| 5: | Маѯен͛тиа си́нь маѯимиӑновь тои ꙋ ри́мь грáдь гоненїе голе́мо воздви́же на хр͒тиӑни | Maxentius, son of Maximian, started a great persecution of Christians in Rome. |
| 6: | ҆и много хр͒ти҆ане ► бе́ше ҆измꙋчи́ль | And he had tortured many Christians to death. |
| 7: | по́сле дочꙋл͛ беше цр҃ь костан͛динь | Afterwards, the Emperor Constantine had heard (about it). |
| 8: | ҆и написа фер͛мань | And he wrote an edict. |
| 9: | та мꙋ зáпрати да се ҆ѡстáви ѿ ѕло́е мꙋче́нїе да нѐ мꙋ́чи хр͒тиjӑни:. | And he commanded him to stop the evil tortures, not to torment the Christians. |
| 10: | ҆и виде цр҃ь кѡстáдинь че сѐ не ѡставлѧ маѯе́нтїа ѿ мꙋченїе | And Emperor Constantine saw, that Maxentius did not stop the tortures. |
| 11: | ҆á ѡнь по́мисли да йде на бо́й | But he thought to go to a fight. |
| 12: | ҆и молеше се бг҃ꙋ нб҃сномꙋ̀ | And he prayed to the God of the Heavens. |
| 13: | и като сѐ по́кани цр҃ь да и́де на бо́й | And when the Emperor decided to go to a fight, |
| да ѿт͛вне ро́дь хр͒тиан͛ски ѿ мꙋче́нїе | to free the nation of Christians from the torments, | |
| ꙗко го почи́тахꙋ хр͒тїани | Christians respected him very much. | |
| 14: | ҆и мно́го се рáдвахꙋ хр͒тїӑне | And the Christians were very glad. |
| 15: | ҆и ꙗ́ко мꙋ се моле́хꙋ | And the prayed to him very much. |
| 16: | ї дꙋ́махꙋ | And they were saying: |
| 17: | ҆ѡ цр҃ꙋ ҆иди ҆избави́ ни ѿ те́шкое мꙋче́нїе | ʺO Emperor, come and free us from the heavy torments!ʺ |
| 18: | ҆и ꙗ́ви́ се цр҃ꙋ на сьнь кр͒ть господ͛нь | And a cross appeared to the Emperor in a dream, |
| ҆изѡбрáзень сáсь зве́зди ҆и се́й като сл҃нце | portrayed with stars and shining as the Sun. | |
| 19: | ҆и глас мꙋ до́идѐ ѿ нб҃са | And a voice came to him from the heaven. |
| 20: | ҆и рече́ мꙋ | And it said to him: |
| 21: | костáнди́не тѝ ще́шь дá надвїешь на тáꙗ безако́на ве́ра | ʺO Constantine, you shall defeat that lawless religion!ʺ |
| 22: | ҆иди | ʺGo!ʺ |
| 23: | не бой се | ʺHave no fear!ʺ |
| 24: | коги бѝ на дрꙋ́га но́щь легнꙋ, цр҃ь | On the next night the Emperor laid himself. |
| 25: | та зáспа | And he fell asleep. |
| 26: | ҆и пáки ҆ꙗ́ви́ мꙋ се хр͒то́сь на сьн | And again, the Christ appeared to him in the dream. |
| 27: | ҆и рече мꙋ | And he said to him: |
| 28: | ꙋзмѝ ꙋ рꙋке тво́й чт͒нагѡ: кр͒та | ʺTake the True Cross by your hands!ʺ |
| 29: | ҆и по́йди | ʺAnd go!ʺ |
| 30: | ҆и | |
| ще́шь да побе́дишь; маѯе́нтїю | ʺAnd you will defeat Maxentius!ʺ | |
| 31: | не токо̀ маѯентїю | ʺAnd not only (you will defeat) Maxentius.ʺ |
| 32: | но ҆и сви те кнезове ҆и воиво́ди ҆и воине него́ви | ʺBut also (you will defeat) all his princes, and commanders, and warriors.ʺ |
| 33: | тоги́ва цр҃ь стáнꙋ | Then the Emperor woke up. |
| 34: | ҆и призова свѝ болѧ́ре сво́й | And he called all his boyars. |
