopius in the dungeon.
404: i u taja noštъ doidoxu sedmъ voivodi i nekoliko voine And in that night, seven commanders and some soldiers came.
405: i pomolixu se stomu da gi krti And they asked the saint to baptize them.
406: i onъ se zaradva And he rejoiced.
407: i pomoli se temničnomu stražaru da go pušti And he asked the dungeon guard to let him out,
da gi vodi o crkvu da gi krti to bring them to a church to baptize them,
i da gi pričesti and to give them the Eucharist,
i paki rano da doide u temnicu and to come back again to the dungeon in the morning.
408: i krti gi And he baptized them.
409: i svu noštъ pouči gi And he taught them for the whole night:
410: dobre razumeite silu xrtovu ʺUnderstand well the power of Christ!ʺ
411: i da pokažete na dalekъ da se ne prelъstuvatъ xrtiane po ne čestivi idole ʺAnd show (it) far, so that Christians will not be deceived by dishonorable idols!ʺ
412: i mene što mučatъ bezumni toja ognъ malъko drъži ʺAnd the fire, (by) which the mindless torture me, holds a little.ʺ
413: no geenъski ognъ nikogi ne ugasnuva ʺBut the fire of Hell is never extinguished.ʺ
414: ox koliko beše prokopia razumenъ O, how wise was Procopius!
415: koliko ne može umъ člvečeski razumeti sasъ takiva dumi How much is human mind unable to understand such words!
416: sti prokopia razgovaraše srdce člvekom koi go sluša St. Procopius spoke to the heart (?) of men, who hear him.
417: takovi beše prokopia mltivъ Such was Procopius - merciful.
418: i kogi bi u jutro prati mučitelъ člveci da privedutъ stago na sudište i tija voine što poverъvaxu vъ xrta And in the morning, the tormentor sent men to bring the saint and the soldiers, who believed in Christ, to the judgement seat.
419: i privedoxa inixъ And they brought (also) others.
420: i sudniko gi pogdeda grozno And the judge looked at them terribly.
421: i reče imъ And he said to them:
422: dali se pokajaxъte ot včerašnia prelъstъ ʺDid you repent for your yesterday's deception?ʺ
423: ili ošte si toja pamet drъžite ʺOr do you still hold on that thought?ʺ
424: paki prokopia reče Again, Procopius said:
425: o bezumni sudniče ʺO you mindless judge,ʺ
ako bude nekoi bezumenъ ot vasъ ʺif there is anyone among you mindless,ʺ
da se otfrъli ot istinago bga ʺmay he renounce the True God,ʺ
što e sozdal nebo i zemlju ʺwho has created the heavens and the earth,ʺ
da se pokloni na gluxi i na nemi bgove ʺlet he bows to the deaf and mute gods!ʺ
426: zaradi tija reči mlogo se rasrъdi mčtelъ Because of these words, the tormentor became very angry.
427: i povele da posečutъ svi te voine predъ oči te stomu prokopiju And he commanded to kill all the soldiers in front of the eyes of St. Procopius.
428: i vide gi sti kakvo blagodarno idexu kato ovci na zakolenie And the saint saw them, how thankfully they went, like sheep to the slaughter.
429: i sotvori sti za nixъ mltvu da gi spodobi bgъ kato i drugi mčnci And the saint prayed for them, so that God makes them worthy (of Kingdom of Heaven) as other martyrs too.
430: i posekoxu svi te voine And they killed all the soldiers.
431: a prokopiju paki zatvorixu u temnicu And they locked Procopius in the dungeon again.
432: i priidoxu i drugi nekoliko ženi And there came also some other women.

