2: да покажемо слво за богатаго ҆и҆ѡва. may we show you a homily about the wealthy Job
какво̀ бг҃ь ҆испитꙋва чв҃ека (about) how God tests man
3: Злинꙗ̀ ҆и нáпасть що хо́ди по чл҃ве́ци ѿ трѝ рáботи бива Evil and scourge that plague the people come from three things
4: ҆едно̀ ѿ ҆испитию бж҃ию One of God's trials (is),
когѝ ҆испитꙋва бг҃ь чл҃ве́ка дали лю́би бг҃а when God tests man's love for Him,
коги́ мꙋ до́йде ѿ не́где некоꙗ бедà when calamity comes upon him from somewhere.
5: вто́ро би́ва коги́ се ѿлꙋчи бг҃ь ѿ чл҃века за не́кое согреше́нїе The second one is when God separates Himself from man because of a sin
6: ҆á тре́то би́ва нáй зло And the third one is the worst -
7: когѝ сасвѐ ҆остáви бг҃ь чл҃века when God abandons man entirely
8: ѿ ҆искꙋшенїе бж҃ие би́ва ҆и зло ҆и бедà ҆и напасть From God's temptation comes evil and calamity and scourge
какво́то потеглѝ ҆и прáведнѝ ҆и҆овь which the righteous Job suffered himself
9: че бе́ше..: чл҃ве́кь прáведень ҆и до́брь ҆и мл͒ти́вь.: for he was a righteous and good and merciful man
пре́дь бг҃а ҆и предь чл҃ве́ци in front of God and others
10: и҆ѡ́вь ҆имаше седмь си́нове ҆и дьщер͛ки трѝ Job had seven sons and three daughters
11: ҆и ѡв͛ци ҆имáше се́д͛мь хи́лꙗды he had seven thousand sheep
12: ками́ли ҆имаше трѝ хилꙗди he had three thousand camels
13: воло́ве ҆имаше две́ хи́лꙗдѝ he had two thousand oxen
14: ҆и крáви пе́ть сто́тинь and five hundred cows
15: ҆и конѐ хер͛гели́ꙗ сед͛мь сто́тинь and a herd of seven hundred horses
16: ҆и ратáе ҆имаше мло́го he had many farmhands too
17: ҆и работа ҆и слꙋгꙋвáне безькрáйно.: мло́го and work without end
18: ҆á коли́ко сре́бро ҆и злáто ҆имашѐ ҆и҆ѡвь не ҆изьбро́ено and how much uncounted silver and gold Job had...
19: но вь мал͛ко днѝ све́ се доврьшѝ but in few days everything ended
20: ҆и нищо мꙋ не ҆ѡстанꙋ. and he was left with nothing
21: по́сле ҆и децá та мꙋ ҆измре́хꙋ then his children died too
22: токо̀ ҆ѡнь ҆ѡстáнꙋ ҆и женá та мꙋ only him and his wife were left
23: тáково вре́ме дочекà he suffered such times
24: защо́ мꙋ ҆и снагá та ҆ѡживини́че that his body got covered with scrofula
25: ҆и леже́ше като̀ ни́кои на бꙋни́ще ҆исьфрь́лень and he lied there like nobody, thrown away at a dumping ground
26: ҆и чи́репь не́ маше да сѝ ѡстрꙋже снагá та he did not either have a splitter to scrape his body
27: ҆и хле́бь не́ маше да едѐ ҆или крьчáгь во́дꙋ да пиѐ nor did he have bread to eat or a jug to drink water
28: ҆á женà негова станꙋ́ла си́роти́ца Meanwhile his wife became a pauper
