6:	ʾá wnoi mom͛če stáne záranь	And that boy gets up in the morning
7:	ta podbére gúski te	so he collects the geese
8:	ʾi minuva po krai vráta ta gradski	And he walks by the town's doors
9:	ʾi prizira na obrázь st̃ago ïwʾanà	And he looks at the image of St. John
10:	ʾi píše sásь prьsь na pésakь	And he writes with his finger on the sand
11:	ʾi dumaše	And he was saying
12:	gd͒i dáĭ mi da se naúčimь da prepíšemь toʾjá ʾóbrázь	ʺLord, allow me to learn how to copy that imageʺ
13:	žáli mi dš̃a ta da bi se izьʾučílь	ʺMy soul desires that I would be able to learnʺ

16:	ʾi ne prestáʾjáše	And he was not stopping
17:	ʾi kato píšeše sasь prь´sь po pes͛kь	And as he was drawing with his finger on the sand
	ʾi prïide st̃i ʾiʿwanь bg̃oslovь ʾočívesno pri negw	St. John the Evangelist came to him clearly
18:	[i] réče mu	And he said to him:
19:	što právišь tovà gusaru	ʺWhy are you doing this, o Gusar?ʺ
20:	sasь prьsti po pés͛kь píšešь	ʺYou are writing with fingers on the sandʺ
21:	ʾi gusarь réče ʾiwanu	And Gusar said to John:
22:	ʾidi	ʺGoʺ
23:	vozri na vráta grádu	ʺLook at the town's doorsʺ
24:	ʾi višь ʾóbrazь iwanu bg̃oslóvu	ʺAnd see the the image of John the Evangelistʺ
25:	ʾi nego tréto léto učim͛ se	ʺI am learning it for the third yearʺ
26:	ʾi pišem po pésku	ʺAnd I draw on the sandʺ
27:	ʾi reče mu st̃i ʾiʿwanь	And St. John said to him:
28:	ʾá xóčešь li ʾikóni da sè učišь da píšešь	ʺDo you want to learn to draw icons?ʺ
29:	réče ʾemu gusárь	Gusar said to him:
30:	sáka mi srdce da sè naučimь	ʺMy heart wants me to learnʺ
31:	togíva ïwʾanь uze però ʾi mastìlo	Then John took a feather and ink

58:	ʾá edínь cr̃evь čl̃vekь réče xʾináru	And one king's man said to Chēnarios:
59:	napíšeté mi ʾikonu vo ʾóbrazь st̃ágo iʾwana bg͂oslóva	ʺDraw for me an icon in the image of St. John the Evangelistʺ
60:	ʾúze máʿistorь xinárь potrébïju bojù	Master Chēnarios took paint
61:	ʾi dade ju gusáru	And gave it to Gusar
62:	ʾi reče mu	And he said to him:

70:	prigladúvamь mésto da pišeme ʾikonu ïʾwana bg̃oslóva masteru móʿemu	ʺI am evening the place to draw an icon of John the Evangelist for my masterʺ
71:	ʾi rečé mu ʿiw´ănu	And John said to him:
72:	stáni	ʺGet up!ʺ
73:	pišì	ʺDraw!ʺ
74:	ʾi uze però	And he took a feather
75:	ʾi napisá ʾóbrázь na d͛sku	And he drew an image on the board
76:	ʾizide svetlóstь	Light came out
77:	ʾi prosvetí se dvórь wt ikonu katò wt sl͂nce	And the court lightened up from the icon like from the sun
78:	ʾá gusarь fánu da pláče	And Gusar began to cry

82:	ʾi onь počè da sè čúdi kakvó bi tova ne domísleno čudw	And he began wondering what this not thought out .......... was
83:	ʾi kazaxu cr̃u	And they told the king

85:	ʾima ʾu tvoégo píscà učenikь tréti dénь kakvó e došélь da se uči	ʺIn your court there is a painter, a student for the third day, who has come to learnʺ

90:	ʾi zanésoxa ju prí cr̃a	And they brought it to the king
91:	ʾi kato jù: vidè cr̃ь ʾi nego ʾwbidè stráxь wt svetlósti ʾikóni	And when the king saw it, a fear of its brightness took over him
92:	ʾi katò zásrami se cr̃évь pisécь wt cr̃evi nastoínici	And when the king's painter got ashamed in front of the king's officials,
	ʾi wní si meždù sébe dúmaxu	they were saying to each other:
93:	ʾučeníko ʾšte da nadpíše maĭstora	ʺThe student will outdraw the masterʺ
94:	ʾá drugi rékoxu	And others said:
95:	maĭstorь šte da nadpíše	ʺThe master will outdraw (him)ʺ
96:	ʾa cr̃ь réče	And the king said:
97:	ʾja pravo súdimь koi kogò šte dá nadpíše	ʺI will rightly judge who will outdraw whomʺ
98:	da napíšete dvà ʾor͛là u móĭ dvoróve	ʺYou will draw two eagles in my courtsʺ
99:	ʾedinь pišéte na sténu	ʺOne you draw on the wallʺ
100:	ʾi drúgi blízu pri négo páki na sténu napíšéte	ʺAnd the other you draw close to it again on the wallʺ
101:	ʾi ʾjá da zémemь sokólь móĭ da go púštimь	ʺAnd I will take my falcon to let it goʺ

107:	ʾed´inь pisa ʾednogo ʾorla	One drew the one eagle
108:	ʾá drugi pisa drúgago	And the other one drew the other
109:	ʾi gledaxu luge máĭstore va pisanïę	And people were looking at the masters' drawings
110:	ʾi dúmaxu	And they were saying
111:	ne ma u tója st̃ь takvóvo	ʺThere is no such thig in this world!ʺ
112:	ʾi pogledvaxu gusárovo pisanïe	And they were looking at the Gusar's drawing
113:	ʾi umь ʾimь zanóseše wt xubóstь čísto ʾi čt͒no	And their mind was overcame purely and truly by the beauty
114:	ʾá cr͂ь uze sokólь	And the king took the falcon
115:	ʾi pušti go	And he let it go
116:	ʾi sokolь fánu gusárovu ptícu na sténe	And the falcon caught the Gusar's bird on the wall
117:	ʾi wt togíva uze cr̃ь gusára pri sébe	And from then on the king took Gusar with him,
