| 4: | какво мч҃ехꙋ хр͒иáне да се пре́дадꙋть хр͒тиане по не кр͒тенꙋ проклетꙋ ве́рꙋ ҆ели́н͛скꙋ | [Prologue] how they tormented Christians to make them convert to unbaptized, accursed pagan faith |
| 5: | та гѝ то́лко страшно би́ехꙋ | [Prologue] and they beat them so terribly |
| 6: | и толко ги стрáшно мꙋчехꙋ ҆и педе́пшехꙋ | [Prologue] and they tormented and scolded them so terribly |
| да сѐ ѿфрь́лать хр͒тиꙗ́не ѿ хр͒та, бг҃а, нáшего | [Prologue] so that the Christians cast themselves away from the Christ, our God | |
| да пове́рваю, ҆идолски бг҃ове | [Prologue] to believe in gods of idolaters | |
| 7: | ҆á идоле те си сáми прáвеха ни́хни тѐ бг҃ове | [Prologue] but they made the idols, their gods, by themselves |
| ѿ бакь́рь ҆или ѿ жльтà ме́ть ҆и ѿ сребро̀ ҆или ѿ ѕлáто | [Prologue] from bronze or yellow copper, or silver or gold | |
| 8: | ѡ͒ч҃е, бл҃гословѝ, прочáсти, книгꙋ | [Prologue] o Father, bless the reading of the book |
| 9: | Имаше ҆едно̀ вре́ме ҆една деви́ца млáда ѿ ри́мь градь | There was a young maiden from the city of Rome |
| 10: | ҆име й бе́ше ѳе҆ѡдо́та | her name was Theodota |
| 11: | ҆ꙗ́ко бе́ше мло́го бг҃ата | she was very rich |
| 12: | ҆и на верꙋ хр͒ти҆áн͛ка бе́ше | and she was a Christian by faith |
| 13: | па ймаше, ҆еди́нь, ♣ голе́мь кне́зь ꙋ ѡ́най градь | and there was a great prince in that city |
| 14: | ҆и не́мꙋ беше ҆име сивлики́а | his name was Symblicius |
| 15: | та ре́че на слꙋги́ те си да мꙋ̀ приведꙋ́ть ѳеѡдо́тꙋ деви́цꙋ | and he said to his servants to bring him the maiden Theodota |
| да ю̀ ҆испи́та ще́ ли да сѐ ѿфрь́ли ѿ хр͒то́вꙋ ве́рꙋ | so that he can ask her, whether she would cast herself away from the Christian faith | |
| 16: | ҆и мло́го вре́ме ю̀ дрьжà | and he held her for a long time |
| 17: | та ю̀ свеки де́нь дꙋ́маше | and he said to her every day: |
| 18: | те҆ѡдото деви́це ѿфрьли́ се ѿ хр͒то́вꙋ ве́рꙋ | ʺo maiden Theodota, cast yourself away from the faith of Christʺ |
| 19: | та при́идѝ на нáшꙋ ве́рꙋ хꙋ́бавꙋ | ʺand come to our nice faithʺ |
| 20: | и нáши бг҃ове пове́р͛вай | ʺand believe in our godsʺ |
| 21: | ҆á ҆ѡна кáже | but she said: |
| 22: | ҆ѡ кне́зꙋ безꙋмни нитѝ верꙋ вáшꙋ сакамь нитѝ бг҃а вáшего ве́рвамь | ʺo mindless prince, I neither wish your faith, nor I believe in your godʺ |
| 23: | тоги́ва се зле расрь́ди сигликить кне́зь | then Symblicius got very angry |
| 24: | та повелѐ на слꙋги́ те си | so he gave a command to his servants |
| 25: | та ҆ѡбеси́хꙋ ѳе҆ѡдотꙋ: сáсь глáвꙋ на до́ле | and they hanged Theodota with her head upside down |
| 26: | ҆и свꙋ́ю снáгꙋ сáсь желе́знѝ но́кти садрáхꙋ | and they ripped all of her body with iron claws |
| 27: | ҆и ҆ѡна трьпе́ше | and she suffered |
| 28: | ҆и бг҃ꙋ се, ве́рно мо́леше | and she prayed to God faithfully |
| 29: | ҆и па дꙋ́маше | and then she spoke: |
| 30: | ҆ꙗ́ се ни́какь не боим що мѝ стрꙋжете те́ло сáсь жиле́зни но́кти | ʺI have no fear from your ripping of my body with iron clawsʺ |
| 31: | ҆á кнезь сиглики́а ҆ѡще по зле́ се срьдѝ | and prince Symblicius got even more angry |
| 32: | та ре́че | and he said (a command) |
| 33: | та ю̀ ҆ѡковáхꙋ | and they fettered her |
| 34: | ҆и ꙋ тевни́цꙋ ю фрьли́хꙋ | and they threw her into a dungeon |
| 35: | та седѐ затво́рена ·з· днѝ | and she said incarcerated for 7 days |
| 36: | коги бѝ ҆о́сми де́нь сáсь: бж҃и́емь повеленїемь сáма се ҆ѡ́творѝ тевница ҆о́чеви́дно | on the eighth day she opened the dungeon by herself with the God's allowance |