29: ҆и хо́деше ѿ хи́жꙋ до хи́жꙋ та про́сеше хле́бь та мꙋ при́но́сеше and she went from hut to hut to beg for bread and bring it to him
30: ҆и ме́тнꙋваше мꙋ̀ ѿ дале́кь and she threw it to him from afar
31: ҆и дꙋ́маше мꙋ and she talked to him:
32: докогѝ да лежи́шь ти́ тꙋка ҆ѡби́дниче тол͛кова похꙋ́лень ʺUntil when are you going to lie here, you wretch, ever so slandered?ʺ
33: защо̀ не рече́шь не́коꙗ хꙋл͛на дꙋ́ма на бо́га ʺWhy don't you say a slanderous word to God?ʺ
34: давно́ би ꙋмре́ль да почи́нишь да нѐ теглишь тол͛кова зло ʺSo that (you) die doing (at least) something to not suffer so much evilʺ
҆и моꙗ дꙋшà да ҆ѡдьхне ѿ тол͛кова смрáдь що ҆излáзи ѿ ► снагá та твоꙗ̀ ʺand so that my soul takes a rest from the whole stench that comes out of your body.ʺ
35: тоги́ва се ҆ѡбрь́нꙋ ҆и҆ѡвь Then Job turned around
36: тá й ре́че and said to her:
37: нали́ си женà безь҆ꙋмна ʺAre you a reckless woman?ʺ
38: какво дá похꙋ́лимь на бг҃а коги́ ни бе́ше дáль бг҃ь тол͛кова добро̀ ʺWhy should I blaspheme God, when he gave us so much good?ʺ
39: налѝ знáешь какво́ се радвáх͛мо ҆ѡ безꙋ́мнице ʺYou know how happy we were, oh you reckless oneʺ
40: ҆á сьгà какво̀ да нѐ претрьпи́мо то́ва зло̀; ʺWhy should we now not bear through this evil?ʺ
41: ҆и тако̀ проводѝ ҆и҆ѡвь сво̀й днѝ ꙋ бо́лесть And so Job spent his days in illness
42: защо̀ бе́ше прáведень чл҃векь бж҃їй for he was a righteous man of God
43: бе́ше цр҃ко́вникь ҆и по́сникь ҆и бг҃ꙋ ꙋго́день he was a man of the church, he was a faster and pious
44: та мꙋ̀ завидѐ ди́ıӑволь so the Devil got envious of him
45: та сѐ ҆ѡбзало́жи сáсь дрꙋгаго дйавола and laid a bet with another devil
46: та мꙋ ҆изьморѝ свá та сто́ка що ймаше богáти ҆иѡвь and killed all the stock that the wealthy Job had
47: по́сле мꙋ ҆измо́ри сн҃ове́ те ҆и дьщери́ те then he killed his sons and daughters
48: ҆и ѡбрáха мꙋ сребро́ то ҆и злáто то and they robbed him of his silver and gold
49: нáи по́сле диӑволь ҆и не́го похрàка finally, the Devil spat on him too
50: та стáнꙋ свѐ рáна снагá та мꙋ and his body became full of wounds
51: ҆и ѡживини́че and it caught scrofula
52: та тече́ше гно́й so pus was running
53: ҆и бе́ше фанꙋл чрь́вꙗ ꙋ снагá та and his body got infected with worms
54: ҆и не мо́жеше да се пре҆ѡбрьне на дрꙋгá та стрáна ѿ болести and he could not turn on the other side because of sickness
55: та пà никáкво не́ похꙋлѝ на бг҃а but he did not defame God
56: чꙋ́ете ли хр͒тиӑни коли́ко любов ҆имаше богáти ҆и҆ѡвь за бг҃а Do you, christians, hear how much love for God the wealthy Job had?
