1: ви бг҃ь сподо́биль во цр͒то своѐ: нб҃ное (may) God makes you worthy for His Kingdom of Heaven
2: то́го рáди напи́сахь кни́гꙋ сїю на про́стаго ꙗзи́ка that is why I wrote this book in the simple language
радѝ прости лю́дие for the sake of simple folk
да разꙋме́ють тако́вое рꙋкиделїе ҆и пи́санїе моѐ брáте so that they understand such a handwork and my writing, brothers
3: ҆и ҆има .:. мло́го ҆речи не испрáвени and there are many words, which are not neat
4: понеже не писа аг҃гель гд͒нь нѝ дх҃ь ст҃ь но писà рꙋкà гре́шна чл҃ве́ческа For it was not an angel of God who wrote, not a holy spirit, but the sinful hand of man.
5: ни ѿ сво́и паме́ть ҆измисли́хь And it was not my memory that I invented it from
но ѿ бж͒етвени кни́ги хр͒тови произве́дох but I produced it from divine books of Christ
6: ҆и написáхь and I wrote
7: ҆и напечатáхь and I printed
8: но ѡ͒ братиѧ мо́й возлюбле́ни читáтели не мо́йте ме́не гре́шнаго про́клинꙗ́ти But oh my brothers, beloved readers, do not curse me, the sinful one
9: но бг҃ь дá настави́ть брат͛ство всем вáмь but let God teach all of you brotherhood
10: ҆и бл҃гослове́те ме не досто́инаго and bless me, the unworthy one
11: поне́же не ѿ млого ꙋченїе написáхь ни ѿ мло́го ҆ѡр͛ѳогрáфїа Because I did not write because of (having) a lot of knowledge and (a need to show) a lot of orthograph(ic skills)
но ѿ мно́го кни́голю́бие ҆и ревност but because of the lot of (my) love for the Scripture and fervor
12: ѿ срдце мое написáхь From my heart I wrote
13: ви́дите ли брате место Do you, brothers, see the spot?
14: ҆и на печать постави́хь And I put in print
15: пишꙋ сїѧ предѝсло́виѧ за ст҃и мч҃ници I write this introduction about the holy martyrs
како пострадáхꙋ хр͒та рáди how they suffered because of Christ
претрьпехꙋ толи́ко мꙋкѝ ҆и рани ҆и досади ҆и дрꙋго and endured so much hardship and wounds and boredom and else
16: мло́ги ре́чи ҆има ҆избранїй за ст҃и прпдбни ҆оц҃и ҆и ҆анг҃еломь ҆и ҆арьхáнгело́мь There are many speeches, chosen for holy Reverend fathers and angels and archangels
҆и за све́кꙋ потре́бꙋ на свеки празникь and for every need on every holiday
17: ꙋго́дно ꙋписáхь I described neatly
18: ѿ пролог цр͒ки пройзведо́хь from the royal (?) Prologue I produced
19: ҆и ѿ грь́ч҃ки изводь паки на про́стаго ꙗзи́ка преписáхь домисли́хь аз҃ь ҆ѡка҆ꙗ́ни ҆и мно́го гре́шни ереи пꙋн͛чо and from a Greek source I, the miserable and very sinful priest Punčo, copied again in simple language and thought it through
да прочетꙋ́ть не разꙋме́ющи да разꙋме́ють сїѧ: проста словесà. for the not understanding ones to understand these simple words
20: понеже ҆и ѿ братїѧ нáши сщ҃енїци или монáси .:. because among our brothers priests or monks
мло́зина ҆има не ꙋме́ють проповедат(и) типогрáфена словесà there are many of them, who cannot preach (using) written (printed?) homilies
21: того рáди пот͛щах͛ се ҆и азь ҆и много т(...) положихь на се́бе да би мѐ премл͒ти́ви Because of this I worked hard and put a lot of effort on myself, so that the most merciful (... missing page?)
22: те кои прочете товà ст҃ое писáнїе пре́дь собо́ри So that he, who reads this holy writing in front of convocations,
҆и добрѐ ҆имь дá ҆извести́ть да разꙋмеють announces it well enough for them to understand it
҆И ҆они да прославꙋть ҆име бж҃їе and glorify themselves the name of God
23: зáщо сꙋ глꙋпави лю́дие като̀ ҆ов͛ци коги не имат пасти́ра for people are as stupid as sheep when they do not have a shepherd
24: ҆а тѝ читáтелю проповедай ҆и накажѝ хр͒тиáни And you, o reader, preach and teach the Christians
҆и ти да полꙋ́чишь проще́нїе греховь твойхь ѿ всехмл͒тиваго бг҃а so that you too get forgiveness for your sins from the most merciful God
25: ꙋвїи коли́ко помощь ҆имать то҆ꙗ́ по́пь ҆или: граматни́кь ко́й (...)го изве́сти кнїгꙋ сїю пре́дь нарáдь Alas, how much help does this priest or writer have, who reads this book in front of people
26: ва премно́гаꙗ и бл҃гаꙗ лета всегдà ҆и во ве́ки in many good years, always and forever
