6: | ҆и дꙋмаше цр҃ь че не́ може ни́кой да пребо́ри ли́ю | [Title] And the emperor was speaking that nobody could defeat Lyaeus |
7: | ҆и ҆ꙗ́ко го хвалеше | [Title] And he praised him a lot |
8: | Преслáвни вели́ки мч҃никь д҆ими́триа беше ва цр͒тво маѯимиáново ҆и ди́ѡкли́ти҆аново ѿ селꙋ́нскаго грáда | Most glorious Great Martyr Demetrius was from the city of Salonica during the reign of Maximian and Diocletian |
9: | ҆и бл҃гоче́стив ♣ бе́ше | And he was very pious |
10: | ҆и мно́го лꙋ́ге ꙋ́чеше на хр͒то́вꙋ. ве́рꙋ | And he taught many people about the faith in Christ |
11: | ҆á маѯими҆ꙗнь ҆ѿиде ꙋ селꙋ́нь грáдь | And Maximian went to the city of Solun |
12: | ҆и разбра за ст҃аго д҆ими́трию че е хр͒ти҆áни́нь | And he understood about St. Demetrius, that he was a Christian |
13: | ҆и фáна го | And he arrested him |
14: | ҆и тꙋ́ри го ҆ꙋ темни́цꙋ | And he threw him into a dungeon |
15: | па ҆имаше мáѯимиӑнь ҆едного во́йна | And then Maximian had a warrior |
16: | та бе́ше юнáкь ҆и боре́ць | And he was a hero and duellist |
17: | ҆име мꙋ бе́ше ли́а | His name was Lyaeus |
18: | ҆и хвáлеше́ се | And he praised himself |
19: | ҆и дꙋ́маше | And he spoke: |
20: | не мо́же се наме́ри ни́гдѐ чл҃век да пребо́ри ли́ю | ʺThere can be no man found anywhere, who could overcome Lyaeus.ʺ |
21: | товà ҆изрече мáѯимиань | That was said by Maximian |
22: | ҆и нàме́ри се ҆едно млáдо мо́мче ꙋ то́ꙗ чáсь | And at the time they found a young boy |
23: | ҆и не́мꙋ беше ҆име не́сторь | And his name was Nestor |
24: | ҆и ҆ѡно като чꙋ таꙗ фалà ҆а не́мꙋ се рази́гра срдце то | And having heard that praise, his heart began to dance |
25: | ҆и ѿи́де ꙋ темни́цꙋ при ст҃аго д҆ими́трию | And he want to the dungeons, to St. Demetrius |
26: | та мꙋ сѐ помоли | And he prayed him |
27: | ҆и ꙋзе бл͒говенїе ѿ него | And he took a blessing from him |
28: | па изле́зе на пол҆ꙗ́нꙋ дето се бе́ха збрáли сви́ те кне́зове ҆и воиводи ҆и гд͒ре маѯимиáнови | And then he went out to the meadow, where all the princes and dukes and lords of Maximian assembled |
29: | ҆и маѯими́ань седи на сто́ль | And Maximian sat on a throne |
30: | та гле́да чꙋ́до | And he looked at the miracle |
31: | ҆и дꙋма | And he thinks (says?): |
32: | що щѐ да сто́ри не́сторь | What will Nestor do? |
33: | мо́же ли ҆о́нь пребори́ти моего самобор͛ца лию | Could he defeat my champion Lyaeus? |
34: | ҆и рече маѯимиань | And Maximian said: |
35: | махни́ се не́сторе | ʺGo away, o Nestorʺ |
36: | ще да тѝ стро́ши ко́сти мо́й боре́ць лиа | My champion Lyaeus will crush your bones |
37: | ҆и несторь потáйно се бг҃ꙋ ҆и дими́трию мо́леше | And Nestor secretly prayed to God and Demetrius |
38: | ҆и сапле́тохꙋ се дво́҆ица та сáсь лию | And the two seized each other (ʺwith Lyaeusʺ) |