| 37: | ҆á стражáре те като́ видо́ха че се сáма ѿтворѝ тевни́ца ҆á ѡнӥ се ҆ꙗ́ко ꙋплаши́ха | but the guards, as they saw the dungeon open, they got very scared |
| 38: | ҆и ско́ро ꙋтидо́ха | and they went quickly |
| 39: | ҆и казáхꙋ сигликїю кне́зꙋ | and they told to prince Symblicius |
| 40: | ҆á ѡнь гѝ не́ верꙋвà | and he did not believe them |
| 41: | не́ло ре́че | but he said: |
| 42: | при́ведете ѳе҆ѡдѡтꙋ да ю̀ пи́тамь каквà маги́а знáе | ʺbring me Theodota, so that I can ask her, what kind of magic she knowsʺ |
| 43: | та сѐ сáма ҆ѡтвáра темни́ца | ʺso that she opens the dungeon by herselfʺ |
| 44: | ҆и какво́ е: ҆ѡздраве́ла снагá та ю зá ·з· днѝ | ʺand how could she make her body heal in 7 daysʺ |
| 45: | ҆и питá ю кне́зь | and the prince asked her |
| 46: | тѝ каквá си та сѐ ѿ мч҃нїе не бо́йшь. | ʺwhat the hell are you, that you fear no torment?ʺ |
| 47: | тоги́ва ст҃а҆ꙗ́ ѳе҆ѡдо́та рече | then St. Theodota said: |
| 48: | да се, помрáчи ꙋмь тво́й да бѝ ҆имáль пáметь: | ʺmay your mind darkens, so that you remember:ʺ |
| 49: | ти́ би виде́ль че смь ҆ꙗ́ ѳеѡдо́та деви́ца | ʺyou would see, that this is me, maiden Theodotaʺ |
| 50: | ҆и товà чꙋ сигли́кїꙗ кне́зь | and Symblicius heard it |
| 51: | та сà ҆ѡще по злѐ расрьдѝ | so he became even more angry |
| 52: | та повеле пе́щь да напáлать разьжаже́на | and he commanded to ignite a furnace powerfully |
| 53: | ҆и фрьли́ха ꙋ пе́щь ст҃ꙋю мч҃ницꙋ ѳеѡдо́тꙋ | and they threw the holy martyr Theodota inside |
| 54: | ҆и като ю фрьлихꙋ ҆изидѐ плáмень ҆изь ꙋста та пе́щни | and as they threw her in, a flame came out of the mouth of the furnace |
| 55: | та ҆исгори ·о· мꙋ́жие | and 70 men were burnt |
| 56: | ҆á що ҆ѡстанꙋхꙋ здрáви ҆ѡни затво́рихꙋ на пещ (т)à ꙋстá та | and the remaining healthy ones closed the mouth of the furnace |
| 57: | ҆и ҆ѡтидо́ха си | and they went away |
| 58: | коги́ би тре́ти де́нь ҆á кне́зо зáпрати двà попà ҆идол͛скѝ ҆и ҆ѡще неко́лико чл҃ве́ци | on the third day, the prince sent two idolatrous priests and some other people |
| да ҅идꙋть на пещ (т)à, да зберꙋт пе́пель ҆ѿ тело то ст҃ей ѳе́ѡдо́ти | so that they go to the furnace to collect the ashes of the St. Theodota's body | |
| 59: | че ҆о́ни ре́коха че се ѐ згоре́ла ѳо҆ѡдота ҆ꙋ пещ (т)a | for they said, that Theodota was (already) burnt |
| 60: | та да ю̀ збе́рать ѿ кости́ те пе́пело | so that they could now collect the ashes from the bones |
| да гѡ̀ разве́ють на ве́трь | to cast it into the wind | |
| да го̀ не́ ма ни́где | so that there is no (trace of it) anywhere | |
| 61: | и ҆ѡтвори́хꙋ ꙋстá та на пещ (т)à | and they opened the mouth of the furnace |
| 62: | па ҆изиде плáмень | and then a flame came out |
| 63: | та ҆изгори ҆и двá та попà | And it burned both priests |
| 64: | ҆á ѡниа чл҃веци, що бе́ха сáсь попо́ве те | And those people, who were with the priests |
| ҆á ҆ѡни видо́хꙋ ѳе҆ѡдо́тꙋ че седѝ ꙋ сре́дь пе́щ (т)a | they saw Theodota sitting in the middle of the furnace | |
| ми́ждꙋ два мом͛ка на ҆о́бразь, белѝ като сне́гь | between (what looked) like two boys, who were white like snow | |
| 65: | ҆и като ви́доха тако́во преслáвное чꙋ́до ҆о́ни се ꙋплáши́хꙋ | and as they saw such a most famous miracle, they got scared |
| 66: | та станꙋ́хꙋ като̀ мрь́тви | and they became like dead |
| 67: | ҆á ѳеѡдо̀та пáки здрáва ҆излезе ҆ис пещꙋ̀ ҆ѡгне́нꙋ | and Theodota again came out healthy from the fiery furnace |