| 35: | ҆и казà ймь какво мꙋ се ҆ꙗви́ль на сьн кр͒ть гд͒нь | And he told them, how the cross of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. |
| 36: | ҆и рече ҆имь | And he told them: |
| 37: | бꙋдетѐ гото́ви: до не́коли́ко днѝ догде́ си ҆ѡкове́мь че́стнѝ кр͒ть | ʺBe ready in a couple of days, when I'll forge my True Cross.ʺ |
| 38: | ҆и призовà хи́три златáре | And he called for able goldsmiths. |
| 39: | ҆и ре́че ҆имь | And he told them: |
| 40: | направе́те ми чт͒ни кр͒ть каквáто ми́ се ꙗви на сь́нь | ʺMake a (model of the) True Cross for me, as it appeared in a dream to me.ʺ |
| 41: | ҆и направи́ха го сáсь злáто ҆и сась мар͛гарить ҆и са͒ бесце́ни кáмене | And they made it with gold and with pearls and with priceless stones. |
| 42: | ҆и гото́ви се дá йде на бо́й | And he prepared himself for a fight. |
| 43: | Ѕлочести́ви маѯен͛тїꙗ видѐ цр҃а костанди́на че прїиде бли́зꙋ при рим͛ грáдь сáсь мно́го во́йскꙋ | The evil Maxentius saw Emperor Constantine, that he came to the city of Rome with a large army. |
| 44: | тоги́ва ре́че маѯен͛тиа ско́ро воиска да сѐ збе́ре | Then Maxentius commanded the army to assemble soon. |
| 45: | ҆и сьбра сѐ много наро́дь римлꙗ́не | And a large number of Romans assembled. |
| 46: | ҆и ҆ѡпре́хꙋ се цр҃ꙋ костан͛ди́нꙋ | And they fought Emperor Constantine. |
| 47: | ҆á цр҃ь костан͛дин повелѐ да но́сать чт͒нагѡ; кр͒тà напре́дь пре́дь воискꙋ тꙋ | But Emperor Constantine orderred the True Cross to be carried in front of the army. |
| 48: | ҆и ꙋдари́хꙋ се сáсь маѯен͛тїю | And they attacked each other with Maxentius. |
| 49: | ҆и сась си́ла та чт͒номꙋ кр͒тꙋ нáдви цр҃ь маѯе́нтїи: | And with the power of the True Cross, the Emperor defeated Maxentius. |
| 50: | ҆и мно́го мꙋ во́йскꙋ ҆изсе́коша | And they killed many (soldiers of) his army. |
| 51: | ҆и сáмь маѯе́н͛тїѧ побе́же | And Maxentius himself ran away. |
| 52: | ҆и цр҃ го сил͛но го́неше | And the Emperor pursued him resolutely. |
| 53: | ҆и во́йскá та мꙋ стрáшно бе́гаше | And his forces were terribly running. |
| 54: | и като бе́гаше вои͛ска та ҆и маѯен͛тїа ҆имаше пре́зь ҆еднà рекà мо́сть голем | And as the army was fleeing, Maxentius had a big bridge over one river. |
| 55: | сáмь го маѯен͛тїѧ бе́ше прави́ль | Maxentius himself had constructed it. |
| 56: | та [...] гле́ше на мо́сто да ми́не сáсь во́йскá та що мꙋ̀ бе́ше ҆ѡстáла | And he hasted (?) to the bridge to pass with the remaining army. |
| 57: | ҆и сáсь бо́жию си́лꙋ стро́ши се мо́сто | And with the help of God, the bridge fell. |
| 58: | ҆и потопи се ҆ѡкаjӑни маѯе́нтїа ва ре́кꙋ | And the wretched Maxentius drowned in the river. |
| 59: | и свá та мꙋ во́йска ҆ꙋдáви се като ҆и цр҃ь фáра҅ѡнь потьнꙋ | And all his army drowned, as King Pharaoh drowned. |
| 60: | ҆испль́ни се рекá та сáсь ко́ни ҆и сáсь во́йскꙋ сáсь ҆орꙋжїем | The river became full of horses and of soldiers with arms. |