39: | ҆и несто́рь зáврьте лию | And Nestor turned Lyaeus |
40: | ҆и ҆оудари́ го на зе́млю | And he striked (with) him on the ground |
41: | ҆и сви́ те мꙋ стáви ҆испреви́ва, | And all his joints were twisted |
42: | ҆и челюсти ҆и зꙋби́ мꙋ ҆и ҆о́ч҃и ҆испаднꙋ́ха | And his jaws and teeth and eyes fell out |
43: | тоги́ва Ви́де цр҃ь маѯимиань че злѐ ꙋби не́сторь ли́ю | Then Emperor Maximian saw, that Nestor had beaten Lyaeus badly |
44: | ҆и ҆ꙗ́ко се ҆ѡс͛крьби да не бѝ ꙋмрель самоборець ли́а | And the Emperor became very concerned, so that his gladiator Lyaeus would not die |
45: | ҆и помисли цр҃ь | And the emperor thought |
46: | ҆и ре́че | and he said: |
47: | то́ва мом͛че нико́ги не би пребо́рило ли́ю | ʺThat boy would never have defeated Lyaeusʺ |
48: | но разꙋме́хь че мꙋ е дáль ди́митриа бл҃го́слове́нїе | ʺBut I understood, that Demetrius gave him a blessingʺ |
49: | та са͒ него́ва си́ла посрáмень ҆ѡстахь ꙗ пре́дь кне́зове мо́й | ʺAnd thus I remained ashamed in front of my princesʺ |
50: | ҆и по това ско́ро запрáти во́йне ꙋ темени́цꙋ дето̀ бе́ше врь́зань ст҃ь дими́триа | And afterwards he soon sent soldiers into the dungeon, where St. Demetrius was tied |
51: | ҆и на товà место збодо́ша ребра тá мꙋ сáсь ко́пїе | And on site they pierced his ribs with a spear |
52: | ҆и престави се ст҃ѝ димитриа | And St. Demetrius presented himself (died) |
53: | ҆и тако ҆ѡстви дш҃ꙋ свою | And thus he gave his soul |
54: | ҆и мно́го ҆исцеленїѐ ҆и чꙋдеса преслáвнӑꙗ по самрьти чи́неше ст҃и дими́триа: | And St. Demetrius did many healings and glorious miracles after his death |
55: | ҆и ва товà вре́ме коги́ се престáви ст҃и димитриа ҆имаше ҆еди́нь мом͛кь, цр҃ко́вникь | And at the time, when St. Demetrius died, there was a boy, a sexton |
56: | бе́ше мꙋ ҆име ҆о́ниси́форь | His name was Onesiphorus |
57: | та седе́ше ꙋ цр҃квꙋ ст҃о́мꙋ дими́трию | And he sat in a church of St. Demetrius |
58: | та пáлеше све́щи, на све́щници те | And he lit candles for the priests |
59: | ҆и све́ го поди́гаше диаволь да чи́ни ѕло | And he was constantly driven by the Devil to do evil |
60: | све́щи ҆и лам͛бади ҆ись цр҃квꙋ крадне́ше | He was stealing candles and lamps from the church |
61: | та гѝ продáваше | And then he was selling them |
62: | ҆и много пꙋ́ти товà ѕло чи́неше | And he was doing this evil for many times |
63: | ҆á ст҃и дими́триа не мо́же да ꙋтрьпи́ злоꙋм͛номꙋ ҆и пагꙋбномꙋ ҆емꙋ несмисле́нїю | But St. Demetrius could not suffer this evil-minded and self-destroying mindlessness |
64: | нело мꙋ се ҆ꙗ́ви нá сьнь | Thus he appeared to him in a dream |
65: | ҆и ꙋчѐше го да е бл҃горазꙋ́мень ҆и кро́токь | And he was teaching him to be well-minded and modest |
66: | ҆и ре́че мꙋ ст҃и дими́триа | And St. Demetrius said to him: |
