1: === Ви́ди́те брáтїѧ, види́те, ҆и мало послꙋ́шáйте зá гор͛кꙋ самрь́ть ѿ мно́го мáл͛ко, [Prologue] See, o brothers, and here a bit about the harsh death
2: да вѝ скáжеме когѝ фáне дш҃а челове́кꙋ да ҆излáзи ѿ тело́ то да ҆иде нá небесà, [Prologue] May we tell us (about the time) when the soul begins to leave the body, to go to the Heavens
3: по самрь́ть тоги́ва ко҆ꙗ́ е дш҃а гре́шна ҆á ѡна какво̀ кáже [Prologue] What it says after the death, if she is sinful
4: ѡͯ дш҃о мо́ꙗ ми́ла догдѐ седе ꙋ тело́ то мое защо́ се не покáꙗ [Prologue] ʺO my beloved soul, why did you not repent, as you were dwelling in my body?ʺ
5: Ре́че бл҃же́ни ҆иѡáнь мл͒тиви Blessed John the Merciful says:
6: когѝ ҆изле́зне ♣ дш҃а ѿ те́ло ҆и пойде на нбс҃а да и́де ҆ꙋ сре́ща ю ҆идать бе́сове When the soul leaves the body and goes to the Heavens, devils go to meet her
7: ди́ӑволе ҆игрáють ҆ѡко́ль дꙋшꙋ тꙋ The devils dance around the soul
8: ҆и пи́тать ю прьви́нь дали́ е льгáла ҆или е клевети́ла And first they ask it, whether it lied or slandered
9: дано речѐ льгáхь ҆и клеве-тихь ҆áли се не́ покаjӑхь If she says: ʺI lied and slandered, but I did not repentʺ,
та да ю̀ ꙋло́вать бе́со-ве те да стáне ни́х͛на then the devils seize her, to make her theirs
10: ҆и па ю сре́шнать па дрꙋ́ги д҅иӑволе And then, other devils meet her
11: ҆и́ ҆они́ ю пи́тать And they ask her:
12: ҆ѡ дш҃е що нѝ не кажешь дали́ си кꙋрви́ла ҆или си се величи́ла ʺO soul, why don't you tell us, whether you fornicated or boasted?ʺ
13: ако сѐ бꙋде пока҆ꙗла дш҃а ѿ тиа гре́хове If the soul will have had repented from those sins,
то ще да сѐ ҆избáви ѿ бе́сни врáгове she will be freed of those devils
14: ҆и много насил͛вают дш҃ꙋ And they force the soul a lot
15: ҆и испи́тват ю догдѐ сти́гне до нб҃са And they test her, until she reaches the Heavens
16: ҆á ѡни́ ю льстать дано би какво̀ годерь продꙋмáла дш҃а та And they deceive her, so that the soul tells anything
17: ҆и кажать ю And they tell her:
18: ѡ͒ дꙋше кажи́ ни що сѝ прави́ла ʺO soul, tell us, what you were doingʺ
19: ми есме ҆аг҃гели ʺWe are angelsʺ
20: не бо́и се ʺHave no fearʺ
21: ҆á дш҃а та ни́какво не дꙋ́ма But (when) the soul does not say anything
22: тогива се бе́сове те расрь́дать че не мо́жать ни́как да пресато́нать прáва дш҃а Then the devils become angry, because they cannot deceive the righteous soul
23: та фáнать да се карáть сась ҆áнг҃ела що но́си дш҃а та And they begin to argue with the angel, who is carrying the soul
24: ҆и кáжат мꙋ And they say to him:
25: тáꙗ е дꙋшà нáша ʺThat is our soul!ʺ
26: че е клеветила ʺBecause she slanderedʺ
27: ҆и зло́ е помисли́ла ʺAnd she had bad thoughtsʺ
28: ҆и срамо́тни дꙋми дꙋмáла ʺAnd she spoke shameful wordsʺ
29: ҆и не е се покори́ла ʺAnd she did not repentʺ
30: ҆и льсти́ва ʺAnd she (was) deceitfulʺ
31: ҆и сребролюби́ва ʺAnd she (was) silver-lovingʺ
32: ҆и пиѧ́ница ʺAnd she (was) a drunkardʺ
33: злоде́йца ʺ(And she was) an evil-doerʺ
34: ҆и маге́сникь ʺAnd (she was) a sorcererʺ
35: потво́рникь ʺ(And she was) a slandererʺ
36: ҆ѡбѧдникь ʺ(And she was) a gluttonʺ
37: братоненави́дникь ʺ(And she was) a brother-haterʺ
38: ҆и зави́дникь ʺ(And she was) jealousʺ
39: ҆и ꙋбıица ʺAnd (she was) a murdererʺ
40: ҆и хáйдꙋкь не мило́стивь ʺAnd (she was) a merciless robberʺ
41: кꙋр͛вáрь ʺ(And she was) an adultererʺ
42: нáмигли́вь ʺ(And she was) apt to blink with an eye (?)ʺ
43: ҆и прислꙋ́шникь ʺ(And she was) an eavesdropperʺ
44: ҆и ѡпадник ʺ(And she was) a hereticʺ
45: ҆ѡпадникꙋ диаволь помáга да мꙋ се чꙋе дꙋ́ма на ҅ѡклветанїе The devil(s?) helps a heretic, so that his word is heard for slander
46: ҆и по́сле мꙋ тело́ то сась чен͛геле разди́рáть Then they tear his body apart with hooks
47: та го̀ ꙋ мꙋ́кꙋ ве́ч[н]ꙋю фрь́гать And they throw him into the eternal torment
48: ви́дите лѝ хр͒тиӑни колико страх дава члове́кꙋ лꙋкáви ди́ӑволь Do you see, o Christinas, how much fear is given to human by the evil Devil?
