| 10: | ҆и деснꙋ рꙋкꙋ пр͒рокꙋ їѡáнꙋ ѿ тело́ то ѿкинꙋ | and he torn out the right hand of Prophet John from the body |
| 11: | ҆и зане́се ю ꙋ своего града да ҆анти҆ѡͯию | and he brought it to his city of Antioch |
| 12: | та҆ꙗ́ чт҃наꙗ рꙋка ҆ꙗ́ко млого чꙋдеса тво́реше | the hand did many miracles |
| 13: | ҆и тамо ꙋ ѡнꙗ грáдь ҆имаше ҆еди́нь езерь страшень ҆и дльбокь | and in that city was a terrible and deep lake |
| 14: | ҆и ꙋ езеро беше се ꙋсилила ҆една проклета хáла ѕмїа | and in that lake an accursed xala-dragon settled down |
| 15: | ҆и ѡнїа чл҃веци щото седехꙋ ꙋ ѡнꙗ град ҆ѡни бехꙋ ҆ели́не | and the people, who lived in the city, they were heathen |
| 16: | не бехꙋ хр͒тиани правослáвни | they were no orthodox Christians |
| 17: | ҆ѡни не вер͛вáхꙋ гд͒а бг҃а нашего їис҃а хр͒та | they did not believe in Lord, our God, Jesus Christ |
| 18: | но бехꙋ нарекли тꙋю ѕми́ю да им бꙋде като бг҃ь | but they had proclaimed that dragon to be like a god to them |
| 19: | такáва вера бехꙋ ели́не бе́зьбо́жни | godless heathens had such a belief |
| 20: | ҆и даваха ю редни́кь по единь чл҃векь да едѐ | and they gave her (the xala-dragon) regularily a human to eat |
| 21: | почи́таха ю | they respected her |
| 22: | ҆и минꙋ, некол͛ко вре́ме | and some time passed |
| 23: | дойде редь до едного хр͒тиӑнина | turn came to one Christian |
| 24: | ҆á ѡ́нь сиромахь токо ҆еднꙋ дщер͛кꙋ ҆имаше | and the poor fellow had only one daughter |
| 25: | дрꙋго чедо ни́какво не маше | he had no other child |
| 26: | и като паде жре́бе на не́го ҆и ѡнь сиромахь крьши рꙋке. | and as the lot fell to him, the poor one crossed his hands |
| 27: | жали | he was anxious |
| 28: | плаче | he cried |
| 29: | бие си главꙋ | he beat his head |
| 30: | ҆и не ма що да сто́ри | and he could not do anything |
| 31: | ҆и заведе ю при езеро | and he brought her to the lake |
| 32: | ҆и ҆ѡнаѧ ѕмиа като виде ѡнꙋю деви́цꙋ че ю приве́дохꙋ | and the dragon, as she saw the girl, as they brought her |
| ҆ѡна поче да ҆испльзва ѿ гнездо то своѐ | she started to crawl out of her nest | |
| 33: | ҆и не надаше се че сꙋ се млого чл҃веци збрáли да гледаю чꙋдеса | and she did not think of it, that many people gathered to watch miracles |
| 34: | но ҆ꙗ́кѡ беше зи́нꙋла страшно као бехꙋ привели ѡнꙋю деви́цꙋ | but she had growled teribly, as they had brought the girl |
| 35: | ҆и зꙋби растрь́заше | and she clenched the teeth |
| 36: | ҆и ҆оц҃ь на деви́цꙋ стенꙗше | and the father wept towards the girl |
| 37: | ҆и ꙋздьхи́нꙗш҆и | and gasped |
| 38: | бг҃а ҆и ст҃аго їѡáна мо́леше дано би мꙋ ҆избавили девицꙋ ѿ гор͛ки, самрьт | he prayed to God and St. John, so that they free the girl from a bitter death |
| 39: | ҆и попита чл҃веци да ви́ди, какво би мꙋ ре́кли | and he asked people to see, what they would tell him (to do) |
| 40: | да се покло́ни на ст҃ꙋю рꙋкꙋ їѡáновꙋ | (they told him?) to bow to the holy hand of John |
| 41: | ҆и това, сотворѝ | and thus he did |
| 42: | коги прıиде да цели́ва рꙋкꙋ иӑновꙋ | when he came to kiss the John's hand |
| ҆á ҆ѡнь сась зꙋби ѿхáпа крӑини прь́сть ѿ рꙋка та ҆и҆ѡанова | he bite off with teeth the last finger of John's hand | |
| 43: | що беше намислиль пѡлꙋчи | what he had thought of, he succeeded |
| 44: | па изле́зе ҆ись цр҃квꙋ | then he went out of the church |
| 45: | ҆и ѡтиде | and he went away |
| 46: | ҆и заведе деви́цꙋ на езеро | and he brought the girl to the lake |
| 47: | ҆и сабрахꙋ се лꙋге мло́го да гледаю чꙋдо | and many people assembled to watch the miracle |