67: | брáте ѡ͒ниси́форе не ми́ е ꙋго́дно товà дело що́то тѝ чинишь сáсь свещи́ те | ʺO brother Onesiphorus, I do not like your actions with the candlesʺ |
68: | ҆ѡстави́ се | ʺStop itʺ |
69: | не тво́ри: товà ѕло | ʺDo not do this evilʺ |
70: | защо̀ сáмь се́бе ꙋ тьмнꙋ ҆ꙗ́мꙋ тꙋраш | ʺBecause you put yourself into a dark holeʺ |
71: | ҆и растѐ на те́бе ҆ѡсꙋжде́нїе те́шко | ʺAnd a harsh judgement is growing upon youʺ |
72: | ҆á тѝ мене не ще́шь да досáдишь сáсь крáж͛бꙋ | ʺAnd you will not annoy me by the theftʺ |
73: | защо̀ ме́не мно́го наро́дь прино́си све́щи | ʺBecause many people bring me candlesʺ |
74: | ҆и кои́ се, трꙋ́ди за ме́не ҆и ҆ꙗ́ мно́го гри́жа ҆имамь за не́го | ʺAnd who works for me, I care a lot for him tooʺ |
75: | но ҆ѡстави́ се | ʺBut stop itʺ |
76: | не крадни́ | ʺDo not stealʺ |
77: | ҆и тогива се ҆о́ниси́форь разбꙋди | And then Onesiphorus woke up |
78: | ҆и добре сь́нь замо́тре | And he remembered the dream well |
79: | ҆и разꙋме | And he understood (it) |
80: | ҆и ꙋплáши се ҆ꙗ́кѡ | And he became very scared |
81: | ҆и рече | And he said: |
82: | ѡ͒ гд͒и защо̀ ҆ꙗ́ чини́хь това ѕло | ʺO Lord, why did I do thus evil?ʺ |
83: | ҆á дрꙋги чл҃ве́кь бл҃гочести́вь стáнꙋль ҆е́дно̀ ҆ютро рáно | And another pious man got up early one morning |
84: | ҆и занель све́щи голе́ми ꙋ црьквꙋ ст҃омꙋ дими́трию | And he brought big candles to the church of St. Demetrius |
85: | ҆и зáпали гѝ | And he lighted them |
86: | ҆и поклони͒ | And he bowed |
87: | и изле́зе нáдворь | And he went out |
88: | ҆á ст҃и дими́триа, ле́жи ꙋ ковчегь злáтень | And St. Demetrius lays in a golden coffin |
89: | слꙋша҆ите, | Listen! |
90: | ҆и смотре́те | And see! |
91: | ҆и добре́ се разꙋме́йте брáте коли́ко не мо́жеше ст҃и дими́триà да трьпѝ зломисал͛наго чл҃века | And do understand well, brother(s), how St. Demetrius could not suffer this evil-thinking man |
92: | ҆о́нисифорь прꙋ́жи рꙋ́кꙋ да зе́ме свещꙋ | Onesiphorus stretched his hand to take the candle, |
що бе́ше донел ҆о́нꙗ бл҃го́чести́вь чл҃ве́кь | which had been brought by that pious man | |
93: | ҆á глáсь ҆изи́де ст҃о́мꙋ ди́митрию ҆ис ко́вчегь | And a voice of St. Demetrius came out of the coffin |
94: | ҆и ре́че | And it said: |
95: | ҆о́ниси́форе пáки ли товà чꙋ́до чи́нишь | ʺO Onesiphorus, do you do this (ʺmiracleʺ) again? |
96: | не ꙋбоꙗ ли се ѿ стрáха бж҃и́а | ʺDid you not get scared by the fear of God?ʺ |
97: | ҆и като̀ чꙋ то҆ꙗ́ глáсь ҆о́ни́сифорь падѐ на зе́млю лю́то ҆и стрáшно | And as he heard the voice, Onesiphorus fell to the ground fiercely and terribly, |
като̀ ѿ громь, стрáшни ꙋдáрень | as if hit by a terrible thunder | |
98: | ҆и дойде певе́ць ҆ись цр҃квꙋ ст҃о́мꙋ дими́трию | And a singer came from the church of St. Demetrius |
99: | ҆и вдигна го̀ ѿ дето бе́ше на зе́млю пáднꙋль | And he raised him from the ground, where he had fallen |