| 61: | † Вели́ки: костáндинь надвѝ | The great Constantine won. |
| 62: | ҆и ꙋле́зе ꙋ ри́мь град | And he entered the city of Rome. |
| 63: | ҆и сречнáхꙋ го лю́дїе рим͛лѧне сáсь радос голе́мꙋ | And the people of Rome met him with great joy. |
| 64: | ҆и ҆онь велїко бл҃годареше, бг҃а че мꙋ дáде бг҃ь силꙋ та по́беди мꙋчи́телꙗ маѯен͛тїю | And he greatly thanked God, that He gave him power to defeat Maxentius the tormentor. |
| 65: | ҆и пото́мь кр͒ти се сáмь ҆и мáти него́ва Єле́на | And then he himself and his mother Helen got baptized. |
| 66: | ҆и по́сле цр҃ь кѡн͛стан͛динь зáпрати мт҃рь свою, ҆еле́нꙋ во ҆иер͒лимь дá тражи чт͒нѝ кр͒те́ве ѿ неве́рници | And afterwards, Emperor Constantine sent his mother Helen to Jerusalem, to search for True Crosses among the heathen. |
| 67: | ҆и дáде и цр҃ь мно́го ҆име́нїе | And the Emperor gave her a lot of property. |
| 68: | ҆и ѡтидѐ цр҃ца | And the Empress went. |
| 69: | ҆и видѐ ҆ѡнїꙗ ст҃и места | And she saw the holy places. |
| 70: | ҆и що ҆имаше чт͒ни мо́щи ҆ѡна ги на ст҃ь произве́де | And she brought the relics, which were there, to the light. |
| 71: | ҆и почѐ да тражи чеснѝ кр͒ть гд͒нь каде́ го бе́хꙋ скри́ли: ҆евре́е | And she began to search for the True Cross, where the Jews had hidden it. |
| 72: | тоги́ва бе́ше макарїа патриáрхь ꙋ ер͒ли́мь | Then Makarios was the Patriarch in Jerusalem. |
| 73: | ҆онь сре́шнꙋ цр҃цꙋ ҆еленꙋ сáсь голе́мꙋ по́честь | He mat the Empress Helen with great honors. |
| 74: | па тоги́ва цр҃ца еле́на призовà сви евре́е ҆иꙋдеꙗ́не | Then Empress Helen called for all the Jews of Judaea. |
| 75: | ҆и пи́таше ги | And she was asking them: |
| 76: | каже́те ми место́ то каде́ е скрит кр͒ть гд͒нь | ʺShow me the place, where the Cross of the Lord is hidden!ʺ |
| 77: | ҆а евре́е те се ѿри́чахꙋ | But the Jews did not obey. |
| 78: | ҆и не щехꙋ да кáжать | And they did not want to say. |
| 79: | ҆и дꙋмахꙋ | And they were saying: |
| 80: | ҆ѡ цр҃це ми́е не знаеме ме́сто где́ е скри́ть чеснѝ кр͒ть гд͒нь | ʺO Empress, we do not know the place, where the True Cross of the Lord is hidden.ʺ |
| 81: | ҆á цр͒ца ҆елена ҆имь. пре́теше сáсь мꙋченїе | But Empress Helen threatened them with torture, |
| да гѝ мꙋчи ҆и сáсь сабїю да гѝ сечѐ | that she would torment them and kill them with a saber. | |
| 82: | ҆á ѡни мрь́сни евре́е предáдохꙋ цр҃ци ҆едного̀ стáра евреина | But those filthy Jews gave an old Jew to the Empress. |
| 83: | иꙋда бе́ше мꙋ ҆име | His name was Judas. |
| 84: | ҆и рекохꙋ | And they said: |
| 85: | етѐ тоꙗ стáрець мо́же показа тебе щото̀ сакашь ти | ʺHere, this old man can show you, what you want.ʺ |
| 86: | ҆á нїе това не знáеме | ʺBut we don't know (about) it.ʺ |
| 87: | ҆и стар͛ца питà цр҃ца | And the Empress asked the old man. |
| 88: | ҆и онь се ѿре́че | And he disobeyed. |
