1: === въ ҆едно̀ вре́ме бе́ше не́кои преподо́бни ҆о́ц҃ь нáшь ѳеѡфан͛ ҆испове́дник͛ь ҆и по́стникь Once our Reverend father Theophanes was a confessor and a hermit
2: ѡ͒нь бе́ше ѿ ефе́сь грáдь ҆елин͛ски He was from Ephesus, a Hellenic city
3: ҆и ѡ҃ць ҆и мати него́ва бе́хꙋ ели́нци And his father and his mother were Hellenes
4: хр͒та не вервахꙋ They did not believe (in) Christ
5: Преподо́бни оц҃ь нашь ѳеѡ́фань ѿ млáдось ҆ѡще мьнечко детен͛це: бе́ше возлюбѝ хр͒та
6: ҆и добре поверꙋвà хр͒та бг҃а нáшего And he ... believed (in) our Lord Christ
7: ҆и ва еди́нь де́нь стáнꙋ ѳеѡ́фань And one day Theophanes got up
8: ҆и ѡтиде да сѐ играе сáсь децà като и свеки детѐ And he went to play with children, like every other child
9: ҆и бе́ше вре́ме зи́мно
10: ҆и виде ҆едно̀ детѐ че ꙋми́ра ѿ мрáзь And he saw that one child was freezing to death
11: ҆и соблече свою ри́зꙋ ҆и дре́хꙋ And he took his shirt and his coat off
12: ҆и ѡбле́че онова детѐ and the clothed that child
13: ҆и тако ҆ѡтиде́ си на до́мь сво́й го́ль And so he went home naked
14: ҆и пита го ҅ѡц҃ь ҆и мт҃и него́ва And his father and his mother asked him:
15: где́ ти е ри́за ҆и дре́ха чедо моѐ ʺWhere are your shirt and your coat, my child?ʺ
16: ҆á ѡно ре́че And he said:
17: хр͒тá обле́кохь ʺI clothed Christʺ
18: ҆и рече мꙋ оц҃ь And his father said to him:
19: а коѝ е хр͒то́сь ʺAnd who is (this) Christʺ
20: та го̀ ти ҆обле́че ʺthat you clothed himʺ
21: ми́е ҆ер͛ме́а ҆и аполо́на вер͛ваме ʺWe believe in Hermes and Apolloʺ
22: ҆á ти какво̀ гово́ришь: чедо мое ми́ло ʺAnd what are you saying, my sweet child?ʺ
23: не соблазнjӑй се по хр͒та ʺDo not be tempted by Christʺ
24: ҆и като мꙋ ре́че ҆о́ць таꙗ дꙋма And as his father said this word to him,
҆á ѡно́ва дете стáнꙋ скрьбно that child became sorrowful.
25: ҆и ѿре́че се ѿ оц҃а и ѿ мт҃рь свои роди́тее And he renounced his father and his mother, his parents
26: ҆и фáна го ҆áг҃гель гд͒нь за рꙋ́кꙋ And the Angel of God took him by the hand
27: ҆и заве́де го на го́рꙋ дїавидскꙋю And he took him to the forest/mountain of Dabis (?)
28: ҆и даде го на рꙋ́кꙋ ҆едно́мꙋ стáромꙋ по́стникꙋ; And He handed him over to an old hermit
29: ҆и стáрець при́фанꙋ ҆о́нова детѐ And the old man took that child
30: ҆и наꙋчи го нá калꙋгер͛ски ꙋставь And he taught him the monk statutes
31: ҆и наꙋчи го сщ҃е́нꙋю кни́гꙋ And he taught him the Holy Book
32: ҆и по неколико вре́ме ꙋмрѐ стáрець And at some time the old man died
33: ҆и ҆ѡтиде кь бг҃ꙋ and he went to God
34: ҆á ѳеофáнь ҆ѡстанꙋ but Theophanes stayed
35: ҆и ꙋле́зе ꙋ еднà пе́щера And he went into one cave
36: ҆и постеше се негде тамо пет десе́ть ҆и ҆осемь го́динь And he fasted there for fifty-eight years
37: ҆и наꙋчи го ҆áг҃гель гд͒нь And the Angel of God taught him
38: та ҆изле́зе ҆изь пе́щерꙋ And he went out of the cave
39: ҆и васе́днꙋ на ҆лва And he mounted a lion
40: ҆и поиде And he went off
41: та ходи ше́сь десе́ть конáци So he went through sixty inns

43: та показꙋва ҆име хр͒тово So he showed the name of Christ
44: ҆и много людїе наꙋчи And he taught many people
45: та се кр͒ти́хꙋ во ҆име ҆о́ц҃а ҆и сн҃а бж҃їа So they were baptized in the name of the Father and the Son of God
46: ҆и после разбрáхꙋ двà цр҃а And then two Emperors found out
47: ҆едно́мꙋ цр҃ꙋ бе́ше ҆име каро́са One emperor's name was Carus
48: ҆á дрꙋгомꙋ цр҃ꙋ бе́ше ҆име карин And the other emperor's name was Carinus
49: та запрати́хꙋ ҆е́дного слꙋгà ни́хна да доведѐ ѳеофана So they sent a servant of theirs over to bring Theophanes
50: ҆и фáна го And he caught him
51: ҆и дове́де гѡ And he brought him
52: ҆и би́ха го сáсь камене догдѐ ҆изнеможе And they stoned him until ...........
