6: ст҃и безсре́бреници ко́зма ҆и дамиáнь бе́хꙋ сꙋщи брáйкꙗ ва вре́ме рим͛скаго цр҃а кари́на The holy unmercenaries Cosmas and Damian were brothers in the time of the Roman Emperor Carinus
7: ҆á ро́дени бехꙋ ва замлю ҆áсади́тꙋ And they were born in the Asadit land
8: бащá имь бе́ше ҆ели́нець
9: ҆а мáика имь бе́ше хр͒тиáка And their mother was Christian
10: ҆име е́й беше ѳе҆ѡдота Her name was Theodota
11: ст҃и ко́зма ҆и дамиань бехꙋ млáди деца St. Cosmas and Damian were young children
12: ҆и наꙋчи́хꙋ се кни́гꙋ хр͒то́вꙋ And they learned the book of Christ
13: ҆и верꙋ: хр͒тиан͛скꙋ тврь́до почи́тахꙋ And they read (a lot) about the Christian faith
14: ҆и дх҃ь ст҃и ҆имь повелѐ And the Holy Spirit commanded them
15: та се ҆изьꙋчи́хꙋ врачев͛скꙋ хи́трось да враче́ваю ҆и да ҆исцел͛вают болни чл҃ве́ци So they learned the art of medicine to cure and to heal ill persons
16: не токо̀ чл҃ве́ци да ҆исцел͛ват но ҆и доби́токь ѿ све́какви бо́лести Not only to heal persons to heal, but also cattle from any diseases
17: ҆и нищо ценà не ꙋзи́махꙋ за ле́кꙋвáнїе and they did not take any pay for the healing
18: не лакомехꙋ ни за сребро̀ ни́ за злáто They were not greedy for either silver or gold
19: ҆и дрꙋго мло́го дꙋ́махꙋ на чл҃ве́ци който не бе́хꙋ кр͒тенѝ да се покр͒тꙋть ҆и да верꙋвать гд͒а бг҃а нáшего ї и͒а хр͒та сина бж҃їѧ And they talked a lot to people who were not Christians to get baptized themselves and to believe in the Lord, our God, and in Jesus Christ, the son of God
20: ҆á неко́и зли́ чл҃ве́ци ҆и зави́стници ҆ѡтидохꙋ прѝ цр҃а рим͛скаго and some evil and envious people went to the Roman Emperor
21: та ги наклѐвети́хꙋ and they blackmailed them
защо̀ не сꙋ враче́ве for being not doctors
нело сꙋ̀ магесници but rather that they were magicians
҆и какво̀ ꙋчать чл҃ве́ци да верꙋ́ють вь хр͒тà and how they were teaching people to believe in Christ
҆и какво чи́нать чꙋдесà and how they were performing miracles
22: ҆и прїведохꙋ ги прѝ цр҃а кари́на And they brought them to Emperor Carinus
23: ҆и рече ймь цр҃ь
24: ҆ѡ чл҃ве́ци вие каквà маги́а чините ʺO people, what kind of magic do you performʺ
25: та ҆исцел͛вате бол͛ни ʺas you cure the illʺ
26: ҆и ꙋ́чите ги да верꙋ́ють ва хр͒тà распе́таго ʺand you teach them to believe in Christ, the crucifiedʺ
27: ҆á они́ мꙋ ре́кохꙋ and they said to him:
28: о̂ цр҃ꙋ чести́ти на многа ле́та жи́вь бꙋ́ди ʺO honorable king, may you live for many years!ʺ
29: нїе магїй не знáеме ʺwe know no magicʺ
30: но́ сáсь по́мощь бж҃їю ҆и сась силꙋ ст҃ей тро́йцѝ ҆исцел͛ваме бол͛ни ʺbut we heal the sick with the help of God and the power of the Holy Trinityʺ
31: защо ни сáмь бг҃ь повелѐ да йсцел͛ваме бол͛ни ʺbecause God himself told us to cure the illʺ
32: защо е еди́нь бг҃ь нб҃сни цр҃ь щото̀ сꙋди на жи́ви ҆и на мер͛тви ʺbecause there is one God, heavenly king, who judges the living and the deadʺ
33: тоги́ва ҆о́нꙗ цр҃ь като чꙋ такви́ва дꙋ́ми ѿ ко́змꙋ и ѿ дамꙗ́на ꙗ́ко се злѐ рáсрьди, цр҃ь and when that king heard these words from Cosmas and Damian, he got very angry
34: ҆и дꙋмаше ҆имь and he told them
35: ҆и плáшеше гѝ мло́го да ги мꙋ́чи злѐ дано́ би се ѿре́кли ѿ хр͒та. And he threatened to torture them in order to deny Christ
