8: | i pouči go dovolno na zapovedъ bžiju | and he taught him well about the law of God |
9: | ta pa go togiva privede skoro pri vldku deto sedeše u toja gradъ | and then he brought him to a bishop, who sat in that city |
10: | i reče mu sti ioanъ | and St. John said to him: |
11: | o vldko ete ti predavam togova momъka | ʺO bishop, I gave you here this boy,ʺ |
da go izъučišъ da se potkanja stomu dxu | ʺso that you teach him to follow the Holy Spirit,ʺ | |
i da go začuvašъ ot vasakakva zla rabota | ʺand so that you protect him from any evil thingʺ | |
12: | toko tova reče sti ioanъ | St. John said only that |
13: | pa otide po drugi strani | and he went to other countries, |
da uči ne verni člveci da verъvatъ va xrta | to teach non-believers to believe in Christ | |
14: | a onja vldka što beše u asiski gradъ ta privede momъka togo | and the bishop, who was in the city of Asia, brought the boy |
15: | ta go nauči da verъva stago dxa | and he taught him to believe (in) Holy Spirit |
16: | i začuva go ot vasakakva zla | and he protected him from every evil |
17: | i pokrti go | and he baptized him |
18: | i kakvo go pokrti vldka ta a onъ se oslobodi | and when the bishop baptized him, he freed himself |

20: | pa sega toja momъkъ ne šte veče nikakvo zlo da napravi | ʺand now that boy will not do any evilʺ |

23: | i začuvax go da ne stori veče nikakvo zlo | ʺand I protected him, so that he would not do anything evilʺ |
24: | kogi onja momъkъ naide družina ta poide sasъ nixъ da ede skupi gozbi mlogoceni i da pie vino bez mera | as the boy found a band, he went with them to eat precious meals and drink wine without measure |
25: | i poide po lošъ putъ po ženi i po kražba | and he went on the path of evil - of adultery (ʺwomenʺ) and of theft |
26: | ta pa go toko povedoxa onija bezbožni mužie i u goru da pravatъ zlo | and then those godless men led him to a mountain to do evil |
27: | ta pa beše onja momъkъ na snagu golemъ i visokъ | and the boy was by body a big and high one |
28: | ta go postavixu da gimъ bude voevoda | so they made him to be their leader |
29: | i kato go narekoxa razboinici te da gim bude voevoda | and when the robbers declared him to be their leader, |
a onъ togiva stanu jako ne mltivъ i zlъ i bezъboženъ i ljutъ | then he became very merciless, and evil, and godless, and fierce | |
30: | i xodi edna godina | and he walked (thus) for a year |
31: | ta pravi zlo | and he did evil |
32: | sela na ognъ goreše | he burnt villages by fire |
33: | i mlogo člveci moreše | and he was killing many people |
34: | i mlogo srebro i zlato obiraše | and he robbed a lot of silver and gold |
35: | i mlogo krъvi človečeski prolivaše jako mlogo | and he spilled sooo much human blood |
36: | i golemo zlo stori dogde doide sti ioanъ bgoslov | and he did great evil, until St. John the Evangelist came (again) |
37: | i doide | and he came |
38: | i reče ioanъ | and John said: |
39: | o vldko kade e toja momъkъ što ti go predadoxъ da go naučiš na xrtijansku veru i da go krtišъ | ʺO bishop, where is the boy I gave to you, to teach him Christian faith and to baptize him?ʺ |
40: | a onja vladika fanu da se čudi zašto pituva sti ioanъ za onogova momka | but the bishop began to wonder, why St. John asked about the boy |
41: | če beše minula edna godina | because one year had passed |
42: | otišlъ beše u goru razboinik | (since) he had gone to the mountain (as a) robber |
43: | ta go beše zabovarilъ vldka | so the bishop had forgotten him |
44: | ta pa kato mu reče sti ioanъ a onъ gorъko uzdъxna | and thus, as St. John told him (that), he grievously sighed |
45: | i zaplaka sasъ slъzi | and he wept with tears |
46: | i reče | and he said: |
47: | o ioane brate umre toja momkъ deto mi go ti beše predalъ | ʺO John, my brother, that boy, whom you had given me, diedʺ |
48: | a ioanъ mu reče | but John said to him: |
49: | o vldko sasъ koi obrazъ i sasъ koi oči možešъ rekti | ʺO bishop, by which image and by which eyes could you say,ʺ |

