14: ʾi u ezero beše se usilila ʾedna prokleta xála źmïa and in that lake an accursed xala-dragon settled down
15: ʾi wnïa čl̃veci štoto sedexu u wnja grad ʾwni bexu ʾelíne and the people, who lived in the city, they were heathen
16: ne bexu xr͒tiani pravoslávni they were no orthodox Christians
17: ʾwni ne ver͛váxu gd͒a bg͂a našego ïis͂a xr͒ta they did not believe in Lord, our God, Jesus Christ
18: no bexu narekli tuju źmíju da im bude kato bg̃ь but they had proclaimed that dragon to be like a god to them
19: takáva vera bexu elíne bézьbóžni godless heathens had such a belief
20: ʾi davaxa ju redníkь po edinь čl̃vekь da edè and they gave her (the xala-dragon) regularily a human to eat
21: počítaxa ju they respected her
22: ʾi minu, nekol͛ko vréme and some time passed
23: doĭde redь do ednogo xr͒tiănina turn came to one Christian
24: ʾá w´nь siromaxь toko ʾednu dšter͛ku ʾimaše and the poor fellow had only one daughter
25: drugo čedo níkakvo ne maše he had no other child
26: i kato pade žrébe na négo ʾi wnь siromaxь krьši ruke. and as the lot fell to him, the poor one crossed his hands
27: žali he was anxious
28: plače he cried
29: bie si glavu he beat his head
30: ʾi ne ma što da stóri and he could not do anything
31: ʾi zavede ju pri ezero and he brought her to the lake
32: ʾi ʾwnaę źmia kato vide wnuju devícu če ju privédoxu and the dragon, as she saw the girl, as they brought her
ʾwna poče da ʾisplьzva wt gnezdo to svoè she started to crawl out of her nest
33: ʾi ne nadaše se če su se mlogo čl̃veci zbráli da gledaju čudesa and she did not think of it, that many people gathered to watch miracles
34: no ʾjákw beše zínula strašno kao bexu priveli wnuju devícu but she had growled teribly, as they had brought the girl
35: ʾi zubi rastrь´zaše and she clenched the teeth
36: ʾi ʾoc͂ь na devícu stenjaše and the father wept towards the girl
37: ʾi uzdьxínjašʾi and gasped
38: bg̃a ʾi st̃ago ïwána móleše dano bi mu ʾizbavili devicu wt gor͛ki, samrьt he prayed to God and St. John, so that they free the girl from a bitter death
39: ʾi popita čl̃veci da vídi, kakvo bi mu rékli and he asked people to see, what they would tell him (to do)
40: da se poklóni na st̃uju ruku ïwánovu (they told him?) to bow to the holy hand of John
41: ʾi tova, sotvorì and thus he did
42: kogi prıide da celíva ruku iănovu when he came to kiss the John's hand
ʾá ʾwnь sasь zubi wtxápa krăini prь´stь wt ruka ta ʾiʾwanova he bite off with teeth the last finger of John's hand
43: što beše namislilь pwluči what he had thought of, he succeeded
44: pa izléze ʾisь cr̃kvu then he went out of the church
45: ʾi ōtide and he went away
46: ʾi zavede devícu na ezero and he brought the girl to the lake
47: ʾi sabraxu se luge mlógo da gledaju čudo and many people assembled to watch the miracle
48: ʾi privede ʾóc͂ь čedo svoe blízu and the father brought his child closely
49: ʾi ʾwnaa źmija kato jù vidè blízu ʾóna zinu kol͛ko móžè and the dragon, as she saw her closely, growled as (strong as) she could
50: ʾi segaše sasь usta da ju glь´tne and she was reaching for with mouth to swallow her
51: ʾi bašta ju frьli st̃ago ʾwnago prьsta šljanécь u grьtana źmïĭ and her father threw a part (?) of that holy finger into the dragon's throat
52: ʾi ʾwna glь´tnu prьsto and she (the dragon) swallowed the finger
53: ʾi zgrь´či se kato diăvolь and she wrinkled like a devil
54: ʾi pade na dnò u ezero na gnezdó tw svoe and she fell down to the bottom of the lake, to her nest
55: ʾi puknu toja časь and in that moment she blew up
56: ʾi bašta na devícu vide če mu ʾwstanu čedo to žívo and the father of the girl saw, that his child remained alive
57: ʾizbavi ju bg̃ь ʾi st̃i ʾiwanь wt gor͛ki samrьtь God and St. John saved her from the bitter death
58: ʾi uze ju za ruku and he took her by the hand
59: ʾi vrьnu se and he returned
60: ʾi zavede sï ju na domь svói and he brought her back to his home
61: ʾi tova preslávnoe ʾizbavlenïe po svude na čl̃veci skazúvaše and he told everywhere to people about that most glorious salvation
62: ʾi, mlogo naródь pokloni se na taʾjá; preslávnaja čudesà and a lot of people bowed to that most glorious miracle
63: ʾi bl̃godárni; glási vozьʾisiláxu bg̃u ʾi predíteči ʾiwánu and they praised God and John the Forerunner with thankful voices
64: ʾi ʾjáko ʾimeníta čudésa and many notable miracles (...)
65: I po tova piše u zakónь za tuju čt͒nuju ruku ʾiwánovu furthermore, thus is written in the Law about that honorable hand of John:

70: zašto ne šte da ĭma taʾjá godina berikétь na zemlju because it will not be a fertile year on the Earth
71: ʾáko li bude pružena goléma radost ʾi veselïe ʾimajut if it will be straight, they have a great joy and happiness
72: zašto xoče da dadè zemlja plodь ne izrečéni dovolno sítos gódina zdráva because the land will give unspeakable fruits, abundance and good year
73: po svь st̃ь propoveduet se tova znamenïe the sign is famous around the world
74: kogi e pružena čt͒naja ruka ʾiwánova ʾi samь cr̃ь sasь radóstiju velikuju prixodit when the honorable hand of John is straight, even the Emperor himself comes
75: ʾi sasь voždelénïe celuetь čt͒nuju i st͒uju ruku ʾiʾwanovu and with desire he kisses the honorable and holy hand of John
76: ʾi posle ju unesutь u cr͒ki poláti then they carry it to the imperial palace
77: ʾi u sokrovište ju položutь and they put it to the treasure
78: sovrьšaet že se sobórь st̃omu vь foróki The feast of the Saint proceeds in Thorakia.
79: ml͒tvami xr͒te bž̃e pomíli By the prayers, give (us) mercy, o Christ the God.