| 89: | че ҆и онь не знае | (Saying), that neither he did know. |
| 90: | тоги́ва цр҃ца ре́че | Then the Empress said (a command), |
| 91: | та тꙋри́хꙋ стараго ҆евре́ина ꙋ еднà пропасть дльбо́ка | And they threw the old Jew into a deep abyss. |
| 92: | ҆и седѐ тамо неколико вре́ме | And he sat there for some time. |
| 93: | ҆и обре́че се да кáже | And he promised to tell. |
| 94: | ҆и изьве́доха го ҆изь про́пасть | And they took him out of the abyss. |
| 95: | ҆и поиде да каже место то где бе́ше скри́ть чт͒ни кр͒ть | And he went to show the place, where the True Cross had been hidden. |
| 96: | ҆áн҆дриӑнь цр҃ь рим͛ски рáзбра че щѐ да се найде чт͒ни кр͒ть | Emperor Hadrian (had) understood, that the True Cross will be found. |
| 97: | ҆и тамо на онова место бе́ше натꙋ́рана горà мног ҆и кáмене ҆и посипани ҆ѡзгорь са зе́млю | And there, on that place, a hill of a lot of stones covered from above by earth had been put over it. |
| 98: | ҆ан͛дриань цр҃ь повелѐ на оно́ва ме́сто да напрáви цр҃квꙋ їдол͛скꙋ | Emperor Hadrian (had) commanded to build a church of idolaters on that place. |
| 99: | ҆и ѡстави; ꙋ цр҃ква та кꙋми́рь попь ҆евре́йски | And he left an idol (and) a Jewish priest in the church. |
| 100: | ҆á цр҃ца ҆елена повелѐ да развали цр҃квꙋ ҆идол͛скꙋ | But the Empress commanded to tear the church of idolaters down, |
| ҆и землю да раско́па | and to dig the earth, | |
| ҆и горꙋ ҆и ка-менїе да расфрьга | and to cast away the stones and the hill, | |
| да нáйде чт͒ни кр͒ть гд͒нь | to find the True Cross of the Lord. | |
| 101: | ҆и ѡти́дѐ цр҃ца ҆еле́на на товà место ҆и макариа патриӑрхь | And the Empress Helen and Patriarch Makarios went to that place. |
| 102: | ҆и помо́лихꙋ се бг҃ꙋ на то́й ме́сто | And they prayed to God on that place. |
| 103: | ҆и сась бж҃їемь повеле́нїемь ҆изиде меризмà хꙋ́бава блг҃а | And with the command of God, a nice scent came out. |
| 104: | ҆и ꙗви́ се гробь ҆и место гд͒не на ҆истокь | And the grave and the place of Lord appeared in the East. |
| 105: | ҆и бли́зꙋ при ҆о́нáй гро́бь намерихꙋ погре́бени три кр͒ти | And next to the grave, they found three crosses buried. |
| 106: | ҆и пото́мь намери́хꙋ ҆и чт͒ниѧ вен͛ци | And then they also found the honorable wreaths. |
| 107: | ҆и крт͒о́ве те бехꙋ ҆ꙗ́кѡ хꙋбави коли́ко да се не доми́сли чл҃векь кои е хр͒то́вь кр͒ть | And the crosses were so much beautiful, that one could not find out, which was the cross of Christ. |
| 108: | толи́ко бехꙋ хꙋбавѝ | They were so beautiful. |
| 109: | ҆и ва то́и вре́ме ҆изне́сохꙋ ҆еднꙋ̀ деви́цꙋ мертвꙋ | And in that time they brought out a dead girl. |
| 110: | та ю зано́сехꙋ на гро́бь да ю погребꙋ́ть | And so they carried her to the grave to bury her. |
| 111: | ҆á макáриа патриӑхь рече | And Patriarch Makarios said: |
| 112: | стáнете че́да кꙋде зано́сите тꙋю мер͛твꙋ деви́цꙋ | ʺStay, children!ʺ ʺWhere do you carry that dead girl?ʺ |
