5: | Вь не́кое вре́ме бе́ше неко́й чл҃векь | once there was a man |
6: | ҆име́ мꙋ бе́ше захарїѧ | his name was Zechariah |
7: | пойдѐ да ҆идѐ ꙋ цр҃квꙋ | he went to a church |
8: | ҆и ѡтидѐ да сѐ мо́ли бг҃ꙋ | and he went away to pray to God |
9: | ҆á ст҃и ҆áр͛х҃ангель гáвриль ҆ꙗ́ви́ се ꙋ ѡл͛тáрь цр͛ко́вни | and then holy Archangel Gabriel appeared at the church altar |
10: | ҆и ре́че. | and he said: |
11: | захарїе разꙋме́й | ʺo Zechariah, may you understandʺ |
12: | да тѝ не́що рече́мь | ʺmay I tell you somethingʺ |
13: | же́на тво́ꙗ̀ е бе́сьпло́дна | ʺyour wife is barrenʺ |
14: | не рáжда децà | ʺshe does not give birth to childrenʺ |
15: | ҆á са͒ь божїем повеле́нїемь ще да ро́ди те́бе сн҃а же́на тво́ꙗ елисаве́та | ʺbut with God's will, your wife Elisabeth will bear a son to youʺ |
16: | ҆и ще да сѐ нарчее ҆име ҆емꙋ ї҆ѡань | ʺand he will be named Johnʺ |
17: | ҆и чꙋ товà захари́а | Zechariah heard it |
18: | ҆и ѡтиде́ си на сво́й до́мь | and he went to his home |
19: | ҆и рече на свою̀ стопаницꙋ елѝсаве́ти | and he said to his wife Elisabeth: |
20: | чꙋи й разꙋме́й елисавто сꙋпрꙋ́жнице моꙗ що ре́че ме́не ҆áрх҃гель гаври́ль | ʺmay you hear and understand, o Elisabeth, my wife, what Archangel Gabriel told meʺ |
21: | ще́шь да зáчнешь сн҃а вь ꙋтро́бꙋ .: твою ѿ се́мене мꙋ́жеско | ʺyou will beget a son in your body by the seed of manʺ |
22: | но н̶о̶ с̶а̶м̶а̶г̶о̶ х̵̵҃а̶ ҆и̶ т̶ь̶к̶м̶о̶ ѿ̶ д̶х̶҃а̶ с̶т̶҃а̶г̶о̶ ще́шь да зáчнешь сн҃а ї҆ѡана | ʺbut (?) you will beget a son (and give him the name?) Johnʺ |
23: | ҆и ѿ повеле́нїе ст҃ие бдци | ʺby the will of Holy Mother of Godʺ (?) |
24: | ҆елисаве́та ре́че мꙋ́жꙋ свое́мꙋ | Elisabeth said to her husband: |
25: | ҆азь ҆есмь не пло́дна | ʺI am barrenʺ |
26: | и не рáждамь децà | ʺI do not give birth to childrenʺ |
27: | ҆и догде бе́хь млáда не раждах | ʺand as long as I was young, I was not giving birthsʺ |
28: | че ми тоги́ва бе́ше прилично̀ да родим сн҃а | ʺthen it was appropriate for me to give birth to a sonʺ |
29: | ҆и сега смь млого застаре́ла | ʺand now I have become too oldʺ |
30: | ҆и минꙋло ми вре̂ме да ро́димь | ʺand the time for me to give birth has passedʺ |
31: | токо̀ товà елисаветꙗ ҆изре́че | this was all Elisabeth said |
32: | ҆и то́ꙗ ча͒ ҆ꙗ́ви се ҆áрх҃агель гáвриль | and in that moment Archangel Gabriel appeared |
33: | ҆и ре́че ҆ей | and he said to her: |
34: | ҆ѡ стáрице не пло́дна возрáдꙋи се | ʺo barren old woman, rejoice!ʺ |
35: | сам гд͒ь ре́че да ро́дишь сн҃а ва старо́сти да се: кр͒ти хр͒то́сь ѿ него́вꙋ рꙋ́кꙋ | ʺLord Himself said that you (shall) give birth to a son in your old age, so that Christ will be baptized by his handʺ |
36: | ҆и пáкь доиде дрꙋ́ги ҆ан҃гель гд͒нь | and again, another angel of God came |
37: | ҆и ре́че й | and he said to her: |