50: | togiva vldka ta reče istina | then the bishop told the truth: |
51: | oče i brate ioane otide sasъ razboinici | ʺO father and brother John, he went with robbersʺ |
52: | i stanalъ e jako zlъ gubitelъ i jako ljut razboinikъ | ʺand he became a very evil murderer and very fierce robberʺ |
53: | togiva reče ioanъ | then John said: |
54: | o vldko ne bex li te ostavilъ da xranišъ togova momъka | ʺO bishop, did I not leave you to raise that boy?ʺ |

ne bexъ li te ostavilъ da čuvašъ stado i ovci xrtovi | ʺand did I not leave you, to guard the herd and sheep of Christ?ʺ | |
56: | a ti gi ostavi kato edinъ lenivъ pastirъ kogi zaspi i ne radi sa svoe stado | ʺbut you left him as a lazy shepherd, when he falls asleep and does not work with his herdʺ |
57: | ta go ispušti | ʺand thus he lets it roam freelyʺ |
58: | ta gi nameratъ zli vlъci | ʺand then evil wolves find themʺ |
59: | ta gi izmorat | ʺand then they slaughter themʺ |
60: | taka i ti o člveče ispušti togova momъka da si pogubi dšu sasъ razboinici | ʺand thus you too, o man, have released that boy, so that he loses his soul with robbersʺ |
61: | kakvo ja tebe rekoxъ | ʺwhat did I tell you?ʺ |
62: | a ti ne može da utvrъdišъ moja ti duma de | ʺbut you just could not fulfill my word!ʺ |
63: | sega skoro da mi privedešъ konja | ʺnow, bring to me a horse soonʺ |
da vasednemъ na nego da idemъ u goru da naidemъ momъka togo kade e | ʺso that I sit on it, to go to the mountain, to find the boy, where(ver) he isʺ | |
64: | i privedoxa mu konja | and they brought him a horse |
65: | i vasede ioanъ na nego | and John mounted it |
66: | i brъzo konja karaše | and he drove the horse fast |
67: | i misleše kato e otišalъ momъko u goru i ot tolko vreme ta čini zlo onъ se zagubi | and he thought: ʺas the boy went to the mountain, and he does evil for so much time, he is lostʺ |
68: | i otpade ot slavu bžiju | ʺand he fell away from the divine gloryʺ |
69: | i otide sti ioanъ u goru | and St. John went to the mountain |
70: | i naide onija zli razboinici tamo | and he found the evil robbers there |
če sedexu podъ edna debela senъkja | as they sat beneath a broad shadow | |
71: | i vide go edinъ stražarъ što imъ čuvaše stražu | and a guard saw him, who was holding his duty |
72: | i zle goneše stražarъ ioana da go ubie | and the guard fiercely chased John to kill him |
73: | zašto gi e izъdebilъ | because he had discovered them |
74: | ta e prišelъ blizu pri nixъ | and he came close to them |
75: | a onъ gimъ se meleše | but he prayed them |
76: | i dumaše | And he spoke: |
77: | o junače ne gonete mene | ʺO brave one, do not chase me!ʺ |
78: | če sъmъ ja starъ | ʺbecause I am oldʺ |
79: | nelo me vodete pri kneza vašego što vi e junačka voivoda | ʺbut bring me to your duke, (to the one) who is your commanderʺ |
80: | i zavedoxa go pri onija junaci | and they brough him to those heroes |
81: | i vide ioanъ onogova momъka če stoi vaoruženъ sasъ strašno oružie | and John saw the boy, as he stood armed with terrible weapons |
82: | i kato vide momъko ioana a onъ se jako zasrami | and as the boy saw John, he became very ashamed |
83: | i pobeže ot sramъ da mu ne stoi predъ oči | and he ran away because of the shame, not to stand in front of his eyes |
84: | a sti ioanъ togiva zabovari starosъ | but then St. John forgot his old age |
85: | ta poide po onogova momъka | and he followed the boy |
86: | ta mu krepko dumaše | and he spoke to him strongly: |
87: | zašto begašъ ot mene čedo moe | ʺWhy do you run away from me, my child?ʺ |
88: | azъ esmъ ocъ tvoi | ʺI am your father!ʺ |
89: | zašto me tolъko trudišъ sne | ʺwhy do you make me so much work, son?ʺ |
90: | stani | ʺstay!ʺ |
91: | pomilui me | ʺhave mercy with me!ʺ |
92: | če smъ ja ot dalekъ | ʺbecause I am from far awayʺ |
93: | pa samъ starъ i ne moštenъ | ʺand I am old and weakʺ |