36: ҆и ҆они́ се помоли́хꙋ бг҃ꙋ мл͒ти́вомꙋ and they prayed to God, the merciful
37: та ҆ѡбрьнꙋ бг҃ь, на цр҃а, ли́це́ то кам͛то плещї те назáть нá криво and God turned the king's face askew around to the shoulders
38: та го ви́де сви́чкиꙗ наро́дь щото̀ бехꙋ ҆ѡкол͛ него And all the people who were around him saw it
39: тоги́ва ре́че цр҃ь then the king said:
40: ҆ѡ козмо ҆и дам҆ꙗ́не бꙋдете ми помощни́ци ʺO Cosmas and Damian, be my helpersʺ
41: ҆и помоле́те се бг҃ꙋ вáшемꙋ ʺand pray to your Godʺ
42: дано́ ми бг҃ь вáшь ҆обрь́не лице́ то пáки прáво каквото сї е би́ло ʺmay your God turns my face right again as it wasʺ
43: че не мо́жемь да хо́димь на напре́дь ʺBecause I cannot walk forwardʺ
҆и да гле́дамь на назáть ʺand not look backʺ
44: ҆и ҆ѡни́ се помоли́хꙋ бг҃ꙋ and they prayed to God
45: ҆и ре́кохꙋ and said:
46: мл͒ти́ви бж҃е те́бе се моли́мо гд͒и ʺO merciful God, we pray to you, o Lordʺ
47: ҆ꙗвѝ си́лꙋ твою̀ ҆и ҆ѡбрьни лице́ то цр҃ꙋ паки на напредь каквото си ѐ било̀ прáво ʺshow your power and turn the face of the king in front again how it was rightʺ
48: ҆и ҆исцелѐ цр҃ь: кари́нь and Emperor Carinus was healed
49: ҆и сáсь свѐ добрѐ повер͛ва ва хр͒та ҆и сáсь ве́сь до́мь него́вь and with everything in order, he believed in Christ and with him his entire house
50: ҆и пѡкр͒ти сѝ свá та че́лꙗдь негова and he baptized his family
51: па тоги́ва ре́че цр҃ь and then the king said:
52: ҆ѡ ст҃и ко́змо ҆и тѝ .:. ст҃и дам҆ꙗне прїиде́те да йдемо, ꙋ до́ма моего̀ сáсь голе́ма по́честь: да вѝ дарꙋ́вамь ʺO St. Cosmas and you, St. Damian, come so that we can go to my home with big honour to give youʺ
53: ҆á ҆ѡни ре́кохꙋ but they said:
54: бꙋди: во́лꙗ твоꙗ̀ цр҃ꙋ ʺyour will be done, o kingʺ
55: ҆и то҆ꙗ́ чáсь нико̀и гї не видѐ, кадѐ ҆ѡтидохꙋ and in that moment nobody saw them where they went away
56: като ҆и свекї сти́хи бж҃їй Like all the divine elements (?)
57: ҆и ҆ѡтидо́хꙋ по дрꙋ́ги стрáни да йсцел͛вать бол͛ни And they went to other countries to cure the ill
58: ҆и прїиде ҆е́днà женà And a woman came
59: ҆име й бе́ше падїа Her name was Palladia
60: ҆и ре́че and she said:
61: ҆ѡ свети́тели хр͒то́ви ҆исцеле́те ҆и ме́не си́ротꙋ ʺO Saints of Christ, cure the poor myself, too!ʺ
62: защо̀ мло́го потегли́хь гор͛ка: нꙋ́жда ʺbecause I suffered a dire hardshipʺ
63: моли́м ви се рáби хр͒то́ви ꙋгодницѝ бж҃їй помилꙋйте ме сиротꙋ: ʺI beg you, followers of Christ, divine healers, have mercy with the poor myselfʺ
64: ҆и ҆ѡнїа чꙋ́дотво́рци исцели́хꙋ ѡнꙋю And those miracle workers cured that woman
женꙋ And she saw that she was cured
65: ҆и ѡна видѐ добрѐ че йсцеле
66: ҆и рече and he said:
67: ѡͯ мл͒ти́ви бж҃е сегà видо́хь че исьцеле́хь ҆и добрѐ ҆ѡздрáвехь ʺO merciful God, now I saw that I was healed and recovered wellʺ
68: да бе́хь занела макáрь трѝ ҆ꙗица да гѝ дарꙋвам ʺmay I bring at least three eggs to give them a presentʺ
69: ҆и зане́се трѝ ꙗйца да ги подадѐ ст҃омꙋ дамꙗ̀нꙋ and she brought three eggs to give them to St. Damian
70: ҆а ѡнь й ре́че but he told her:
71: ҆ѡ хр͒тиáн͛ко нїе не смѐ митáре дá зи́маме ми́то за исьцеле́нїе ʺO Christian, we are not publicans to take toll for curingʺ
