An alternative to knęz as the second highest secular title (ʹkingʹ). Paisius divides the Bulgarian rulers to krale ʹkingsʹ and care ʹemperorsʹ, going back to a story about ʺAsen the Greatʺ (actually Khan Tervel). Pagan rulers used titles arkhon or kanasubigi, later the Slavic kъnęźь. The title kralь was common in West Slavic area, and its use in the South is likely a later Hungarian influence.

A king of Bulgars mentioned by Paisius. Possibly Walluc (< *vlъkъ ?), a Slavic chieftain, who sheltered the remnants of Alcekʹs Bulgars after their massacre by Dagobert II. Pohl (2018:319) situates his realm in Slovenia and the whole story a generation earlier, to 630s, during the rule of the first Dagobert. The name appears thus in RU version of Orbiniʹs chronicle. Nikolov (2014) considers it a corruption of the Bulgar ethnonym by a Latin translation of Theophanes the Confessor.