57: ҆и спросил͛ь беше диӑволь ѿ бг҃а да ҆ѡскрьби ҆иѡва The Devil had asked God to offend Job
да го̀ ҆испи́та дали щѐ любѝ ҆и҆ѡвь бг҃а на скрь́бно вре́ме in order to test him if he will love God in times of sorrow
58: ҆á бг҃ь зна҆еше че не щѐ ҆иѡвь да похꙋ́ли на бг҃а but God knew Job will not defame God
59: тькмо си щеꙗ̀ бг҃ь да го ҆ѡстави да поте́гли зло̀ за ꙋвере́нїе yet God wanted him to suffer evil for the sake of belief
да ве́рьвамо ҆и нїꙗ на ти́ꙗ зло̀че́сти днѝ нáши so that we, too, have faith in these bad days
60: ҆и до́йде вре́ме ҆и де́нь да сѝ слꙋжи ҆иѡвь ст҃аго ҆оц҃а николáю and the time and day came for Job to make a service to the holy father (St.) Nicholas
61: нитѝ ҆има парѝ да сѝ кꙋпи во́сокь he did not have money to buy himself wax
62: нитѝ ҆има да сѝ кꙋпи ѳимꙗ́нь nor did he have (money) to buy himself incense
нитѝ дрꙋго що nor anything else
63: токо̀ брь́кнꙋ ꙋ пáзꙋхꙋ he just put his hand in his neckline
64: та извади ѿ снагá та си трѝ чрь́вꙗ and he took three worms out of his body
65: ҆и рече на жена та си and he said to his wife:
66: нá ти ти́ꙗ трѝ чрь́вове: ʺHere, (take) these three worms,ʺ
67: да ҆ѡти́дешь на пазáрь ʺgo to the marketʺ
68: да гѝ даде́шь: ʺgive themʺ
69: за единь чрь́вь да ꙋ́змешь жи́то ʺtake grain for one wormʺ
70: ҆а за дрꙋги во́сокь ʺand for another one waxʺ
71: ҆á за тре́тиꙗ да зе́мешь ѳи́миань ʺand for the third one take incenseʺ
72: ҆á ѡби́дница женà ре́че and the wretch of a woman said:
73: чл҃вече бж҃їи ко́й хоче те́бе да ꙋзме чрь́вꙗ ʺOh you, man of God, who would want to take worms from youʺ
да тѝ дадѐ жи́то ҆и во́сокь ҆и ѳимꙗ́нь; ʺto give you grain and wax and incense?ʺ
74: [а иѡвь рече] And Job said:
75: ти ҆иди сáсь ҆име бж҃ие ʺYou go with God's nameʺ
76: ҆и по́моли́ се ст҃омꙋ николáю ʺand pray to Saint Nicholasʺ
77: ꙋзе щешь потреби́ю ʺyou will get what you needʺ
78: ҆и ҆ѡна ꙋзе ти́ꙗ три чрьвове And she took these three worms
79: ҆и врьза ги ꙋ крьпꙋ and she tied them in a cloth
80: ҆и зане́се ги на пазáрь and she took them to the market
81: ҆и рече and she said
82: дꙋкꙗн͛џиѡ за ҆име бж҃ие нá ти тиꙗ трѝ чрь́вове ʺO merchant, in the name of God, here, (take) these three wormsʺ
83: та мѝ дай макарь три́ зрь́на жи́то ҆и мáло во́сокь ҆и ѳимꙗн ʺand give me even if only three grains of wheat and a little wax and incenseʺ
да сѝ ѿслꙋ́жимо ст҃аго ҆о́ц҃а ни́колáю ʺso that we serve the holy father Nicholasʺ
84: ҆и ҆ѡнꙗ дꙋкꙗн͛џиа ꙋзе крь́па та сáсь чрь́вове те And that merchant took the cloth with the worms
85: ҆и тꙋри ю на лáвицꙋ and he put it on the shelf
86: ҆и дадѐ на женá та жи́то ҆и во́сокь ҆и ѳимиӑнь and gave the woman wheat and wax and incense
87: ҆и ѡтиде́ си женá та and the woman left
88: ҆á дꙋкꙗн͛џїа разьврьзà крьпꙋ да ви́ди какви́ сꙋ ти́ꙗ чрь́вове and the merchant untied the cloth to see what these worms were
89: когѝ погледà ꙋ крьпа та трѝ жльти́ци when he looked, in the cloth (were) three gold coins
90: ҆á ѡнь ско́ро трьчà по неꙗ́ да ю ги дадѐ and he soon ran after her to give them back to her
91: ҆и не можѐ да ю̀ найде and he could not find her
92: ви́дите ли хр͒тиӑне чꙋдесà Do you, christians, see the miracles?