434: i oni rekoxu pred narodъ And they said in front of the people:
435: i nie verъvame xrta za istinago bga ʺWe, too, believe in Christ (to be) the True God!ʺ
436: i poklanjamo se emu ʺAnd we bow to him.ʺ
437: i toja časъ mučitelъ zatvori i nixъ u temnicu And the tormentor locked them too into the dungeon in that moment.
438: i okova gi sasъ teško žilezo And he shackled them with heavy iron.
439: prokopia svu noštъ ne spa Procopius did not sleep for the whole night.
440: i nauči gi And he taught them,
da se ne bojutъ ot mučenie so that they don't fear the tortures,
no da blgodaratъ bga but to thank God,
da imъ dade bgъ pomoštъ i trъpenie so that God gives them help and endurance.
441: i privedoxu i ženi te da gi sudi mčtelъ And they brought the women too, so that the tormentor judges them.
442: i reče imъ And he said to them:
443: xočete li da se poklonite na idole te da vi početemъ i mlogo zlato da vi daruvamъ ʺWould you bow to the idols, so that I honor you and give you a lot of gold?ʺ
444: a ženi te mu rekoxu But the women said to him:
445: ti bezumniče imai si tvoju počestъ sasъ tebe ʺO you mindless one, have you honor with yourself!ʺ
446: a nia imamo počestъ raspetago xa ʺAnd we have the honor of Christ the Crucified.ʺ
447: togiva reče mučitelъ Then the tormentor said:
448: skoro obesete gi na drъvo sasъ glavu nadole ʺHang them soon on a tree with head downwards!ʺ
449: i opalete imъ rebra ta sasъ ognъ ʺAnd burn their ribs with fire!ʺ
450: i otrežete imъ sisi te ʺAnd cut off their nipples!ʺ
451: i reče imъ And he said to them:
452: da vidimъ može li da priide raspeti xrtosъ da izbavi vasъ ot ruki moja ʺLet us see, whether Christ the Crucified can come to free you from my hand!ʺ
453: a oni sti ženi rekoxu And those holy women said:
454: xrtosъ ni e pomognulъ ʺThe Christ has helped us.ʺ
455: i da ne bi bila namъ pomoštъ ot xrta bga kakvo bixъme mogli slaba strana ženъska da pretrъpime tolъkova gorki i ne strъpimi muki ʺAnd if there would be no help from Christ the God, how could weak female kind suffer through so bitter and insufferable tortures?ʺ
456: i paki reče ulianъ mučitelъ And again, Ulceius the tormentor said:
457: žilezni ražni razžažete ʺHeat up iron roasters!ʺ
458: i zbodete gi po rebra ta ʺAnd pierce them through their ribs!ʺ
459: i da gi izgoratъ vo mišъci te ʺAnd may they burn them in muscles!ʺ
460: pa posle imъ se prismeja And then he mocked them.
461: i reče And he said:
462: dobrъ li beše ognъ ʺWas the fire good?ʺ
463: izgori li vasъ ʺDid it burn you?ʺ
464: oni mu rekoxu They said to him:
465: namъ bi toja ognъ ugodenъ ʺThat fire was good for us.ʺ
466: zašto nie zaradi xrta straxuvame ʺBecause we suffer for the sake of the Christ,ʺ
da ni uvede vъ carъstvo nbnoe ʺso that he brings us into the Kingdom of Heaven.ʺ
467: a ti okajane xočešъ da gorišъ na geenъski ognъ vo veki vekovъ ʺBut you, o miserable one, will burn in the fire of Hell forever!ʺ
468: mie ot toja ognъ ne boime se ni malo ʺWe fear that fire not the least.ʺ

470: i gledaše kakvo straždexu tija ženi za ime xrtovo And she watched, how those women suffered in the name of Christ.
471: i isplъni se sasъ radostъ And she was filled with joy.
472: i skoro ostavi slavu i boljarъstvo And she soon left glory and pride.
473: i jako i domile kato gledaše onija ženi radosni And it stirred her much, as she was looking at those joyful women.
474: i ona togiva reče And she said:
475: prokopie sinu moi mnogo postradalъ esi xrta radi ʺO Procopius, my son, you have suffered a lot for Christ.ʺ
476: pomeni i materъ tvoju ѳeodošiju dano bi i ja pristupila na veru istinomu bgu iisu xrtu ʺRemember your mother Theodosia, so that I would also come to the faith (in) the True God, Jesus Christ.ʺ
477: kogi ču sudnikъ takviva dumi i vide When the judge heard such words and saw (?),
podivi se kakvo taka skoro poveruva he was amazed, how fast did she start to believe.
478: i reče i And he said to her:
479: gospožde ѳeodošie kakvo skoro prelъsti se ʺO lady Theodosia, how quickly you were deceived!ʺ
480: i ostavila si veliki naši bogove ʺAnd you have left our great gods.ʺ

