| 7: | ʾi kato gò víde ʾá ʾwnь pomísli da gò prewbrь´ne na xr͒tiján͛ska vera da búde vérenь | and as (John) saw him, he decided to turn him to Christian faith, to make him a believer | 
| 8: | ʾi poučí go dovólno na zapovédь bž̃iju | and he taught him well about the law of God | 
| 9: | ta pá go togíva privʾedé skóro prì vldku deto sedéše u tójă grádь | and then he brought him to a bishop, who sat in that city | 
| 10: | ʾi réče mu st̃i ʾiʾwanь | and St. John said to him: | 
| 11: | w͒ vldko ʾete ti predávam togóva mom͛ka | ʺO bishop, I gave you here this boy,ʺ | 
| da gò ʾizьučíšь da sè potkànjʾá st̃omu dx̃u | ʺso that you teach him to follow the Holy Spirit,ʺ | |
| ʾi da gò začúvašь wt vasàkakvà zlà rábota | ʺand so that you protect him from any evil thingʺ | |

| 13: | pa wtide po drúgi, stráni | and he went to other countries, | 
| da ùči ne vernì čl̃veci da ver͛vatь va xr͒ta | to teach non-believers to believe in Christ | |
| 14: | ʾá ʾwnja vldka što béše u asíski grádь ta privéde mom͛ka tógo | and the bishop, who was in the city of Asia, brought the boy | 
| 15: | tá go nauči da vér͛va st̃ago, dx̃a, | and he taught him to believe (in) Holy Spirit | 
| 16: | ʾi začuvá go wt vasakakva zla | and he protected him from every evil | 
| 17: | ʾi pokr͒tí go | and he baptized him | 
| 18: | ʾi kakvo go pokr͒tì vldka ta ʾá wnь se ʾwslòbódi | and when the bishop baptized him, he freed himself | 
| 19: | ʾi réče | and he said: | 
| 20: | pa segà toʾjá momьkь ne štè veče nikakvò zlo da naprávi | ʺand now that boy will not do any evilʺ | 
| 21: | če go ʾizьučíxь | ʺbecause I taught himʺ | 
| 22: | ʾi kr͒tix go | ʺand I baptized himʺ | 
| 23: | ʾi začuvax go da ne stóri večè nikákvo zlo | ʺand I protected him, so that he would not do anything evilʺ | 
| 24: | kogì ʾonja momь´kь naĭde družína ta poide sásь níxь da edè skupi gózbi mlógocéni ʾi da pïe víno bez méra | as the boy found a band, he went with them to eat precious meals and drink wine without measure | 
| 25: | ʾi poĭde po lóšь pútь po žéni ʾi po krážba | and he went on the path of evil - of adultery (ʺwomenʺ) and of theft | 
| 26: | ta pa gò tokò povédoxa ʾwnïja bezbóžni múžïe ʾi u goru da právatь zlò | and then those godless men led him to a mountain to do evil | 
| 27: | ta pà béše ʾónja momь´kь na snágu golémь ʾi vísokь | and the boy was by body a big and high one | 
| 28: | ta gò postavíxu da gímь búde voevóda | so they made him to be their leader | 
| 29: | ʾi kato go narékoxa razbóĭnici te da gim búde voevóda | and when the robbers declared him to be their leader, | 
| ʾá ʾwnь togíva stánu ʾjákw` nè ml͒tívь ʾi zlь ʾi bézьbóženь ʾi ljútь | then he became very merciless, and evil, and godless, and fierce | |
| 30: | ʾi xodì. ʾednà gódina | and he walked (thus) for a year | 
| 31: | ta pravì zlò. | and he did evil | 
| 32: | séla na ʾwgnь: góreše | he burnt villages by fire | 
| 33: | ʾi mlógo čl͂véci móreše | and he was killing many people | 
| 34: | ʾi mlógo srebrò ʾi zláto ʾwbíraše | and he robbed a lot of silver and gold | 
| 35: | ʾi mlógo krь´vi človéčeski ʾprolívaše jakʾw mlógo | and he spilled sooo much human blood | 
| 36: | ʾi golemw zlo stóri dogdè doĭde st̃i ïwanь bg̃oslov | and he did great evil, until St. John the Evangelist came (again) | 
| 37: | ʾi doĭde | and he came | 
| 38: | ʾi réče ïʾwʾanь | and John said: | 
| 39: | w͒ vldko kadé e tója mómьkь što tí go predádoxь da go naučiš na xr͒tiʾjansku véru ʾi da gò kr͒tíšь | ʺO bishop, where is the boy I gave to you, to teach him Christian faith and to baptize him?ʺ | 
