1: === бл͒гове́ни хр͒тиáни послꙋша҆ите [prologue] Blessed Christians, listen!
2: да ви скаже́ме що пи́ше ꙋ пи́санїе [prologue] may we tell you what is written in the Scriptures
3: какво испи́тва гд͒ь чл҃века и нá то҆ꙗ́ ст҃ь [prologue] How the Lord tests the human, even this saint
4: беше ҆едн͛о вре́ме цр҃ь давид нá землю жи́вь [prologue] once there lived king David on the Earth
5: ҆о́ч҃е бл͒вѝ проче́стѝ моли́твáми ст҃и ҆о́ц҃ь [prologue] o Father, bless the reader by prayers of holy fathers
6: Пише ꙋ зако́нь It is written in the Law
7: коги бе́ше цр҃ь дави́дь на зе́млю живь та сáкаше да ѝзбро́й нáро́дь ҆евреиски да ги́ знàе колко́ сꙋ лꙋге ꙋ него́во то цр͒тво back then king David was alive in the country and he wanted to count the Jewish people in order to know how many people there were in his kingdom
8: ҆и зова цр҃ь дави́дь п҆исател҆ꙗ́ сво́его ї҆ѡава And king David called his scribe Joab
9: ҆и рече мꙋ and he told him:
10: ї҆ѡаве ҆идѝ ҆избро́и ми лю́дие те. ѿ версаве́и град даже до дáна ʺo Joab, go and count me the people from the city Beersheba to ʺ(the tribe of) Danʺ
11: ҆и запиши́ ги ʺand write them downʺ
12: ҆и донеси ми писмо́ то да ви́димь колко сꙋ лю́дие по мое́ то цр͒тво ʺand bring me the letter to see how many people there are in my kingdomʺ
13: и́ рече мꙋ ї҆ѡáвь And Joab told him:
14: мло́го сꙋ цр҃ꙋ ʺthey are many, o kingʺ
15: ҆и ко҆ꙗ́ ти́ е нево́лꙗ дá ги бройшь ʺand what worry besets you, that you (have to) count them?ʺ
16: сви́ те сꙋ тво́й раби ʺall of them are your servantsʺ
17: макáрь мло́го ҆или мáлко ʺbe they many or fewʺ
҆и пáкь да не́ би било̀ не́що ѕле пре́дь бг҃а щото ще́ме ни́е да напрáвиме ʺbut what if it would be something bad in front of God, what we are going to do?ʺ
18: ҆и цр҃ь пре́сили ҆иѡ҆ава да йде да гѝ пребро́й and the king forced Joab to go to count them
19: ҆и ѡтидѐ and he went
20: ҆и пре́брои ги що́ бехꙋ ҆евре́е and he counted those (them) who were Hebrews
21: тькмо ꙋ ҆иерꙋсали́мь наиде ҆и҆ѡ́авь ·҂вр· све женѝ ҆и де́ца ҆и стар͛ци Just in Jerusalem, Joab found 2100, all women, children, and elderly
22: ҆и ва їꙋдей на҆иде наро ·ѱо· хил҆ꙗ́де And in Judaea he found 770 thousand people
23: ҆и ѡстанꙋ ҆ѡще мло̀го ме́сто се́ла ҆и грáдове не бро́҆ени and there remained much more places, villages and cities, uncounted
24: защо̀ то̀ва повеле́нїе ѕло се ҆ꙗ́ви пред бг҃а напáде мо́рь на бро́ени те лю́диѐ Because this command appeared bad to God, he let a plague fall on the counted people
25: ҆и млого ҆ꙋми́рахꙋ and many died
26: ҆и гд͒ь ре́че гáдꙋ що бе́ше слꙋгà дави́дꙋ цр҃ꙋ And the Lord told Gad who was king David's servant
27: ҆иди ре́чи господáрꙋ си ʺGo and tell your masterʺ
28: ҆е́те тáка рече гд͒ь ʺthis is what Lord says:ʺ
29: ще да пꙋ́щи три́ зли́ни на те́бе зарадѝ зло́ то що си тѝ ꙋчини́ль ʺI will cast (one of these) three evils on you because of the wrong you have committedʺ
30: ҆изберѝ ѿ ти́ꙗ три́ ѕли́ни ʺChoose from those three evilsʺ
31: ҆или три́ годи́нь да бꙋ́де глáдь по свꙋ зе́млю ʺeither three years there shall be hunger in the entire countryʺ
32: ҆или ·г· мц͒и да бе́гате ѿ ропство̀ ʺor you will run away from captivity for three monthsʺ
33: ҆или ·г· дни да бꙋде мо́рь на ти́ꙗ люди́е тькмо що си́ ги бройль ʺor for three days there will be a plague on your people there that you have countedʺ
34: ҆и отиде гáдь ʺand Gad went (to the king)ʺ