482: ne smъъ se prelъstila ʺI am not deceived.ʺ
483: no bexъ prelъštena po napredъ kogi opadaxъ sina moego ʺI had been deceived before, as I fell (apart from?) my son.ʺ
484: a sъga bogove vaši xulimъ i proklinjamъ ʺAnd now I slander and curse your gods.ʺ

489: i ona vide onię mučenici And she saw those martyrs.
490: i prekloni imъ se And she bowed to them.
491: i celova imъ okovi te And she kissed their shackles.
492: i celova imъ i rani te gdeto bexu goreni And she kissed their wounds, where they had been burned.
493: i plačeše And she cried.
494: i dumaše And she spoke:
495: tija su rani radi ime xrtovo izgoreni ʺThese wounds are burnt for the name of the Christ.ʺ
496: i pita ju prokopia And Procopius asked her:
497: kakvo tako mti skoro prišla esi na veru ʺO mother, how did you come to faith so fast?ʺ

499: videx dlъgo trъpenie tvoe blžene ʺO blessed one, I saw your long torment.ʺ
500: i počudix se ʺAnd I was amazed.ʺ
501: i pomislixъ sama si ʺAnd I thought (about it) myself.ʺ
502: i rekoxъ ʺAnd I said:ʺ
503: slaba bila ženъska strana ʺThe weak kind was (supposedly) weak.ʺ
504: i toliko teški muki pretrъpexu ʺAnd they suffered through so hard tortures!ʺ
505: i oni me sotvorixu ʺAnd they made me.ʺ
506: i poznaxъ koliko sila ima xrtosъ ʺAnd I understood, how much power the Christ has.ʺ

510: i krti ju And he baptized her.
511: i paki zavede ju u temnicu And he brought her to the dungeon.

513: i pa gi izvedoxu na sudište And they brought them to the judgement seat.
514: i reče ulianъ knezъ And prince Ulikian said:
515: ѳodošie vidišъ li kakvo te požalixъ ʺO Theodosia, do you see, how merciful I am to you?ʺ
516: i do sъga ne mučixъ te ʺAnd I did not torture you until now.ʺ

528: i povele da imъ otsečutъ glavi te And he commanded to cut their heads.
529: i zavedoxa gi do narečenoe mesto And they brought them to the defined place.
530: i preklonixu kolena And they bent their knees.
531: i otsekoxu imъ čtnie glavi And they cut their honorable heads.

534: i reče mu And (the tormentor) said to him:
535: ne sosva li ti tolъkova duši što si prelъstilъ ti ne čestive ʺO you dishonorable one, are those all souls, which you have deceived, not enough for you?ʺ
536: reče emu prokopja Procopius said to him:
537: ne gi samъ prelъstilъ ʺI have not deceived them.ʺ
538: no ot prelъstъ samъ gi vozvratilъ ʺI have returned them from deception.ʺ
539: togiva povele mučitel da bijutъ stago sasъ volovъski žili po srdce to Then the tormentor commanded to beat the saint with oxen sinews on the heart.
540: i ne ma što da napravi sasъ mučenie ulikianъ And Ulceius could not achieve anything with the torture (lit. did not have anything to make).
541: no ot mlogo jadъ upade u bolestъ But from much anger he fell ill.

566: koi se ne pokloni na veliki bogove ot gorъki samrъt xoče da umre ʺ(He,) who does not bow to the great gods, shall die by a bitter death!ʺ
567: a ti verъvašъ nekoego što se e rodilъ ot ženu ʺAnd you believe in someone, who has been born of a woman,ʺ

570: podobno beše o igemone da poznaešъ ʺIt was appropriate, o ruler, for you to know,ʺ
zašto e edinъ bgъ istini što e sozdalъ nebo i zemlju ʺthat there is one True God, who has created the heavens and the earth.ʺ
571: takovago čudnago sozdatelja kakvo da go ne narečešъ bga ʺHow could you not call such a wonderful Creator a God?ʺ
572: a vie eline naričate mlogo bgove ʺAnd you pagans call many gods.ʺ
573: i za prismexъ imate gi u vaše pisanie ʺAnd you have them for mockery in your literature.ʺ