53: ҆и после го зле мꙋчи́хꙋ And then they tortured him terribly
54: разли́чни мꙋ́ки возложи́хꙋ на не́го They put him through different sufferings
55: ҆и като го̀ би́еше цр҃ь каро́сь ҆из божїемь повеле́нїемь исьхнꙋ цр҃ꙋ де́сна рꙋка And as Emperor Carus was hitting him, with God's will his right hand dried up
56: когѝ видѐ цр҃ь че мꙋ ҆исьхна рꙋкá та ҆á ҆онь се ꙋплáши When the Emperor saw that his hand had dried up, he got scared
57: и рече And he said:
58: ѳеофáне помоли́ се хр͒тꙋ твое́мꙋ за тою де́снꙋю рꙋкꙋ ʺTheophanes, pray to your Christ for this right hand!ʺ
59: ҆áко те скоро послꙋ́ша да исцели мою деснꙋ рꙋ́кꙋ ʺIf he soon listenes and cures my right handʺ
и́ ꙗ да при́йдемь на ве́рꙋ хр͒тианскꙋ ʺI will convert to the Christian faithʺ
҆и ве́сь до́мь ҆и чеда моѧ ҆и весь грáдь да покр͒тимь дх҃омь ст҃имь ʺand I will baptize my whole home and my children and the whole town with the Holy Spiritʺ
60: ҆и ѳеофань ди́гнꙋ сво́й рꙋ́це And Theophanes raised his hands
61: ҆и погледà горе ҆ꙋ нб҃са And he looked up to the sky
62: ҆и потáйно се бг҃ꙋ помо́ли And he secretly prayed to God
63: ҆и рече And he said:
64: гд͒и поми́лꙋй рабà твоего̀ ʺLord, have mercy on Your servantʺ
65: ҆и покажи си́лꙋ твою̀ ʺAnd show Your powerʺ
66: и ҆исцели цр҃ꙋ создáнїю твоемꙋ де́снꙋю рꙋкꙋ ʺAnd cure the right hand of the Emperor - a creature of Yoursʺ
67: ҆и да ви́ди ве́сь наро́дь; ҆ист҆инꙋ твою ʺAnd let the whole nation see Your truthʺ
68: ҆и да се кр͒ти весь народ дх҃омь тво́ймь ст҃имь ʺAnd let the whole nation be baptized with Your Holy Spirit!ʺ
69: ҆и гд͒ь ꙋслишà моленїе ѳеофáново And God listened to Theophanes' prayer
70: ҆исцели цр҃ꙋ де́снꙋю его рꙋкꙋ He cured his right hand
71: ҆и видо́хꙋ цр҃ове те товà чꙋдо: ѳеофáново And the Emperors saw this miracle of Theophanes
72: и ꙋплашихꙋ се ѿ не́го And they got scared of him
73: ҆и фанꙋхꙋ да ви́кать And they began to scream
74: гд͒и поми́лꙋи ʺLord, have mercy!ʺ
75: ҆и кр͒тихꙋ се царове те доми ҆и чеда ни́хни And the Emperors were baptized, and their houses and their children
76: ҆и кр͒ти́ се ве́сь народь що бе́ше прише́ль тамо And the whole nation that had come over there, was baptized
77: ҆и ѳеофáна пꙋщи́хꙋ And they let Theophanes go
78: ҆и ҆ѿиде́ си паки въ пещерꙋ And he went back to the cave
79: ҆и пости се там҆о ꙋ пещерꙋ And he fasted there in the cave
80: седмь десеть ҆и петь годинь минꙋхꙋ догде доиде вре́ме Seventy-five years went by until the time camr
81: ҆и предаде бг҃ꙋ дш҃ꙋ And he gave his soul over to God
82: ҆и ꙋспе са миромь And he passed away in peace
