9: | dano rečè lьgáxь ʾi kleve-tixь ʾáli se né pokajăxь | If she says: ʺI lied and slandered, but I did not repentʺ, |
ta da jù ulóvatь béso-ve te da stáne níx͛na | then the devils seize her, to make her theirs | |
10: | ʾi pa ju sréšnatь pa drúgi dʿiăvole | And then, other devils meet her |
11: | ʾí ʾoní ju pítatь | And they ask her: |
12: | ʾw dš̃e što nì ne kažešь dalí si kurvíla ʾili si se veličíla | ʺO soul, why don't you tell us, whether you fornicated or boasted?ʺ |
13: | ako sè bude pokaʾjala dš̃a wt tia gréxove | If the soul will have had repented from those sins, |
to šte da sè ʾizbávi wt bésni vrágove | she will be freed of those devils | |
14: | ʾi mnogo nasil͛vajut dš̃u | And they force the soul a lot |
15: | ʾi ispítvat ju dogdè stígne do nb̃sa | And they test her, until she reaches the Heavens |
16: | ʾá wní ju lьstatь dano bi kakvò goderь produmála dš̃a ta | And they deceive her, so that the soul tells anything |
17: | ʾi kažatь ju | And they tell her: |
18: | w͒ duše kaží ni što sì pravíla | ʺO soul, tell us, what you were doingʺ |
19: | mi esme ʾag͂geli | ʺWe are angelsʺ |
20: | ne bói se | ʺHave no fearʺ |
21: | ʾá dš̃a ta níkakvo ne dúma | But (when) the soul does not say anything |
22: | togiva se bésove te rasrь´datь če ne móžatь níkak da presatónatь práva dš̃a | Then the devils become angry, because they cannot deceive the righteous soul |
23: | ta fánatь da se karátь sasь ʾáng̃ela što nósi dš̃a ta | And they begin to argue with the angel, who is carrying the soul |
24: | ʾi kážat mu | And they say to him: |
25: | tája e dušà náša | ʺThat is our soul!ʺ |
26: | če e klevetila | ʺBecause she slanderedʺ |
27: | ʾi zló e pomislíla | ʺAnd she had bad thoughtsʺ |
28: | ʾi sramótni dumi dumála | ʺAnd she spoke shameful wordsʺ |

33: | zlodéĭca | ʺ(And she was) an evil-doerʺ |

36: | ʾwbędnikь | ʺ(And she was) a gluttonʺ |

38: | ʾi zavídnikь | ʺ(And she was) jealousʺ |

40: | ʾi xáĭdukь ne milóstivь | ʺAnd (she was) a merciless robberʺ |

ʾi sasь neʾjá ʾág͂geli bž̃ïi ʾidutь | then angels of God go with her | |
50: | ʾi ne pomagátь ju da jù wtdúmatь | And they are not helping her to change her mind, |
nélo sáma dš̃a wt sébe џuvápь da dadè | so that she gives an answer by herself | |
51: | ʾi da sè wtdúma | And may she argue! |
52: | ʾi da se pokáe | And may she repent |
53: | ʾi dobrù čt̃ь da náĭde, | And may she finds a good honor |
54: | bolee mʾilostínju da podade | May she gives more alms |
55: | ʾá ne gl͂i źlò ʾi kur͛var͛svo da číni čl̃vekь | And (may she?) do(es?) not speak (about) evil and adultery to be done by people |
56: | sásь ml̃tvu ʾi sasь mílostínju móže da sè ʾizbavi wt lukávi besove ʾi mitáre tova źlò | She can get rid of evil devils and tax collectors (?) by prayer and alms |
57: | vidíte brátie | See, brothers |
58: | ʾi uboíte se wt gor͛kago tógo čása kogí ni sréšnatь ʾónija súrovi ʾi ne ml͒tívi mitáre ʾi prokléti díavole | And have fear from that bitter time, when we will be met by those brutal and merciless tax collectors and evil devils |
59: | ʾá nïe níkákvo ne móžeme se doséti kakvò dá ʿimь prodúmame | And we cannot think of what we will tell them |
60: | nó da sè pokáeme što smè bg̃u pregrešíli | But let us repent (for) what we transgressed against God |
61: | ʾi bg̃ь da nì ʾizbavi wt svekakvo źlò | And may God frees us from all the evil |
62: | ʾi što sme kadьrь da pridadéme ml͒tínju | And as far as we can, may us give alms |
63: | ʾi ml͒tínja na͒ može provodíti wt zémli na nb̃o | And alms can bring us from the Earth to the Heavens |
64: | ʾi wt besovskago źlà da ni ʾizbávi | And may it frees us from the evil of the devils |
65: | zaštò diávolь ʾima mnógo nenavístь na násь | Because the Devil has much hate against us |
66: | ʾi velíkь námь straxь davatь | And he gives us much fear |
67: | ʾi velika bedà ʾimamè wt prokletágo vozdúxa tógo | And we have a lot of misery from that accursed spirit (ʺairʺ) |
68: | nelo da sè pokáeme | So let us repent! |
69: | ta da ni bg̃ь provedè wt zémli do nébo kato wt grádь do drúgi gradь | And may God bring us from the Earth to the Heavens as from a city to another city, |
ʾili katò wt sélo do drúgo selò da se ne zagubime ni va źlò da napádneme | or as from a village to another village, to not get lost, nor to fall into evil | |
70: | kogì doʾide čl̃vekь do nékoja dlьbóka reka ʾi ne smée da míne | When a men reaches a deep river, he does not dare to go in |
71: | ʾá kóĭ da go prevedè ʾili kogi upádne čl̃vekь u xáĭdučki rúke kóĭ da gò ʾizmóli; | And who would lead him through? Or if a man falls into hands of robbers, who would ask him out? |
72: | w͒ kolíko nastávnici bž̃ïĭ trebúvatь da nì fánatь za ruku da ni prevedútь po dlь´gi véčni putь | Oh, how many servants of God are needed to hold our hands and lead us through the long, eternal journey |
73: | zášto e samer͛tni dénь strášenь | Because the day of death is terrible |
74: | ʾi ne ma kóĭ da tè wtdúma | And there is no one, who could persuade you |
75: | ʾi kogì ʾizlézne dš̃a wt télo ʾi ne móže po drúgi pútь nigde da míne | And when the soul exits the body, she cannot move on another way |
76: | no na ednò mésto ʾi na edinь véčni putь | But (she will move) to one place and to one eternal journey |
77: | ʾi da ʾimaše négde drúgi pútь da prominúvatь ʾáng̃elí te sásь dš̃i te | And if there was somewhere another way for the angels to pass with the souls, |
ʾi diʾjavóle ne bì moželi lésno da ufánutь dš̃u grešnomu ʾilì právednomu | then the devils would not have it easy to catch a soul of a sinner or a righteous one | |
78: | tova réče bl̃žéni ʾiw´anь ml͒tívi | Thus spoke blessed John the Merciful |

da vídi kakvò wttvódi dš̃a wt zémli do nebo | so that he sees what brings the soul from the Earth to Heavens, | |
ʾi da vidi što páti, dš̃a wt díavola | and so that he sees what the soul suffers from the Devil, | |
dogdè stígne do nebesà: | before she reaches the Heavens | |