93: после ҆и҆ѡвина женà свáри ҆ѡно́ва жи́то Then Job's wife cooked the wheat
94: ҆и ѿслꙋжи́хꙋ си ст҃аго ни́колáю and they served Saint Nicholas
95: и оста ҆имь ҆е́днà кривáчка вáрено жи́то and they were left with a handful of cooked wheat
96: ҆и҆ѡвь рече Job said
97: сꙋпрꙋ́жницѐ моꙗ̀ ꙋзми товà жи́то ʺO my wife, take this wheatʺ
98: ҆и врьжи го ꙋ крь́пꙋ ʺand tie it in a clothʺ
99: ҆и добре́ го скрѝ да нѝ бꙋ́де гото́во за на го́динь ʺand hide it well so that it is ready for us in a yearʺ
100: че не́ ма ҆и тоги́ва за що да сѝ кꙋ́пимо ʺbecause then there will be nothing to buy for, tooʺ
101: ҆и ѡнà скрѝ жи́то то And she hid the wheat
102: коги́ би до го́динꙋ до́йде де́нь пакѝ да сѝ слꙋжꙋть ст҃áго николáю When a year passed, the day for the service to St. Nicholas came again.
103: ꙋзе женá та и҆ѡвина крь́па та The wife of Job took the cloth
да ви́ди да не бꙋ́де ҆изьгни́ло жи́то то to see if the wheat had rotted
104: ҆и когѝ погледà жито́ то сотво́риль бг҃ь на мар͛гарить and when she looked, God had turned the wheat into pearls
105: ҆и зане́се женá та три́ зрь́на на пазарь пáки на то́гова дꙋкꙗн͛џию and the woman took the three grains to the market, again to this merchant
да сѝ ҆ꙋзме потреби́ю за слꙋжбꙋ to get what she needed for the service
106: ҆онь видѐ зрь́на та че ѐ мар͛гари́ть he saw that the grains were pearls
107: ꙋзе ги he took them
108: ҆и даде й жи́то ҆и восок ҆и ѳим҆ꙗнь and he gave her wheat and wax and incense
109: ҆и още мло́го гроше́ве й даде he gave her many more coins too
110: ви́дите ли брáте какво бг҃ь ҆испи́т͛ва чл҃ве́ка Do you, brothers, see how God tests man
҆и тво́ри знаме́нїе ҆и чꙋдесà and creates omens and miracles?
111: послѐ ҆иѡвь оздрáве Then Job recovered
112: ҆и доби по́вече сто́кꙋ and he got more stock
113: ҆и до́би повече сре́бро ҆и злáто and he got more silver and gold
114: ҆и до́би дрꙋги си́нове ҆и дь́щери and he got other sons and daughters
115: разꙋмех͛те ли хри́стиıӑне Did you understand, Christians?
116: товà бг҃ь ꙗви да ви́димо ни́е и да вервамо гд͒а нáшего ҆ии͒са хр͒та ҆и да дрь́жи́мо ст҃и прáзници God showed this for us to see and believe our God Jesus Christ and to hold the holy holidays
117: доста сꙋ нáмь ꙋ неде́лю тꙋ ше́сь днѝ да рáботимо To work six days a week is pretty much for us
118: сед͛ми де́нь ст҃ꙋю неде́лю да празнꙋ́вамо let us celebrate the seventh day, the holy Sunday
119: та да нѝ бг҃ь помилꙋва ҆и да ни помогнѐ во слáвꙋ бж҃ию so that God reprieves us and helps us in into God's glory
120: томꙋ же иѡвꙋ слáва бг҃ꙋ же нáшемꙋ Glory be to this Job and to our God
чт҃ь ҆и поклоне́нїе and honor and respect
всегдà ни́нѣ ҆и при́сно ҆и во ве́ки веков forever, now and ever