| 113: | да поло́жиме чт͒ни кр͒ти на ню̀ | ʺLet us place the True Crosses on her!ʺ |
| 114: | ҆и положи́хꙋ ҆еди́нь кр͒ть | And they placed one cross. |
| 115: | не бѝ чꙋдеса | There was no miracle. |
| 116: | ҆и положи́хꙋ вто́ри кр͒ть | And they placed a second cross. |
| 117: | пакѝ не би чꙋ́до | Again, there was no miracle. |
| 118: | когѝ положи́хꙋ ҆и трекїꙗ крьсть на деви́цꙋ ҆áбїе .:. ѡ͒живѐ деви́ца | When they also put the third cross on the girl, she immediately became alive. |
| 119: | ҆и станꙋ сась си́лою бж͒твнаго кр͒та гд͒нꙗ | And she stood up by the power of the divine Cross of the Lord. |
| 120: | ҆á цр҃ца Єле́на са͒ рáдостїю ꙋзе чт͒ни кр͒ь | And Empress Helen took the True Cross with joy. |
| 121: | ҆и поклони́ мꙋ се | And she bowed to it. |
| 122: | ҆и поцелꙋвá го | And she kissed it. |
| 123: | ҆и сва воиска ҆еленина повер͛вà | And the whole army of Helen believed. |
| 124: | ҆и покр͒тихꙋ се сви во ҆имѧ хр͒то́во | And all got baptized in the name of Christ. |
| 125: | ҆á дрꙋги ва това вре́ме не може́хꙋ да ви́дать това преслáвноЄ чꙋдо | And others could not see that glorious miracle in that time. |
| 126: | ҆и много се кáехꙋ | And they regretted much. |
| 127: | защо не сꙋ виде́ли чꙋдесà чт͒номꙋ кр͒тꙋ | Because they did not see the miracles of the True Cross. |
| 128: | тоги́ва макáриа патриáрхь ҆излезе на висо́ко ме́сто на мол͛бꙋ при ҆една цр҃ква | Then Patriarch Makarios went out to a high ground to pray, near a church. |
| 129: | ҆и дигнꙋ́ ҆и показà чт͒ни кр͒ть на народь | And he raised and showed the True Cross to the people. |

| 135: | ҆и ◄ Цр҃ца Єле́на тоги́ва ҆оꙋ́зе чт͒наго кр͒та ꙋ се́бе | Then Empress Helen took the True Cross with herself. |
| 136: | ҆á дрꙋги те два кр͒та ҆и вен͛ци дáде макарїю̀ патри́ӑрхꙋ да гѝ чꙋва | And she gave the other two crosses and wreaths to Patriarch Makarios to store them. |
| 137: | ҆и ѡнь гѝ вложѝ ҆ꙋ сре́брень ков͛чегь | And he placed them in a silver coffin. |
| 138: | ҆и скри́ ги ꙋ монастирь їер͒лм͛ски | And he hid them in a monastery in Jerusalem. |
| 139: | тоги́ва ҆о́нꙗ стáрець; ıꙋда щото̀ казà место́ то каде бехꙋ: скри́ти чт͒ни кр͒ти | Then, the old Judas, who showed the place, where the True Crosses were hidden, |
| ҆и ѡ́нь ҆и много жидовї не повервáхꙋ ва хр͒та | he and many Jews did not (?) believe in Christ. | |
| 140: | ҆и кр͒тихꙋ се | And they were baptized. |
| 141: | ҆и по крьщенїе їꙋда си наре́че име кири҆акь | And after the baptism Judas called himself Cyriacus. |
| 142: | ҆и после цр҃ца ҆еле́на повеле | And afterwards, Empress Helen gave a command. |
| 143: | та напрáвихꙋ ҆единь монасти́рь голе́мь на товà место кáде бе́хꙋ скри́ти кр͒тове те | And they built a large monastery on the place, where the crosses were hidden. |
