8: i ne beše jako bogatъ And he was not very rich

13: i umisli da ide postnikъ And he decided to go (to be a) hermit

18: i otide u ednu goru visoku i pustu And he went to a high, deserted mountain
19: i tamo sedeše And he sat there
20: i divi korenъci kopaše And he dug for wild roots
21: ta si dšu xraneše And thus he gave food for his soul
22: i malъko vreme pominu And some time had passed
23: i diavolъ navede na nego zlodei razboinici And the Devil sent evil robbers against him
24: i doidoxu noštemъ And they came in the night
25: i fanaxu go And they seized him
26: i mnogo go bixu And they beat him a lot
27: i ispudixa go ot tamo And they expunged him from there
28: ioanъ sti ot tuju goru izbeže St. John ran away from the mountain
29: i otide u pustinju rilъskuju And he went to the desert of Rila
30: i tamo krepko bga moleše And there he staunchly prayed to God
31: i naide edno šuplo drъvo And he found a hollow tree
32: ta u drъvo to sedeše And thus he sat in that tree

34: i tamo denъ i noštъ sedeše And there he sat for the day and the night
35: i posteše se And he fasted
36: na molitvu stoeše He stood (awake) for praying
37: i mnogo slъzi izъ oči prolivaše And he poured a lot of tears from his eyes
38: i neprestano bga moleše And he endlessly prayed to God
39: i na tova mesto sede ioanъ *ѯ* godinъ And John sat there for 60 years
40: i drugo ništo za jadene ne maše And he had nothing else to eat
41: tъkmo bereše divi roškovci i divi korenъci He was taking only wild snails and wild roots
42: ta si dšu živeeše Thus he fed his soul
43: i tova u tri dni edinъ putъ edeše And even that he ate once in three days
44: i lice člveče *ѯ* godinъ ne vide And he did not see a human face for 60 years
45: no sasъ divi zverove se vidvaše But he was seeing each other with wild beasts
46: i negovo velikoe trъpenie vide gdъ And the Lord saw his great suffering
47: i tamo pri onuju ounju šuplju xižicu ioanovu bgъ povele And God commanded next to that hollow house of John

49: zoveše se slanutka It was called chickpea
50: i ot tuju trevicu blženi ocъ našъ sti ioanъ na mnoga leta požive And our blessed father St. John lived for many years from that plant
51: i va edno vreme priide edinъ pastirъ And once one shepherd came
52: i vide stago ioana And he saw St. John
53: i otide And he went away
54: i raskaza svude po sela i po gradove And he told (about him) everywhere, in all villages and towns
55: i razbraxu bolъni And the ill understood (about him)
56: i mnogo člveci pri nego prixoždaxu And many people were coming to him
57: i prinosexa mu dari za iscelenie And they were bringing him gifts for healing
58: i sasъ molitvu stomu zdravie priimaxu And by a prayer of the saint they were receiving health
59: i otxoždaxu si And they were departing (thus healed)
60: i izide slava stomu po svu zemlju And the glory of the saint went out all over the world
61: i mnogo xrtiani priidoxu da sedutъ pri nego And many Christians came to sit with him
62: i tamo u onja verъtepъ deto sedeše sti ioanъ i tamo napravixu crkvu And at that shack, where St. John was sitting, they made a church
63: i narekoxu stago načalnika i pastira And they made the saint their leader and shepher
64: i onъ dobre paseše stado svoe And he herded his flock well
65: i mnogo ljudie bgu privede And he brought many people to God
66: i mnogo čudesa sotvori And he made many miracles
67: i dlъboku starosъ dostignu And he reached deep old age
68: i mnogo beše mltivъ And he was very merciful
69: i sa mirom [...] životu priide And (the end?) of his life came peacefully
70: i prestavi se And he presented (himself to God, i.e. died)
71: i priidoxu učenici negovi And his followers came
72: i pogreboxa go And they buried him
73: i minu nekoliko vreme And some time passed
74: i javi se na učenici te svoi na sъnъ And he appeared to his followers in a dream
75: i povele imъ da mu prenesutъ mošti te u sretъski gradъ And he commanded them to translate his relics to the town of Sredets
76: i oni otkrixu grobъ stomu And they uncovered the grave of the saint
77: i vidoxu celo telo to prepodobnomu ocu našemu ioanu And they saw (that) the body of our Reverend Father John is whole
78: stoi ne pogroznelo It remains intact
79: i xubava vonja i blaga merizma izlazi iz groba And nice scent and good odor comes from the grave
80: i proslavixu bga And they praised God
81: i prenesoxu čtni te mošti u sredecъ gradъ And they carried the honorable relics over to the city of Sredets
82: i položixu gi u crkvu stomu eѵlistu luki And they placed them in the church of St. Luke the Evangelist
83: i posle napravixu druga crkva prexubava And afterwards they made a new, most beautiful church
84: i narekoxa ju vo ime stomu ioanu And they named it after the name of St. John
85: i mnogo divni ♣ i preslavni celъbi iscelevaxu bolъni And the ill were healed (by?) many miraculous and glorious healings
86: i po tova imaše edinъ kralъ u ostrogomъ gradъ And in that time there was a king in the city of Esztergom
87: ta beše i samъ si kralъ dočulъ čudesa stomu ioanu And the king himself had heard about the miracles of St. John
88: i poide da pleni grъčesku zemlju And he went to conquer the land of Greece
89: i opleni ju And he conquered it
90: i dostignu do sredecъ gradъ deto beše telo to stomu ioanu And he reached the city of Sredets, where was the body of St. John