35: ҆и каза дави́дꙋ. and he told king David
36: цр҃ꙋ какво̀ такà рече бг҃ь ʺo king, thus God saysʺ
37: ҆áм҆и ҆избери цр҃ꙋ ѿ ти́à три́ те ѕли́ни ко҆ꙗ́ ти е по ꙋгадна да ҆идемь да кажемь бг҃ꙋ ʺNow choose, o king, from these three evils, which is more pleasing to you so that I go and tell Godʺ
38: тогива рче цр҃ь двид Then king David said:
39: ҆и три те дꙋми́ ми сꙋ тешки и ꙋси́лни ʺall the three sentences (ʺwordsʺ) are heavy and severe to meʺ
40: по бо́ле ми е да припáднемь на мл͒ть бж҃иа не́жели да бегамь ѿ рꙋка чло́веческа ʺIt is better to me to fall in divine mercy than to run away from the human handʺ
41: ҆ами по́ добре да бꙋде мо́рь ʺWell, better it shall be, if there would be a plagueʺ
42: три дни тоги́ва пꙋщѝ гд͒ь ҆áр͛х҃ан͛гела ми́хаи́ла Then three days God sent the Archangel Michael
43: за трѝ ча͒ве ҆измори ·о· хи́лꙗде людие in three hours, he killed 70 thousand people
44: тагáва ре́че гд͒ь ҆áн͛г҃елꙋ then God told the angel:
45: стани́ ан͛г҃еле ʺstand up, o angelʺ
46: до́ста мори ʺyou killed enoughʺ
47: ҆и престанꙋ по́морь and the plague stopped
48: ҆и погле́да давид цр҃ь and king David looked
49: ҆и видѐ ҆áн͛г҃е́ла че стой ҆и дер͛жи мьчь ҆ꙋ рꙋкꙋ And he saw the angel that was standing and held a sword in the hand
50: висинà ан͛гелꙋ бе́ше ѿ землю до не́бо The height of the angel was from Earth to the heaven
51: де́сна рꙋка мꙋ беше простре́на над ї҆ерꙋсáлимь his right hand was streched over Jerusalem
52: ҆и ѿ страх негов давид цр҃ь паде на лицѐ сво́е and King David fell on his face out of fear of him
53: ҆и моле́ше се And he prayed
54: ҆и рече
55: гд͒и до́ста е б҆ило срьдьба на ме́не ʺo Lord, enough wrath fell on meʺ
56: нь да дойде мл͒ть тво́҆ꙗ́ на ме́не ʺBut may your mercy come to meʺ
57: тоги́ва ре́че ҆áрх҃ан͛гель ми́ха҆иль Then the Archangel Michael said:
58: дави́де ско́ро ҆о́ꙋчини тꙋка на то́ва гꙋ́вно мл҃твꙋ да престáне срьдьба бж҃иа на те́бе ʺDavid, do your prayer here soon on this ths threshing floor so that the divine torment on you stopsʺ
59: ҆и ҆ꙋчи́ни двид слꙋ́жба бг҃ꙋ and (so) David did service to God
60: ҆и поиде давид цр҃ь при́ ѡногова чл҃века дето мꙋ беше гꙋ́вно то And King David went to his person who the threshing floor belonged to
61: зове́ха го ҆орна They called him Araunah
62: та мꙋ ре́че давид And David told him:
63: ҆о́рне- брáте продай ми гꙋмно то твое ҆и пчени́ца та щото́ ꙗ врьше́шь ҆и волове те твоими ʺo Araunah, brother, sell me your threshing floor and your wheat, which you are threshing and your oxenʺ
64: продáй ҆и рало то ҆и ерема ʺSell (me) the plow and yoke, tooʺ
65: ҆и продáде ги, ҆о́р͛на, And Araunah sold them
66: ҆и сасе́че цр҃ь рало́ то ı ҆ерѐма наме́сто, дрь́ва and the king cut down cut down the plow and the yoke instead of trees
67: ҆и воло́ве те закла, and he slaughtered the oxen
68: ҆и свари́ ги сась пчени́ца та на҆едно̀ and he cooked them with the wheat at once
69: та ꙋчи́ни слꙋ́жба, бг҃ꙋ and he did the service to God
70: тоги́ва мꙋ гд͒ь ҆ѡпро́сти согре́шенїе то що бе́ше сагреши́ль бг҃ꙋ, Then God forgave him the sin, by which he had wronged Him
71: да н҆е би било такѡ не би́ се. ꙋписáло ва пи́санїе сїе if it did not happen, it would not be written in this Scripture
72: тáка повеле, мл͒тиви, бг҃ь, The merciful God ordered it like this
73: ҆и тако се сотвори And like this it was done
