15: | i onia člveci štoto sedexu u onja grad oni bexu eline | and the people, who lived in the city, they were heathen |
16: | ne bexu xrtiani pravoslavni | they were no orthodox Christians |
17: | oni ne verъvaxu gda bga našego iisa xrta | they did not believe in Lord, our God, Jesus Christ |
18: | no bexu narekli tuju źmiju da im bude kato bgъ | but they had proclaimed that dragon to be like a god to them |
19: | takava vera bexu eline bezъbožni | godless heathens had such a belief |
20: | i davaxa ju rednikъ po edinъ člvekъ da ede | and they gave her (the xala-dragon) regularily a human to eat |
21: | počitaxa ju | they respected her |
22: | i minu nekolъko vreme | and some time passed |
23: | doide redъ do ednogo xrtianina | turn came to one Christian |
24: | a onъ siromaxъ toko ednu dšterъku imaše | and the poor fellow had only one daughter |
25: | drugo čedo nikakvo ne maše | he had no other child |
26: | i kato pade žrebe na nego i onъ siromaxъ krъši ruke | and as the lot fell to him, the poor one crossed his hands |

30: | i ne ma što da stori | and he could not do anything |
31: | i zavede ju pri ezero | and he brought her to the lake |
32: | i onaę źmia kato vide onuju devicu če ju privedoxu | and the dragon, as she saw the girl, as they brought her |

33: | i ne nadaše se če su se mlogo člveci zbrali da gledaju čudesa | and she did not think of it, that many people gathered to watch miracles |
34: | no jako beše zinula strašno kao bexu priveli onuju devicu | but she had growled teribly, as they had brought the girl |
35: | i zubi rastrъzaše | and she clenched the teeth |
36: | i ocъ na devicu stenjaše | and the father wept towards the girl |
37: | i uzdъxinjaši | and gasped |
38: | bga i stago ioana moleše dano bi mu izbavili devicu ot gorъki samrъt | he prayed to God and St. John, so that they free the girl from a bitter death |
39: | i popita člveci da vidi kakvo bi mu rekli | and he asked people to see, what they would tell him (to do) |
40: | da se pokloni na stuju ruku ioanovu | (they told him?) to bow to the holy hand of John |
41: | i tova sotvori | and thus he did |
42: | kogi priide da celiva ruku ianovu | when he came to kiss the John's hand |

46: | i zavede devicu na ezero | and he brought the girl to the lake |
47: | i sabraxu se luge mlogo da gledaju čudo | and many people assembled to watch the miracle |
48: | i privede ocъ čedo svoe blizu | and the father brought his child closely |
49: | i onaa źmija kato ju vide blizu ona zinu kolъko može | and the dragon, as she saw her closely, growled as (strong as) she could |
50: | i segaše sasъ usta da ju glъtne | and she was reaching for with mouth to swallow her |
51: | i bašta ju frъli stago onago prъsta šljanecъ u grъtana źmii | and her father threw a part (?) of that holy finger into the dragon's throat |
52: | i ona glъtnu prъsto | and she (the dragon) swallowed the finger |
53: | i zgrъči se kato diavolъ | and she wrinkled like a devil |
54: | i pade na dno u ezero na gnezdo to svoe | and she fell down to the bottom of the lake, to her nest |
55: | i puknu toja časъ | and in that moment she blew up |
56: | i bašta na devicu vide če mu ostanu čedo to živo | and the father of the girl saw, that his child remained alive |
57: | izbavi ju bgъ i sti ioanъ ot gorъki samrъtъ | God and St. John saved her from the bitter death |
58: | i uze ju za ruku | and he took her by the hand |
59: | i vrъnu se | and he returned |
60: | i zavede si ju na domъ svoi | and he brought her back to his home |
61: | i tova preslavnoe izbavlenie po svude na člveci skazuvaše | and he told everywhere to people about that most glorious salvation |
62: | i mlogo narodъ pokloni se na taja preslavnaja čudesa | and a lot of people bowed to that most glorious miracle |
63: | i blgodarni glasi vozъisilaxu bgu i prediteči ioanu | and they praised God and John the Forerunner with thankful voices |
64: | i jako imenita čudesa | and many notable miracles (...) |
65: | i po tova piše u zakonъ za tuju čtnuju ruku ioanovu | furthermore, thus is written in the Law about that honorable hand of John: |
66: | kogi doide denъ stoe bgojavlenie priidutъ patriarъsi i vdlci i sštenici i klirici | when the day of Epiphany comes, patriarchs and bishops and priests and clerics come |
67: | ta iznesutъ onuju čtnuju ruku na krai more da svetutъ vodu sasъ nju | then they bring out that honorable hand to the sea, to bless the water with it |
68: | i gledaatъ ju | and they watch it |
69: | ako bude zgrъčena ruka ta ne radujut se jako | if the hand will curl, they are not very happy |
70: | zašto ne šte da ima taja godina beriketъ na zemlju | because it will not be a fertile year on the Earth |
71: | ako li bude pružena golema radost i veselie imajut | if it will be straight, they have a great joy and happiness |
72: | zašto xoče da dade zemlja plodъ ne izrečeni dovolno sitos godina zdrava | because the land will give unspeakable fruits, abundance and good year |
73: | po svъ stъ propoveduet se tova znamenie | the sign is famous around the world |
74: | kogi e pružena čtnaja ruka ioanova i samъ crъ sasъ radostiju velikuju prixodit | when the honorable hand of John is straight, even the Emperor himself comes |
75: | i sasъ voždelenie celuetъ čtnuju i stuju ruku ioanovu | and with desire he kisses the honorable and holy hand of John |
76: | i posle ju unesutъ u crki polati | then they carry it to the imperial palace |
77: | i u sokrovište ju položutъ | and they put it to the treasure |