99: ne mamъ ja u moe pisanie za togova člveka da se pomenuva ili da pravi čudesa ʺI don't have (anything written) in my books about that man, that he should be respected or that he does miraclesʺ
100: i ne šteja da ide da mu se pokloni stomu obrazu And he did not want to go to bow down to his holy icon
101: i reče vldka And the bishop said:
102: azъ ne veruvamъ ʺI do not believeʺ
103: i toja časъ oneme vldka ta And in that moment the bishop became mute
104: i kato oneme a onъ pozna če zaradi tova čudo ioanovo oneme And as he became mute, he understood, that he became mute because of a miracle of John
105: i uplaši se And he became scared
106: i skoro priide pri kovčego stomu ioanu And he came soon to the coffin of St. John
107: i pripade na kolena And he felt to his knees
108: i priplaka And he started to cry
109: i pocelova stomu kovъčego And he kissed the coffin of the saint
110: i moleše mu se And he prayed to him
111: i dumaše And he spoke:
112: o prpodobni oče overzi mi ezikъ ʺO Reverend Father, free my tongueʺ
113: i sti ugodnikъ xrtovъ toja časъ usliša molbu vladikinu And the holy follower of Christ heard the prayer of the bishop in the moment
114: i pa mu podade celъbu i ezikъ And he gave him healing and tongue
115: i produma si jasno i xubavo And he spoke clearly and nicely

117: i iscele And he became healthy
118: togiva sasъ golema čtъ poveruva Then he believed with great honor
119: i sas golemъ plačъ svoi grexъ ispoveda And he confessed his sin with a great cry
120: i prepodobnago oca i samъ onъ proslavi And he praised the Reverend Father by himself

122: i taja preslavnaja čudesa kralъ vide And the king saw those most glorious miracles
123: i udivi se And he was amazed
124: i sa straxomъ velikimъ stomu moleše se neprestano And he prayed endlessly to the saint with a great fear
125: i donese bgъ kralju razumъ And God brought mind to the king
126: ta napravi stomu kovъčegъ sve ot srebro i ot zlato And he made a coffin wholly of silver and gold for the saint
127: i ot ml̂ti na denъ po tri puti xodeše And for the sake of mercy he went three times daily
128: ta stomu mošti te i kovъčego celivaše And he was kissing the relics and the coffin of the saint
129: i sasъ mnogo čtъ stomu pa go zanesoxu u sredec gradъ And then, with great honors, they brought him back to the town of Sredets
130: i položixa go paki va crkva ta negova And they put him again in his church
131: i po semъ povele kralъ sštenomu patriarъxu vasiliju And afterwards the king gave a command to the holy Patriarch Basileus

138: i sasъ tija voine idexu kalugere ot monastirъ stomu ocu i igumenъ ionikija sasъ nixъ And monks from the monastery of the saint went with those soldiers, including Abbot Ioannikios with them
139: i samъ blgočestivi crъ skoro ottide na crki gradъ And the honorable emperor himself went soon to the royal city
140: i povele And he commanded:
141: skoro napravete crkvu u gradъ i trъpezicu da položime stago oca ʺMake a church and a table soon in the city, so that we place the holy father (there)ʺ
142: i vide crъ če približi patriarxъ vasilia i svi te voine što nosexu stago oca And the emperor saw coming Patriarch Basileus and all the soldiers, who carried the holy father
143: i izleze paki samъ crъ da srešne stago na okopъ gradъski And then the emperor himself went out to meet the saint at the ditches of the city,
i svi boljare sasъ nego i voivodi i mnogo narodъ ljudie and all the boyars with him, and dukes, and many many people
144: i radъvaxu se na onova čtnoe telo And they rejoiced at that honorable body
145: i vidoxa go And they saw it
146: i poklonixa mu se And they paid respect to it
147: i radvaxa mu se koliko ne može človekъ izrekti And they rejoiced at it, so much that it cannot be told
148: i sede telo to prepodobnomu ocu na okotъ sedъmъ dni dogde se dogradi crъkva ta And the body of the Reverend Father sat on the ditch for seven days, until the church was finished
149: i sovrъšixu ju And they finished it
150: i prinesoxu mošti te stomu And they carried in the relics of the saint
151: i položixu gi u stuju novu crkvu And they placed them in the holy new church
152: i bgolepъno i do dnešni denъ leži na vrъxъ zemlju tova čudotvornoe telo prepodonomu ocu And that miraculous body of the Reverend Father gloriously lays until this day on the top of earth
153: ot nego iscelenie ima ne izrečeno From it, unspeakable healing comes

157: a sъ oči zdravi otvodutъ And they depart with healthy eyes