72: нело̀ ҆исце́л͛ваме чл҃ве́ци ҆и дѡби́такь за ꙋвере́нїе гд͒не ʺbecause we cure humans and livestock for the sake of faith in the Lordʺ
73: ҆и не щеа ст҃и. дам҆ꙗ́нь да зе́ме ҆ꙗ́йца та And St. Damian did not want to take the eggs
74: ҆á пади́а пожалѝ but Palladia was sad
75: ҆и заплáка and she cried
76: ҆и закле ст҃аго дамꙗ́на за йме хр͒то́во and she swore St. Damian in the name of Christ
77: ҆и като го̀ зáкле ҆á ҆ѡнь по́мисли and as she was swearing him, he rethought
78: ҆и ꙋзе ҆ꙗ́йцá та and he took the eggs
79: по́сле разбра ст҃и ко́зма че е ꙋзель ст҃и дамꙗн трѝ ҆ꙗ́ица ми́то за йсцеле́нїе Afterwards St. Cosmas understood that St. Damian took the three eggs as a toll for the curing
80: ҆и рáсрьди се на не́го and he got angry at him
81: ҆и ре́че and he said:
82: когѝ ꙋмре ст҃и дамї҆áнь да го̀ не погребꙋ́ть бли́зꙋ при́ светáго ко́змꙋ ʺWhen St. Damian dies, they should not bury him next to St. Cosmasʺ
83: защо́ е ꙋзе́ль три ҆ꙗ́йца because he took three eggs
84: ҆и дойде вре́ме ҆и чáсь and it came the time and the hour
85: ҆и пре́стави́ се ст҃и ко́зма and St. Cosmas died (ʺintroduced himself [before the Lord]ʺ)
86: ҆и по не́го по́сле престáви се ҆и ст҃и дамиӑнь and afterwards St. Damian died too
87: ҆избрáхꙋ се лꙋге and the people gathered
88: помисли́хꙋ кадѐ да погребꙋ́ть ст҃аго далекь като ймь бе́ше зарꙋчáль ст҃и ко́зма They thought about where to bury the Saint far enough, as they were ordered by St. Cosmas
89: ҆и чꙋдехꙋ се and they wondered
90: ҆и ми́слехꙋ какво̀: да сотво́рꙋть and they thought how they could do it
91: ҆и до гдѐ лꙋге́ те да сѐ .:. доми́слат какво̀ да сотво́рꙋть and before the people could think of what to do
҆и ꙋ то́а чáсь дойде ҆еднà ками́ла (ʺandʺ) in the moment, a camel came
92: ҆и ҆ѡна беше побесне́ла ѿ прокле́таго д҆ꙗ́вола she had been possessed by the accursed devil
93: ҆и не҆ꙗ́ бе́хꙋ ҆исцели́ли ст҃и враче́ве the holy doctors had cured her too
94: ҆ѡнà прїйде при ҆ѡни́а лю́дие she came to those people
95: ҆и прѡ́дꙋма като чл҃ве́кь And she spoke like a human
96: ҆и рече And she said:
97: ҆ѡ чл҃ве́ци, бж҃їй, погребе́те ст҃аго дамї҆ꙗ́на бли́зꙋ при ст҃áго ко́змꙋ ʺO humans, bury St. Damian close to St. Cosmasʺ
98: защо̀ ҆о́нь не ѐ ꙋзе́ль тиꙗ́ трѝ ҆ꙗ́йца за ценà ʺBecause he did not take these three eggs as chargeʺ
99: нело ги ѐ ꙋзе́ль защо́ го зáкле: женà за йме хр͒то́во ʺBut he took them because the woman swore him in the name of Christʺ
100: затовá ги е ꙋзель ʺTherefore, he took themʺ
101: а нѐ за печал͛бꙋ ʺAnd not for profitʺ
102: та҆ꙗ́ них͛на преслáвнаѧ чꙋдесà бе́ше по напредь ѿ рождество̀ хр͒тово ·спд· годїны по напредь Their glory wonders were 284 years before Christ's birth
103: защо сѐ ҆ѡни бе́хꙋ родили пре́дь хр͒та дале́ко по напред because they were born long before Christ
104: ҆И ва то́й вре́ме ҆имаше ҆единь чл҃ве́кь рабо́тникь And at this time there was a man, a worker
105: рабо́теше лете ва вре́ме жáтва he worked in the summer, during the time of the harvest
106: ҆и оти́де на ни́вꙋ свою да жь́не And he went to his field to harvest
107: ҆и жьнꙋ̀ до пладне And he harvested until the noon
108: ҆и подо́сади мꙋ рабо́та And the work bored him