576: o flaviane ako sakašъ po opravno da kažemъ tebe platona vašъ učitelъ kakvo kaže ne su mnogo bgove ugodni ʺO Flavianus, if you want to show you more correctly, what Plato, your teacher, says - many gods are not good (to have).ʺ
577: no edinъ bgъ štoto ne ma samrъtъ ʺBut rather, one God (is good to have), who has no death.ʺ
578: taka i za xrta ti reče bezumni flaviane ʺThus, you said about Christ too, o mindless Flavian,ʺ
če se e rodilъ ot ženu i raspexa go evrei ʺthat he has been born of a woman and the Hebrews crucified him.ʺ
579: ako sakašъ da razumeešъ velikuju silu xrtovu dai mi vreme da samъ živъ ʺIf you want to understand the great power of Christ, give me time to be alive!ʺ
580: i dlъgo potrъpi me ʺAnd make me suffer for long!ʺ
581: i sve po redu da kažemъ tebe ʺAnd I shall tell you everything orderly.ʺ
582: takviva blgi dumi i pravi dumaše sti prokopię Procopius spoke such good and true words.
583: a mučitelъ prifanu tia dumi za lъža But the tormentor took those words for a lie.
584: i reče And he said:
585: koi e xodilъ na nbo ʺHe, who has walked in the heavens,ʺ
i dadoxa mu ključeve na onova blženъstvo ʺand whom they gave the keys of that bliss (?),ʺ
toja e dostoenъ ʺthat one is worthy (to be called God).ʺ
586: no ti da storišъ što ti ja dumamъ ʺBut you better do what I tell you!ʺ
587: da se poklonišъ na bogove te naši ʺBow to our gods!ʺ
588: ako li ne štešъ mnogo muki xočešъ da proteglišъ ʺIf you won't, you will receive a lot of tortures!ʺ
589: reče emu prokopia Procopius said to him:
590: ako ne štešъ da poznaešъ sam si ti istinago bga ti bivaešъ slepъ ʺIf you don't want to know the True God by himself, you are blind.ʺ
591: zakoli i peči člvečesko telo ʺSlaughter and bake the human body!ʺ
592: i jašъ ʺAnd eat!ʺ
593: ja ne poklanjamъ se na kamene i na drъvja i na slepi i na gluxi bgove ʺI do not worship stones and trees, and blind and deaf gods.ʺ
594: no na xrta moego poklanjamъ se ʺBut I do worship my Christ.ʺ
595: i proklinja sti idolъskuju prelъst And the saint cursed the deception of idols.
596: i ne može da trъpi mučitelъ And the tormentor could not suffer anymore.
597: razgneva se He became angry.
598: i reče na ednogo voina ime mu beše arъxeleonъ sasъ mъčъ da poseče stago And he told one soldier, (whose) name was Archelaos, to execute him with a sword.
599: kogi dignu mъčъ da go poseče isъxnu desna ♣ ruka arъxelova When he raised his sword to cut him, the right hand of Archelaos dried up.
600: i pade na zemli And he fell to the ground.
601: i izъdъxnu And he breathed out.
602: kogi vide narodъ takovo čudo podivixu se As the people saw such a miracle, they were amazed.
603: a flavianu umъ otide But Flavianus lost his mind.
604: i po gorъko pomrači se And he became even more darkened.
605: i poče da gleda kato ♣ zmija And he started to watch like a snake.
607: i vrza ruce i noze stomu And he bound the hands and the legs of the saint.
608: izgnete go u temnicu He pressed him into a dungeon.
609: i teško žilezo okova na nego And he put heavy iron (shackles) on him.
610: a preblženi prokopia neprestano bgu moleše se za sъvъ rodъ člvečeski But the most blessed Procopius endlessly prayed to God for all the mankind.
611: i drugo moleše se da se sovrъši mučenie do konca He prayed also for other things: for the torment, to be finished.
612: i minaxu šesъ dni And six days passed.
613: i paki izvedoxu stago na sudište And they brought the saint again to the judgement seat.
614: i reče mu flavianъ And Flavianus said to him:
615: dogde ne sъmъ rastrъzalъ telo tvoe sotvori moe povelenie ʺDo my bidding, until I have not your body torn up!ʺ
616: prokopija reče Procopius said:
617: ete moe telo predъ oči tvoi stoi ʺBehold, my body stands in front of you!ʺ