49: ко́ꙗ дш҃а е͒ грешна A soul, which is sinful,
҆и когѝ по́йде ҆ѡкаꙗна т҆аꙗ дш҃а ѿ земли до́ небесà when this soul goes to Heaven from the Earth having repented,
҆и сась не҆ꙗ́ ҆áг҃гели бж҃їи ҆идꙋть then angels of God go with her
50: ҆и не помагáть ю да ю̀ ѿдꙋ́мать And they are not helping her to change her mind,
не́ло сáма дш҃а ѿ се́бе џꙋвáпь да дадѐ so that she gives an answer by herself
51: ҆и да сѐ ѿдꙋ́ма And may she argue!
52: ҆и да се покáе And may she repent
53: ҆и добрꙋ̀ чт҃ь да нáйде, And may she finds a good honor
54: более м҆илости́ню да подаде May she gives more alms
55: ҆á не гл҃и ѕло̀ ҆и кꙋр͛вар͛сво да чи́ни чл҃векь And (may she?) do(es?) not speak (about) evil and adultery to be done by people
56: сáсь мл҃твꙋ ҆и сась ми́лости́ню мо́же да сѐ ҆избави ѿ лꙋкáви бесове ҆и митáре това ѕло̀ She can get rid of evil devils and tax collectors (?) by prayer and alms
57: види́те брáтие See, brothers
58: ҆и ꙋбои́те се ѿ гор͛каго то́го чáса коги́ ни сре́шнать ҆о́ниꙗ сꙋ́рови ҆и не мл͒ти́ви митáре ҆и прокле́ти ди́аволе And have fear from that bitter time, when we will be met by those brutal and merciless tax collectors and evil devils
59: ҆á нїе ни́кáкво не мо́жеме се досе́ти какво̀ дá ҅имь продꙋ́маме And we cannot think of what we will tell them
60: но́ да сѐ покáеме що смѐ бг҃ꙋ прегреши́ли But let us repent (for) what we transgressed against God
61: ҆и бг҃ь да нѝ ҆избави ѿ свекакво ѕло̀ And may God frees us from all the evil
62: ҆и що сме кадьрь да придаде́ме мл͒ти́ню And as far as we can, may us give alms
63: ҆и мл͒ти́нꙗ на͒ може проводи́ти ѿ зе́мли на нб҃о And alms can bring us from the Earth to the Heavens
64: ҆и ѿ бесовскаго ѕлà да ни ҆избáви And may it frees us from the evil of the devils
65: защо̀ диáволь ҆има мно́го ненави́сть на нáсь Because the Devil has much hate against us
66: ҆и вели́кь нáмь страхь давать And he gives us much fear
67: ҆и велика бедà ҆имамѐ ѿ проклетáго воздꙋ́ха то́го And we have a lot of misery from that accursed spirit (ʺairʺ)
68: нело да сѐ покáеме So let us repent!
69: та да ни бг҃ь проведѐ ѿ зе́мли до не́бо като ѿ грáдь до дрꙋ́ги градь And may God bring us from the Earth to the Heavens as from a city to another city,
҆или като̀ ѿ се́ло до дрꙋ́го село̀ да се не загꙋбиме ни ва ѕло̀ да напáднеме or as from a village to another village, to not get lost, nor to fall into evil
70: когѝ до҆иде чл҃векь до не́коꙗ дльбо́ка река ҆и не сме́е да ми́не When a men reaches a deep river, he does not dare to go in
71: ҆á ко́й да го преведѐ ҆или коги ꙋпáдне чл҃векь ꙋ хáйдꙋчки рꙋ́ке ко́й да го̀ ҆измо́ли; And who would lead him through? Or if a man falls into hands of robbers, who would ask him out?
72: ѡ͒ коли́ко настáвници бж҃їй требꙋ́вать да нѝ фáнать за рꙋкꙋ да ни преведꙋ́ть по дль́ги ве́чни пꙋть Oh, how many servants of God are needed to hold our hands and lead us through the long, eternal journey
73: зáщо е самер͛тни де́нь стрáшень Because the day of death is terrible
74: ҆и не ма ко́й да тѐ ѿдꙋ́ма And there is no one, who could persuade you
75: ҆и когѝ ҆изле́зне дш҃а ѿ те́ло ҆и не мо́же по дрꙋ́ги пꙋ́ть нигде да ми́не And when the soul exits the body, she cannot move on another way
76: но на едно̀ ме́сто ҆и на единь ве́чни пꙋть But (she will move) to one place and to one eternal journey
77: ҆и да ҆имаше не́где дрꙋ́ги пꙋ́ть да проминꙋ́вать ҆áнг҃ели́ те сáсь дш҃и те And if there was somewhere another way for the angels to pass with the souls,
҆и ди҆ꙗво́ле не бѝ можели ле́сно да ꙋфáнꙋть дш҃ꙋ грешномꙋ ҆илѝ прáведномꙋ then the devils would not have it easy to catch a soul of a sinner or a righteous one
78: това ре́че бл҃же́ни ҆иѡ́ань мл͒ти́ви Thus spoke blessed John the Merciful
79: че немꙋ бе́ше ѿкри́то ѿ ст҃аго си́ме҆ѡна стол͛пника As it was revealed to him by St. Simeon the Stylite,
да ви́ди какво̀ ѿтво́ди дш҃а ѿ зе́мли до небо so that he sees what brings the soul from the Earth to Heavens,
҆и да види що пáти, дш҃а ѿ ди́авола and so that he sees what the soul suffers from the Devil,
догдѐ сти́гне до небесà: before she reaches the Heavens
80: вá сегда нѝнѣ ҆и при́сно ҆и во ве́ки веко́вь For now and ever, and forever
81: ҆áмн Amen