109: ҆и: сл҃це припе́че And the sun burned
110: ҆и станꙋ мꙋ, же́га And the heat rose in him
111: ҆á онь ѿтидѐ да се́дне подь сенькю да сѝ по҆одх͛не ҆и по҆ꙗ́де .:. мáло хлебь and he went to sit in the shadow to relax and to eat some bread
112: ҆и напи се водꙋ and he drank water
113: ҆и легнꙋ, and he laid down
114: ҆и заспа те́жкь сьнь and he fell asleep in a heavy sleep
115: и като бе́ше заспáль ҆о́нь си бе́ше ҆ѡтво́риль ꙋстá та and when he fell asleep his mouth opened
116: ҆и еднà проклета ѕмиà допльзе ҆и ꙋлезнá мꙋ ꙋ ꙋстá та and one cursed snake crawled and entered him in the mouth
117: ҆á ҆онь си́ромáхь не е ни ꙋсе́тиль And he, the poor, did not even feel it
118: ҆и мало поспа and he slept a bit
119: ҆и коги́ се разбꙋ́ди ҆ѡнꙗ члове́кь and when this person awoke
120: ҆и не ꙋсети ни́что зло ꙋ себе and he did not feel anything wrong in his body
121: па ҆ѡти́де да си жь́не на ни́ва та and he went to harvest on the field
122: та жьнꙋ до нá вечер and he harvested the field until the evening
123: па си ҆ѡти́де на вечер та до́ма та си And he went to his home in the evening
124: повечерà
125: па легнꙋ да спй and he laid down to sleep
126: тоги́ва почѐ ѡ͒нáꙗ змиꙗ да ри́та ҆оꙋ́ него зле then this snake began to kick in him badly
127: ҆á ҆ѡнь приви́ка And he yelled:
128: ско́ро ми ви́ще що ми пль́зи живо ꙋ срдце то ʺQuickly look at me what is crawling lively at the heartʺ
129: тоги́ва се разбꙋди́ха сви не́гови че́да домáшни then all his ʺhomeʺ children woke
130: та фанаха дá го пипать and they started to touch it
131: ѝ не можеха ни́що да познáють and they could not guess it
132: тогѝва ҆о́нꙗ̀ чл҃векь фáнꙋ те́шко дá плáче then this man started to cry
133: ѝ тешко приви́кꙋва and he moaned heavily
134: ҆и жално се моле and he grievously prayed:
135: ѡͯ леле ст҃и ко́змо ѝ ти ст҃и дами́анѐ помогне́те ҆и мене сиромáхꙋ ʺO, St. Cosmas and you, St. Damian, help poor myself, tooʺ
136: дано би и ꙗ ѝс͛целель ѿ вашꙋ рꙋкꙋ ʺmay I, too, be healed by your handʺ
137: ҆и вь то́ꙗ ча͒ при́идоха слꙋги хр͒тови ко́зма и дамиáнь ҆и дадоха мꙋ тежекь сьнь and in this moment came the servants of Christ, Cosmas and Damian, and gave him a heavy sleep
138: та заспа and he fell asleep
139: ҆и поче ҆онáꙗ зми́ꙗ да ѝспль́зꙋва ѝз ꙋстá та мꙋ and that snake began to crawl out of his mouth
140: и излезе and came out
141: та гледáха чꙋдо всь народ що бе́ше тамо що направи́хꙋ ст҃и враче́ве чꙋдесà and all the people who were there saw the miracle the holy miracle doctors performed
142: й собꙋдї се ҆ѡн҆ꙗ́ чл҃векь and this person woke up
143: ҆и рече дá не ꙋби́е не́кой чл҃векь тàꙗ̀ зм͛и́ꙗ and he said that nobody should kill that snake
144: защо е рече́но ѿ ст҃аго козмꙋ ҆и ѿ ст҃аго дами́ана да ҆иде ва ҆о́гнь не гаси́ми ҆и ва мꙋкꙋ ве́чнꙋю because it was told to him by the St. Cosmas and St. Damian to go in the unquenchable fire and the eternal agony
145: сь́сь мл͒твꙋ ҆и помо́щь ст҃имь враче́вемь and with the prayer and the power of the holy doctors
146: те́ми же слва ҆и чт͒ь ҆и поклоненїе ҆о́ц҃ꙋ ѝ сн҃ꙋ ѝ ст҃омꙋ дх҃ꙋ. ны҃нѣ ҆и при́сно ҆и во ве́ки веко́вь Glory and worship to them as well as to the father, the son, and the holy spirit now, close?, and forever