| 40: | ʾá onja vlàdíka fánu da sè čudi zaštò pitúva st̃i ʾiʾwanь zá wnogóva mómkà | but the bishop began to wonder, why St. John asked about the boy | 
| 41: | če béše minúla ʾednà godína | because one year had passed | 
| 42: | ʾōtíšlь béše u goru razbóinik | (since) he had gone to the mountain (as a) robber | 
| 43: | ta gò béše zábovarílь vldká | so the bishop had forgotten him | 
| 44: | ta pa kato mù réče st̃i ïwănь ʾá w`nь gór͛ko ʾuzdь´xna | and thus, as St. John told him (that), he grievously sighed | 
| 45: | ʾi zapláka sásь slьzi | and he wept with tears | 
| 46: | ʾi réče | and he said: | 
| 47: | w͒ ïwăne bráte: ʾumre toʾjá mómkь detò mi go tì béše predálь | ʺO John, my brother, that boy, whom you had given me, diedʺ | 
| 48: | ʾá ïwănь mu réče | but John said to him: | 
| 49: | w͒ vldko sásь kóĭ ʾwbrázь ʾi sasь kóĭ ʾóč̃i móžešь rékti | ʺO bishop, by which image and by which eyes could you say,ʺ | 
| če è ʾóumrélь tóʾjá mom͛kь što gò béxь ʾjá tebè predálь | ʺthat the boy, whom I had given to you, had died?ʺ | |
| 50: | togíva vldka ta reče ʾistína | then the bishop told the truth: | 
| 51: | ʾóč̃e ʾi bráte ïʿwane ʾōtídè sásь razbóĭnici | ʺO father and brother John, he went with robbersʺ | 
| 52: | ʾi stánalь e ʾjáko zlь gubïtelь ʾi ʾjáko ljut razbóĭnikь | ʺand he became a very evil murderer and very fierce robberʺ | 
| 53: | togíva réče ʾiwănь | then John said: | 
| 54: | w͒ vldko ne bex lí te ʾwstavílь da xránišь togóva móm͛kà | ʺO bishop, did I not leave you to raise that boy?ʺ | 
| 55: | ʾi | |
| ne bex͛ li te ʾóstávilь da čúvašь stádo ʾi ʾovcì xr͒tóvi | ʺand did I not leave you, to guard the herd and sheep of Christ?ʺ | |
| 56: | ʾá tì gi ʾóstavi kato edínь lénivь pastírь kogì zaspì ʾi ne radì sa svóè stádo | ʺbut you left him as a lazy shepherd, when he falls asleep and does not work with his herdʺ | 
| 57: | ta gò ʾispušti | ʺand thus he lets it roam freelyʺ | 
| 58: | ta gì namératь zlì vlь´ci | ʺand then evil wolves find themʺ | 
| 59: | ta gì ʾizmorat | ʺand then they slaughter themʺ | 
| 60: | takà ʾi tì ʾw čl̃veče ʾispúšti togóva mom͛ka da sì pogubì dš̃u sásь razboĭnici | ʺand thus you too, o man, have released that boy, so that he loses his soul with robbersʺ | 
| 61: | kákvò ʾjá tebè rékoxь | ʺwhat did I tell you?ʺ | 
| 62: | ʾá tì ne možè da utvrьdíšь móʾja ta duma de | ʺbut you just could not fulfill my word!ʺ | 
| 63: | séga skóro da mì privédešь konjà | ʺnow, bring to me a horse soonʺ | 
| da vasédnemь na négo da ĭdemь u góru da naĭdemь mom͛ka togo kadé e | ʺso that I sit on it, to go to the mountain, to find the boy, where(ver) he isʺ | |
| 64: | ʾi privédoxa mu konjà | and they brought him a horse | 
| 65: | ʾi vaséde ʾiʾwanь na nego | and John mounted it | 
| 66: | ʾi brьzo konjà káraše | and he drove the horse fast | 
| 67: | ʾi mísleše káto è ʾōtíšalь momь´ko u goru ʾi wt tólko vréme ta činì zlò ʾónь se zágubi | and he thought: ʺas the boy went to the mountain, and he does evil for so much time, he is lostʺ | 
| 68: | ʾi wtpáde wt slávu bž͂ïju | ʺand he fell away from the divine gloryʺ | 
| 69: | ʾi ōtíde st̃i ʾiwănь u góru | and St. John went to the mountain | 
| 70: | ʾi naĭde ʾwnïja zlì razbóĭnici támo | and he found the evil robbers there | 
| če sedéxu pódь ednà debéla sen͛kja | as they sat beneath a broad shadow | |
| 71: | ʾi víde go ʾedínь stražárь štó ĭmь čúvaše strážu | and a guard saw him, who was holding his duty | 
| 72: | ʾi zle góneše stražárь ïwána da gò ubíe | and the guard fiercely chased John to kill him | 
