10: Тáꙗ бл҃же́наꙗ та҆исїа млáда деви́ца бе́ше That blessed Thaïs was a young maiden
11: ҆имаше ҆о́на мá҆икю She had a mother
12: подобна бе́ше ҆и гото́ва на срáмное безꙋмїе She was likened (to her evil) and ready for a shameful madness
13: ҆и бе́ше на гледáне ҆ꙗ́ко хꙋбава And she was very beautiful to look at
14: ҆и фанꙋ тá҅исїю дьщерь сво́ю за рꙋкꙋ And she took her daughter Thaïs by the hand
15: ҆и заве́де ю на скꙋ́тно ме́сто пагꙋбно And she took her to a ruinous secret place
16: и предаде ю на мꙋжїе безако́ници да сѝ погꙋ́би дш҃ꙋ And she handed her over to lawless men to make her lose her soul
17: ҆и прочꙋ се ҆име ҆и хꙋбось лицѐ но́҆ино по сви́ стрáне And her name and the beauty of her face became notorious in every land
18: ҆и чꙋдехꙋ се And people were wondering
19: ҆и млого лꙋге прихо́дехꙋ да ю ви́дать лице́ то ҆и хꙋбос та And many people were coming to see her face and beauty
20: ҆и кой ю ви́ди мло́го й прино́сехꙋ име́нїе сре́бро ҆и злáто ҆и ризи хꙋ́бави ҆и дре́хи сви́лени ҆и светли́ви ҆и дрáги And whoever saw her, brought to her a large fortune - silver, gold, nice shirts and shiny, expensive silk clothes
21: ҆и мло́го мар͛гари́ть ю дáвахꙋ токо̀ да ю ви́дꙋть лице́ то ҆и да си сотво́рꙋть хоте́нїе же́н͛ско сáсь ню And they gave her many pearls just to see her face and to do the woman's lust with her
22: ҆и едни ҆излáзехꙋ Some were going out
23: ҆á дрꙋ́ги при́хо́дехꙋ And others were going in
24: ҆и мно́го сре́бро ҆и ѕлáто спе́чали And she earned a lot of silver and gold
25: ҆и ми́нꙋ неколико вре́ме And some time passed
26: дочꙋль бе́ше ҆еди́нь ҆ꙗ́гꙋмень стáрь колько до девет десеть го́динь And an abbot had heard, as old as ninety years
27: ҆и ѡбле́че се ꙋ белѝ дре́хи And he put on white clothes
28: ҆и ꙋзе ҆еди́нь злáтникь And he took a gold coin
29: ҆и ѡти́де при́ тайсїю And he went to Thaïs
30: ҆и стáнꙋ при́ ню And he came to her
31: ҆и дáде и ѕлáтнико And he gave her the gold coin
32: ҆о́на го ҆ꙋ́зе She took it
33: ҆и ре́че мꙋ And she said to him
34: влезнѝ ꙋ кле́ть мо́й ʺCome into my roomʺ
35: и онь ю пове́де And he led her
36: ҆и вле́зе ꙋ кле́ть сáсь ню̀ And he went into the room with her
37: ҆и виде ҆о́д͛рь висо́кь нáслꙗнь And he saw a high, prepared bed
38: ҆и се́днꙋ таисїа нà ҆одрь And Thaïs sat down on the bed
39: ҆и поче да зовѐ ҆игꙋмена нá ҆о́дрь And she began calling the abbot to the bed
40: ҆и он се ꙋкáчи And he got on
41: ҆и седе сáсь ню And he sat with her
42: ҆и рече и And he said to her:
43: ҆има ли не́где дрꙋги кле́ть ʺIs there another room somewhere?ʺ
44: та да йдеме тàмо да лежи́ме да ни не ви́ди ни́кои ʺSo we go lie there so no one sees usʺ
45: ҆á та҆сїа ре́че ҆игꙋ́менꙋ And Thaïs said to the abbot:
46: ҆или се ѿ лꙋ́ге срáмꙋвашь ʺEither you feel ashamed in front of peopleʺ