38: | ҆елисаве́то ꙋчꙋвай се | ʺo Elisabeth, guard yourself!ʺ |
39: | не пѝ вино̀ | ʺdo not drink wineʺ |
40: | ҆и не ꙗждь васáкакво не чїсто | ʺand do not eat anything impureʺ |
41: | ҆и хочешь да прие́мнешь сн҃а ꙋ ꙋтро́бꙋ твою̀ | ʺand you will receive a son in your bodyʺ |
42: | ҆и ҆и ще́шь да ро́дишь | ʺand you will give birth (to him)ʺ |
43: | ҆и саблꙗ̀ не щѐ да прїиде: на главꙋ него́вꙋ | ʺand a sabre will not come onto his headʺ |
44: | ҆и ще да бꙋ́де кр͒ти́ль бг҃ꙋ нáшемꙋ їи͒ссꙋ хт͒ꙋ то́ва детѐ щото щѐ да сѐ породи ва стáрости ѿ те́бе ели́саве́то | ʺand that child, which will be born in old age by yourself, o Elisabeth, will be the baptizer (?) of our God, Jesus Christʺ |
45: | ҆и прїиде ҆ѡнáꙗ̀ же́на | and the woman came |
46: | ҆и ре́че мꙋ́жꙋ свое́мꙋ | and she said to her husband: |
47: | чл҃вече бж҃їи при ме́не прїиде ҆еди́нь чл҃ве́кь като че беше ҆ан҃гель бж҃и | ʺo man of God, a man came to me, (looking) like an angel of Godʺ |
48: | ҆ꙗ́ко све́тло лицѐ ҆имаше на него ҆и ҆ꙗ́ко светли́ва преме́на | ʺthere was a very shiny face and very shiny clothes on himʺ |
49: | ҆и не може́хь добрѐ да погледáмь ꙋ него ѿ млого снанїе що бе́ше нá не́го | ʺand I could not look well because of the much light, which was on himʺ |
50: | та и ҆о́нь ми ре́че | ʺand he said to me:ʺ |
51: | ти́ щешь да зáчнешь: ҆и да ро́дишь сн҃а | ʺyou will conceive and give birth to a sonʺ |
52: | ҆áли не пѝ вино | ʺbut do not drink wineʺ |
53: | чꙋвай се | ʺguard yourselfʺ |
54: | ҆и нѐ ҆ꙗ́ждь васáкакво не чи́т͒о | ʺand do not eat anything impureʺ |
55: | ҆и ще да бꙋ́де на:сто́йникь бг҃ꙋ товà детѐ догде́ мꙋ дойде сáмрь́ть да ꙋ́мре | ʺand that child will be the ward for God until his own death will comeʺ |
56: | ҆и ще да кр͒тѝ не́бо ҆и зе́млю | ʺand he will baptize the heavens and the earthʺ |
57: | ҆и ре́че захари́а | and Zechariah said: |
58: | гд͒и те́бе се мо́лимь | ʺo Lord, I pray youʺ |
59: | то́ꙗ̀ чл҃векь що сѝ прати́ль нáмь да прїйде да просве́ти ҆и нáсь | ʺmay that man, whom you have sent, come to us to enlighten us tooʺ |
60: | ҆и прииде аг҃ель гд͒нь | and the angel of Lord came |
61: | ҆и ре́че | and he said: |
62: | захари́е ҆ꙗ́ ре́кохь на женꙋ̀ твою да сѐ чꙋ́ва | ʺo Zecharieh, I said to your wife to guard herselfʺ |
63: | кога ҆идѐ на ло́зие да не едѐ гро́здие ҆и да нѐ пи́ѐ ви́но | ʺmay she not eat grapes and drink wine, when she goes to the vineyardʺ |
64: | ҆и рече захари́а ко ҆аг҃елꙋ гд͒ню | and Zechariah said to the angel of Lord: |
65: | какво́ е те́бе ҆имѐ | ʺwhat is your name?ʺ |
66: | та ҆ако зáчне женà мо́ꙗ си́на ҅и ни́е те́бе да прослáвиме | ʺso that if my wife conceives a son, that we praise you tooʺ |
67: | ҆и рече ҆емꙋ ҆аг҃ель гд͒нь | and the angel of Lord said to him: |