618: i što xočešъ sasъ nego napravi da ugodišъ na prilični te tvoi besove ʺAnd do what you want with it, so that you make the demons so similar to you happy!ʺ
619: i reče emu knez And the prince said to him:
620: s takviva xulъni tvoi reči na golemu srъdnju podigašъ me ʺYou raise me to big anger with such words.ʺ
621: i po mnogo mučenie da ti damъ ʺAnd I would give you more tortures.ʺ
622: i da se ne nadašъ ʺAnd do not hope,ʺ
če si umorilъ arъxeleona sasъ tvoi magii ʺ(that,) as you killed Archelaos with your sorcery,ʺ
da se izbavišъ ot moi ruce ʺthat you will save yourself from my hands!ʺ
623: i paki reče And he said again:
624: prostrete go na zemli ʺStretch him on the ground!ʺ
625: i da go biete četvorica sa surovi žili volovъski ʺAnd (you) four, beat him with raw oxen sinews!ʺ
626: i na plešti te mu turete razъžaženi uglie ʺAnd throw heated coal on his shoulders!ʺ
627: i prokopia ne boeše se ot bolesti And Procopius did not fear pain.
628: no mnogo ganadeše flaviana But he cursed at Flavianus a lot.
629: i reče mu And he said to him:
630: sine bezakoni i zlomisalъniče večnoe mučenie ʺO you bastard and evil-thinker, (you may await nothing than?) eternal torment!ʺ
631: ja druga radostъ ne mamъ ot takovo no za xrta moego straždemъ do sъga ʺI have no other joy than to suffer for my Christ up to now!ʺ
632: togiva flavianъ reče Then Flavian said:
633: skoro ognъ prigotvete ʺPrepare the fire soon!ʺ
634: i ražni razъžežete ʺAnd heat up roasters,ʺ
da go bodete po rani te ʺso that you pierce him on his wounds,ʺ
i po sve to telo da go zbodete ʺand that you pierce him on the whole body!ʺ
635: i da smešate ljuti ocetъ i sulimenъ da mu ulivate rani te ʺAnd mix strong vinegar with a corrosive salt (?), to pour it on his wounds!ʺ
636: i tova sasъ blgodarenie prokopia pretrъpe And with thankfulness, Procopius endured.
637: i neprestano xuleše na idole And he cursed the idols without a pause.
638: i drugo zlo pomisli si flavianъ And Flavianus thought of another evil.
639: zavede stago u edno kapište He brought the saint to a pagan temple.
640: i nasipa mu u desnu ruku ognъ And he poured fire (?) on his right hand.
641: i na ogъnja turi ѳemjanъ dano bi mu dosadilъ ognъ And he put thyme on the fire, so that the fire annoys him.
642: i privede go blizu pri idola And he brought him close to and idol,
dano bi frъlilъ predъ idola ѳemjano so that he would throw the thyme in front of the idol,
i da se nareče kakvo prinese mltvu na idole prokopia and so that they would say, that Procopius made an offer to idols.
643: tako misleše flavianъ nesmislenikъ Thus thought the fool Flavianus.
644: a sti prokopia stoeše krepъko And Procopius stood staunchly.
645: i u ruku drъžeše ognъ dogde mu sve izgore ruka ta And he held the fire in his hand, until the hand burned totally.
646: i flavianъ stoi And Flavianus stood.
647: ta gleda And he watched.
648: i mnogo narodъ okolъ nego And a lot of people (is) around him.
649: i pogleda sti gore na nbo And the saint looked up to the heavens.
650: i reče And he said:
651: udrъžaxъ ruku moju desnuju ʺI held fast my right hand (in the fire).ʺ
652: i imaxъ muku žileza teški na mišъci moę ʺAnd I had tortures, heavy irons on my muscles.ʺ
653: i slava moę i pomoštъ budetъ spasenię moemu gdi ʺAnd my glory and help will be for the sake of my salvation (?), o Lord!ʺ
654: i s desnicu tvoju priimi me ʺAnd receive me with your right hand!ʺ
655: i pomozi mi ʺAnd help me!ʺ
656: ne pravedni sudia počudi se The unjust judge was amazed.
657: i reče And he said:
658: o mužeska sila prokopova ʺO, (behold) the manly strength of Procopius!ʺ
659: i paki reče sudię And the judge said again:
660: ti si reklъ kako ne useštašъ mučenie ʺYou said, that you do not feel the torture.ʺ
661: a zašto uzdъxinjašъ ot srdce ʺSo why do you moan from the heart?ʺ
662: i reče mu sti And the saint said to him:
663: da ne rečešъ če mi dosadi ot mučenie i bolestъ telesnaja ʺDo not say, that I am annoyed by the torture and bodily pain!ʺ
664: ta uzdъxnuxъ i proslъzix se radi tvoe bezumie ʺI moaned and shed tears because of your folly,ʺ
kakvo ne možešъ da poznaešъ istinago bga ʺas you are unable to understand the True God!ʺ
665: i poklanjašъ se na nemi idole ʺAnd you (still) bow to deaf idols!ʺ
666: i zaradi tova čeka tebe ne gasimi ognъ ʺAnd because of that an inextinguishable fire is awaiting you.ʺ
667: i drugo mučenie pomisli flavianъ po gorъko And Flavianus thought of another, more bitter torture.
668: i reče da obesutъ stago za mišci te And he commanded to hang the saint by arms,
i teški kamen da obesutъ na noze te mu i and to hang a heavy stone on his legs,
da se rastrъzne sve telo to negovo so that his body is fully ripped apart.
669: i ni edno zlo ne priide stomu i ot tova And not even one evil came to the saint from that.
670: i paki reče flavianъ And again, Flavianus said:
671: napalete peštъ do sedmъ puti ʺIgnite a furnace seven times!ʺ
672: i frъlete go u pešta ʺAnd throw him into the furnace!ʺ
673: i privedoxu voine stago pri usta ta peštni And the soldiers brought the saint to the mouth of the furnace.
674: i prekrъsti se sti prokopia And Procopius crossed himself.
675: i izide plamenъ izъ pešta And a flame came out of the furnace.
676: i pogori svi te voine što bexu tamo And it burned all the soldiers, who were there.
677: kogi vidoxu takovo čudo eline ot straxъ potreperaxu When the pagans saw such a miracle, they trembled from fear.
678: i uboęxu se And they feared.
679: i viknaxu koliko možatъ And they cried as much as they could.
680: o kneze flaviane dokogi štešъ da drъžiš togova magesnika ʺO prince Flavianus, how long do you want to hold that sorcerer?ʺ
681: sъvъ gradъ xoče da se pokrti ot nego ʺThe whole city will get baptized because of him!ʺ
682: i vide mučitelъ če ne može da preobrъne stago sa nikakvo mučenie And the tormentor saw, that he cannot convert the saint with any (kind of) torture.
683: tъkmo umisli da go poseče He thought just to kill him.
684: i povele na voine da go izvedutъ vonъ iz grada i da go posečutъ And he commanded his soldiers to bring him out of the city to kill him.
685: kogi doide sti do narečenoe mesto i poreče na voine da go ostavatъ da se pokloni bgu When the saint came to the said place, he commanded the soldiers to let him to bow to God.
686: i stanu na istokъ And he stood towards the East.
687: i dignu ruce And he raised the hands.
688: i reče And he said:
689: bže začuvai gradъ i ljudie ot prelъst vražni ʺO God, protect the city and the people from the deception of the Enemy!ʺ
690: i da prosvetitъ eline da stanutъ xrtiani ʺAnd may the pagans are enlightened to become Christians!ʺ
691: i svi da se spodobutъ ʺAnd may all become worthy!ʺ
692: i da vnidutъ va crtvo nbno ʺAnd may they enter the Kingdom of Heaven!ʺ
693: tova reče prokopija Thus spoke Procopius.
694: i doide glasъ ot nebesa And a voice came from the heavens:
695: priidi prokopie ʺCome, Procopius!ʺ
696: i priimi ugotovanъ tvoi venecъ ʺAnd accept the wreaths prepared for you!ʺ
697: i da spodobiši se vo crtvo nbnoe ʺAnd may you be worthy in the Kingdom of Heaven!ʺ
698: i prekloni glovu And he bowed his head.
699: i posekoxa go mca iulia vъ *i* denъ And they killed him on the 8th day of Month July.
700: i otide emu blženaja dša sa miromъ na nbsa And his blessed soul went in peace to the heavens.

705: može li člvekъ tolъkova muki pretrъpeti Can anyone endure so much torture?
706: to da ne bi pretrъpeli i ne bi se posvetili If they would not endure, they would not become saints.
707: i pogreboxu čtnoe telo ego And they buried his honorable body.
708: vo slavu oca i sina i stago dxa In glory of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