47: ҆и тꙋка да лежи́ме никои ни не ви́ди; ʺIf we lie here, no one sees usʺ
48: ҆или́ се ѿ бг҃а бо́ишь ʺOr you are afraid of Godʺ
49: то како би́ се скрил ҆и под землю ҆и тáмо бг҃ь ви́ди ʺEven if you hide under the earth, God sees there tooʺ
50: като́ чꙋ; дх҃о́вникь та҆ꙗ́ дꙋма ѿ ню ҆á онь ю̀ ре́че When the cleric heard these words from her, he said to her
51: ви́диш ли бг҃а тѝ блꙋ́днице ʺYou do know (lit. see) God, o you harlot?ʺ
52: ҆о́на ре́че She said:
53: ҆е́и ви́димь цр͒тво ҆и мꙋ́ка ꙋ не́го ҆есть ʺYes, I know (lit. see), (that) the Kingdom (of Heaven) and the (Eternal) Torment are His.ʺ
54: тá й ре́че дх҃о́вникь So the cleric said to her:
55: ти когѝ ви́дишь бг҃а ҆а защо галáтишь чл҃веци ʺIf you see God, then why do you deprave people?ʺ
56: ҆о́нà чꙋ тáꙗ дꙋма ѿ дх҃о́вника She heard these words from the cleric
57: ҆и паде на но́зе дх҃о́вникꙋ And she fell at the cleric's feet
58: ҆и фáнꙋ да плáче And she began crying
59: ҆и ре́че And she said:
60: ҆ꙗ́ ви́димь ʺI seeʺ
61: до́иде; вре́ме да сѐ ҆ѡстáвимь ѿ това ѕло́е сотворе́нїе мо́е ҆и покаꙗнїе согреше́нїемь; мо́ймь ʺThe time has come for me to leave this evil doing of mine and to repent for my sinsʺ
62: но ти́ ҆о́че поче́каи ме токо̀ трѝ чáса ʺBut you wait for me for just three hours, fatherʺ
63: ҆и да сотво́ришь какво̀ ти сáкашь ʺAnd you will do whatever you wantʺ
64: ҆и да би́хь се поплакáла ѿ гре́хове мо́й що смь ги сотвори́ла ʺAnd I would cry a little about my sins that I have commitedʺ
65: ѡͯ ꙋвии ҆ѡка҆ꙗна ҆ꙗ́ ʺOh, woe to poor me!ʺ
66: ҆о́нь ю рече He said to her:
67: ти́ таисїе хо́чешь да полꙋчишь проще́нїе грехо́вь тво́йхь ʺThaïs, you are going to be forgiven for your sinsʺ
68: ҆á ҆о́на: тоги́ва ꙋзе све ҆имане сво́е ҆о́каꙗное що бе́ше спечалила сáсь кꙋр͛вар͛ство And she then took all her despicable fortune she had earned with adultery
69: ҆и даде го свѐ на сиромáси And she gave it all to the poor
70: бе́ше спечали́ла до четири сто́тинь ли́три злáто She hoared up to four hundred pounds of gold
71: ҆и ѡтидѐ по дх҃о́вника да се покае за гре́хове сво́й And she followed the cleric to repent for her sins
72: ҆и фанꙋ ю дх҃овникь за рꙋ́кꙋ And the cleric took her by the hand
73: ҆и заведе ю ꙋ мн͒трь дв҃ически And he took her to a convent
74: ҆и затворї ю ꙋ еди́нь затворець мáнечкь And he locked her up in a small prison
75: ҆и запечáти ю сáсь ҆о́лово And he sealed her up with lead
76: ҆и ѡстави мал͛ки прозоре́ць коли́ко да ю подава хле́бь ҆и мало водꙋ And he left a small window just that he could hand her bread and a little water
77: ҆и това по еднꙋшь днеска And that once a day
78: ҆и товà сáсь ме́рꙋ And that with measure
79: ҆и рече дх҃овникꙋ: таисїа And Thaïs said to the cleric:
80: где ҆очѐ на про́ходь дá йдемь ʺWhere should I go for a pass?ʺ
81: ҆á дꙋхо́вникь ре́че And the cleric said:
82: ꙋ келїю тꙋка е те́бе достоино да бꙋ́дет ʺIt is proper for you to be here in the cellʺ
83: пáки ре́че тáйсїа Again, Thaïs spoke:
84: како ми ҆о́че вели́ши да мо́лимь бг҃а да ме про́сти гд͒ь бг҃ь ѿ гре́хь мо́й ʺHow do you order me to ask God to forgive me for my sin?ʺ
85: ҆á дх҃о́вникь ю кáже And the cleric said to her:
86: ти ҆ѡще не сѝ досто́ина да поме́нешь име гд͒не ʺYou are still not worthy of mentioning the name of Godʺ
87: ҆и ꙋста тво́и мрьсни сꙋть And your mouth is foul
88: ни́ рꙋце твои мо́жешь дигнꙋ́ти на бг҃а You cannot raise your hands to God either
89: защо сꙋ ҆и рꙋце те ти мрь́сни ҆и безако́ни ʺFor your hands are foul and lawless tooʺ
90: но токо гле́даи нá йстокь ʺBut just look to the Eastʺ
91: ҆и дꙋмáй ʺAnd say:ʺ
92: ти си ме создáль ʺYou have created meʺ
93: поми́лꙋи ме ʺHave mercy on meʺ
94: ҆и седѐ тáйсиа затворе́на три го́динь And Thaïs sat locked up for three years
95: ҆и ҆ѡтиде дꙋховникь при ст҃аго вели́каго ҆áнѳо́нию: да ви́ди дали ҆опро́сти гд͒ь тайсию ҆или не And the cleric went to St. Anthony the Great to see if God had forgiven Thaïs or not
96: и ан͛ѳонїꙗ призовà сн҃ове сво́й And Anthony called his sons
97: ҆и рече ҆имь And he said to them:
98: затворе́те се све́ки ꙋ свою̀ келїю тꙋю но́щь ʺClose yourselves, everyone to his cell this night!ʺ
99: ҆и да помо́лите бг҃а за та҆исїю да ви бг҃ь ҆ꙗ́ви неко́и белекь за ню ноще́ска ʺAnd pray to God for Thaïs that God gives you a sign for her in the nightʺ
100: ҆и затвори́хꙋ се ꙋ келїю And they locked themselves up in the cells
101: ҆и виде пáвель ꙋченїкь анѳо́нинь And Paul, a student of Anthony's, saw:
102: [се] ѿвори́ли се нб҃са Behold, the heavens were open!
103: ҆и виде́ль And he saw
104: ҆о́дрь светѝ като; звездà A bed shines like a star
105: ҆и три деви́ци стою́ть прѝ ҆о́дрь And three maidens stand next to the bed
106: та го̀ чꙋвать And they protect it
107: ҆и ѡколь од͛ро све́щи све́тꙋть And candles shine around the bed
108: ҆и вене́ць на ҆од͛рь стоеше гото́вь, And a wreath was lying ready on the bed
109: ҆и пáвель като видѐ ҆á онь рече And when Paul saw it, he said:
110: комꙋ е пригото́вень тоꙗ венець ʺFor whom is that wreath prepared?ʺ
111: или е ҆о́ц҃ꙋ мое́мꙋ ҆áнѳонїю ʺOr is it for my father Anthony?ʺ
112: ҆и прїиде им глáсь And a voice came to them
113: ҆и дꙋмаше And it was saying:
114: не ѐ то́ꙗ вене́ць ҅оц҃ꙋ твое́мꙋ ҆áнѳонїю но е таисїе блꙋ́днице ʺThat wreath is not for your father Anthony, but for the prostitute Thaïsʺ
115: ҆и ѡпрости ю гд͒ь согрешенїе що бе́ше бг҃ꙋ прегреши́ла And God forgave her the sin she had commited
116: товá чꙋ тайсиа Thaïs heard this
117: ҆и поче да сѐ моли дх҃овникꙋ And began begging the cleric
118: ҆и дꙋмаше мꙋ And she was saying to him:
119: ҆ѡстави́ ме ҆о́че тꙋка до самрьт мою ʺFather, leave me here until my deathʺ
120: че́ смь много гре́шна ʺFor I am very sinfulʺ