68: | защо́ ме пи́ташь чл҃вече за ҆име мо́е | ʺo human, why do you ask me for my name?ʺ |
69: | ҆и то́ е ҆ꙗ́ко чꙋ́дно | ʺit is very miraculousʺ (?) |
70: | ҆и не ще҆ꙗ́ да си каже аг҃ель ҆имѐ то | and the angel did not want to say his name |
71: | ҆и зáче ҆илисаве́та прдтчꙋ | and Elisabeth conceived (John) the Forerunner |
72: | ҆и бл҃годареше б҃а | and she thanked God |
73: | ҆и вазигрá се мл҃нець ванꙋт͛рь ꙋ ꙋтро́бꙋ .:. | and the child inside her body danced |
74: | ҆и продꙋмà ҆оновà дете ꙋ коре́ма майкин си | and the child spoke from his mother's bosom |
75: | ҆и дꙋ́маше | and it spoke: |
76: | фáла те́бе гд͒и | ʺglory (be) to you, o Lord!ʺ |
77: | ҆и матѝ мꙋ като чꙋ че продꙋмà дете́ то ꙋ ню̀ ҆а ѡ́на се. ꙋди́ви | and as his mother heard, that the child in her speaks, she was amazed |
78: | ҆и фáнꙋ да дꙋма | and she began to speak: |
79: | фáла бг҃ꙋ | ʺglory (be) to God!ʺ |
80: | ѿ кꙋде́ би ми тá҆ꙗ рáбота мене | ʺhow come such a thing happens to me?ʺ |
81: | та заче́хь сн҃а | ʺso I conceive a sonʺ |
82: | та дойде мáти гд͒а мое́го при ме́не | ʺthen, mother of my Lord comes to meʺ |
83: | ҆и доне́се ми мло́го дáры | ʺand she brings me many presents!ʺ |
84: | ҆и рече мáти гд͒нꙗ да ҆избáви род чл͒вечески | and the mother of Lord said, that (he will?) save the human kind |
85: | по не́коли́ко днѝ роди елѝсаве́та ї҆ѡанà кр͒ти́телꙗ | after few days Elisabeth gave birth to John the Baptist |
86: | защо. сáмь хт͒о́сь бе́ше ре́кль да сѐ роди про́ро́кь ҆и҆ѡань да сѐ ҆испльнѝ законь ҆и ве́ра | as Christ Himself had said, that a prophet John will be born, for the law and the faith to be fulfilled |
87: | ҆и коги се ро́ди ї҆ѡáнь | and when was John born? |
88: | ꙋ мц͒а ҆иꙋнїа: ва ·кд· день | on the 24th day of month June |
89: | то́҆ꙗ де́нь мло́го чꙋдеса бе́ше | there were many miracles on that day |
90: | слдце то .:. вазигрà .:. ·г· пꙋ́ти, | the sun started to dance three times |
91: | ҆и мц͒о ҆и звезди́ те потреперáхꙋ | the moon and the stars trembled |
92: | види́те ли хр͒ти҆ꙗ́не коли́ко е те́жекь ҆и голе́мь празни́кь | do you see, o Christians, how serious and great is this feast? |
93: | защо̀ бе́ше мати ї҆ѡ҆ано́ва не пло́дна | because John's mother was barren |
94: | не раждаше де́ца | she did not give birth to children |
95: | ҆и като бе́ше застаре́ла ҆ели́саве́та ·ч· годинь ҆а захари́а мꙋ́жь ҆ели́савети́нь сто годи́нь бе́ше захари́а | and when she became 90 years old, Zechariah, her husband, was 100 years (old) |
96: | ҆и коги́ се ро́ди ї҆ѡань тоги́ва ди́гнꙋ рꙋ́кꙋ | and when John was born, he raised his hand |
97: | та рáзреши ҆и бл҃го́словѝ да бꙋ́де рáдость ҆и веселбà по сь́вь ст҃ь | and he decided and spoke praise, so that there is joy and happiness in the whole world |
98: | ви́дите ли хр͒тиáни коли́ко милꙋ́ва нáсь гд͒ь | do you see, o Christians, how much Lord loves us? |
