| zri lozie | [sidenote] observe - a vineyard | |
| 2: | imaše edno vreme edinъ člvekъ ot dobra roda | There was once a man from a good family |
| 3: | ta nasati lozie mlogo nekoliko xiljadi | And he planted many grape vines - several thousands |
| 4: | i nasadi drъvija vočka svekakva za jadene | And he planted trees with all kinds of fruit to eat |
| 5: | i doide vreme | And the time came |
| 6: | i rodi lozie to | And the vineyard bore fruit |
| 7: | i rodixa drъvja ta | And the trees bore fruit |
| 8: | i ot mnogo rožba ta se bexa previli drъvija ta | And the trees had bended because of too much fruit |
| 9: | i obigradi gi onja člvekъ na okole sasъ pletъ | And that man hedged them round about |
| 10: | i poide da si ide na domъ svoi | And he went on to go home |
| 11: | pa reče | And he said: |
| 12: | fala bgu | ʺThank God!ʺ |
| 13: | ja kato štemъ da si idemъ doma a kogo da ostavimъ da mi čuva lozie to i voška ta | ʺWhen I want to go home, who could I leave here to protect my vineyard and my fruit trees?ʺ |
| 14: | i pomisli da ostavi nekogo ot svoi te slugi | And he thought of leaving one of his servants |
| 15: | pa ne šteja da ostavi ot slugi te si nikogo | But he did not want to leave any of his servants there |
| da mu ne istravatъ rožba ta na loze to i na drъvja ta | so they do not eat the fruit from his vinyeyard and his trees | |
| 16: | nelo ostavi ednogo člveka slepca a drugogo xromca da sedutъ na loze to da čuvatъ | So he left there a blind man and a lame man to sit at the vineyard and protect it |
| 17: | i kato e edinъ slepъ i da saka voška da ede a onъ ne vidi da si nabere | And when one of them is blind, even if he wants to eat fruit, he cannot see in order to pluck some |
| 18: | a drugija člvekъ pa xromъ | And the other man is lame, |
| 19: | i da mu se i nemu šte voška da ede a onъ e pa xromъ | even if he wants to eat fruit, he is lame |
| 20: | ta ne može da ide da si nabere voška da ede | so he cannot go and pluck fruit to eat |
| 21: | taka pomisli onja člvekъ da ne zeme nikoi ot negova ta muka da turi u usta | Thus the man thought, so that nobody won't take from (the fruit of) his labor (ʺtormentʺ?) to throw it to his mouth. |
| 22: | pa kato beše ogradilъ loze to sasъ plotъ onъ beše ostavilъ vrata na edno mesto da se ulazi | And as he had hedged the vineyard round about, he had left a door to enter through at one place |
| 23: | ta ostavi slepca togo i xromca togo na vrata ta da čuvatъ da ne ulezne nekoi da ukradne nešto iz loze to | And so he left the blind man and the lame man at the door lest someone might enter and steal something from the vineyard |
| 24: | slepeco sasъ oči ne vidi | The blind man does not see with the eyes |
| 25: | a sasъ uši čue | but he hears with the ears |
| 26: | a xromeco vidi | And the lame man sees |
| 27: | a sasъ noze ne može da xodi ta sam si da zeme toja plodъ lozni da go nosi doma si | but he cannot walk with the legs to take this vineyard fruit himself and take it home |
| 28: | tova pomisli i ostavi gi na vrat ta | He thought this and left them at the door |
| 29: | i otide si | And he went home |
| 30: | i posede nekoliko vreme doma si | And he sat for some time at his home |
| 31: | a slepeco reče | And the blind man said: |
| 32: | o xromče što xubava merizma tolko ide izъ vnutre vrata ta lozni | ʺO lame man, what good smell is coming from behind the vineyard door!ʺ |
| 33: | a xromeco reče slepcu | And the lame man said to the blind man: |
| 34: | mlogo blgo ima na našego gdna u loze to | ʺThere is a lot of goods in our master's vineyardʺ |
| 35: | zatova tolko xubava merizma ide izъ nutre če ne možešъ izrekti koliko sladosъ ima u tova lozie | ʺThat is why such a good smell is coming from inside that you cannot put into words how much sweetness is in this vineyardʺ |
| 36: | ama ni e uverilъ gdnъ nasъ dvoica tebe slepca mene xromca če ne možeme i dvoica da otideme da si nabereme da se nasitime sasъ taę slatka voška | ʺBut our master assured us two - you the blind man and me the lame man, that we both cannot go and pluck some and sate ourselves with this sweet fruitʺ |
| 37: | i reče slepecъ xromъcu | And the blind man said to the lame man: |
| 38: | o xromče | ʺO lame man!ʺ |
| 39: | o xromъče zašto mi ne si kazalъ o davna če ima takava dobrinja pri nasъ | ʺO lame man, why have you not told me long ago that there is such goodness near us?ʺ |
| 40: | da ne faduvame pri tolkova voška | ʺWhy should we not benefit from so much fruit?ʺ |