| 48: | ҆и приведе ҆о́ц҃ь чедо свое бли́зꙋ | and the father brought his child closely |
| 49: | ҆и ҆ѡнаа ѕмиꙗ като ю̀ видѐ бли́зꙋ ҆о́на зинꙋ кол͛ко мо́жѐ | and the dragon, as she saw her closely, growled as (strong as) she could |
| 50: | ҆и сегаше сась ꙋста да ю гль́тне | and she was reaching for with mouth to swallow her |
| 51: | ҆и баща ю фрьли ст҃аго ҆ѡнаго прьста шлꙗне́ць ꙋ грьтана ѕмїй | and her father threw a part (?) of that holy finger into the dragon's throat |
| 52: | ҆и ҆ѡна гль́тнꙋ прьсто | and she (the dragon) swallowed the finger |
| 53: | ҆и згрь́чи се като диӑволь | and she wrinkled like a devil |
| 54: | ҆и паде на дно̀ ꙋ езеро на гнездо́ тѡ свое | and she fell down to the bottom of the lake, to her nest |
| 55: | ҆и пꙋкнꙋ тоꙗ чась | and in that moment she blew up |
| 56: | ҆и баща на деви́цꙋ виде че мꙋ ҆ѡстанꙋ чедо то жи́во | and the father of the girl saw, that his child remained alive |
| 57: | ҆избави ю бг҃ь ҆и ст҃и ҆иѡань ѿ гор͛ки самрьть | God and St. John saved her from the bitter death |
| 58: | ҆и ꙋзе ю за рꙋкꙋ | and he took her by the hand |
| 59: | ҆и врьнꙋ се | and he returned |
| 60: | ҆и заведе сї ю на домь сво́и | and he brought her back to his home |
| 61: | ҆и това преслáвное ҆избавленїе по свꙋде на чл҃веци сказꙋ́ваше | and he told everywhere to people about that most glorious salvation |
| 62: | ҆и, млого наро́дь поклони се на та҆ꙗ́; преслáвнаꙗ чꙋдесà | and a lot of people bowed to that most glorious miracle |
| 63: | ҆и бл҃годáрни; глáси возь҆исилáхꙋ бг҃ꙋ ҆и преди́течи ҆иѡáнꙋ | and they praised God and John the Forerunner with thankful voices |
| 64: | ҆и ҆ꙗ́ко ҆имени́та чꙋде́са | and many notable miracles (...) |
| 65: | И по това пише ꙋ зако́нь за тꙋю чт͒нꙋю рꙋкꙋ ҆иѡáновꙋ | furthermore, thus is written in the Law about that honorable hand of John: |
| 66: | коги дойде де́нь ст҃ое бг҃о҆ꙗ́вленїе приѝдꙋть патриар͛си ҆и вдлци ҆и сщ҃еници ҆и клирици | when the day of Epiphany comes, patriarchs and bishops and priests and clerics come |
| 67: | та ҆изнесꙋ́ть ѡнꙋю чт͒нꙋю рꙋкꙋ на крáи море да светꙋть водꙋ сась ню | then they bring out that honorable hand to the sea, to bless the water with it |
| 68: | ҆и гледáать ю | and they watch it |
| 69: | ҆áко бꙋде згрьчена рꙋка та не радꙋют се ҆ꙗ́ко | if the hand will curl, they are not very happy |
| 70: | защо не ще да йма та҆ꙗ́ година берике́ть на землю | because it will not be a fertile year on the Earth |
| 71: | ҆áко ли бꙋде прꙋжена голе́ма радост ҆и веселїе ҆имают | if it will be straight, they have a great joy and happiness |
| 72: | защо хоче да дадѐ землꙗ плодь не изрече́ни доволно си́тос го́дина здрáва | because the land will give unspeakable fruits, abundance and good year |
| 73: | по свь ст҃ь проповедꙋет се това знаменїе | the sign is famous around the world |
| 74: | коги е прꙋжена чт͒наꙗ рꙋка ҆иѡáнова ҆и самь цр҃ь сась радо́стию великꙋю приходит | when the honorable hand of John is straight, even the Emperor himself comes |
| 75: | ҆и сась вожделе́нїе целꙋеть чт͒нꙋю и ст͒ꙋю рꙋкꙋ ҆и҆ѡановꙋ | and with desire he kisses the honorable and holy hand of John |
| 76: | ҆и после ю ꙋнесꙋть ꙋ цр͒ки полáти | then they carry it to the imperial palace |
| 77: | ҆и ꙋ сокровище ю положꙋть | and they put it to the treasure |
| 78: | соврьшает же се собо́рь ст҃омꙋ вь форо́ки | The feast of the Saint proceeds in Thorakia. |
| 79: | мл͒твами хр͒те бж҃е поми́ли | By the prayers, give (us) mercy, o Christ the God. |
| 80: | ҆и [сп͒и дш҃е нш҃и | and save our souls |
