3: | ҆ѡч҃е .:. бл҃гословѝ проче́сти молитвáми ст҃и ҆оц҃ь | [Title] o Father, bless the readers by the prayers of the holy fathers |
4: | Ст҃и слáвни пр͒ро́кь їѡ҆ань ѡще млáдо детѐ бе́ше | holy (and) glorious prophet John was just a small child |
5: | ҆и за хр͒тà дꙋ́маше | and he (already) spoke about Christ |
че ще да сѐ роди х҃с | that Christ will be born | |
҆и ва ҆áдь ще да сни́де да избáви грешни́ ѿ вечна мꙋ́ка | and (that) He will descend to Hell to save the sinners from the eternal torment | |
6: | ҆иѡ҆ань бе́ше синь захарийнь ѿ елисаве́тꙋ ро́день ва вре́ме цр҃а ҆ирода | John was the son of Zechariah, born from Elisabeth in the time of King Herod |
7: | ҆á женà цр҃ева зго́ден҆ица ҆и блꙋ́дница люта | but the king's wife, fiancee and fierce harlot (?) |
8: | та расрь́ди цр҃а того | and thus he (?) angered the king |
9: | та ѿсе́че цр҃ь ст҃омꙋ їѡáнꙋ главá та на ѡбед | so the king cut the head of St. John at the lunch off |
10: | ҆и дáде ю на еднà мома цр҃ева блꙋ́дница | and he gave it to one girl, king's harlot |
11: | та по҆игра сáсь главá та ҆иѡано́ва като̀ сась ҆ꙗ́балкà | and she played with the John's head as with an apple |
12: | ѡ͒ безакони ҆иро́де ♣ коли́ко си ѕло̀ꙋмень | o lawless Herod, how wicked are you! |
13: | та мꙋ̀: ѿсече чт͒нꙋю ҆егѡ глáвꙋ | then he cut off his honorable head |
14: | защо беше чи́сь целомꙋдрь ҆и прáведникь | because he was pure, wise and just |
15: | ҆и ꙋ пꙋстиню когѝ седе́ше | and he (ʺwhenʺ) sat in the desert |
16: | ҆и сáсь ди́ви́: ѕве́рове жи́вееше | and he lived with wild animals |
17: | ҆и ѿ камил͛ска вль́на мꙋ бе́ше дре́ха та | and his clothes were (made) of camel fur |
18: | ҆и ѿ ꙋсмь мꙋ бе́ше по҆есо ҆ѡпáсань | and his waist was belted by leather stripes |
19: | ҆и що бе́ше него́во ҆ꙗ́дене | and what was his food? |
20: | сáсь пти́ци те ди́ва вочка еде́ше | he ate wild fruit with birds |
21: | та ꙋ горá та жи́вее́ше | thus he lived in the mountain |
22: | ҆и мл͒ти́вомꙋ бг҃ꙋ ꙋго́дваше чт͒о ҆и непоро́чно | and he pleased God (by living) purely and stainlessly |
23: | ҆и ҆ѡнь кр͒ти хр͒та на ҆иѡрдáнь | and he baptized Christ in Jordan |
24: | ҆а цр҃ь ҆иро́дь четве́ртово́лень ҆имаше брáта фили́па | but king Herod, the Tetrarch, had a brother Philipp |
25: | та фи́липовꙋ тꙋ женꙋ̀ приве́де за се́бе дá мꙋ бꙋ́де като̀ женà | and he brought Philipp's wife to himself to be his wife |
26: | ҆á пр͒ро́кь їѡ҆ань видѐ че пойде цр҃ь не чт͒о | but prophet John saw, that the king was acting dishonorably |
27: | ҆á ѡ́нь се на҆ѡрꙋжѝ са͒ ҆Ѡрꙋ́жие | but he armed himself with weapons |
28: | ҆и дꙋ́маше цр҃ꙋ мꙋчи́телю | and he spoke to the king, the tormentor |
29: | не е при́лилично те́бе цр҃ꙋ да приведе́шь женꙋ̀ филиповꙋ братꙋ твоемꙋ да бꙋде те́бе же́на | ʺit is not appropriate for you, o king, to bring the wife of your brother Philipp, to become your wifeʺ |
30: | тогив цр҃ь се злѐ расрь́ди на ҆иѡана | then the king became very angry with John |
31: | ҆и повеле́ | and he commanded |
32: | та го затвори́хꙋ ꙋ темни́цꙋ | so they incarcerated him in a dungeon |
33: | ҆á женꙋ̀ филипо́вꙋ приве́де | and he brought in the Philipp's wife |
34: | ҆и сьтво́ри блꙋ́дь са͒ ню | and he committed adultery with her |
35: | ҆и като го ҆испльнѝ ди҆аволь та стáнꙋ като бе́сень | and as the Devil filled him, he became like mad |
36: | ҆и ката: де́нь хо́деше пиꙗ́нь дово́лно ҆и сластолюбив ҆и блꙋ́дникь | and he was drunk everyday, and caring for pleasure and lechery |
37: | ҆и загꙋби си пáметь | and he lost his mind |
38: | ҆и ката чáсь привлáчеше пи́ꙗницꙋ ҆и блꙋ́дничини д͛ще́ри | and every hour he brought in a drunkard (?) and daughters of adultery |
39: | та ги то́й ҆и гоще́ва за безꙋ́мие него́во ѕло ҆и проро́ка ꙋбийство̀ | and he feasted with them because of his mindlessness and murdery of prophet |
40: | ҆и прине́сохꙋ їѡанꙋ чт͒ною ҆его̀ глáвꙋ на блю́до | and they brought the honorable head of John on a plate |
41: | ҆и дадоха ю блꙋ́дници ҆и прелюбодейници про́клети женѐ | and they gave it to the adulterous and lecherous and accursed woman (of Philipp) |
42: | и ҆ѡще крьвь капѐ | and the blood still dripped |
43: | а ҆ѡна дꙋмаше | and she spoke: |
44: | та҆ꙗ́ глава да бе́ше зане́сена ꙋ севáстию грáда | ʺif that head was brought to Sebastia!ʺ |
45: | ҆и да беше ѿнесена дале́кь ѿ ҆иерл͒има колкото да не мо́же да се чꙋе главá та їѡ҆анова ҆ꙋ иерл͒имь | ʺif that head of John was carried so far from Jerusalem, so that no one can hear it!ʺ |
46: | ҆и това чꙋ четве́ртовлáстникь цр҃ь ҆иродь пр͒рокоꙋби҆ица | and the Tetrarch, king Herod the Prophet-slayer, heard it |
47: | ҆и тáмо саврьши се сва рабо́та | and thus the deed was done |
48: | ҆и тоги́ва прїидо́хꙋ ꙋчени́ци хр͒то́ви | and then came the disciples of Christ |
49: | та ҆ѡви́хꙋ ҆ѡнова чт͒ное тело їѡáново сась дáри мло́гоценѝ | and they packed the honorable body of John with precious gifts |
50: | ҆и погребо́ше го чт͒но | and they duly buried him |
51: | то́го мл҃твами хр͒те бж҃е поми́лꙋй | o Christ the God, have mercy on us by his prayers |
52: | ҆и сп͒и дш҃и нáша васе́гда ҆и во век | and save our souls forever and ever |
53: | амн | amen |