| 41: | ako smъ ja slepъ a noze imamъ da te nosimъ i silenъ smъ | ʺIf I am blind, I have legs to carry you and I am strongʺ |
| 42: | o xromče vozmi košъ | ʺO lame man, take a basketʺ |
| 43: | i sedni na plešti moi | ʺand sit on my shouldersʺ |
| 44: | i ja da te nosimъ | ʺand I will carry youʺ |
| 45: | a ti mi putъ pokaži | ʺand you show me the wayʺ |
| 46: | da ideme | ʺLet us goʺ |
| 47: | ta sve to dobro da obereme na gdina našego da go prodademe | ʺAnd gather all our master's good and sell itʺ |
| 48: | pa kogi doide gdinъ našъ da skrieme tova što sme napravili nemu źlo | ʺAnd when our master comes, we will hide the evil we have done to himʺ |
| 49: | ako pita mene a ja štemъ da rečemъ | ʺIf he asks me, I will say:ʺ |
| 50: | nali vidišъ mene gdine če smъ ja slepъ | ʺYou see me, Master, that I am blindʺ |
| 51: | ako li pita tebe a ti reči | ʺIf he asks you, you say:ʺ |
| 52: | ja smъ xromъ | ʺI am lameʺ |
| 53: | ta takoi da go izlъžeme | ʺAnd we will lie to him like thisʺ |
| 54: | i on šte da ni poverъva | ʺAnd he will believe usʺ |
| 55: | i vasede xromecъ na slepca | And the lame man sat on the blind man |
| 56: | i otidoxu | And they went |
| 57: | i sve obraxu onaja voška | And they gathered all the fruit |
| 58: | edno izedoxa | One part they ate |
| 59: | a drugo prodadoxa | Another they sold |
| 60: | a drugo porazixa | And another they destroyed |
| 61: | i ne ostanu ništo u loze to | And nothing was left in the vineyard |
| 62: | sve ukradoxa i sasipaxu na čorbaџia si | And they stole and destroyed everything that was their master's |
| 63: | i po nekolko dni doide gdarъ na loze to | Ad after a few days the master came to the vineyard |
| 64: | i vide če e sve ukradnato i zaneseno | And he saw that everything was stolen and taken away |
| 65: | i reče | And he said: |
| 66: | privedete mi slepca togo da go pitamъ | ʺBring the blind man to me so I ask him!ʺ |
| 67: | i reče mu | And he said to him: |
| 68: | nali te ostavixъ da čuvašъ moe to lozie | ʺDid I not leave you here to protect my vineyard?ʺ |
| 69: | zašto go ukradnu | ʺWhy did you steal it?ʺ |
| 70: | i reče slepecъ | And the blind man said: |
| 71: | gdine ti vidišъ če smъ azъ slepъ | ʺMaster, you see that I am blindʺ |
| 77: | i da bi štejalъ a ja ne vidimъ da idemъ | ʺEven if I wanted to, I cannot see in order to goʺ |
| 78: | nelo ukradnu xromecъ | ʺBut the lame man stole itʺ |
| 79: | a ne smъ ja | ʺIt was not meʺ |
| 80: | togiva reče gdinъ da bijutъ slepca togo dogde privedutъ xromca togo | Then the master ordered for him to be beaten until the lame man would be brought to him |
| 81: | i privedoxa go | And he was brought to him |
| 82: | fana gdinъ da gi pita | The master began questioning them |
| 83: | a oni se sami iskazuvaxu meždu sebe | And they told on each other themselves |
| 84: | xromecъ dumaše | The lame man spoke: |
| 85: | o slepčo da ne beše ti mene nosilъ | ʺO blind man, had you not carried meʺ |
| 86: | ta nikogi ja ne bi moglъ da otidemъ tamo | ʺI would never have been able to go there!ʺ |
| 87: | zašto smъ ja xromъ | ʺFor I am lameʺ |
| 88: | a slepeco pa nemu duma | And the blind man spoke to him: |
| 89: | a ti xromče mene putъ da ne beše pokazalъ kakvo bixъ i ja tamo otišalъ | ʺAnd you, lame man, had you not shown me the way, I would not have gone there!ʺ |
| 90: | togiva gdinъ sede na sudište da gi sudi | Then the master sat in the court to try them |
| 91: | i reče imъ | And he said to them: |
| 92: | kakvo ste kradnali pa taka xromče sedni na slepca | ʺLame man, sit yourself on the blind man, like as when you stealedʺ |
| 93: | i sedna xromecъ na slepca togo | And the lame man sat on the blind man |
| 94: | i poče gdinъ da gi bie ne milostivno | And the master began beating them mercilessly |

| štoto beše napravilъ xubavo lozie | for he had made a goodly vineyard | |
| i zagradil go da ne posegne nikoi na nego | and he had enclosed it so no one would encroach on it | |
| ta samъ si da zeme maksulo svoi | but that he would take the harvest for himself | |
| da ne dade drugomu makarъ usta da si rastvori | not giving anything to anyone, even if with open mouth | |
| 98: | ali bgъ ne dade toko ednomu da e sitъ sa svekakvo dobro | But God did not give only one to be satiated with all the good |
| 99: | no svekomu razdeli koi kakvo da promine na toja stъ | But He gave to everyone, who what would pass in this world (?) |
