| [зри лозıе] | [sidenote] observe - a vineyard | |
There was once a man from a good family |
And he planted many grape vines - several thousands |
And he planted trees with all kinds of fruit to eat |
And the time came |
And the vineyard bore fruit |
And the trees bore fruit |
And the trees had bended because of too much fruit |
And that man hedged them round about |
And he went on to go home |
And he said: |
| 12: | фáла бг҃ꙋ | ʺThank God!ʺ |
When I want to go home, who could I leave here to protect my vineyard and my fruit trees?ʺ |
And he thought of leaving one of his servants |
But he did not want to leave any of his servants there |
| да мꙋ не ҆истрáвать ро́жба та на ло́зе то ҆и на дрь́вꙗ та | so they do not eat the fruit from his vinyeyard and his trees | |
So he left there a blind man and a lame man to sit at the vineyard and protect it |
And when one of them is blind, even if he wants to eat fruit, he cannot see in order to pluck some |
And the other man is lame, |
| 19: | ҆и да мꙋ се ҆и немꙋ ще во́шка да ҆еде ҆á ҆ѡнь е па хро́мь | even if he wants to eat fruit, he is lame |
| 20: | та не мо́же да йде да си набе́ре вошка да ҆едѐ | so he cannot go and pluck fruit to eat |
| 21: | такà поми́сли ҆о́н҆ꙗ́ чл҃век͛ да нѐ зе́ме нико́й ѿ него́ва та мꙋ́ка да тꙋ̀ри ꙋ ꙋстà | Thus the man thought, so that nobody won't take from (the fruit of) his labor (ʺtormentʺ?) to throw it to his mouth. |
| 22: | па като̀ бе́ше ҆ѡгрáдиль ло́зе то, сáсь пло́ть ҆о́нь бе́ше ҆ѡстáвиль врáта нà едно̀ ме́сто да се ꙋлáзи | And as he had hedged the vineyard round about, he had left a door to enter through at one place |
| 23: | та ѡстáви слепцà того́ ҆и хромцá того на вратá та да чꙋвать да не ꙋле́зне не́кои да ꙋкрáдне не́що ҆из лозе то | And so he left the blind man and the lame man at the door lest someone might enter and steal something from the vineyard |
The blind man does not see with the eyes |
| 25: | а сась ҆ꙋши чꙋе | but he hears with the ears |
And the lame man sees |
| 27: | ҆á сась но́зе не мо́же да хо́ди та сáм си да зе́ме то҆ꙗ́ плодь ло́зни да го носѝ домá си | but he cannot walk with the legs to take this vineyard fruit himself and take it home |
He thought this and left them at the door |
And he went home |
And he sat for some time at his home |
And the blind man said: |
O lame man, what good smell is coming from behind the vineyard door!ʺ |
And the lame man said to the blind man: |
There is a lot of goods in our master's vineyardʺ |
| 35: | затова то́лко хꙋ́бава меризма ҆иде ҆изь нꙋ́тре че не мо́жешь ҆изректѝ коли́ко слáдось ҆има ꙋ товà ло́зие | ʺThat is why such a good smell is coming from inside that you cannot put into words how much sweetness is in this vineyardʺ |
| 36: | ама нї е ꙋве́риль гд͒нь нась дво́ица тебѐ слепцà мене хро́мца че не мо́жеме ҆и дво́йца да ҆ѡти́деме да си набе́реме да сѐ наси́тиме сась тáѧ слáтка во́шка | ʺBut our master assured us two - you the blind man and me the lame man, that we both cannot go and pluck some and sate ourselves with this sweet fruitʺ |
And the blind man said to the lame man: |
O lame man!ʺ |
O lame man, why have you not told me long ago that there is such goodness near us?ʺ |
Why should we not benefit from so much fruit?ʺ |
If I am blind, I have legs to carry you and I am strongʺ |
O lame man, take a basketʺ |
| 43: | ҆и седнѝ нá пле́щи мо́й | ʺand sit on my shouldersʺ |
| 44: | ҆и ꙗ да тѐ но́симь | ʺand I will carry youʺ |
| 45: | ҆á ти ми пꙋ́ть покажѝ, | ʺand you show me the wayʺ |
| 46: | да ҆идеме | ʺLet us goʺ |
And gather all our master's good and sell itʺ |
And when our master comes, we will hide the evil we have done to himʺ |
If he asks me, I will say:ʺ |
You see me, Master, that I am blindʺ |
If he asks you, you say:ʺ |
And we will lie to him like thisʺ |
And he will believe usʺ |
And the lame man sat on the blind man |
And they went |
And they gathered all the fruit |
One part they ate |
Another they sold |
And another they destroyed |
And nothing was left in the vineyard |
And they stole and destroyed everything that was their master's |
Ad after a few days the master came to the vineyard |
And he saw that everything was stolen and taken away |
And he said: |
Bring the blind man to me so I ask him!ʺ |
And he said to him: |
Did I not leave you here to protect my vineyard?ʺ |
| ʺWhy did you steal it?ʺ |
And the blind man said: |
Master, you see that I am blindʺ |
Even if I wanted to, I cannot see in order to goʺ |
But the lame man stole itʺ |
| 79: | ҆á не́ смь ҆ꙗ́ | ʺIt was not meʺ |
Then the master ordered for him to be beaten until the lame man would be brought to him |
And he was brought to him |
The master began questioning them |
And they told on each other themselves |
The lame man spoke: |
O blind man, had you not carried meʺ |
I would never have been able to go there!ʺ |
For I am lameʺ |
And the blind man spoke to him: |
And you, lame man, had you not shown me the way, I would not have gone there!ʺ |
Then the master sat in the court to try them |
And he said to them: |
Lame man, sit yourself on the blind man, like as when you stealedʺ |
And the lame man sat on the blind man |
And the master began beating them mercilessly |
Grasp the power of this miracle, brothers, and of these words! |
For gluttony is grievous in this world |
Do you see, christians, what thought that master was thinking |
| щото̀ беше напрáвиль хꙋ́баво ло́зие | for he had made a goodly vineyard | |
| ҆и загрáди́л го да нѐ посе́гне ни́кой на не́го | and he had enclosed it so no one would encroach on it | |
| та сам͛ си да зе́ме максꙋ́ло сво́й | but that he would take the harvest for himself | |
| да не дадѐ дрꙋ́гомꙋ макáрь ҆ꙋстà да сѝ раство́ри | not giving anything to anyone, even if with open mouth | |
But God did not give only one to be satiated with all the good |
But He gave to everyone, who what would pass in this world (?) |
Hear, christians! |
And understand! |
Humans are from a good stock |
And Christ is the son of the Lord |
And the vineyard and the acre of land |
| such is the human too |
Earth |
And the Law and Commandments are from God |
And angels are servants of God |
And the one took the blind man and the lame man |
| 110: | та гѝ ҆ѡстáви ꙋ лозе | and he left them in the vineyard |
And as he thought, he transgressed the command of God because of earth |
| 112: | та заради товà стáнꙋ ҆ѡсꙋжде́нь на самрь́ть | because of that he was sentenced to death |