95: | ne boi se | ʺdo not fear!ʺ |
96: | če imamъ nadeždu na bga da spišъ dšu tvoju | ʺfor I do have hopes in God, that you will save your soulʺ |
97: | ja za tebe dumamъ pri bga | ʺI speak to God for your sakeʺ |
98: | ja za tebe dšu moju polageemъ | ʺI offer my soul for youʺ |
99: | ta toliko sebe trudimъ | ʺand I put so much effortʺ |
100: | ne boi se čedo | ʺdo not fear, child!ʺ |
101: | stani | ʺstay!ʺ |
102: | ne plaši se | ʺdo not fear!ʺ |
103: | xrtosъ me pušti da ti kažemъ če šte da ti oprosti sagrešenie to što si sagrešilъ | ʺThe Christ sent me to tell you, that he will forgive the sin you have committedʺ |
104: | ja za tebe xodimъ | ʺI walk for youʺ (?) |
105: | i krъvi na mene da budutъ što si gi ti prolijalъ | ʺand may the bloods you have spilled be on meʺ |
106: | i na moju šiju da bude grex tvoi | ʺand may your sin will be on my headʺ |
107: | sine poslušai me | ʺhear me, son!ʺ |

111: | i frъli oružie ot sebe | and he threw the weapons away from himself |
112: | i padnu na zemlju | and he fell on the ground |
113: | i zaplaka gorko | and he cried bitterly |
114: | i pristupi blizu pri stgo ioana | and he came closer to St. John |
115: | pocelova mu nogu i desnicu | and he kissed his foot and right hand |
116: | i reče mu onja momъkъ | and the boy said to him: |
117: | oče sti ioane budi mi na pomoštъ | ʺO father, St. John, be my helper!ʺ |
118: | zašto smъ ja mnogo źlo storilъ | ʺbecause I have committed much evilʺ |
119: | i mnogo krъvъ samъ človečesku izlijalъ | ʺand I spilled a lot of human bloodʺ |
120: | i tova dumaše | and he spoke thus |
121: | i desnicu svoju krieše | and he covered his right hand |
122: | zašto beše krъvava | because it was bloody |
123: | i zavede go sti ioanъ u crkvu | and St. John brought him to a church |
124: | i ispoveda go | and he made him confess |
125: | i onъ se pokaja sasъ mnogo molenie bgu i sasъ plačъ | and he repented with much prayer to God and crying |
126: | i pokloni čineše na vasaki denъ i na vasaku noštъ | and he knelt every day and every night |
127: | ta mu oprosti bgъ što beše sogrešil | and God forgave him, what he had sinned |
128: | i ošte mnogo vreme bi živъ dogde približi samrъtni ča | and he lived for a long time, until the time of death came closer |
129: | ta predade bgu dšu svoju va ruce | and then he gave his soul to God's hands |
130: | i uspe sa miromъ | and he fell to dormition with peace |
131: | tomu že slva i čtъ i poklonenie | to him be the glory and honor and respect |
