6: | ҆и желáеть разꙋмети ҆и знáти ҆извесно радѝ ҆оц҃и ҆и пре҆о́ц҃и ҆и цр҃ве ҆и патри҆арси ҆и ст҃и | and (you, who) wishes to understand and know what is known about their fathers, and forefathers, and kings, and patriarchs, and saints |
какво́ сꙋ испрьва поживе́ли ҆и пре҆ишли | how they lived in the beginning and passed | |
7: | ҆и вамь ҆е́сть потре́бно но да знае́те ҆изве́сно де҆ꙗ́нїе ҆о́ц҃ь вашихь | and it is needed for you to know the famous deeds of your fathers |
8: | како знáють дрꙋ́ги ро́дове за них͛ни родь ҆и ези́кь | as other nations know about their nation and language |
9: | ҆и хвалáт се за сво́й ро́дь | and they boast about their nation |
10: | тако̀ ҆и азь вáмь написáхь по ре́дꙋ ҆изве́сно за вáшь род | in this way I wrote for you in order what is known about your nation |

12: | и знайте | and know |
13: | да не бꙋ́дете. ѿ дрꙋги ро́дове подьсме҆ꙗ́ни ҆и ꙋко́рени | so that you don't get mocked and rebuked by other nations |
сире́чь ѿ грь́ци ҆и ѿ срьбие ҆и ѿ лати́ни | that is, by Greeks, and by Serbians, and by Latins | |

19: | ҆и преписꙋйте ҆истори́цꙋ сїю | and copy this chronicle |
20: | и їме́ите ю да се не погꙋ́би | and have it so that it does not get lost |
21: | ҆áко и не лю́бать за сво́й. ези́кь ҆и бльгарски ро́дь знати. | even if they do not wish to know about their Bulgarian language and nation |
22: | нь се ѿфрь́га ҆и ѡбрáща се на чꙋжди ези́кь | but they turn to a foreign language |
23: | ҆и не радꙋть за сво́й ези́къ бль́гарски | and thy do not work for their Bulgarian language |
24: | ҆и срамꙋват се. да се наречáть бль́гаре | and they are ashamed to call themselves Bulgarians |
25: | ѡ не размнї ю́роде пощо се срамл҆ꙗ́шь да се. нарече́шь бль́гаринь | O you unreasonable and foolish man! Why are you ashamed to call yourself Bulgarian? |
26: | ҆или не͒ (с)ꙋ ҆имали бль́гари цр͒тво ҆и гд͒тво | Or have Bulgarians not had a kingdom and a state? |
27: | за толи́ко цр͒твꙋвáли | For such a long time they ruled |
28: | ҆и били слáвни ҆и ꙋчени по вьсей зе́мли | and were glorious and learned all over the earth |
29: | ҆и мно́го пꙋти ѿ римл҆ꙗ́не ҆и ѿ грьци дáнокь ꙋзи́мали | and many times they took tribute from the Romans and the Greeks |
30: | ҆и давáли са ҆имь цр҃ве ҆и крáлове дьщери свои за жени [вь сꙋпрꙋжество] | and kings and emperors gave them their daughters for wives |
тькмо̀ да би́ха ҆имали мирь са͒ цр҃и бльгар͛скиа | only to have peace with the Bulgarian kings | |
31: | по вели́ки ҆и по славни би́ли бльгаре | The Bulgarians were greater and more glorious (than the rest of Slavs) |
32: | прьво се ҆они цр҃ове нарекли | They were the first (among Slavs) to call themselves kings |
33: | прьво они патриар͛ха ҆имали | they were the first to have a patriarch |
34: | прьво ҆ѡни се кр͒тили | they were the first to be baptized |
35: | наи бо́ле землю ҆ѡни сꙋ ꙋзе́ли ҆и посво́йли | they seized and held to most land |
36: | тако ҆ѡ(ни) наи силни билѝ | and so they were the most powerful |
37: | ҆и прьво ст҃и ѿ бльгарьски родь проси́алы | and the saints first shined out from the Bulgarian nation |
38: | зато имеють бол͛гари ѿ много ҆исторїи свидетел͛ство вь слáвꙋ бж҃їю | For this reason Bulgarians have testimony for God's glory in many chronicles |
39: | ненави́стникь свои́мь родомь. | o, Loather of his own nation! |
40: | Нь ♣ ѿ що се тѝ не рáзꙋмне срáмл҆ꙗ́҆ешь ѿ сво́й родь | But why do you, o foolish one, feel ashamed of your own nation |
41: | ҆и влáчиш се нá чꙋжди ҆ези́кь | and drag along a foreign language |

43: | защо́ са грьци по мꙋдри ҆и по ли́чни | ʺbecause Greeks are wiser and more gloriousʺ |
44: | ҆á бльгаре сꙋ про́сти ҆и глꙋпави | ʺand Bulgarians are simple and dumbʺ |
45: | ҆и не ймать ре́чи. личнѝ | ʺand they do not have famous sayingsʺ |
46: | нь ви́ждь не рáзꙋмне ѿ грьци по мно́го ҆има бльгаре мꙋдрї и слáвни | but look, you fool, there are more Bulgarians than Greeks, who are wise and glorious |
47: | дали́ си ҆ѡставл҆ꙗ́еть не́кои грькь сво́й езикь ҆и ꙋченїе ҆и ро́дь | Does any Greek abandon his own language, and study, and nation |
48: | како ти безꙋмне приходишь вь грь́ческа мꙋ́дрось | like you, fool, go for the Greek wisdom? |
49: | ти бль́гарине не прельщай се знáй. свои ро́дь ҆и ези́кь | You, Bulgarian, do not fool yourself, know your nation and language |
50: | ҆и ꙋчи́ се по свое дело | and learn your deeds |
51: | боле́ ҆есть бльгарска простота ҆и незлоби́е | There is more Bulgarian simplicity and innocence |
52: | бльгаре сꙋ про́сти | Bulgarians are simple |
53: | и васакаго прїимають ҆и гощáвать | and they accept and treat everyone well as guests |
54: | ҆и мл͒тиню давать | and give alms |
55: | ҆á мꙋдри грь́ци то не имею́ть | while the wise Greeks not only do not have this |
56: | нь ҆еще ѿимать | but they even take away |
57: | ҆и грабать ѿ прости лю́дие | and they rob simple people |
58: | ҆и ви́ше гре́хь ѿ ни́хьна мꙋдрость à не полза .:. | and there is more sin than profit in their wisdom |
59: | ҆á кога ꙋзели тꙋрци цр͒тво бльгарско ҆и землю | And when the Turks took the Bulgarian kingdom and land |
҆и напрáсно погази́ли ҆и попали́ли цр҃кви ҆и монасти́ри цр҃ки и ҆архиерейски дво́рове | and suddenly stomped and burned royal churches and monasteries and episcopal palaces | |
вь то време чл҃ве́ци ѿ страха ҆и нꙋ́жда ҆и ꙋжáса тꙋр͛скаго бегáли да зачꙋ́вать тькмо живо́ть свои | in that time, out of fear and need and terror of the Turks people fled to save their lives | |
60: | ҆и вь то люто вре́ме загꙋби́ли се ҆ѡни́а цр͒ки кни́ги що сꙋ били стари | And in those harsh times those royal books, which were old, got lost |
61: | зато̀ ҆и азь написах сїю исторїю да се не загꙋби | For this reason i wrote this chronicle so that it does not get lost |
62: | защо не може ю̀ свеки чл҃векь имати ҆и читати [и помнити† | for not everyone can have or read or remember it |