| 68: | ни́що на ню̀ не повре́дено | there was no harm on her |
| 69: | нело̀ пее́ше | but she sang |
| 70: | ҆и бг҃а моле́ше да ю̀ дадѐ бг҃ь трьпе́нїе | and she prayed to God for torment |
| 71: | ҆и товà ви́де си́глики́ть кне́зь | and Symblicius saw it |
| че не́ можѐ ҆и сáсь ҆ѡгнь да ҆изгорѝ ѳеѡдо́тꙋ | that he cannot burn Theodota with fire either | |
| 72: | ҆á ҆ѡнь сѐ чꙋ́ди вечѐ какво̀ да направѝ | and he wondered, what he could do |
| 73: | но повелѐ да сврь́жꙋть ст҃ꙋю ѳе҆ѡдотꙋ | so he commanded to have her bound |
| пáки да ю приведꙋ́ть прѝ не́го | to bring her again to him | |
| 74: | ҆и приве́доха ю | and they brought her |
| 75: | ҆á ҆ѡнь сáсь рꙋ́кꙋ со́чеше | and he pointed with the hand |
| 76: | ҆и сась ꙋстá ю дꙋмáше | and with mouth he said to her: |
| 77: | ҆áко се не предаде́шь ме́не | ʺif you will not give yourself to meʺ |
| ҆и не преклонишь твою̀ глáвꙋ на бг҃а мо́его | ʺand you will not bow your head down to my godʺ | |
| ҆á ꙗ щем ҆ѡще по зле́ да тѐ мꙋ́чимь | ʺthen I will torment you even more badlyʺ | |
| 78: | ҆и ре́че кне́зь н҆а еди́нь ве́рень слꙋгà | and the prince said to one loyal servant: |
| 79: | ҆иди врьжѝ ѳеѡдо́тꙋ | ʺgo (to) bind Theodotaʺ |
| 80: | ҆и заведи́ ю ꙋ ҆идолскꙋ цр҃квꙋ | ʺand bring her to the idolatrous churchʺ |
| що сѐ зовѐ кáпище | ʺwhich is called a templeʺ | |
| 81: | ҆и ако се не поклони на нáши те бг҃ове | ʺand if she will not bow to our godsʺ |
| ҆ꙗ́ щем͛ ю тоги́ва сáсь мьчь посе́кти | ʺI will cut her down with sword thenʺ | |
| 82: | ҆а ҆о́на като чꙋ та҆ꙗ́ дꙋма тà се ҆ꙗ́ко зарáдва | and as she heard it, she became very happy |
| 83: | ҆и заведоха ю ꙋ капище | and they brought her to the temple |
| 84: | ҆и онá се поклони самомꙋ хр͒тꙋ | and she bowed to Christ himself |
| 85: | ҆á ҆идоле те сви́ те паднꙋ́хꙋ на зе́млю | and the idols fell down to the ground |
| 86: | та се сакрꙋшихꙋ | and they fell apart |
| 87: | та станꙋхꙋ като прáхь ҆и пепел͛ | and they became like dust and ash |
| 88: | ҆á кне́зь тоги́ва вечѐ не ма що дà сторѝ | and the prince could do nothing then |
| 89: | но повелѐ на четво́рица войне да ю расте́гнꙋт да ю претриют сáсь три́во́нь | so he commanded four soldiers to stretch her and smear her with oil (?) |
| 90: | ҆и претри́хꙋ ю преко сре́дь | and they smeared her in the middle |
| 91: | ҆и метнꙋхꙋ ю ꙋ еди́нь трáпь | and they threw her into a pit |
| 92: | ҆и мїнꙋ некол͛ко вре́ме | and some time passed |
| 93: | ҆á кне́зь сáмь ҆ѡтидѐ да ви́ди дали не́коꙗ̀ гáдь ҆изе́де ст҃ꙋю ѳе҆ѡдотꙋ | then the prince himself came to see, whether some vermin ate St. Theodota |
| 94: | ҆ѡти́де | he went |
| 95: | ҆и паки ю здрáвꙋ наиде ꙋ трáпо | and he found her healthy again in the pit |
| 96: | ҆á ѡнь се вече ꙋдиви | and he was already amazed |
| 97: | ҆и загꙋбѝ сво́й злоꙋмни паметь | and he lost his evil mind |
| 98: | и рече на воине свой ско́ро ѳеѡдо́ти глáвꙋ сáсь мьчь ѿсече́те | and he said to his soldiers: ʺQuickly cut off the head of Theodota with a sword!ʺ |
| 99: | ҆и ѿсекоша е́й чт͒нꙋю: главꙋ | and they cut off her honorable head |
| 100: | ѿти́де кь бг҃ꙋ | she went to God |
| 101: | ҆и вене́ць ꙋзе мч҃нически, | and she received the laurels of martyrdom |
| 102: | те́ми же слáва ҆и чт͒ь | and to those may be glory and honor and respect |
| ҆и поклоненїе ҆оц҃ꙋ ҆и сн҃ꙋ ҆и ст҃омꙋ дх҃ꙋ | (and) to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit | |
| ни́нꙗ при́сно ҆и во ве́ки веков | now and ever and forever |