99: | ҆и дава ни добро̀ ҆и прáзници да празнꙋ́ваме ҆и да почи́таме бг҃а ҆и ст҃аго пр͒ро́ка ҆и прдтечà: кр͒ти́телꙗ гд͒нꙗ ї҆ѡанà | and He gives us what is good and feasts, so that we (can) celebrate and respect God and the holy prophet and Forerunner, Baptizer of Lord, John |
100: | защо́ се гд͒ь по́родѝ ҆и ст҃и ҆и҆ѡань зарадѝ нáсь да нѝ ҆избáвать ѿ неве́рници | because (both) Lord and St. John were born to free us from unbelievers |
101: | ҆а нїꙗ ѿ ѕль нáшь разꙋмь | but we, because of our bad thoughts |
когѝ дойде некои цр͒ки празни́кь | when a royal (church?) feast comes | |
҆á нїе не сме, кадьрь да го̀ попразнꙋ́ваме ҆и́ да сѝ ҆ѡдьхнеме | we are not able to celebrate it and have a rest | |
102: | нело ꙋ прáзникь сакаме най млого да си ꙋрáбо́тиме | rather, we want to do most of our work during a feast day |
103: | ҆á гд͒ь се срь́ди на нáсь | but Lord is angry with us |
104: | та ни хꙋ́џе не дава береке́ть на землꙗ́ та | and thus He does not give abundance to our land |
105: | и коги се ро́ди ї҆ѡань ҆и мт҃и него́ва ҆ѡповиваше ꙋ пе́лени ҆отро́че то | and when John was born, his mother packed the child in diapers |
106: | ҆и пи́тахꙋ захари́ю ҆оц҃а ҆и҆ѡано́ва какво̀ да мꙋ наречꙋ́ть ҆име ст҃ое | and they asked Zechariah, his father, what will be his holy name |
107: | ҆и ѡтц҃ь него́вь ре́че | and his father said |
108: | ҆и мт҃и него́ва ҆елисáве́та ре́че | and his mother Elisabeth also said: |
109: | да мꙋ̀ наречете ҆име ї҆ѡань | ʺmay you call him Johnʺ |
110: | ҆и ѿврьзáхꙋ се ҆ꙋста ї҆ѡанꙋ и ꙗзи́кь | and the mouth and tongue of John became unbound |
111: | и дꙋмаше | and he spoke |
112: | ҆и бл҃годáреше бг҃а | and he praised God |
113: | ҆и чꙋдехꙋ се сви люди́е що бе́хꙋ тáмо | and all the people, who were there, were amazed |
114: | ҆и дꙋмáхꙋ | and they said: |
115: | слáва те́бе гд͒и | ʺglory to you, o Lord!ʺ |
116: | какво̀ хо́че товà детѐ да бꙋ́де | ʺwhat shall become of this child?ʺ |
117: | ҆и рꙋкà: гд͒нꙗ бе́ше при не́го | and the hand of the Lord was by him |
118: | ҆и захари́а ҆оц҃ь него́въ ҆испль́ни се сась рáдось | and Zechariah, his father, was filled with joy |
119: | ҆и рече | and he said: |
120: | бл҃гословень гд͒ь бг҃ь мо́й | ʺmay Lord, my God, be praised!ʺ |
121: | ҆и ти мое ҆отро́че ще́шь да се наре́чешь пр͒ро́кь ви́шномꙋ ҆оцꙋ | ʺand you, my child, will be called as a prophet of the highest Fatherʺ |
122: | ҆и расте́ше | and he grew |
123: | ҆и кре́пеше се дх҃омь ст҃имь .:. | and became stronger by the Holy Spirit |
124: | То́го. ст҃и́ми: мл҃твами хр͒тѐ бж҃е поми́лꙋй | have mercy by his holy prayers, o Christ the God |
125: | ҆и сп͒и дш҃и нáши | and save our souls |
васе́гда ны́нѣ ҆и пр͒но | always, now and ever | |
҆и во век веков | and forever | |