100: | ҆и наказа го ст҃и димитриа | And St. Demetrius gave him a punishment |
101: | ҆и после сáмь себѐ ҆испове́да предь свѝ люди́е за свое́го не смисле́наго дерзнове́нїꙗ | And afterwards he confessed himself in front of all the people for his senseless daring |
102: | защо ст҃и дими́триа не ꙋчи токо̀ не́го самáго | Because St. Demetrius did not teach only him only, |
но ҆и дрꙋ́ги мно́го чл҃веци да познáють чꙋде́са ст҃омꙋ | but also other people, to know the miracles of the saint | |
103: | ҆И ва товà вре́ме когѝ збодо́ха ҆идоле те ст҃áго димитрию ва темни́цꙋ тꙋ | And in that time, when the idol(ater)s killed St. Demetrius in the dungeon, |
бе́ше мц͒ь ҆октомвриа въ ·кѕ· де́нь | it was the Month of October, on the 26th day | |
104: | бе́ше трꙋ́сь вели́кь ҆и страшен ҆ꙋ ко́стан͛диновь грáдь | There was a big and terrible earthquake in the Constantinople |
105: | ҆и хи́жи те ҆имь попадáхꙋ | And their houses were falling |
106: | ҆и мно́го че́лꙗдь по хи́жи те погинáхꙋ | And many people in the houses perished |
107: | ҆и сáмомꙋ цр҃игрáдꙋ стени́ те пáдоша | And the walls of Tsarigrad itself fell down |
108: | ҆и цр҃кви мно́гѡ попадáхꙋ | And many temples fell down |
109: | ҆и мн͒тре мно́го расипáша се | And many monasteries fell apart |
110: | защо́ се две го́дини землꙗ́ та трꙋсѐше | Because the ground was shaking for two years |
111: | ҆и много чл҃ве́ци, ҆измре́хꙋ | And many people died |
112: | ҆и море то ѿ ме́сто сво́е ҆изидѐ | And the sea flew out of its place |
113: | ҆и мно́го чл҃ве́ци ҆и доби́такь ҆и гáди пото́пи | And it drowned many people and cattle and vermin |
114: | того рáди тако́ви де́нь ст҃аго вели́комч҃ника дими́трию да празнꙋ́ваме | That is why we celebrate such a day for the Great Martyr Demetrius |
115: | ҆и да мꙋ се поклáнꙗме | And may us pay him respect, |
да ни ҆избáви ѿ васáкиꙗ бе́ди ҆и напáсти | so that he saves us from any woes and dangers, | |
и да полꙋ́чиме вечное бл҃го | and so that we receive the eternal bliss | |
116: | ҆и цр҃ь мáѯимиáнь; ре́че | And the Emperor Maximian said |
117: | ҆и ст҃аго вели́комч҃ника нестора мьчемь посе́кѡша | And they killed the Holy Great Martyr Nestor (too) |
118: | ҆и то́й бг҃ꙋ дх҃ь предáде | And he gave his soul to God |
119: | ҆и ꙋспѐ са миромь | And he dormited with peace |
120: | бг҃ꙋ же, нáшемꙋ слáва, ҆и чт҃ь ҆и поклоненїе .:. безначáлномꙋ, ҆оц҃ꙋ, | And be glory and honor and respect to our God, |
со ҆единоро́днимь тво́ймь сн҃о́мь | to the beginning-less Father, with Yours only born Son, | |
҆и все ст҃и́мь, ҆и бл҃гимь, ҆и живо́творещим твоймь, дх҃омь, | and with the Holy and good and life-giving Your Spirit | |
все́гда, нѝнѣ, ҆и при́сно ҆и во́ ве́ки, веко́вь, | Always and ever, and forever | |