| 73: | zaštó gi e ʾizьdebilь | because he had discovered them | 
| 74: | ta e prišélь blízu pri níxь | and he came close to them | 
| 75: | ʾá ʾwnь gim͛ se meleše | but he prayed them | 
| 76: | ʾi dúmaše | And he spoke: | 
| 77: | w͒ junáče ne gonete mene | ʺO brave one, do not chase me!ʺ | 
| 78: | če sьmь ʾjá stárь | ʺbecause I am oldʺ | 
| 79: | neló me vodéte prí knéza vášego što vi è junáčka voĭvoda | ʺbut bring me to your duke, (to the one) who is your commanderʺ | 
| 80: | ʾi zavédoxa gò pri ʾóníjà junáci | and they brough him to those heroes | 
| 81: | ʾi víde ïʾwànь onogóvà mom͛kà če stóĭ vaʾwružénь sásь strášno ʾwružïe | and John saw the boy, as he stood armed with terrible weapons | 
| 82: | ʾi katò víde momь´ko ïʾwʾanà ʾá ʾwnь se ʾjákw` zasrámi | and as the boy saw John, he became very ashamed | 
| 83: | ʾi pobéže wt srámь da mù ne stóĭ prédь ʾóč̃i | and he ran away because of the shame, not to stand in front of his eyes | 
| 84: | a st̃i ʾiwănь togíva zábovarì stárosь | but then St. John forgot his old age | 
| 85: | ta pòĭde po ʾwnogóva mom͛kà | and he followed the boy | 
| 86: | ta mu krépko dumaše | and he spoke to him strongly: | 
| 87: | zašto bégašь wt mene čédo moè | ʺWhy do you run away from me, my child?ʺ | 
| 88: | ʾázь ʾesmь ʾoc͂ь tvóĭ | ʺI am your father!ʺ | 
| 89: | zašto me tol͛ko trúdišь sñe; | ʺwhy do you make me so much work, son?ʺ | 
| 90: | stánì | ʺstay!ʺ | 
| 91: | pomiluĭ me | ʺhave mercy with me!ʺ | 
| 92: | čé smь ʾjá wt dalekь | ʺbecause I am from far awayʺ |

| 103: | xr͒tósь mè púšti da tì kážemь če štè da tì ʾwprósti sagrešenïe to što sì sagrešílь | ʺThe Christ sent me to tell you, that he will forgive the sin you have committedʺ |

| 105: | ʾi krь´vi na méne da búdutь što sí gi ti prolʾijalь | ʺand may the bloods you have spilled be on meʺ | 
| 106: | ʾi na moju šijù da búde grex tvóĭ | ʺand may your sin will be on my headʺ |

| 111: | ʾi frь´li ʾóružïe wt sébe | and he threw the weapons away from himself | 
| 112: | ʾi pádnu na zémlju | and he fell on the ground | 
| 113: | ʾi zapláka górko: | and he cried bitterly | 
| 114: | ʾi prístupi blizu prì st̃go ïʾwana | and he came closer to St. John | 
| 115: | pocelová mu nógu ʾi désnicu | and he kissed his foot and right hand | 
| 116: | ʾi réče mu ʾonʾjá mómьkь | and the boy said to him: | 
| 117: | ʾoče st̃i ʾiʾwane búdi mì na pómoštь | ʺO father, St. John, be my helper!ʺ | 
| 118: | zaštó smь ʿja mnógo źlò storílь | ʺbecause I have committed much evilʺ | 
| 119: | ʾi mnógo krь´vь samь človečesku ʾizlíʿjalь | ʺand I spilled a lot of human bloodʺ | 
| 120: | ʾi tovà dúmaše | and he spoke thus | 
| 121: | ʾi desnícu svojù kríʿeše | and he covered his right hand | 
| 122: | zaštò béše krь´vava | because it was bloody | 
| 123: | ʾi zavede go st̃i ïwănь u cr͂kvu | and St. John brought him to a church | 
| 124: | ʾi ispovedá go | and he made him confess | 
| 125: | ʾi ʾwnь se pokaʾjá sásь mnógo molenïe bg̃u ʾi sasь pláčь | and he repented with much prayer to God and crying | 
| 126: | ʾi pókloni číneše na vasáki dénь ʾi na vasaku noštь | and he knelt every day and every night | 
| 127: | tá mu ʾwprósti bg̃ь što béše sogréšil | and God forgave him, what he had sinned | 
| 128: | ʾi ʾwšte mnógo vréme bí žívь dogdè pri-blíži samrь´tni ča͒ | and he lived for a long time, until the time of death came closer | 
| 129: | ta predáde bg̃u dš̃u svóju va rúce | and then he gave his soul to God's hands | 
| 130: | ʾi uspe sa míromь | and he fell to dormition with peace |