| 144: | ҆и нарече ҆име мон͒тирꙋ воскр͒нїе гд͒а нáшего їи҃са хр͒тà на ме́сто каде бе́ше гро́бь гд͒нь | And she gave the name to the monastery at the place of the grave of the Lord ʺResurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christʺ. |
| 145: | ҆ꙗ́кѡ хꙋбаво цр҃ца ꙋкрасѝ ст҃го мн͒тра свѐ ꙋ сребро̀ ҆и ꙋ злáто | The Empress decorated the holy monastery very nicely. Everything (was) in silver and in gold. |
| 146: | ҆и ѿ оно́ва вре́ме ҆и до днешНИ де́нь кр͒ть гд͒нь нáмь помáга | And since then up to even today the Cross of the Lord helps us. |
| 147: | ҆и велики цр҃ь костáн͛динь ꙋкачи на висо́ки: мрáморь чт͒наго кр͒та на стль́пь на ҆ꙗ́ко хꙋбаво место | And the great Emperor Constantine placed the True Cross on a high marmor place, on a pillar, a very nice place. |
| 148: | ҆и на тоꙗ стль́пь тꙋри́хꙋ жи́дове ҆евре́е дрьво | And on that pillar the Jews-Hebrews put wood (?). |
| 149: | ҆и распе́хꙋ на него хр͒та бг҃а нашего щото̀ нáмь дáваше ҆исцеленїе ѿ: васакїꙗ боле́зни | And they cruicified on it the Christ, our God, who was giving us healing from all illnesses. |
| 150: | † ѡͯ ми́ли мои хр͒толюби́ви хр͒тиани да не ре́че не́кои ҆áзь не верꙋвамь това чꙋдо не е би́ло | O my dear Christ-loving Christians, may no one says, (that) I do not believe in that miracle. |
| 151: | защо сà хр͒то́сь тако́ваго чл҃века прокли́нꙗ | Because Christ Himself curses such a man. |
| 152: | не вер͛ни ҆и не кр͒тени вери чꙋхꙋ тако́ва чꙋдеса | (Followers of) unfaithful and unbaptized religions listened to such miracles. |
| 153: | ҆и повер͛вахꙋ | And they believed. |
| 154: | ҆и дль́жень е͒ читáтель нà васаки прáзникь да покáже хр͒ти́ӑномь ст҃ое сказáнїе | And the reader is obliged to show the Holy Scripture to the Christians on every feast, |
| да разꙋме́ют що пи́сꙋва ꙋ ст҃ѝ кни́ги хр͒то́ви | so that they understand, what is written in the holy books of Christ. | |
| 155: | поне́же ҆есꙋ хр͒тиани ҆ꙗ́кѡ ѡвци коги не ймꙋть пасти́ра | Because the Christians are (otherwise) as sheep, when they have no shepherd. |
| 156: | ҆и ко́й пасти́рь ҆есть добрь да напасѐ ҆и да накрь́ми стадо своѐ | And he, who is a good shepherd, will bring to graze and feed his flock. |
| 157: | добрѐ то́й нарича се пастирь | It is well (that) he is called a shepherd. |
| 158: | ҆или ко́и попь ҆или калꙋгерь | Or, a priest or monk, |
| ҆áкѡ̀ прочи́та чт͒о ст҃ое писáнїе | if he often reads Holy Scripture | |
| ҆и да показꙋва чт͒о хр͒тиӑном сказáнїе пр͒роческо | and shows the words of prophets to Christians, | |
| то́й нари́ча се попь ҆и дх҃о́вни оц҃ь | he is called (not only) a priest, (but also) a spiritual father. | |
| 159: | ҆и ре́че гд͒ь | And the Lord said: |

| 161: | ҆á верно слово мое разꙋмевáют да ѝмꙋть помощь ѿ мене до животà своего̀ | ʺAnd (thus) they (will) understand my word of truth, so that they will have help from me until (the end of) their life.ʺ |