121: та хо́че ли гд͒ь бг҃ь да ѡпро́сти гре́хи мо̀ꙗ ʺSo is God going to forgive my sins?ʺ
122: ҆и рече ҆ей ҆оц҃ь And the father said to her:
123: прости́л͛ те е гд͒ь тайсие ʺGod has forgiven you, Thaïsʺ
124: ҆и стро́ши ҆оц҃ь ҆о́ловени печáти And the father broke the lead seals
125: ҆и їзве́де ю нáдворь And he took her out
126: ҆и рече бл҃же́наѧ тáйсиа And the blessed Thaïs said:
127: фани́ ми ве́рꙋ ʺBelieve me!ʺ
128: ҆о́ч҃е ѿ какво̀ вле́зохь ꙋ тꙋю хи́жицꙋ ʺFather, from when I entered this cabinʺ
҆и като: тол͛кова гре́хь бе́хь сотвори́ла ʺand I had commited so much sinʺ
҆и ѡще не́ бех се добрѐ покаꙗла ʺand I had still not repented enoughʺ
҆и като че доиде не́що ʺit is as if something cameʺ
129: та мѝ свали те́шко бре́ме ѿ грьби́нꙋ ʺand it took a heavy burden off my backʺ
130: ҆и стáнꙋ ми леко ҆етѐ ҆и до то҆ꙗ́ чáсь ʺAnd I felt light, up until this hourʺ
131: токо́ товà ре́че She said just this
132: ҆и предáде бг҃ꙋ дх҃ь And she gave her soul to God
133: ҆и полꙋчи́ цр҃тво нб҃ное And she received the heavenly kingdom
134: ҆ѡ вели́ка похвáла ҆и покаꙗнїе Oh great praise and repentence!
135: ви́дите ли коли́ко бг҃ь милꙋ́ва члове́ка ко́й се покáе за гре́хь сво́и Do you see how much God loves man, who repents for his sin?
136: нали чꙋ́ете какво̀ казꙋва ꙋ ст҃ое писáнїе You hear what it says in the Holy Scripture
137: бг҃ь знáе защо̀ нїе кáта чáсь гре́шаме бг҃ꙋ God knows why we sin against God every hour
138: но ни се мло́го срь́ди But He is very angry at us
139: защо се не покáеме For we do not repent
140: ҆и да се сети́ме за нашїꙗ гре́хь And let us become aware of our sin.
141: да рече́ме Let us say:
142: ѡͯ бж҃е ми́ли сега ҆ꙗ́ те́бе ҆еди́номꙋ согреши́хь ʺOh dear God, against You only have I now sinned!ʺ
143: ҆á ѿ те́бе бж҃е не ѿстꙋпи́хь ʺBut I have not stepped away from Youʺ
144: затовà да рече́ме Because of this let us say
145: бж҃е создáви ме поми́лꙋи ме ʺO God, (who) had created me, have mercy with me!ʺ
146: ҆и бг҃ь е дль́го трьпели́вь And God is very patient
147: ҆и мно́го е мл̂ти́вь And He is very merciful
148: ҆и не ѡстáв҆ꙗ́ рабà своего̀ да вапáдне диáволꙋ ꙋ рꙋке And He does not let His servant fall into the hands of the Devil
149: ҆á ко́й сто́ри не́кой гре́хь тежек ҆и не покае́ се ѡͯ те́шко ҆и гор͛ко томꙋ́ва чл҃ве́кꙋ And he, who commits some heavy sin and does not repent, oh woe unto this man!
150: ҆áко не ꙋмешь да сѐ поклáнꙗшь; ҆или не щешь да поплáчеш ѿ своѐ согреше́нїе ҆á не можеш ли да рече́шь If you cannot bow or you do not want to cry about your wrongdoing, can you not say:
151: гд͒и поми́лꙋи ме гре́шнаго ʺGod, have mercy on sinful me!ʺ
152: ҆или ҆áко е женà пáки тако да рече́ .:. Or if it is a woman, she should again say thus
153: еи́ же слáвꙋ возь҆исилаем ҆о́ц҃ꙋ:. For her I send glory to the Father
